  • Welcome FLocers (fellow locers and aspiring locers). In this video I talk about the differences of having a grid with your microlocs as opposed to not having a grid.
    Team Grid
    1) if you like the perfect lines/crisp look
    2) when you part your hair or style, your parts will be straight
    3) can cause more of a “plucked chicken” look in the beginning and after reties
    Team No grid
    1) quicker and easier to do yourself
    2) have a fuller look from day one and after reties
    3) when styling, your parts won’t be straight

    I'm team no grid. My hair is low density, almost one month old and I called mine free styling, letting it fall where it may. For me, the grid takes away from the natural look of the hairdo, if that makes sense. Great video.

      Yeah that makes complete sense! I like the “fall where it may” look

    Team half and half over here. Lol. I did part rows front to back, but no grid inside each row. I love the look. Lol. I just complicated a very simple process. I'm cute tho!!

    Lol at “plucked chicken look”.
    I’m team no grid because I was impatient and I have never been a perfectionist. I love the concept of my hair being a reflection of who I am.
    One drawback of being team “No grid”, however is that the hair grows imperfectly and I’m constantly having to redirect hair where it needs to go.

      You’re 100% correct about the hair having a mind of its own and having to redirect it like a two year old toddler 😂

    Great video! I'm team #NoGrid I'm 2yrs into my microlocs journey and my "install" was done by a loctician with two-strand twists w/ diamond parting ... specifically because I just wanted my locs to flow like my hair did when I was a loose natural

    When I decided to do my locs I had a head full of faux locs. So when I was taking my hair down I decided to use the parting pattern that was already on my head. I had about I think 100 faux locs installed. 80-100 so I had 80-100 squares around my head in rows. I decided to install four microlocs per square, some have 5 depending on how big the square was. I didn't part the individual locs i was installing tho, I saw scalp so that was good enough for me, lol. Hope this doesn't interfere with the process later on

    • @DavidJaysWay
      @DavidJaysWay  Рік тому +1

      I really don’t think it will interfere at all. As long as you aren’t bothered that you may not have perfect parting and lines for each of those boxes, then that’s all that matters. You will still a head full of amazingly luscious locs!! ✨🙌🏾

    Great topic! I really enjoyed watching. To be truthful I would normally be Team Grid because I have always leaned heavily towards being a perfectionist. Every hair in its place and that kind of thing. But now I have no grid as I just grabbed hair when installed my locs. Funny, I'm mostly ok with it so I guess I'm changing lol!🌺

    • @DavidJaysWay
      @DavidJaysWay  2 роки тому +2

      I’ve never been a perfectionist at all, but I can definitely see how having a perfect grid and parts would be very important for someone who is!

    • @LadyDee150
      @LadyDee150 2 роки тому +4

      @@DavidJaysWay I actually started out with a clean straight middle part from front to back and also a side part, but over time as hair grew in all over the place I was so new interlocking that I didn't have time to worry about preserving neat parts. I was just happy to get loose hair all combined into the closest braid without creating knots or holes. So now everything is zigzag style for the most part, and I'm fine with it.

    • @DavidJaysWay
      @DavidJaysWay  2 роки тому +1

      Oh I see! Yeah it seems like it would be a lot of extra work maintaining the straight parts over time. Extra time added to each retie session.

    I started my micro locs by pulling small pieces of hair making my loc. I do not have a grid or square parts. Am I going to mess up my hair doing this method? I also didn’t interlock my hair as well. I did braiding by the root and followed by a two strand twist

    • @DavidJaysWay
      @DavidJaysWay  2 роки тому +3

      I don’t think you’re going to mess your hair up at all. Just keep an eye on it as it matures over time. If you notice a lot of shedding or thinning then you may need to switch something up, but it doesn’t sound like you’re doing anything damaging to your locs!

  • @anydae

    I have no grid! Today is 8th months of having microlocs
    My hair is not plentiful and a bit scalpy so a grid would of emphasised that

    I started my DIY microloc journey with no grid and after doing my first retie or should I say attempting to do my first retie, I realized that having a grid would be better because it would help me to keep from unintentionally joining two locs together.

    • @DavidJaysWay
      @DavidJaysWay  Рік тому +1

      That’s definitely a possibility. I have almost permanently combined two locs twice when not paying attention during my retie. But I also don’t clip my locs away so it’s mostly just from my being a lazy, laidback retier 😅
