I wasn't sure how people would feel about it, particularly the part about weaving in this unrelated story about Everest. They say you should grab viewers attention immediately and I guess I decided to tell you an unrelated story for a solid minute and a half. That allegory has been swimming in my head for almost a year and the fact that it resonated with some of you is really special.
@@peaman3905 Good question. In the original the boxes from the Bonus levels weren't required for 100%. They changed this for Crash 2 and 3, so when the remakes were made Crash 1 was changed to require the bonuses as well. I "think" this is the fastest run recorded with all boxes from bonuses ua-cam.com/video/Ih4KYSFTYFI/v-deo.html
Glad to see this video finally be made. I think out of all my speedgames, Crash 1 will probably be my most memorable fiesta of great paces and awful fails. I'm glad that a new generation of runners have pushed this game as far as they have, and it's impressive to see how deep the tech has become.
Hey, thanks! Been a fan of your stuff for about 7-8 years. I really appreciate your ability to share music in a way that resonates with anyone. Hope I can do the same with the stories I tell.
EVEN ROB IS HERE?! HAHAHA I'm out here going crazy over how this gem of a channel doesn't have a popular following, when I see all of my favorite even childhood content creators pop up in the comments. Rob, I love your personality and will always take something good out of having the pleasure to know your content.
What an amazing piece Hum, you've really outdone yourself once again. This video really took me back through the years. I remember watching Cane when he was first lowering the 100% record back in the day, and hanging out with him at multiple GDQs, shopping at old video stores for bizarre PS1 games. I remember taking a train down to see WHiP where we attempted to do a 24 hour stream playing various speedgames where we both fell asleep from exhaustion. Tebt pushing this game to insane heights these days is awesome to see, and it always brings a smile to my face whenever i see him post a new PB on twitter. Congrats to everyone who was involved in the history of this game and the insanely difficult category that is 100%. I've been a supporter of yours ever since i saw your Resident Evil 4 video, your work boasts incredible editing, good story telling and improvements with every video. Regardless of how commited to UA-cam you are, i really hope your channel and videos grow to new heights. Other creators have a lot to take away from your work, you're truly one of the very best in this field.
That 24hr stream was the first time I found out about you! Great memories. Thank you for the kind words. You reaching out after RE4 gave me so much confidence that what I was doing was something special. I'm so excited for what we will do for the Playstation Speedrunning scene.
I have no words. This is art. Beautiful video, Hum. Thank you so much for this gift you have given our community today. The Koji curse section is by far my favourite part of the video and my favourite era of all of the ones I've been present for - even more than the current era where I hold the record a decent ways ahead of 2nd. The grind, the late night degen voice calls with Paaws, Rex, and others just getting destroyed by the game for several months and never knowing if today would be the day one of us gets it...were unforgettable. And now it is forever preserved with this video. Wow. It's so nostalgic.
Don't get me wrong. Summoning Salt is amazing...but I can't believe I was naive enough to think he's the only one making Speedruning docs. This is a true masterpiece.
Finally got some time to watch the video today. And maaaaan it was absolutely incredible, everything was so well put together. You really took me through memory lane with it, definitely got hit with nostalgia and made me tear up. Thank you sooooo much for doing this video and best of luck in your next projects Hum

Tebt broke the 1:02 barrier for the first time yesterday, with a time of 1:01:38. Slightly less than 2 years after his record breaking 1:02:28. Wonder if/when we'll see a run under 1 hour.
I just sat through the whole video and man- This was amazingly well done. Mad props. Everything from the editing, to the examples used and the story telling, it was fantastic. Crash 1 is my least favourite out of the trilogy but now you've got my attention, just the way Ricky got my attention with Dayo & Spyro 1, you just got my attention with Tebt so thank you for this!
This is such a beautiful homage to the enigma that is Crash 1. It's a legendary game that laid the foundation for one of the greatest game series ever made. I'm not a speedrunner myself but Crash 1 was a massive part of my childhood. Seeing it continue to live on through the speedrunning community like this makes me so happy. The Mallory quote is on point: "You speedrun Crash 1 because it's there."
