Good thing they just sent out the oil screen recall. Took them 5 days at the dealership to finish my C7.5 S7. Hoping that it solves the turbo failure issue.

how hard is it to service and access the turbo oil screen? and if it is hard, couldn't you buy some aftermarket setup to install a oil screen bypass? In aviation, they use a calibrated spring, and if oil pressure increases due to a clog, the backpressure overpressures the calibrated spring, allowing oil to bypass around the oil pump at the clog. I'm wondering if there's some aftermarket device that would allow you to do that for these audi's

Hello Diego! Yes lots to cover here. Main priority is getting your oil screen TSB done. There is another recall for the PCV/oil separator as well so check with your local Audi dealer to see if your car has an open recall(s) for these issues. Yes also shares many of the same components being another 4.0T car. There are some differences between the 4.0T in the S6/S7/A8 vs S8/RS7. One of the main differences being lower compression ratio.
Good info. I have the factory 3.0t supercharged b8.5 s5, but its still low mileage.. building it for now, but once Ive had my fun Im probably doing the s8 4.0t swap. Word is 034 might be making a swap kit for it.
@@RG-mt6is the 4.0t can make much larger numbers + turbos. The s5 is limited to around 500-550 at the wheels tops with everything on the market as of now fully ported and everything.. kind of limited by the supercharger/internals/iets.
Svarog performance(on UA-cam) has done some 4.0 swaps. He's in the states and has done a B8.5 S4 and S5. One is a manual too I think👀. I got my S7, but the S5 with a 4.0 would be an amazing drag car and it could take corners damn well👀
You can certainly go bigger if your budget allows. I would be prepared to upgrade the clutch to handle the torque as the DSG is the weak point on this platform. 800hp for sure gonna need it.

Already got the recall letter in the mail as well.

I know this vid is 1yo but, I am in the market trading in my '14 A6 for '14 S7 with 51K Miles. I did see there was a recall on the oil strainer. Is that the same as the "oil screen"? Manufacturer Safety Recall issued NHTSA #22V178 Recall #21H7 OIL STRAINER Status: Remedy Available Locate an authorized Audi dealer to obtain more information about this recall
Some later c7.5 models had the revised screen, however this inherently is a design flaw as you can still run into problems so the best course of action is to eliminate the screen/ install oil feed line relocation kit.
Would suggest starting by contacting your local audi dealership for more details. I would think they would replace them proactively to prevent the car from being inoperable. Thanks
@@savagepandaprojects Yeah man. Invest in a good matte leather conditioner. It shouldn’t be that shiny. I was thinking SRM +4 or JHM RS7-R turbos and was wondering who you thought, but 100% agree if you are going to do it just go stage 3 the car needs 80% of the parts replaced anyways might as well make them better while you are in there!
Thanks man! Really appreciate the support. Sounds like you are definitely in the market for some new turbos lol I have seen plenty of welll satisfied customers running JHM turbos with APR stage 3 software. Haven't driven a +4 SRM car but they are also popular. For that you would need to run DS1 software. Probably along with the SRM dsg tune. I'm sure that would be a formidable package!
Did you check your plugs? Usually tunes require certain spark plug changes and gaps.. if you have the wrong plugs or gap it can definitely cause misfires under load.
Thanks to Savage Panda Projects for the information. I own a 2016 RS7 stage 2 which was purchased with all work done, at 28,000 miles. This car flies at 42,000 miles now. I added a K&N air filter. Also, replaced those heavy stock wheels with HRE aluminum alloy monoblocks. The wheels reduced unsprung weight probably 10lb or more per wheel. The wheels are polished gold, which admirers claim "those wheels really make it pop". The car is red which is a good contrast with gold. The K&N and wheels together made the felt acceleration much greater. However, the DOWN PIPES made the biggest power gain, excluding stage ONE. Wheels are third on power gain. Note stock turbo's. Stage one is likely; timing advance, richening the fuel mixture and most important increasing the BOOST. Stage II, APR downpipes. The car is ready to produce a lot of gases and needs to exit through downpipes. The downpipes offer more power than your cat back systems however, add the cat-back if you have the $$$. Also, don't forget the all important X-pipe. This cheap mod increases torque and like downpipes sounds great through the exhausts. X-pipes is mfg. by APR. Additionally, a word about maintenance CHANGE YOUR OIL and FILTER every 3000-5000 miles and watch for oil losses and replace ASAP. IMO Audi would love to sell you a new car after yours expires after doing 10,000 mi. oil changes on your old car. They don't want your car to last to 300,000 mi. If you do frequent oil changes, you don't need to worry about the OIL SCREEN ISSUE. If the history of your car is unknown, make a judgement call, which should not include prophylactically changing your TURBO'S. Remember, increasing power is more about making several changes that produce a synergism of effects. Stage I II and III is only one way to go about it. The warranty extension on the turbo's to 120,000 miles and 10 years is correct. I received the letter in the mail from Audi the other day. Check with your dealer for details because I believe this is not an open ended deal. It probably does not include all causes of turbo failure.@@savagepandaprojects
Seems like no one love the s8. I'm looking to get something nice comfortable and fast. Came across the s8 on car guru and 2013-2015 with 50-100k miles only like 25k. For 520 hp? I just take this to a tuner and try to bullet proof it? Sounds like it can't get more perfect.
@@savagepandaprojects how capable? Stock they are just what I want from a car. Fast, and luxurious. I LOVE luxury. I've heard they can be pretty unreliable, how would I obtain one and keep it out of the shop? How could I beat on it stock and it not break?
The problem with the turbos is found in models prior to 2016, that is, those from 2012-2015 that come with 420hp. In 2016 with the 450hp version Audi already fixed it.
They revised the oil screens for the mid-2017 model year. Still nowhere near good. Issues are still present with the oil screen clogging and pcv getting stuck open. Just swap to RS7, TS1, or SRM +4mm and throw out the oil screen and replace the pcv while you're already that deep. That's what I ended up doing. Ole 4.0 is still going strong.
@@nigels6786 Turbo oil screens are basically useless. If you have debris that big passing through into your turbos, you have more issues than just oil buildup😂. With that being said, I don't run my screen and I know plenty of others that don't run it either. Put 40k on my S7 since the screen delete/new turbos and it's had ZERO issues thus far.

