He produced the Uncharted Film (mediocre trash) and has been dedicating his time more so to The Last Of Us TV show as showrunner/writer. In simple terms, he went to Hollywoo.
Just wanted to write that you summed up the situation rather well for the chaotic mess that is Naughty Dog. Between the production hell of the last two titles, the damaging PR interviews with Druckmann and Gross admitting via Indiewire the mess the script was in and how they changed it constantly on the fly, it is clear the plot has been lost on the whole company with retention numbers through the roof and having to rely on contractors via the VFX industry to get it done (what happened during TLOU 2 production). Honestly, with so many key figures gone including the founder Evan Wells, it's safe to say they have gone the way of Bioware in becoming a husk of their former selves. It sucks but it's inevitable. PS: Neil Druckmann deserves the criticism and getting pimp slap for wasting the talented actor Jeffery Wright (fantastic recently in American Fiction) for two scenes...yes only two scenes.
Evan Wells wasn't the founder. He was made co President in 2005 and full President in 2017. He retired after 30 years in the industry, it's not like he left somewhere else (at least nothing like that has been announced). Like Druckmann he was promoted to President from within. Not sure why people are against them promoting successful Devs from within like they always have
What game of the year? From the pc perspective last of us is a nice movie with 0 replayability, but uncharted is a complete piece of shit, I'm really glad I refunded it

I'm pretty sure R* has lost valuable people throughout. The thing is, as a studio, they never compromise what they believe in. They also uphold their standard of quality. Workplace wise is another story tho.

After watching this entire video, I can't help but worry about the state of Naughty Dog. Yeah they blessed us with some many great games, but it all came at a cost. And now they're giving us remasters and remakes that we don't need(but low-key though, I'll gladly take a Jak & Daxter remake)and cancelled a game that we all been looking forward to. Well unlike EA or Microsoft, thankfully, Sony doesn't have a habit of killing studios. Even the team behind Days Gone, which Sony has been treating with nothing but overt contempt despite raking in exponential profits, gets to stay alive but be shuffled off to do work for other studios. So what you can expect to see if things get worse is an internal investigation and restructuring, which is *exactly* what they need. Right now, literally every single issue Naughty Dog has can be traced to one man, Neil Druckmann, and it may take the company getting close to being shut down before they are willing to put a stop to him.
I disagree with your last point brotha. I don't think Naughty Dog tryna pick up the pieces of what they once were. They are trying to successfully complete an identity shift from what they once were. It's sad seeing a lot of legacy devs just become a shell of their former self. Bioware, Bungie, Naughty Dog, Bethesda. It's happening to a lot of once GOATS in the industry. This was a super well put together video and explains a lot about how after the core members leave, there's no vision anymore and everything falls apart. A lot of the older games like The Last of Us or Halo 3 almost felt like magic in a bottle. Maybe devs just can't hold onto the magic forever...
Everything goes away with time, and every society, culture, and industry has eras, it goes up and down. Its why I'm not mad about the degradation of famous film IPs like Star Wars anymore, nothing can exist for like 100 years and maintain quality, but maybe with enough time everything returns to glory. Either way, we gotta be grateful that good things were ever good to begin with, keeping with star wars as an example, maybe its hubris for me to ever have thought I deserve more than 6 mostly excellent films with 13 hours of total content in a well plotted story, I choose to be grateful nowadays. When it comes to media we gotta let things go.

Naughty dogs last official game was the last of us part 2 that won game of the year. @KingDonWahed Because Big Jimmy Jim as you called him, is the reason for the multiplayer fell apart. This is widely known. Jim wanted to turn factions into a live service game. Naughty Dog has no experience making those kinds of games. So, to say that Playstation doesn't intervene with their studios is a false statement. In regards to pricing, the Uncharted upgrade and TLOU2 upgrade are $10, just like Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding were. Its only been 3 and a half years since their last game came out. For comparison, there were 5 years between the horizon games and 4 and a half years between the new God of War games. Insomniac has a bunch of different internal teams so they can put out more games. I'm sure the team working on Factions 2 will not be working on Naughty Dog's next game. Making the development process faster.
I just want another Uncharted game. There’s many directions they could go in for example: U5, reboot, remake of U1, Sully prequel, Sir Francis Drake prequel, etc. Here’s hoping Bluepoint or someone else from a Sony 😮 makes the next installment since Naughty Dog said they’re done with the franchise. Uncharted is too big of an IP just to let die. It carried the PS3 and part of the PS4 generation. Regrading the future of Naughty Dog themselves, while I’m not a hater, I am disappointed with the cancellation of Factions II, and the remaster games this gen. They should reopen the U2 or U3 multiplayer again or something lmao.

Just wanted to write that you summed up the situation rather well for the chaotic mess that is Naughty Dog. Between the production hell of the last two titles, the damaging PR interviews with Druckmann and Gross admitting via Indiewire the mess the script was in and how they changed it constantly on the fly, it is clear the plot has been lost on the whole company with retention numbers through the roof and having to rely on contractors via the VFX industry to get it done (what happened during TLOU 2 production). Honestly, with so many key figures gone including the founder Evan Wells, it's safe to say they have gone the way of Bioware in becoming a husk of their former selves. It sucks but it's inevitable. PS: Neil Druckmann deserves the criticism and getting pimp slap for wasting the talented actor Jeffery Wright (fantastic recently in American Fiction) for two scenes...yes only two scenes.

