Hi ☺ thank you so much for checking out this tutorial! I'm so excited to announce that I have launched my very own website!! I have the written pattern for this tutorial up already if you want to follow along there: vivcrochets.com/cat-ear-beanie
I made 3 beanies with your other tutorial for my family and im gonna crochet this to my sister. Cant thank you enough for these easy and understandable videos 🩷
@@Piercinggazeofthemoon I'm not the commenter but I'm using a weighted 5 yarn, I made 37 chains. It depends on how long you're head is and how long you want it to be, hope that helps :)
great tutorial!! i’m a total beginner, this is literally the second time in my life when i try crocheting (i crocheted a few granny squares before and the result wasn’t really good) and it’s all going pretty well now! your explanations are in-depth enough for me as a beginner and i feel pretty confident it’s gonna come out good. i’ve almost finished my rectangle now, gonna update this comment later!
I will make this hat for my son who has a cat. I’m sure both of them would love the looks 😊Thank you so much for sharing this hat design and your excellent tutorial. Have a Very Happy Christmas and all the best in 2024 ❤
@@WaterNStreams4711 so I messed up in the very first step lolol. I made it WAYYYYYYYYY too long. I think the original chain needs to reach from your forehead to the top of your head, with a little bit to flip up and that’s it. For my head that’s MAYBE 5 inches long and that would be giving me extra lol.
@spacecookiez67 ohhh ya then i must just have a big ah head... because I thought I was making it to long like the width that will wrap around my head LOLL but you made the hight too long.... now that I think of it...I just chained a random number let's hope this fits...sighh 😆😆 I've been working on this hat for like 6-8 hours now my fingers are dyingg!!!! Thx for answering btw yeee I don't think I'm have anything to worry about then...I hope other then the hight of it mine might be too short...
@ I am sure it will be fine!! Yep I made it way too tall lmao it was crazy looking on my head. I worked on it for like 4 or 5 days and I was like man there’s no way a small hat should take this long, huh oh well!! And then realized when I was about to sew it together and I was like oh… oh no. It was the size of my whole torso
I realized from this video that what I thought was a double crochet was actually a half double crochet, and I made a fingerless glove using the wrong stitch 😂😅
Hi, thank you so much for such an easy tutorial. I love crocheting but wanted to try making a bit different and as a beginner this was so clear and easy to get through!
Thank you for the great tutorial. Your instructions were clear and easy to follow and your voice was so soothing to listen to. Eager to make my own now! Keep up the good work 🤗
I've tried this tutorial twice. The first time i didn't measure my head and did 72 chains/72 rows. It turned into a pillow case. Second time I did 62 chains/60 rows & it still was too long anne slightly too big. I used a 5mm hook with size 4 medium yarn. Idk what I'm doing wrong. Do you think it's the hook size??
It is both your yarn and hook size! I did 61 chains and 66 rows with a 4mm hook and size 3 yarn. If you’re using a bigger hook and yarn, you will need less chains and less rows. I recommend measuring it against your head, especially if you use a different hook size and yarn!
I finished the project (great tutorial by the way) and I realized that I made my rows too long, so the hat is waaay too tall. Is there anything I can do besides unraveling the whole thing???
is there a reason why the nr of rows has to be even? edit: oooh so the pattern looks nice!! i accidentally made the rectangle the other way around (chained the foundation enough so the hat woud fit my head), sp it doesnt matter in my case i guess, lol :D
thank you for the tutorial i’m about to try it out but i’m gonna double up on yarn to make it extra warm! i love your yarn choice too i’m doing green and black. when you say stitch and even amount of rows, does the chain count as row 1 or no?
ok. I'm at the part where you slipstitch the ends together and I've redone it already because the ends aren't matching up. WHAT DID I DO WRONG??? :( :( :( :(
@@VivCrochets everytime I count a row I realize I'm one stitch short so I frog it and count the previous row just to determine the same thing😭😭sigh* time to restart. I'll make sure to count every row this time😂
For example, let’s say I have 60 stitches in the first row and 56 in the last. When I stitch the ends together, I would have to use 4 of the stitches in my last row two times. So you basically stretch it out a little, but since it’s only a couple of centimeters, it’s barely noticeable. I wouldn’t recommend doing it for a larger difference, though!
Depends on the yarn care instructions. But if you weave in your ends will it should be. Each yarn wrapper has the care for the fiber. If you’re worried though or don’t have the tag/wrap anymore you should hand wash and air dry and/or low LOW tumble dry just to be safe
it depends on the yarn you use i think, my mom had recently made me leg warmers, threw them into the wash, and they got stretched out. she made another pair using different yarn, threw them in, and they were fine
you can get one of the same color or another one of a different color, but you knot the end that you were already working on to the tip of the yarn you are going to use, crochet like normal, it won't affect the beanie you will just have a small bump however so maybe use the bump side as the inside of the beanie
The chains you do should not be able to wrap around your head. They are for the vertical length of the beanie! The rows are what you should keep making to fit your head and you’ll need a lot more than 9 rows!
Yes, if you continue to follow the pattern with 67 starting chains. But, if you want to work your hat in the other direction, you can! So instead of working rows to wrap around your head, you can work rows for the vertical length of the beanie
Nooo I thought I could use ombré yarn for this but I didn’t realise it would become vertical at the end so now the stripes are vertical not horizontal 🥲🥲🥲🥲 I’ve done a lot though. Hope it comes out nice anyway

Just a question about the number of chains,
Odd or Even?
The number of chains can be any number!
watch the video the whole way before guys it really helpp
So in the first raw is half double crochet?
can u do a balaclava like this ?

Hi! How would you recoomend doing this hat style with colours alternating vertically? instead of horizontally
hi, i wanna ask if i want to make alternating colors how can i do that? thank you in advance
Theres plenty of tutorials on how to switch yarn, it's quite simple
Viv, I sent you an email. You mentioned 60 chains but that does not equal 27 cm? I'm confused. Cate
Hey! It might vary depending on the yarn used
Mine turned out so cute but even with 4 hook it was to big for my head even for my daughter head 🤗 I’m going to try less chains though 🙈🤗
Can you do single crochet??? Because I don’t know how to half double

when you say stitch and even amount of rows, does the chain count as row 1 or no?
No, the chain is where you put your first row into! A row is a row of half double crochets

How many chains did you make?
ok. I'm at the part where you slipstitch the ends together and I've redone it already because the ends aren't matching up. WHAT DID I DO WRONG??? :( :( :( :(

what happens if my chain stiches are too tight?
If they’re too tight you can’t get your hook through, I would suggest undoing it and making them looser or using a bigger hook

How many time i can do this beannie ?
It looks so cool ty for the tutorial :))
Do you know how can I make it smaller? For a plushie😅
Thinner yarn/smaller hook/not as many rows
60 rows is how many cm up?
I did 66 rows and it ended up being about 40cm