Remember kids: strive to be as optimistic as the "timesave for next run" stream monsters Beautiful fuggin vid man. I haven't watched speedrun history stuff in awhile and this has me feelin some kinda way (and I've never even played crash)
Ya know, I liked this video immediately, but I think I fell in love when you showed a 3D demonstration view with yellow highlights to explain some of the complex tricks. That's truly next-level effort. Outstanding work! And congrats on your new subscriber (me!)
wow this video. the storytelling, the editing, the suspence, it's just incredible how a simple nerdy hobby for an almost 30yo videogame can be depicted as the true awesomeness as it is. Just wonderful. Best, in terms of *quality*, youtube video I have watched for a long time
Absolutely amazing video, I love hearing about the speedrunning histories of these games I grew up with and telling the story of people that are still running these games and pushing their limits to this day. Doing a Crash 100% speedrun is probably the most intimidating category to me out of the OG Sprash games. I want to do that at least once, even if my goal is just to survive the run. It's mindblowing to see several full completion runs of the game that are faster than the one any% run I put down in this game. This was a wonderfully framed story, and the Mount Everest allegory wrapped with the speedrunning story meshed beautifully. Absolutely amazing work, Hum. P.S. It put such a smile on my face hearing Tekken 2 and R4 OST pop up in this video. Nicely done.
Hey man I doubt you're ever going to hear this, but I teared up on your point about being passionate about your hobbies. I've struggled with being ashamed of things internally and getting myself hung up on stalling out and never doing things out of fear and ridiculing myself, and this just, affirmed me that at 28, finally starting a bunch more nerdy or outsider hobbies is fine. That I can and will keep doing what I love. I took on trying to speedrun Ninja Gaiden this year, I've gotten into so many more games that I always put off, I've done so much more for me in this last year and hearing you say those affirmative words at the end of this video exactly about the hobbies I love, you man I love you for that. You made my night.
This editing and pacing is something of a channel with millions of subscribers, say Lemmino and other high budget channels, the visuals and the whole effort is worth everything you put into this. I played crash early enough in my life to really enjoy this video, along with the interaction. Well in you, go ed son
This video is incredible! The editing and commentary go so hand in hand, the intro is more impactful than anything I've come across AND the video felt exciting throughout. This video really is one to come back to, because it's here. Well done & thank you Hum!
The only real responsibility we have as human beings is to be ourselves fully. Not who we want to be but who we really are. Speedrunners, whether or not they conciously understand this, devote themselves to this expanding of humanity. 'what one man can do. another can do" If no one said, "what if i could do the impossible?"m wed still be in the caves. Maybe the best speedrun video ive seen, honestly. Bravo n stuffs lol. You earned it.
Damn. What a fuckin' journey man. The analogy to mountain climbing is very evocative, really illustrates what it is that's so captivating about speedrunning, even for someone like me who's just watching. Chasing an impossible dream just to see how far you can go. Excellent video, Hum. Absolutely knocked it out of the park.
I really like what you did with the music and audio effects. Great video! Edit: I wrote the above while still in the middle of the video. What you did with this documentary is art.
I was never able to legitimately 100% Crash 1 without cheats back when I had a PS1. And here it is being beaten with plenty of skips, insane movements and at unimaginable times. Massive kudos to all runners involved and to you for making this video. The topic of Mr Mallory's grind to climb Everest was recently put in the spotlight thanks to Emplemon's video on the subject so that existing familiarity was welcome.
Man! This is such a high bar of production & great work - I was fucking surprised and shocked that you don't have a 'zero' more on your subscriber count. Well done. Even cited sources in the comments. This is what I wanted when I searched for a Crash Bandicoot Documentary to get comfy to, hahahah. o7! OH, EVEN CADDY SAW IT AND COMMENTED?! You have to be shitting me
I have watched so, so many of these speedrun history videos, dating all the way back to the beginning of SummoningSalt's meteoric rise - and this is by far the best one I've seen. Production value, narrative, on-screen visuals, pacing, even something as small as mic presence; they're all top-notch and combine into literally the strongest showing this genre of video has seen, bar none. Amazing job, you have blown away the competition.