Evan Wells wasn't the founder. He was made co President in 2005 and full President in 2017. He retired after 30 years in the industry, it's not like he left somewhere else (at least nothing like that has been announced).
Like Druckmann he was promoted to President from within. Not sure why people are against them promoting successful Devs from within like they always have
What game of the year? From the pc perspective last of us is a nice movie with 0 replayability, but uncharted is a complete piece of shit, I'm really glad I refunded it

After watching this entire video, I can't help but worry about the state of Naughty Dog. Yeah they blessed us with some many great games, but it all came at a cost. And now they're giving us remasters and remakes that we don't need(but low-key though, I'll gladly take a Jak & Daxter remake)and cancelled a game that we all been looking forward to. Like what's going to happen next for Naughty Dog?
Well unlike EA or Microsoft, thankfully, Sony doesn't have a habit of killing studios. Even the team behind Days Gone, which Sony has been treating with nothing but overt contempt despite raking in exponential profits, gets to stay alive but be shuffled off to do work for other studios.
So what you can expect to see if things get worse is an internal investigation and restructuring, which is *exactly* what they need. Right now, literally every single issue Naughty Dog has can be traced to one man, Neil Druckmann, and it may take the company getting close to being shut down before they are willing to put a stop to him.
I disagree with your last point brotha. I don't think Naughty Dog tryna pick up the pieces of what they once were. They are trying to successfully complete an identity shift from what they once were. Neil is not interested in bringing back what made Naughty Dog the great studio that bought them the fame and fortune.

It's sad seeing a lot of legacy devs just become a shell of their former self. Bioware, Bungie, Naughty Dog, Bethesda. It's happening to a lot of once GOATS in the industry.
This was a super well put together video and explains a lot about how after the core members leave, there's no vision anymore and everything falls apart. A lot of the older games like The Last of Us or Halo 3 almost felt like magic in a bottle. Maybe devs just can't hold onto the magic forever...
Everything goes away with time, and every society, culture, and industry has eras, it goes up and down. Its why I'm not mad about the degradation of famous film IPs like Star Wars anymore, nothing can exist for like 100 years and maintain quality, but maybe with enough time everything returns to glory.
Either way, we gotta be grateful that good things were ever good to begin with, keeping with star wars as an example, maybe its hubris for me to ever have thought I deserve more than 6 mostly excellent films with 13 hours of total content in a well plotted story, I choose to be grateful nowadays. When it comes to media we gotta let things go.

Naughty dogs last official game was the last of us part 2 that won game of the year. Sony is greedy and wants them to push out remakes of part 1 & 2 again.They wanted to originally make Factions 2 like the last one from the leaks we’ve gotten of factions 2 early development & sony tells them no make it live service appealing. I don’t blame the guys that have to create magic from whatever they get thrown at them. It’s Sonys fault in my opinion. Just because some suckas didn’t like the last game or had issues with story choices (Daddy Joel) feel like they’re some what falling off is crazy. They’re as good as there last game & that last game broke records at the time for most awarded video game. It’s sad to see the multiplayer go to shit cause i’m sure those developers were crushed once greedy sony slammed the cancel hammer on them. This is all sony’s fault in my opinion

It's clear the multiplayer was supposed to be more like The Division from leaks years ago But then Jim Ryan wanted it to be live service. Bungie came in and said it wasn't a good live service game. Naughty Dog tried to transition it to a battle royale.

Naughty Dog has no experience making those kinds of games. So, to say that Playstation doesn't intervene with their studios is a false statement.
In regards to pricing, the Uncharted upgrade and TLOU2 upgrade are $10, just like Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding were. Its only been 3 and a half years since their last game came out. For comparison, there were 5 years between the horizon games and 4 and a half years between the new God of War games. Insomniac has a bunch of different internal teams so they can put out more games. I'm sure the team working on Factions 2 will not be working on Naughty Dog's next game. Making the development process faster.

I just want another Uncharted game. There’s many directions they could go in for example:
U5, reboot, remake of U1, Sully prequel, Sir Francis Drake prequel, etc. Here’s hoping Bluepoint or someone else from a Sony 😮 makes the next installment since Naughty Dog said they’re done with the franchise. Uncharted is too big of an IP just to let die. It carried the PS3 and part of the PS4 generation.
Regrading the future of Naughty Dog themselves, while I’m not a hater, I am disappointed with the cancellation of Factions II, and the remaster games this gen. They should reopen the U2 or U3 multiplayer again or something lmao.
Naughty Dog's downfall began with that divisive TLOU 2's story. TLOU 2 ruined what could've been a legendary franchise.

Couple fact checks:
70% of Naughty Dog did not leave. They lost 14 of 20 non senior designers after Uncharted 4.
70% would be closer to 350 people
Nothing wrong with remasters, they have always remastered their games to the next gen
There is a lot of mystery around Naughty Dog right now but they have clarified saying they arent showing games 4 years before release anymore because it creates that crunch culture
As for Factions 2. Cant argue its.a big misstep. But if they are being genuine that the scope of it would demand all their resources then arguably we have dodged a bullet in them turning into a Bungie or Rare
Lastly its been 3 years since they swept the GOTY awards. I am not sure why we are acting like this is some GTA6 style wait for their next game. Not even the usual halfway point of AAA development.
Id like some transparency on their next project but nothing to datr has me overly concerned they wont release anothrt masterpiece when they finish cooking as always
