Garrett ATX: 20" Deepseeker Monoloop Coil.

  • In this short demonstration video, we check the response of the Garrett ATX with the optional 20" x 15" Deepseeker Monoloop Coil on larger, deeper targets. For this purpose we bury a 300gm lead 'nugget' (we didn't have an actual 10-ouncer to hand!!) in mineralized Australian soil. This is purely for illustrative purposes and is not meant to be a "will detect target X at depth Y" demo -- there are too many variables in the field for tests of this nature to be definitive. The big mono will, of course detect targets of 300gm/10oz at much greater depths, dependent on field conditions and control settings, and operator technique. In addition to the target response segment, we also demonstrate the use of the Garrett sling and do a 'real time' coil change.
    We hope you enjoy this short demonstration and find it informative. More ATX goldfields videos to follow soon! Happy Prospecting! Warren and Colleen. www.nqexplorers.com www.garrettaustralia.com.au www.garrett.com

    Another really helpful Garrett ATX video Warren. The Deepseeker coil works great. Thanks for demonstrating the way the coil is changed and sling sets up too-good information for anyone looking to buy this new unit. Overall it looks like a great machine. Hoping the Oz retail price will be more affordable in the sales in January! Cheers mate and HH

    Another great vid there Warren. The ATX is certainly a great value machine capable of punching up there with the best. Well presented and look forward to seeing how it unfolds in our Ozzy conditions. In the value for money stakes it's by far the best of the PI's currently on the market. Cheers Wal.

    Warren,
    Thanks for the video mate. With the iron check function on the mono, does that mean that you cant discriminate out the hot rocks or can you do that with GB like the DD.

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  10 років тому

      Thanks for your comment Guy, with regards to 'hot rocks', you can still easily GB them out with the monos - the 'Iron Check' function is not available. 'Hot rocks' with a very high iron content will give an iron check 'grunt' when using the DD coil. HH mate! Warren.

      Thanks for your great comment Chris - the beauty of the ATX is its versatility, it is a top-shelf gold prospecting unit which is equally at home in the salt water. Very rugged design and that big 20" mono coil goes really deep, even in hot ground. Happy Fossicking mate! Warren.

    Hi Warren I love my ATX package and wanted to ask when or if you know when Garrett will launch another great deep pulse detector with additional high end features ? I’m waiting for some time now and it would be great to get a hint on any future product as I would definitely be buying another.

As soon as I have any news on that, I will be posting on Facebook or UA-cam. Cheers mate. Warren.

    Warren an interesting demo - are they going to do the 20 inch in DD because that would be a fantastic set up for the beaches and you could iron check targets without digging a metre down for the proverbial horseshoe?

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  10 років тому

      Thanks for watching Willo - Garrett isn't developing a 20" DD at this stage, just the 3 coils, but apparently third party coils are also under development and a large DD would be a nice addition as you suggest - will advise as further information comes to hand. In the interim I have dug some deep holes with that mono 'for the proverbial horseshoe' LOL. HH mate! Warren.

    Nice vid Warren, how much noisier is the large mono while prospecting in varying conditions? I assume its noisier than the DD, does it require a lot of re balancing while on the move?

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  10 років тому

      Thanks for watching and comment AUFINDA - I have been able to run that big mono into some pretty hot ground, but like any mono when the ground gets tougher, yes, you will need to be rebalancing more often than with a DD - I tend to use one of the tracking speeds along with re-groundbalancing to get a stable threshold in those circumstances. A stand-out feature of the ATX is its stable threshold - hot ground, EMI, high ambient temps - have virtually no effect on the stability of the threshold - so you can concentrate on the 'whispers'. All the best mate and HH! Warren.

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  10 років тому

      Thanks for watching and commenting Mike. I find you get around 2 days good detecting (assume 6 hours/day - around 12 hours) out of a charge of the NiMH packs. You would probably get longer if you used disposable alkaline. My normal habit is to always put a set of 8 batteries on the charger every night so that you always have backups. The ATX comes with a 'smart' trickle charger which really gives a good charge to the AAs. Good luck in the Pilbara mate! Happy Fossicking. Warren.

    Aloha Warren,
    Can you tell me if you can pick up small gold rings at the beach with that 20" mono? Thinking about an atx because my seahunter picks up all of the hot rocks around here. It would be nice to cover some real ground with that huge coil, but worried about passing over the small rings with the diamonds. Mahalo!

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  10 років тому

      Thanks for watching and commenting Puna Surf - I haven't actually tested the big mono on small gold rings - but it is a very sensitive coil given its size - and it definitely goes deep, and runs very quiet in wet sand. The stock DD is a beauty at the beach and very sensitive to small gold - if you are using the 8" mono on your Sea Hunter, the DD on the ATX will do as well and run very smoothly. Happy Hunting mate! Warren.

    How many feet in depth can be detected by this for both small target and big target ??