Almost every car platform has issues. For the most part these cars are very reliable. A lot of people online try to scare people with all this negative stuff but it really is all about how you maintain the car.
turbos are not a big deal at all... you can find em for 400$ if you know where to look and the install in literally 2-3hrs tops and its fun... ive done it 3xs now... i have a blast building this platform

FCP Euro has a brake+rotor kit for the S6/7 for the front and back that cost $1200 USD. Zimmerman rotors and Forledo pads I think. They're pretty decent. If you want brake pads that make less brake dust, I'd look into the EBC Red Stuff pads on FCP Euros sight as well. I'm switching to those pads in a month or so, but from what I've heard is they're pretty similar to oem for wear/durability.

Good info. I have the factory 3.0t supercharged b8.5 s5, but its still low mileage.. building it for now, but once Ive had my fun Im probably doing the s8 4.0t swap. Word is 034 might be making a swap kit for it.
Stage 1 s4 makes 450 hp
And stage 3 makes around 550-600 why would you swap it
@@RG-mt6is at the crank :/ a stage 2 dual pulley v6 makes around 450-500 at the wheels.
I got my S7, but the S5 with a 4.0 would be an amazing drag car and it could take corners damn well👀
Do you have to go with rs7 turbos? Can you go with something bigger ? Maybe spool up close to 800hp? Are there other options
You can certainly go bigger if your budget allows. I would be prepared to upgrade the clutch to handle the torque as the DSG is the weak point on this platform. 800hp for sure gonna need it.
Really good content man! Following all your videos now.
Great content! Thanks for sharing and much appreciated!
I have a 2017 c7.5 S6. Stage 1 APR tuned for about a year and a half now and about 20k miles. Car has 67k miles now. No issues yet runs great thankfully so far. I do castrol 5w40 full synthetic every 3k miles to keep the oil as clean as possible and have had the car since about 45k miles, plus had all records of consistent previous maintainance that was done since beginning of vehicles life. I have to think this makes difference with oil screen clog but can't be certain. I did not have any oil screen preventative work done. If turbos go I'll just replace them. Already got the recall letter in the mail as well.
Sounds clean and well maintained! For watching
@@savagepandaprojects right on
You would make a great voice actor/ narrator.
I have an S6 with 110k miles....been APR stage 2 since 40k miles and the only thing ii have ever replaced was 1 motor mount.. i use only amsoil oil and replace every 5k miles, and do all my services religiously. Stick get on it pretty often
Those stock turbos must be holding on for dear life! Lol 😆
They can keep holding on haha.
People are running 2000+ hp with the almost the same dsg on twin turbo ugr r8’s. There are clutch upgrades and there are axle upgrades. To suit everyone’s horsepower needs
R8 definitely going to be sturdier out of the box but yes there are fortunately aftermarket upgrades!
I got an a4 b5 and am looking at doing a swap. Im not sure as of yet if i should go 4.0 or 4.2 yet. I have the 1.8t (ATW) 5 speed quattro as of right now. Im gonna ride that engine till it dies, but want to start prepping the new setup
I know this vid is 1yo but, I am in the market trading in my '14 A6 for '14 S7 with 51K Miles. I did see there was a recall on the oil strainer. Is that the same as the "oil screen"?
Manufacturer Safety Recall issued
NHTSA #22V178
Recall #21H7 OIL STRAINER
Status: Remedy Available
Locate an authorized Audi dealer to obtain more information about this recall
That is correct same thing...the recall definitely helps put new buyers mind at ease for this!
@@savagepandaprojects Thank you for confirming. I have just submitted my purchase for '14 S7 Prestige .... {giggly}
I E is good, but they only work with stock turbos, BUT they do in fact offer Stage 2.
Would be excited to see them release software for upgraded turbos eventually!
@@savagepandaprojects I'm not that patient, I ordered DS1
Hey, I have that shirt!
