What's insane about this duo is that ONLY Al Pacino can hit the ball back into DeNiro's court with just as much, if not more moxy. The cinematic level of badassedness here is like the unstoppable object colliding with that which is immovable.
That's an excellent way of putting this scene.
That's how this script was able to work. Rooting for both the antagonist and protagonist (even hoping they both win) is prolly only possible at that time with these two great actors for this type film.
It's brilliant.
There is exactly such a phrase to describe this - the immovable object and the irresistible force.
Yes they are very good at pretending. Wow. So inspiring.
You can tell there is so much respect on both sides here.
No…actually you can’t. Thats what you think
They never filmed in front of each other. That's why you only see the back of their heads
Yeah . Exactly how the director wanted it
@@gjukic That's an apocryphal anecdote. In any case, Jack was referring I think to the characters, not the actors.
Between the characters? Nah. If they respected each other, one of them would quit. They're trying to FIND respect for each other. Both of them are slowly realizing that one of them is inevitably gonna end up killing the other, so they might as well get to know the man they're gonna kill. Both of them are trying various approaches to convince the other guy to give up. The talk about dreams, for example, is them explaining to each other why they're not gonna quit, not gonna change their ways. Neither of them particularly want to kill another person... but they will if they have to, and if the other guy doesn't quit they're gonna have to.
Any respect you're seeing is their genuine, but conditional, respect for human life in general. They both start the conversation hoping the other guy can be reasoned with, and end it with the resigned realization that he can't. In that sense, it's sort of like the "if we keep going like this, one of us is going to kill the other and I'd regret it if I didn't at least try to reason with you" conversation in Alan Moore's "The Killing Joke" of 1988.
Heat was Michael Mann’s greatest work; it’s beyond ridiculous that it didn’t pick one single Oscar nomination…
This Oscar thing is a very dirty business. The movie is outstanding...guess one of the best ever imo.
Naaah. collateral is a tighter, sharper experience. Heat's run time kills some of the pacing.
When a bunch of limp wrist beta males run hollywood, they get scared and emasculated with alpha men
For that sir I give you an Amen on steroids 😌
the insider
What an epic conversation between these 2 legends. And to think this movie was totally snubbed by the
Oscars is just a complete injustice.
Oscars is a lie
not an Oscar type of movie. I know that's stupid but it is what it is.
De Niro and Pacino are legends.
will smith is the legend ☺️
@@kanwar23 will smith slaps at every movie he’s in
More like GOATs
Alpha and Omega.
Actors aren't legends. Jesus and Robin Hood and King Arthur are legends.
Two such fine actors. When they meet on the road, I love the way DeNiro ad-libs a little look to the left and Pachino immediately mirrors it. Terrific performances all round in this movie.
This scene is like a monologue by the greatest actor ever in front of a mirror with an equally brilliant yet uniquely different reflection.
Such a classic scene from heat, great film, great cast.
Best film i ever seen in my life
Awful bleeps
Awesome film
Peeped up by censorship. What a waste.
An absolute classic and has the best and most realistic shootout in movie history
A great shootout, but Al Pacino was beyond useless, despite killing Sizemore at the end. He brought up a 20 round rifle and only shot like 30 rounds while the gangsters shot over 300 each, on full auto. He wasnt more accurate firing off single shots than the gangsters were on full-auto.
Plus they had the element of surprise and managed to fck it up
Michael Mann's Magnum Opus, and one of the best dialogue scenes in the history of cinematography
I prefer the insider tbh and collateral
@@sugs1191 I do too, especially The Insider. Heat has a few great scenes...like Pacino's character introduction (which I've probably watched over 100 times), this scene, before this scene, the surveillance scene, and the shoot-out but it was also almost 3 hours...loved it the first time but the second time...I still like it for Pacino but I think it should've been shorter.
@@buffythehaterslayer6918 I think it's a massively overrated movie. It's way too long and boring. Performances were excellent tho. Not a great movie . I mean Pacino and De Niro shared 2 scenes together. A huge waste
@@sugs1191You don't have taste.
Arguably one of the most intense few minutes in a movie ever.
Surely
the crazy thing is this movie is based on a true story
Why oh why does every UA-cam commentator feel the need to say everything is "the best ever". So you know all of cinematic history? Of course it isn't one of the most intense scenes ever - there are literally hundreds more.
@@jimnewcombe7584 You should lower your expectations of people to avoid being crushed by endless disappointment.
hard thing to do man@@footpad9047
the constant beeping ruins it
One of the best classic scene of two icons stars. Which won’t see again, it’s been 28 years since “ Heat” came out.
"I had coffee with McCauley half an hour ago"!!!!
😅😅😅 I remember that....
This was the BIG HYPE between these two actors!!! The conversation between these legendary actors! Pacino and DeNiro!! ❤❤
this is probably the most iconic scene between two heavy hitters in cinematic history!!!
These videos is the thing we need
We will never have legends like these 2 ever again
Simply one of the most brilliant and legendary scenes from two legendary actors in movie history.
Haven't seen more respect, humanity and badassness of adversaries in nearly no other film..legends
Great conversation. Thought provoking, insightful.
Less so than most pub conversations though, in my experience.
@@jimnewcombe7584 well that’s good
Bring me to the pubs you frequent. The pubs I go to, people talk about whether wolverines can kill polar bears. @@jimnewcombe7584
One of the best scenes ever, legends !!! The best
Legendary scene 🔥
When the both stated they Didn't know or want to do anything else pacino adds that although they have met face to face he will do what's Necessary and Deniro says the same. They New there paths would cross and one would inevitably Die but the a Respect was there.
I can watch this movie over and over again, i freaking love it.
You can watch people getting shot to death, but you can't hear "bad words."
Because you can get demonitized for that (no kidding).
@@norwegiangangsta People yap about fascism VS. communism, we're in a cauldron of both.
legend actors
a hardliner vice detective sitting across the table with the best heist specialist, you can see clearly the respect they have for each other and the emptiness of their personal lives. Michael Mann's directing greatness at its best
BOTH should have received Oscar nods for their vintage performances in this epic masterpiece
I think this is one of the best scenes in this movie. But for some reason I really like this one!!
Pure performance magic.
two brilliant Italian-American actors
Best scene ever!
0:09 I love how in a few seconds there are thousands of subtle glances, the confusion, trying to figure out what's going on, and Pacino suspiciously checking Deniro's car quickly, when he dodges his gaze. it's like a poker game
One of the best scenes ever 🎥
Says yet another ignorant UA-cam commentator who attempts to bolster an ignorant opinion by appending the words "ever" or referring to the whole of history. I assume when you refer to "ever" you're well acquainted with all the films of Bergman, Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Lean, Kieslowski, Fritz Lang, etc. Otherwise your statement means less than nothing.
@Jim Newcombe hi Jim its only my opinion but I take your point. And fair comment mate 👍
Two legends
the beeping out of the dialog is very distracting it ruins the scene
2 favorite action movies Heat and Die Hard
Would’ve been nice if Al Pacino and Robert De Niro were in The Expendables
This is a classic scene from Pacino and DeNiro.
One of the best movies
such a great film
Excellent film excellent actors 👏👏👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌
One of the best scenes in movie history
You either die as acting legends, or live long enough to star in Dirty Grandpa and Jack n Jill
🤣 underrated comment!
Such a great scene from the fantastic movie!
absolute timeless unbridled brilliance === Pacino & DeNiro but but but DeNiro by a micron !!!