  • @SunsTo7
    @SunsTo7 5 років тому

    Before purchasing the ATX .I have implant in the right foot. Is there some kind of shielding which I can use to prevent interference?

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for your comment, unfortunately any Pulse Induction detector such as ATX will be very sensitive to any metal on your feet/legs, even such as eyelets on your boots. There is no way you could shield the machine, best way is to adapt your detecting technique to the situation, you will probably find you will get a signal if you step too close to the coil with your right foot. Cheers. Warren.

    Hello Warren. I have the Garrett ATX and I have a question, if you could answer it I would be a very happy camper. Now to the question. I have been out & about, just tinkering really with the ATX with DD coil & have noticed only a very small, just audible high low tone on a target in the ground. I iron checked it and nothing heard so kept digging. I'm down now to just over a foot deep and the high low tone is getting louder the further I go. Problem I have is the ground is so bloody hard with big rocks that glisten and produce no sounds at all but am getting the small yellow rocks with like rusty centres as well. The high low tone is still there but very loud now. Is this something I should keep digging or ignore? Cheers, Doreen

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  5 років тому

      Thanks for the message Doreen, that does sound like a target. But you need to make sure you ground balance adjacent to ensure you are not digging ground noise, or even the differential that the hole itself produces. If it is much louder with depth, I would suggest using a pinpointer to isolate the target and minimise the digging. Let's hope it's a big chunk of yellow LOL. Just message me if you have any more questions. Cheers. Warren.

    • @Dozza70
      @Dozza70 5 років тому

      @@NQExplorers Hello Warren. I did indeed ground balance beside. There are no other noises except the hum that I set to barely audible and still it's louder over the target only. It's still in the hole and nothing around it. As I said the signal at first was so faint, then got louder the deeper I dug it. I used iron check and not a sound heard at all. Very hard digging but can't tell if it's in a rather large glittering rock or maybe under it, also there where no indication of the LEDs from the very first faint signal but when digging deeper they lit up. Now they are up to highest LEDs. Is that normal, and am I getting close. I really enjoy watching your posts since I brought my atx. Would be great if you could do some definative sounds that these atx's make. I love using it and it's all it's features but am yet to strike it lucky. Thanks so much for replying.
      Doreen

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  8 років тому +1

      +Fabian Wylie G'day Fabian, thanks for watching our video. The large mono will go very deep on a beach, although you will sacrifice targets of small conductivity (such as fine gold chain), plus you will get a little more 'chatter' in the wave zone which will require you to stay on top of the ground balance. If you are looking for larger, deeper targets, this coil will suit what you need. Cheers mate and Happy Fossicking! Warren.

    Allo Warren, great video (as always). I'm actually looking at getting one of these detectors and after seeing what you have had to say, i think i am sold. So, thank you. One question i was going to ask you, which is still slightly detector related....do you ever get any ticks on your adventures? Do you use any repellants etc? I know a few guys who have been bitten by ticks whilst detecting in the bush here in Oz and have become very crook as a result (lyme disease). Was just wondering if you get any ticks burrowing into you while you're out and amongst it?!?! Thanks mate, Tom

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  10 років тому +2

      Thanks for taking the time to watch our videos and comment Tom. The ATX is a brilliant machine and has some great features not available on other high-end pulse detectors. Yes we do get ticks occasionally, but usually the little grass ticks, which are harmless enough, you have to watch for the paralysis ticks of course. Snakes - certainly, we see them, but usually we are making enough noise with the detector not to surprise them and they just amble on their way. One of the reasons we don't use headphones is that we need to be aware of our surroundings, which also include wild pigs and the occasional 'aggro' brahman bull! All the best mate, and Happy Fossicking! Warren.

    How close do two ATX machines have to be before they cause mutual interference?

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  9 років тому

      Thanks for viewing the video James - realistically 20-25 metres or more is required to separate two ATXs, the greater the distance the better though as you will pick up each others pulse. It will depend on the coil you are swinging and the orientation of the two detectors to one another. You can't get as close as 2 VLF machines could operate. Happy Hunting mate! Warren.

    These tests aren't accurate, when you dig a whole and bury something to test, you are disturbing the soil density. The item is not as tightly packed in the soil as if it was naturally. Readings will be different from a loosely packed item from a densely packed item in soil. It may detect a recent loosely packed item at 16 inches, but what about a item that has been packed in more dense soil over the years at 16 inches? May get a totally different reading.

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  8 років тому +2

      +Wicked Wrenches Thanks for your comment WW - of course a freshly buried target will not react like one that has been there for potentially hundreds of thousands of years (such as a nugget). Soil moisture content also fluctuates and will effect the return pulse signal strength. Undisturbed and densely packed soil may actually attenuate the pulse further, than disturbed soil - there are a great number of variables and this video was intended as a guide only. Cheers mate and Happy Fossicking! Warren.