What model year did Audi fix oil screen issue?
Some later c7.5 models had the revised screen, however this inherently is a design flaw as you can still run into problems so the best course of action is to eliminate the screen/ install oil feed line relocation kit.
@@savagepandaprojects what’s a fair price to do that?
@@smm7540 check out my 4.0T cost breakdown video 😀
The problem with the turbos is found in models prior to 2016, that is, those from 2012-2015 that come with 420hp. In 2016 they already fixed it.
for the extended warranty (120k/10 years) Do the turbos need to fail first or can we ask audi to replace them even if they still work for free?
Would suggest starting by contacting your local audi dealership for more details. I would think they would replace them proactively to prevent the car from being inoperable. Thanks
This is a nice car but why is your matte finished leather interior shiny? Has someone been using Armor All?
No idea it's been years since I've had this car lol
@@savagepandaprojects Yeah man. Invest in a good matte leather conditioner. It shouldn’t be that shiny. That being said to each their own and if you like the glossy leather it’s your whip and your choice! Just from factory the leather is muted. At least that’s been the case in my B8 and my B9.5 S4s I’ve owned. Again, beautiful car regardless that shine just threw me a curve ball.
Hey man! Love the content, I went IE stage 1 ecu and tcu 3 days ago on my 103k original turbo 13 s6 for kicks and wiggles, today during a WOT pull my EPC light came on and I’m sure it was Probably a misfire so going to get scanned tomorrow, but mean time I just ordered a cooler but what do you recommend for turbos?
What happened
@@garypostelwait6172 downpipes don’t make any power gains on this platform. Been proven numerous times. Specifically for sound
S8 is a gem, if you find a clean one, go for it. Very capable cars.
@@savagepandaprojects how capable? Stock they are just what I want from a car. Fast, and luxurious. I LOVE luxury. I've heard they can be pretty unreliable, how would I obtain one and keep it out of the shop? How could I beat on it stock and it not break?

Oil screen recall by Audi.
Everything is cool bro but use Motul not liquid Molly
Great product as well!
The problem with the turbos is found in models prior to 2016, that is, those from 2012-2015 that come with 420hp. In 2016 with the 450hp version Audi already fixed it.
Revised the oil screen but it's still a flawed design. Long term solution is to eliminate it all together
@@savagepandaprojects how is it long term without those oil screens? Will it be safe after turbo upgrades
Wow you guys really install confidence about this product. I was looking at getting a s7 2017 or newer. But if turbos are going a out before 100k miles I'm just not interested in footing those bills. Lol water pumps, thermostats, turbos, transmission shift linkages valve bodies, high oil consumption, sludge. Sounds like a literal nightmare. Why would anyone want to buy this pos?
Very expensive platform to build man! Definitely want to bring light to these things so people know what they are getting into. Lol
Almost every car platform has issues. For the most part these cars are very reliable. A lot of people online try to scare people with all this negative stuff but it really is all about how you maintain the car.
Just bought a 2016 with 38k miles. And found out that audi has an extended warranty on the turbos that are good 120k miles or 10 years.
turbos are not a big deal at all... you can find em for 400$ if you know where to look and the install in literally 2-3hrs tops and its fun... ive done it 3xs now... i have a blast building this platform
@@williamroberts4189 Where are you finding turbos for $400? I just bought an s6 and I haven’t begun modding it yet.
Hmm, why I don't plan on tuning. Just did Spark plugs, coil packs, oil change, DSG flush and Brake Flush.
What I'm considering next, dealer said brakes are worn to 6mm. ($1,000).
Removal of oil screen and PCV Replacement. Quoted ($3,000).
Yep! German cars are certainly not the cheapest to maintain, gotta pay to play!