Wow, videos like this are the reason videos were invented. Truly a masterpiece ty for making this. Every single sound, quote and soundtrack selection just hits so hard along with the crazy skills of the different runners.
Your editing is just insanely great, you also have a nice voice for commentary! Full history of speedruns really are amazing for shedding light on a game. They're perfect for me to watch, due to them being so moving. I bet this video will inspire someone to run Crash, or speedrun in general. I loved the part about hobbies. They really have inspired me to do great things. Even if they're my own goals I set for myself or I'm not "as good" as someone else, I reached mine and improved! Oh and I loved the Subnautica OST for the one segment, it slaps.
The quality of this video is insane. The narration, the presentation, the music -- what a journey! I'm not a speedrunner but the dedication these people have is inspiring. I've toyed with the idea of giving it a try myself but (ironically) I don't have the time for it at the moment. Videos like this really make me want to, though. Nevertheless, this video got me pumped for my own pursuits. Fantastic job!
it's about time someone finally covered Crash running, Crash 2 is my personal fav speed game to do and im loving the effort put into covering this game! Might even give Crash 1 another chance after seein this. love it
alright fine 9 minutes in and im subbing for the Lisa music Edit: The Outer wilds and hollow knight music is also nice to hear. Man the last half of the video is like a DBZ arc with a super powerful villain coming out of nowhere and the heroes entering a training arc for one of them to go beyond and surpass the villain only for them to reveal another form and the training cycle continues once more but alone and more passionate then ever.
Fucking outstanding work. As a longtime Sprash fan, it is amazing to see such high quality videos get made for this niche, and you just slapped a grand slam with this beast of a documentary. You deserve way more views, but you should be proud of what you created no matter how many people see this. Top notch.
A phenomenal video of one of my favourite games of all time, as a former runner having this information documented is really important and its great that more people get to see this!
I was starting to think that the original Crash trilogy wouldn't get covered in documentaries like these due to how seemingly simplistic they are, but I've been proven wrong. Some of the movement and skips showcased here had my jaw on the floor. An analogy like mountain climbing is a pretty simple one for speedrunning, but it's put to great use here. I'm gonna have that "because it's there" quote stuck in my head now for sure.
Man... Arguably one of the best videos that I've seen in my whole life, Crash Bandicoot games are my childhood, and watch people speedrunning the original trilogy games were one of the funniest hobbies I once had as a teenager in my free time
No sarcasm, no BS: this is legitimately the best-produced speedrunning video on the Internet. Unbelievable editing, outstanding music selection, great presentation, script, and narration, and just a wonderful, digestible introduction to the players and history of the game. _Thank you_ for making this, and I hope you're able to keep making more.
Easily one of the best speedrunning videos I've ever seen. Your narration, production, music choices and pacing made it so enjoyable and engaging to watch. Thank you.
I usually put on a UA-cam video to fall asleep to and I love watching documentaries on speedrunning with a soft narrator talking over the evolution of a speedgame. Usually knocks me out within 5min. This video is so well narrated and edited that I simply could not fall asleep because it was so entertaining. A true masterpiece! Congrats!
This is absolutely incredible. I can't even imagine how much time this took to make. As a runner of Crash 1 (and just Crash in general) this was very entertaining to watch, I'd say that even if someone doesn't run Crash they would still enjoy this. I'm a pretty new runner and wasn't there to see some of the older runs, but those times are still pretty damn good. I remember being in Tebt's stream when he got the first 1:02, absolutely phenomenal. Again, amazing video. Keep up the great work.
Koji dominating the top board for so long is so funny to me as a brazilian but it also makes a lot of sense to anyone from here. the ps2 was by far the most popular console in Brazil seeing as it was the only actually affordable one to families, and i haven't met anyone who hasn't played one Crash game on it. even by grandmother knew the game series by name. great video dude.
This video sent chills down my spine. I notice that a lot of PlayStation speedrun stories always have a sad feeling of finality, followed by a moment of triumph, as if the community is saying that there's never truly an end. This video is a shining example of that. Can't wait to see what you make next.
