Had tons of fun making this and the guide was great! This has got to be one of my favorite videos from you. For 1, this game was hard as hell and you are an absolute legend for beating it multiple times(im playing it currently im at 98%). 2, it covered a few ways you can beat the levels strategically. And 3, it's just my favorite. W O A H
I had a bunch of these strategy guides for the games I played. Even if I didn't always need the advice (we had GameTalk and GameFAQs at the time), they were usually well made and entertaining to look through. Having people's first hand perspective of how they expect people to navigate and experience the world they put together is still interesting behind-the-scenes content. You can tell they had fun working on it!
Yes! that behind-the-scenes look is what always made me so interested in these guides They went into lots of detail with each level and made tons of jokes and references
It's strange that ND referenced Arnold Schwarzenegger when referring to Koala Kong, seeing as in the pitch bible, he was more based on Sylvester Stallone. Great job with the video! I'd watch more vids like this done with other games and their strategy guides or future games in the series in a heartbeat!
It's not so strange. If you make a character that is sort of like many different people, you can interchange any references. They may have used him in a pitch but not have based him directly on the guy. Just a generic body builder.
Nice. I actually recently dug out my old strategy guides and it's interesting replaying a game you know well and having that feeling of "wait, I wasn't supposed to do that?" 😂 The original _Crash_ always felt the most mysterious-feeling where secrets were concerned. Finding those areas with unique architecture and artwork, e.g. the Cortex portraits. 22:26 This one was always my favourite for the lighting, but also discovering the carvings of Cortex and N. Brio down below. It always felt creepy and weird, but then again, all of _Crash 1_ feels like that to me.
13:03 I'm fairly certain that Naughty Dog was making a joke based on Arnold Schwarzenegger and how people would say his first name in a terrible voice impression of his accent. That being said they transliterated how it sounds based on the impression. Go ahead and try it out for yourself! "Ahhrnold"
I never had official strategy guides, but I used to love printing pages off of GameFAQs, ASCII art covers and all. I had a whole binder pretty much per PS2 game I had.
This was such a cool video! I never had the strategy guides as a kid, I never knew that were that in depth! It’s wild though because I remember fully getting 100% on Crash and Spyro as a kid… and now as an adult, I’m so lost when I play 😅 I don’t know how I figured out half of this stuff as a kid lol
At least it was accurate. The only strategy guide I ever had was for Animal Crossing Wild World and there are so many wrong things in it it was frustrating. Especially how several of K. K.'s songs were falsely named so I couldn't collect all of them. I think it also gave false info on how to get golden tools... I had access to internet in 2005 but I just kinda liked physical books. Still, that one was a miss
Subbed, great video, I'd seen a lot of pokemon videos "beat the way the developers intended" but doing it for platformers is a great idea! Crash 1 is my most nostalgic video game, please do more of these for other crash games
Playing the n sane trilogy right now but just seeing the levels in all the PlayStation 1 glory again brings back memories. Thank you for the nostalgia trip. I hit the like on the video. Gonna check out what other content you have. Hope the channel grows. Much love.
Tawna is still in games, but they seem to be trying to replace her with this alternate dimension counterpart that's a generic storng female character, meaning they're trying to replace one cliche with another. The devs went overboard in the first game but have done better with her in the N-Sane trilogy and CTR Nitro-Fuelled.
I started with Crash 3, then 2 and finally 1. As a 6 year old child or so, I had no problems with going through CB3 and 2 100%, but with 1 I couldn't cope. At that time I didn't even know that I didn't have to smash the bonus crates and I always tried to collect them all, which in some cases was almost impossible. Well, and just passing levels like Slippery Climb or Sunset Vista without a single death was very difficult. Well, and those secret paths in some levels...I guess there weren't clues to all of them
Getting the 26 gems in the OG is nuts, I had 21 of them on the original, 5 clear gems missing, and then just moved on... 1 death screwed the access to the gem screen until the level's reset. Even worse when it's the toughest level, like the precise task of The Lab, or the absurdly long level of Sunset Vista. Good thing they clipped away Stormy Ascent, and stitched it to the Crash N.Sane instead 'cause *who'd have the patience to get THAT clear gem in the og???*
Replays the original Crash and analyze. Cortex is not a stupid joke, like the new games from now, is serious character with humor, is for another target.
This was pretty cool, but here is a question that puzzled me as a kid: Why was there a giant tapestry of Tawna in the great hall? I actually thought she was some form of royalty when I was a kid. Maybe it was an inside Tax Avery style joke?
To be honest I found both the original and N Sane Trilogy versions as tough as each other, except The High Road which was pointed out at the time of the release of N Sane was twice as hard
Why assume the guide was written by Naughty Dog? These books usually are by external publishers who throw in a couple of interviews and art to make it look official
The first Crash Bandicoot game was hard. The level design and controls made it hard. Though i do think the developers did genuinely make some levels hard, still I'd give the first game a 6/10. Good as a first Crash Bandicoot game but Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3 were so much better imo. Best games on the Playstation.
You've played Crash Bandicoot 100 times and you're first thought wasn't "Why am I wasting my life?" I'm only joking. I don't mean to sound cruel. Actually, I'm impressed. I only got 100% on the N. Sane Trilogy version.
Ive completed this game so many times because it was the first video game ive ever played since my parents use to own it and give me the controller that wasnt connected 😂once they gave me real control i got addicted lmaoo
why this video exist? is a full walktrought without funny moment, the video is unnecessary to the audio, and the audio isnt necessarry to the video. So why up load? is ugly boring why u do that?

