for some reason THIS is the video that finally taught me how to do the stitch properly after I went through like 10 vids, thank you. can’t wait to make my toque ☺️
Hi! Just a note that when you said to go into “the first chain” I thought you meant the first of the two chain stitches. After seeing my rows were increasing, I realized that when I think you meant was to go into the first stitch (the first V). I don’t know if other noobs like me might find that confusing! I figured it out after a few rows 😅 Thanks for a great tutorial!
I'm going by your measurements (18x10inch) since I'm using thinner yarn (I think weight 3 and 4mm hook) We'll see how it goes! Edit: Two days and 3000 stitches later, mine is done! I did 60 stitches and 50 rows, using hobbii's butterfly (color; sakura pink butterfly) yarn, and 4mm hook!! Thank you so much for the tutorial!
Okay, I am dumb, but the very first row (foundation row I guess) counts as a row or no? Like do we make 50 MORE rows (total of 51) or 50 rows in total?
@@juzahyodo3706no i don’t think the foundation chain row counts- it would be 50 additional rows. but i always just follow her final measurements 18in by approx 10 in. so if i need to add or subtract rows that is fine as long as i reach approx 18 inches- i do this because my yarn weight/size probably doesn’t match hers so going by measurements instead of row counts will guarantee the same size! 🙂 so then you can pretty much use whatever type of yarn you’d like without worrying about counting
Just completed this crochet cat hat and love how it turned out! I used size 4 Sugar ‘N Cream cotton yarn and went off of her size recommendation in inches instead of stitch counts since the yarn can sometimes make the project turn out different and/or I usually crochet tighter than normal. Highly recommended this tutorial if you are a beginner! ❤️
I have tried two different methods to make this hot and those patterns always had some kind of zigzag or straight line or diagonal line across part of the Hat that took away from the Perfect Image. Finally I thought there has to be an easier way like making a rectangle. I am so glad you have done this and I am so eager to make all my kids and grandkids and great grandkids these hats now. Thank you thank you thank you
Thank you so much for your tutorial I love how you was precise with your tutorial I’m loving my new hat for my grandgirls keep teaching many blessings to you🙏🏾
Good pattern tutorial but for those having trouble with finding the first chain stitch... use a stitch marker on each end when you turn. Also... love the yarn choice
Had to unravel my first attempt because im using a bigger hook and made it wayyy too tall, but just finished it and it's SO CUTE and cozy, thank you!! ❤
For anyone that's confused, they're using Yarn Over for the first part of the HDC, but then using Yarn Under for every other step. If you're naturally a tight crocheter, this is going to make your stitches Extra tight. Typically, one should use yarn over for every step, but as long as you're accustomed to how this change effects your stitches and tension, you should be able to work it out by changing your hook size, if your personal preference is to use Yarn Under. I never use Yarn Under myself, unless I'm making something that i want tight little stitches in, like amigurumi. I still hardly use it because I'm a tight crocheter to begin with
I didn't even realize I was doing this! Thank you! I usually have several projects going at once. I like to make amigurumi as well as traditional crochet pieces like hats etc. So I must be mixing up the stitches when I go back and forth between projects. It's never really seemed to make a difference (that I can tell anyway). But, as you pointed out, it's probably because my stitches are looser. I didn't think about it making a difference for those who naturally make tighter stitches. So thank you for pointing this out and thank you for your comment. Have a great day!
@@TiffanyBliss absolutely! No problem at all 😊 I just figured if someone is especially new, they should realize there's a difference since it "can" definitely effect their projects. I do love the way it helps to line up the stitches a little more with amigurumi though, so I'm planning to try it in the future, but with a bigger hook so I can get through my stitches 😅🤣
@@JeimiJamie Thank you so much! I'm a newbie and have only done the most basic of amigurumi and wanted to try this but when I watched the video, I was confused by the yarning over that looked like she was going under! Glad I was seeing correctly. But is it OK if I just do yarn over on both parts of the HDC? Or do I really need to do the yarn under to get the right effect. I tend to have pretty tight stitches I think. Still practicing and thought the beanie would be fun because it's nice and repetitive so good practice for consistent stitch tension.
@DBRMT no, you can use yarn over as normal 😊 I'm willing to bet that most of the people that have made this also just used yarn over as usual without noticing the creator was doing it differently 😊 and if you're fairly new and used to amigurumi tight stitches, it will probably be easier for you to not yarn under for any portion of this. Hope this helps and good luck! You can do it!
@@TiffanyBliss Hi! I'm about to make this hat but I was wondering how much yarn I'd need to be able to make it? Do you happen to know or have a really good estimate?
I really love this tutorial, and have made three hats for my fam out of it, but also find it a little bit wool consuming… Is there a way I can save wool whilst doing this anyone?
What you could do is chain a length and either compare it to where it falls on your head, or use a sizing chart for measurements and then compare it to a tape measure.
I saw a TikTok vaguely teaching how to do this and I've been a week stuck in the part where I turn the rectangle to a tube, no video was clear enough for me until I saw this one, using exactly the one stitch I used. The only thing that concerns me now is that I didn't do the texture bit with only using half of the v to do the half double crochet stitch so I'm considering frogging the whole thing but it frustrates me to think of days, weeks of my beginner struggle being frogged away 😭
Personally I can‘t stand to wear pure acrylic on my body, it makes me sweat. For very cold weathers it might be better than cotton. Cotton is better in not so cold weather :)
why does mine is getting "smaller"? at the beginning there was 60 chains and now, after some lines of double crochet (chaining two on the corners) it's like 40 at the actual line. Is it right? idk why this happened.
you probably aren’t going to the true end of the row each time- i did this on my first row and noticed it. the last stitch you stitch into is a little tucked away so it can be missed