Since I was a kid Crash Bandicoot has been my favorite game for years, I barely speedrunned it by myself, reaching nothing higher than 1:40 but I enjoy beating my own PBs a lot! Beating my own "Mout Everest" is something special for me, and watching this video made me cry just for all the music, the art direction and everything is so good, really it is. Hope you get more subs, you really deserve them and I'll follow your recent activity, great video.
I haven't watched this all yet but as someone who has only fairly recently gotten into watching speedrunning (6-7 years ago) I've found it incredibly fascinating. Bravo sir.
I initially discovered the vortex category because of your previous video, which ended up being one of my favorite speedrun categories to watch last year. I love that you focus on underrated speedrun categories with your videos. There are a lot of great speedrun categories that never get much attention, which is one of the reasons why I enjoy speedrunning a niche category.
Using Pikmin Music to emphasize Papu Papu health, and then using the game's own Adaptive Music layers to emphasize a WR. Truly, an editor after my heart. ;P
How can I thank you for making such a masterpiece. I had shivers for most of the video when you were comparing the speedrunning mentality with the Everest. Thank you so much for what you have done there.
this is one of the best speedrun essays i've ever seen! amazing storytelling and editing [i especially love how a song from the machinarium OST made its way in there]. cane was the first crash speedrunner i watched when i found twitch in 2013, his passion for the game was evident back then. i'm mainly just a lurker/consumer of crash speedrun content [i ran OG & NST 3 but never submitted times] and i'm always blown away at the little details and tech that's present in these games. anyways, great job and keep it up! YT needs more awesome speedrun essays like this, haha.
Absolutely phenomenal, so glad I subscribed to you after watching your Pac-Man Art of Speedrunning video. After a year of absence, you coming back with this, it didn't disappoint; The captions, the graphs, music, the overall presentation/video was flawless! (The section at 51:23 to 54:00 gave me chills the whole way through). I will be REALLY disappointed and angry if this video doesn't get half a million views (AT LEAST) in the first few weeks. I want this video AND this channel to blow up like all the other great Speedrunning documentary channels. Also shout-out to my boy Chris for his AMAZING DEADBOLT (at 11:36) and Risk of Rain 1+2 soundtracks, represent!
I am truly grateful for the UA-cam algorithm for showing me this I have been in love with this saga since I was a child and man, watching this kind of content always makes me feel so hyped, it was truly a journey to watch from beginning to the end, and I hope the community of speedrun keeps growing, thanks for this video, it made my day
youtube rec'd this for me because i've been watching a lot of speedrun histories lately, and i just wanted to say that not only is this an amazing video, but i'm grateful for the message that you layer in on it from beginning to end: to do something just because it's there. passion drives me too, and even if you're right that i'll never speedrun this game (i don't have the attention span to do what they do!) being able to silently cheer on records long past and ones made to be broken makes me happy, too. speedrunning is really an artform and seeing the amount of love and will people have is amazing!!! thank you again!!
That's an interesting point in the intro. I've been thinking about what exactly makes a speedrun more interesting, and difficulty certainly has something to do with it.
The quality of documentaries on UA-cam now is better than it’s ever been on TV and I love it! Just goes to show how many great film makers never even had a chance to show their skills until UA-cam came around ❤️
Very nice video. The beginning reminded me of when I first started hanging around crash and learning how things work. Also shows the effort required by the runners in a way I didnt consider.
I cannot believe the algorithm fed me this video just now. I swear to you I have been lamenting the lack of any good deep dive videos into the Crash speedrunning community on UA-cam recently. I honestly don’t have words to express how amazing this video was to watch. I witnessed most of Cane’s rise and some of WP’s with my own eyes (Chronicreloader is my handle on Twitch, not a promo, I don’t stream) and have fond memories of my time spent in that community. Hell, even to this day I fall asleep nightly to the UA-cam video of one of Cane’s former WR’s. The game itself (first I ever played) and the speed running community as a whole for it is very dear to me. I didn’t watch the streams regularly once Koji came onto the scene, but I was always peripherally aware of the milestones that were being reached. Thank you so much for giving this game’s speedrunning story the chronicling it deserves. Instant favorite. I can’t wait to share it with my mom. Her and I played it a lot when I was just a lad. Good memories. Much love to all.
