    Ive tried every method in starting my locs, and this method is the only one that works for me. To tighten my roots, i use the crotchet method. Wash my hair with clarifying shampoo and use conditioner since i use oil often due to my dry hair. Best decision ive made about my hair❤

    I started with braided locs. You might have to combine a few of them but you’ll be fine. Braids are great for maintaining a good foundation. Other styles can unravel at the root easily

    Glad I found your You Tube channel. I had to cut all my Locs off due to hair loss during 2020. I had 20 years worth of growth. So it has been 1.8 years now and my hair has grown back, but thin in the top, so I wanted to find a technique that would avoid harsh grid lines to start the process again. So your technique (non grid) is better because it will allow my thinning hair to look fuller. I intend on added some kinky hair (bulk kinky hair extensions) and loc that hair into my micro braided locs. So it will be a long process.

    How long your braid pattern is visible or there depends on your hair type honestly because mines is already turning to locs it just takes patience and that’s what the braids help you with because it takes longer to undo your hair so it helps keep your journey going😁🤟🏾👍🏾

    • @DavidJaysWay
      @DavidJaysWay  2 роки тому +3

      You’re so right. It does teach you a whole new sense of patience 😅

    Blessings! Braid Your three strand braid locs looser and the braid pattern will disappear as shed hair can fill in the scaffolding! Tight braids allow for length retention and sustainability of the pattern. Lilian O has a meticulous method of starting locs with less tension locs.

    Your video has made me excited for my braidloc journey. I’m exactly 1 week in! I want to wait another week before I do the first wash. I don’t want to use a lot of products because I’m afraid of build up and flakiness. I do tend to have an itchy scalp and in the past {before braidlocs), I would wash my hair 3 or 4 times a week. I’m so glad you said you can wash your hair anytime you feel like and that’s why I chose braidlocs, as opposed to any other method for starter locs. I’d like to know when to start the retwisting of the roots and what do you use to twist?

    • @DavidJaysWay
      @DavidJaysWay  2 роки тому +2

      Congrats on being a week in on your Braidloc journey! That is exciting. I interlock my roots every 5-6 weeks and I just use my diy hair oil and water. Back when I had traditional locs and would retwist, I only used oil and water too, which doesn’t hold as long as if you were to use a gel or something like that. But I didn’t want to increase the amount of flakes I have or have a lot of unnecessary buildup so I chose not to use any styling gels.

      @@DavidJaysWay Thanx for replying so soon! What kind of oil do you use? Coconut? Jamaican Black castor oil, peppermint? I'm looking at Coconut oil and water or aloe and/or peppermint to ease any itchy scalp. I just want something natural and less chemical.

    Thks for the info I appreciate it very much I put mini braids and ❤ it on 3/10; my problem is “grid” I want precision so I’m starting over 4/1; I can’t take the frizz, budding etc., with twist as I call “ugly” stage 🤦🏾‍♀️. I’m not concerned about volume bcuz I have natural body without using any tools to create it 🤷🏾‍♀️. Also; you stated exactly my thoughts I love conditioners, oils, wash when I want etc., since being natural 7yrs 😉 I know what my hair needs. When I put 2/strand twist in 3 days later frizzy, roots puffy constantly retwist bcuz I’m a neat freak 🤷🏾‍♀️ will not use rubber bands so that’s why I’m going braid route, I’m ready for lifestyle chg ☺️ no more 5hr wash days 🤸🏾‍♂️🤸🏾‍♂️

The lifestyle change is so real. The amount of time you have to do other things besides your hair makes it all worth it. Instead of managing your hair you get to really enjoy your hair and have positive associations with ways days! 🙌🏾✨

You have to do what you’ll be comfortable with but if you’ve already started your next journey, you might just have to push through the phase that you don’t feel like your hair looks the way you want it to and know that soon enough it will be the beautiful mane you’re hoping for!

      You’re never late! It definitely can Loc like this but with 3b hair you may experience some unraveling that I didn’t. I would just suggest being careful in the beginning when you wash as they are maturing. Go ahead and braid and band until you notice that you’re not having any slippage.

    how often should i retwist my braid locs? i'm technically three weeks in?

    • @DavidJaysWay
      @DavidJaysWay  2 роки тому +1

      I think it all depends on how quickly your hair grows and how active your lifestyle is. When I’ve retwisted my traditional locs in the past, I would try to go at least 4 weeks in between so I wasn’t putting too much unneeded stress on my roots.

    • @n3wj3rs3y
      @n3wj3rs3y 2 роки тому

      Every 2-3 months. You have to have enough new growth to get them retwisted without stressing your roots.

    • @DavidJaysWay
      @DavidJaysWay  2 роки тому +2

      I agree that this is a goal to get to, but I think it depends on how your hair grows and how your roots do in between retwist sessions. When I had traditional locs I would typically go 6-8 weeks without retwisting. In the beginning of my journey, my roots married A LOT and I had to separate them quite often. As my locs matured and my hair was “trained”, I could go much longer in between getting retwists with no issues.

    I did my back three rows as braids since my hair was shorter (the parting size is big) the pattern has faded but they aren’t really matching the parting size. Would it be better for me to comb out the back row and start them as twists? Like will the braids eventually thicken up?

    • @DavidJaysWay
      @DavidJaysWay  2 роки тому +3

      If the braids were done somewhat loosely, then they should swell and thicken up as they mature. But if you braided them tightly then they may remain that size for years or indefinitely.
