  • During this video, 3 beautiful physics problems from the 2020 F=ma exam are covered, specifically #21, #24, and #25.
#21 is an interesting problem, centered around balancing torques, #24 is a problem which involves many parts including springs and centripetal acceleration, and #25 is a problem with springs and stable equilibrium/
The F=ma exam is a yearly exam that tests high school students across America in their knowledge in classical mechanics. It is one of the stages in being selected for the US IPhO (International Physics Olympiad) team. Some more information about it can be found here: www.aapt.org/p...
Also, I apologize for the audio in the last problem, sorry!

Great explanations, especially for that last problem, such a cool result!

Using the answer choices on f=ma is extremely relevant due to the time constraints as observing dimensions / limiting cases can trivialize some problems given the choices. Good that you solved them without, though.

Yes, that is absolutely true :), I will include those in future videos then, thanks for the feedback! In fact, that's how I solved 25 during the actual test since I ran out of time due to the time constraint as you said :P

Why did you use a hexagon instead of a circle for the first problem. Additionally, I was wondering how you are able to solve these problems as I have done a textbook and still am unable to solve fma problems. Do you have any tips for me?

That's my bad I thought the table was a polygon. But it doesn't affect the solution, the fact that it was a hexagon wasn't really used. For your second question, I think you have to just continue to see more problems with harder textbooks, there's nothing much that can help other than solving more problems. If you're stuck, I suggest reading the first parts of the solution, covering up the rest and trying to see if you can solve it from there. Also, check out the Kalda Mechanics problems I have posted on my channel, they are helpful.