The music choices here are absolutely based. Extremely good video, and I'm not even done watching it yet. Every time a new song comes on, I just laugh. Fantastic "scoring"
Absolutely phenomenal video. That was just beautiful, dude. The editing was studio-level, but so personal and human. The themes were poignant, the music was spot-on and the whole video was an inspiration to me as a creator. And it made me want to join the hunt in climbing to a new peak in the game! My favourite part was touching on the human nature to want to push something to its limits, "because it's there". Discussing the morality between 'wasting time' when a record's inevitably broken, it's one of the reasons I'm conflicted about speedrunning myself. I think to sustainably run, you have to enjoy the journey. The friends you make along the way, the other runners you're inspired from and hopefully inspire in the future, and the thrill of the chase. That was undoubtedly the best speedrunning documentary I've ever seen, and one of the best videos I've watched period. I'm going to show this to a lot of my friends and come back for inspiration on making my own content! You should be deeply proud of yourself man.
Fucking epic. I'm craving more. For real, I hope you tackle some more Crash stuff because the series has such a rich speedrun history (not to mention loads of games and stories that are just slept on)
I dunno man, this whole video have a huge impact on me. All of this screams of passion and dedication. Sitting here, well-knowing the video is about breaking one WR after another, a person who knows what it means to be deeply passionated about one's hobby, this is touching. A lot goes to the editing and the way it's presented.. But this kind of video is sometimes better than watching a movie or even playing a game. Thank you for touching on one of my first PS games in my childhood. Thank you.
I've always had a lot of respect for this game's top players since I had a brief stint of trying out Any% back in 2017. I can't quite put it into words, but this video is just *surreal* to watch. Amazing work!
this video is honestly a work of art. the cinematics, the drama, the soundtrack, all the emotion (and the subtitles that i could not be more grateful for). absolute perfection 10/10, thank you so much for this masterpiece
UA-cam suggestions are sometimes really bad. But this time i am really greatfull that it showed me this masterpice. Editing and storytelling are just out of this world. References to Everest perfectly suitable. Good job.
as a crash1 any% speedrunner this video inspired me to keep pushing myself to shave seconds off my time and climb the leaderboard, and it’s given me extra insight on how to improve runs. i’m proud to have my niche little hobby :)
I feel like I should be thanking you for letting us watch this instead of the other way around, Hum. I've seen so many speedrun history/explanation videos (and even tried my hands at making one last year) but this was something else. Every moment in this video meant something, every edit was so clean, and best of all, everything thematically followed you every step of the way. The way you were able to fully wrap up and condense everything we just watched into three words is astounding. I didn't watch this video just "because it's there", its more like you said with crash 2, this video asked me nicely to watch it, and there was no chance I was gonna miss it. Thank YOU for making this video, it truly is a masterpiece.
The effort that went into this is something else. Lots of speedrunning channels have been putting out extremely high quality content so I'm really glad this managed to get picked up by the algorithm and hope the effort pays off for you.
Fantastic editing, brilliant music choice (anyone throwing fox capture plan some love gets a huge boost in my books) and immaculate commentary. Truly one of the best video essays on the platform
Man, I never subscribe to people on UA-cam, but as I watched this video while hand making my own air jordans, that last bit about hobbies hit me. You earned the sub, great content my man
This is absolutely a peak of speedrun content. You did a fantastic job of building a narrative over the course of the video that had me fully engrossed the entire time.