@@Yorm_ No problem
I'm guessing "Ahhrnold" is an attempt at writing "Arnold" with Schwarzenegger's accent.
Great video! That guide is gold.
This guide puts a smile on my face because of how silly it is, this is what you call "charm"

This was a great watch, was good to see the strategy guide. I could of been doing with it as a kid as I never even had a memory card for a while 🤣

yeah i think this one was really accurate because it came directly from the developers and not a third party team or anything
I had this game as a kid, it would always freeze when i got to the temple level
mine would always freeze when i got too Ripper roo Lmao
The writer became unhinged as the guide goes on.
"Focus on delivering this one like Santa to a bad boy. Give him the high, hard one"?🤨

Great vid - love seeing these old guides. I'm a particular fan of Spyro, any chance of seeing one of those guides done?
are u reading my mind ? (:
13:03 its because arnold swarsniger says stuff like ahhh get to the chopper but yeah its an Arnold schwarzenegger because he is pretty buff and fit
Fumbling in the dark is also the hardest level for me. Like, I take 10x as long as I take on Sunset Vista or Slipery Climb. Feel ya

The most ironic part, is that now, it owns to the rival of the company that put it CB the map. :/

Crash Bandicoot will forever be from Naughty Dog, no company could do it better.
the original Naughty Dog Team was amazing!

Exactly what I'm saying the first crash bandicoot what's the best no other crash bandicoot games can't even close to being as good as the first one
Man the author of that guide was down dubious for Tawna
Oh, so the Tawna in the Bonus Round is a mirage? That's made so much clearer in the Japanese version where she actually disappears when you get close.
Exactly like how Minecraft was intended, aka I build a 5x5 house
If the original Stormy Ascent never got cut, the game will be even harder.
This was pretty cool, but here is a question that puzzled me as a kid:

I actually thought she was some form of royalty when I was a kid.
Maybe it was an inside Tax Avery style joke?
Could you do a video on Crash Team Racing PS1?
i expected the rope trick for the bride to be in the strategy guide
I wonder if this still applies to the Crash N Sane Trilogy version which I have? And 😂😂😂 at some of the things in the book.
This game would be my favorite of the trilogy if the movement was better, same with the save system.
To be honest I found both the original and N Sane Trilogy versions as tough as each other, except The High Road which was pointed out at the time of the release of N Sane was twice as hard