what is the name of the stitch tho
@@Mari-fh4ft it's a half double crochet (hdc)
I hold my yarn the same way and have taught my 4 daughters and 5 granddaughters to do the same 😊
This turned out so cute!! I'm a baby crocheter... and this is the easiest pattern to follow. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

this is my first crochet work ever and it was so easy to follow. thank you so much i love the end product
I did this once not meaning to make one & it was my favorite hat 😋

Hi! Did you make this hat? If you did, do you happen to know how much yarn it used? Or like, a good estimate of how much yarn was used?
thank you soooo much for this tutorial 😭👍 i was unsure of how to join my rectangle together after finishing it and this helped so much!!!!
I loved this pattern but I need to make it for my five grandkids of various ages. Do you have a size chart?
thank you for this! the other method for making this hat wasn't working out for me well at all, so I needed this so much!
Had to unravel my first attempt because im using a bigger hook and made it wayyy too tall, but just finished it and it's SO CUTE and cozy, thank you!! ❤
having the same issue, i don’t know if you remember but mine is about a foot tall at this point and i’m 10 rows in, do you think that is too tall?
finally! found a vid that is exactly what i needed. gonna try to make one next weekend!
This came out so cute thanks for sharing
Thank you you made it so easy I sure will make one like that explained well 👍
I love it, thank you for sharing.♥️♥️♥️

Awesome! Thank you!
Super cute and easy
Wondering if you'd know where to change colors if you wanted the ears to be a different color yarn?
hopefully you figured it out but i guess just diagonally work up when you reach the right place
How much yarn would you need for this project?
I need to know how many foundation chains to make for a 1 yr old. Can anyone help please 🙏
My ribbing ended up horizontal, and it was way too small. Not sure what I did wrong but I’ll be trying again!

Do the ampunt of chains i need change depending on hook size?

would it ruin the design of the hat if we were to sc on the sides and top rather than ss? I'm worried about big heads popping it open lol
Any help with shrinkage? 🥺

How many chains for an infant one?
How long did this take you?
We’re did you buy your glass model
This particular one is a vintage one that my mom gave to me. She got it years ago, probably at a yard sale. You can find them on online sometimes.
❤❤❤
It is way too big for me.
Hellllppp!