Wasn’t expecting to hear Marc Rebillet in this awesome video, but it’s a very welcome choice of music! Recently I’ve been looking into how the communities of Playstation games have interacted, seeing as my experience is mostly Nintendo related, with some minor experience in LBP and God of War as well. ThaRixer has been one source to feed my recent interest, and then your video title caught my eye, I knew I was in for a good one once the intro was done. ^•^
I don't comment very often on youtube but your video was incredible! I was hooked during the whole time, your story telling and editing skills are amazing! I've never played OG Crash 1 as a kid (only got 2 and 3 back then) but as being part of the sprash community I've heard how hard and cruel this game can be and I've always had huge respect to those guys climbing that mountain. This video is best tribute to them. I'll keep sharing your work because you truly deserve it and I hope this video goes high in numbers. Thank you hum !
Phenomenal video Hum! One of, if not, the best speedrunning video I've seen. The editing makes everything easy to understand and checks all the boxes to tell this story in such an engaging and fun way. Will definitely be showing this to some of my good friends and I can see myself re-watching it from time to time. You should feel super proud. Can't wait for more.
I’ve watched a lot of speedrunning videos, from a lot of creators. This one in particular conveyed a sense of passion that raised that bar an increment, I think especially from how long the last montage was-it had room to breathe in the best way. Good luck and upwards.
Honestly this video is beatiful, from the music choice, the editing, the narration, everything is perfect. That ending got me real good, I remember this being the first game I ever played and how INSANELY difficult it was for a kid, I remember watching the coloured gems and thinking "how the hell am I supposed to get those?". PlayStation 1 games were something else... Growing up i had to replay all of those games because to me it was about my honor as a gamer. I had to complete them to see what it was all about. And here I am watching videos of speedrunners doing the craziest things that the kid me could have never believed. Games aren't "just" games, as you said in the end they create a community who is constantly trying to push it to the limits and it's simply beatiful. Maybe it's just the nostalgia speaking, but even if it was who cares?
I'm a professional video editor and i have to compliment you for the attention of details of this video. From the music to the cuts, assets, style choices and beyond, this is one of the best editing i've seen on this platform. Great video!
52:43 This part, along with the music The whole build up to this point, where each and every piece of knowledge they could use about the game and his mechanics was being applied, lowering the total time lower and lower, until that "OMG...I did it. YEEEEAH! LET'S GO!!!" (my man was on FIRE) Got me so pumped up man, literal chills. I would've never imagined a game I love so much could be squeezed so damn hard This video was amazing man, I've been watching it non-stop for like 1 week The way you narrate, the comparison with mountain-climbing, the music EVERYTHING is top tier!! Love it!!!! Thanks so much!

Thank you all for such a warm reception to the video so far.
As a person who hasn’t played the original crash 1 and only the remake, why don’t they go into the bonus rounds?
@@peaman3905 Good question.
In the original the boxes from the Bonus levels weren't required for 100%.
They changed this for Crash 2 and 3, so when the remakes were made Crash 1 was changed to require the bonuses as well.
I "think" this is the fastest run recorded with all boxes from bonuses ua-cam.com/video/Ih4KYSFTYFI/v-deo.html
@@Hummeldon thanks.
What is the background music playing at 21:18 in this video?
@@Hummeldon Nevermind, I remembered it was from FFX on Besaid Island. Really good music choices all around.
The music and editing make it seem like you’re talking about an unsolved kidnapping and I really dig it
Crash 1 is serious shit
It really does, it makes it very entertaining.
Ah yes, the man who collected all plats in Cash Banooca history, Daddi Caddi.
@@herostail479 i love you dad cady ✨
no, YOU'RE the shit! this video is a gem and so is your latest one about accessories ❤
Daddi caddi, speedrun is hardi
Great video. Thanks for making this
I gotta say I love that line “ he completed his masters degree and was ready to jump back into crash 😂
The GOAT himself. In my heart at least. 😅
Great comment. Thanks for typing this
Goat
Thank you for making history
Glad to see this video finally be made. I think out of all my speedgames, Crash 1 will probably be my most memorable fiesta of great paces and awful fails. I'm glad that a new generation of runners have pushed this game as far as they have, and it's impressive to see how deep the tech has become.
This was really great
Hey, thanks! Been a fan of your stuff for about 7-8 years. I really appreciate your ability to share music in a way that resonates with anyone. Hope I can do the same with the stories I tell.
this is an unexpected name lol
renowned and celebrated guitarist and youtuber Rob Scallon!? What a suprising person to see here.
Well said Ricky .
heeey i found your channel yesterday, and now i see u comment here, u guys know eachother lol i love your channel btw !
Blessed
I have no words. This is art. Beautiful video, Hum. Thank you so much for this gift you have given our community today.
The Koji curse section is by far my favourite part of the video and my favourite era of all of the ones I've been present for - even more than the current era where I hold the record a decent ways ahead of 2nd. The grind, the late night degen voice calls with Paaws, Rex, and others just getting destroyed by the game for several months and never knowing if today would be the day one of us gets it...were unforgettable. And now it is forever preserved with this video. Wow. It's so nostalgic.
Hey thanks for making me smile every time I saw your profile pic, really elevated the proceedings
Congrats on the new record king
I'm so glad I watched this. video and learned about the Crash 100% history and your part in it.
Heeeeeeeey, awesome to know Colombians are making progress on the Speedrunning scene!!!
Keep it up!!!, Wepajé!!! ❤️

Loved the outer wilds music in the soundtrack!
Tebt broke the 1:02 barrier for the first time yesterday, with a time of 1:01:38. Slightly less than 2 years after his record breaking 1:02:28. Wonder if/when we'll see a run under 1 hour.
I heard! Really exciting. I definitely knew he was capable of it especially with the new Rolling Stones stuff. He is so good at the game.
This video is disgustingly well edited and composed. I'm not even interested in the speed running community, and I was glued to my screen.
Remember kids: strive to be as optimistic as the "timesave for next run" stream monsters
Beautiful fuggin vid man.
Next level? He used ms paint on a screenshot. Lol.
Thanks for the inspiration to give this amazing category a try
DAYO HI!!!
Because of you, I can't stop shouting "LETS FUCKING GO"
wow this video.
the storytelling, the editing, the suspence, it's just incredible how a simple nerdy hobby for an almost 30yo videogame can be depicted as the true awesomeness as it is.
Tekken 2 was the first ever game I played. Love it to death.
I took on trying to speedrun Ninja Gaiden this year, I've gotten into so many more games that I always put off, I've done so much more for me in this last year and hearing you say those affirmative words at the end of this video exactly about the hobbies I love, you man
I love you for that. You made my night.
This editing and pacing is something of a channel with millions of subscribers, say Lemmino and other high budget channels, the visuals and the whole effort is worth everything you put into this. I played crash early enough in my life to really enjoy this video, along with the interaction. Well in you, go ed son
Lemmino is a MASSIVE influence. I admire his work so much. Thank you for the kind words.
Absolutely incredible video 🙏
This video is incredible! The editing and commentary go so hand in hand, the intro is more impactful than anything I've come across AND the video felt exciting throughout. This video really is one to come back to, because it's here. Well done & thank you Hum!
The only real responsibility we have as human beings is to be ourselves fully.
Not who we want to be but who we really are.
Speedrunners, whether or not they conciously understand this, devote themselves to this expanding of humanity.
'what one man can do. another can do"
If no one said, "what if i could do the impossible?"m wed still be in the caves.
Yeah uh gaming
I really like what you did with the music and audio effects. Great video!
Edit: I wrote the above while still in the middle of the video. What you did with this documentary is art.
I was never able to legitimately 100% Crash 1 without cheats back when I had a PS1. And here it is being beaten with plenty of skips, insane movements and at unimaginable times. Massive kudos to all runners involved and to you for making this video. The topic of Mr Mallory's grind to climb Everest was recently put in the spotlight thanks to Emplemon's video on the subject so that existing familiarity was welcome.
Emp's video was so good. I was so surprised when I saw that video pop up because I figured I was the only one researching the dude.
Not even gonna lie this is the best documentary on speedrunning I've seen
as of me writing this comment, this video has 8.7k views. if it doesn't hit 1M views within a month, we'll have failed as a species
Might even give Crash 1 another chance after seein this. love it
Honestly? Higher production value than summoning salt, and more entertaining. Great vid
Insane video and editing, very well done man!
alright fine 9 minutes in and im subbing for the Lisa music
Edit: The Outer wilds and hollow knight music is also nice to hear.
Every speedrun history essay is like a goddamn Shonen in scale of epicness, I swear it's friggin' rad as hell.
Phenomenal video. I walked out of this with not only an appreciation of the Crash 1 community, but a greater appreciation of Crash 1 itself!
Keep up the great work.
why is this the most beautiful speedrunning video
I love speedrunning documentaries, and I love that a brazilian was such an important part of this game's speedrunning scene because I am brazilian
What an amazing piece of content. This truly is the peak of speedrunning documentaries
This video sent chills down my spine. I notice that a lot of PlayStation speedrun stories always have a sad feeling of finality, followed by a moment of triumph, as if the community is saying that there's never truly an end. This video is a shining example of that. Can't wait to see what you make next.
This is one of the best speedrunning videos I've ever seen. I can't wait to pick up Crash 1.
What an amazing video. Even for someone who has never even played Crash Bandicoot this video offered fascinating journey. Thank you for your effort.
Chris Christodoulou is such a good composer! Thank you for the kind words.
I am truly grateful for the UA-cam algorithm for showing me this
I have been in love with this saga since I was a child and man, watching this kind of content always makes me feel so hyped, it was truly a journey to watch from beginning to the end, and I hope the community of speedrun keeps growing, thanks for this video, it made my day
That final segment with the music and the runs, getting the record lower and lower made me tear up.
Great video, man. Truly great.
youtube rec'd this for me because i've been watching a lot of speedrun histories lately, and i just wanted to say that not only is this an amazing video, but i'm grateful for the message that you layer in on it from beginning to end: to do something just because it's there. passion drives me too, and even if you're right that i'll never speedrun this game (i don't have the attention span to do what they do!) being able to silently cheer on records long past and ones made to be broken makes me happy, too. speedrunning is really an artform and seeing the amount of love and will people have is amazing!!!
thank you again!!
This wasn’t supposed to make me tear up dude, I’m so proud of you ♥️
The music choices here are absolutely based.
This is probs one of the most polished video on speedruns I've seen. I love the Mt Everest theme throughout. And that outro, damn
Fucking epic. I'm craving more.
For real, I hope you tackle some more Crash stuff because the series has such a rich speedrun history (not to mention loads of games and stories that are just slept on)
Eeey you’re the man
I dunno man, this whole video have a huge impact on me.
Thank you.
I always thought of summoning salt as the gold standard of these kinds of videos but this is arguably better
I've always had a lot of respect for this game's top players since I had a brief stint of trying out Any% back in 2017. I can't quite put it into words, but this video is just *surreal* to watch.
Amazing work!
this is one of the best written + edited videos on the entire platform. truly a masterpiece.
this video is honestly a work of art. the cinematics, the drama, the soundtrack, all the emotion (and the subtitles that i could not be more grateful for). absolute perfection 10/10, thank you so much for this masterpiece
Awesome video, I wasn't expecting so much professional quality in the editing and storytelling. I truly hope your channel gets the views it deserves.
Hi 😍
10/10, would learn about more peaks again. Amazing work, Hum.
Superb work 👌
This is probably the best crash speedrunning history video I've ever seen. Great work!
You are MASSIVELY underrated, you deserve WAY more views for the amount of work put into this video.
This. This is quality, good pacing, editing and a great story with great characters to boot, amazing work man!
52:43
This part, along with the music
The whole build up to this point, where each and every piece of knowledge they could use about the game and his mechanics was being applied, lowering the total time lower and lower, until that
"OMG...I did it. YEEEEAH! LET'S GO!!!" (my man was on FIRE)
Got me so pumped up man, literal chills.
I would've never imagined a game I love so much could be squeezed so damn hard
This video was amazing man, I've been watching it non-stop for like 1 week
The way you narrate, the comparison with mountain-climbing, the music
EVERYTHING is top tier!! Love it!!!!
Thanks so much!