ALL THE BLEEPS JUST MADE THE SCENE THAT MUCH BETTER

Dear Binge Society:
Regarding the bleeping, you can shove it all the way up. If you can not create, at least leave untouched the work of those who can. Nobody needs your censoring/butchering.
Thanks for nothing,

Hey Binge Society, what's with the cut?? Show the scene or don't.
Reminds me of the other week when I paid for a bad omelette. My question was, "Why didn't you learn to *make* omelettes before you tried to start *selling* omelettes?"
ok ok, I watch this movie again…
al pacino and robert deniro at their best
I Love coffee!
Great scene.......really loved when Al Pacino went BIP! BIP! BIP! BIP! Then De Niro went BIP! BIP! BIP! FUCKING BIP!
maybe you shouldn't censor it with tones that are 30db above the dialog track.
The venue, Kate Michelinis, closed over twenty years ago
Honestly, besides the downtown shootout, this would be the second best part of the movie.
Best bank heist movie of all time
This clip would be epic if it weren't censored to shit.
What are you ? A Monk ?😂😂😂😂
Did they film these scenes separately? They don’t actually appear on camera together
Congratulations on cutting this brilliant scene short and missing the best part.

The last great 80s movie that was made in the 90s😁
There's not many movies can keep up with this, the whole gta heists are based on it too eh
Bro wtf you talking about. 80s movies were all dopey and cheesy with nothing but montages. Yeah some gems, but 90s movies saw the rebirth of neonoir, lots of style, grounded and serious. Heat is a 90s movie through and through
@Rytoast99 plus u haven't done the research. Iv seen ALL the movies
@@BipoIarbear Absolute b*llshit. All of which movies? People who have done research have at least learned to spell.
@Jim Newcombe yes and rude ignorant Americans point it out when they can , I do apologise for the mini stroke that made me this way , maybe karma will give u one u rude self righteous wank spanner
@@Rytoast99 Actually Heat is a remake of an 80s movie called LA Takedown, which was directed by the same person Michael Mann
Deniro is the best actor of all time imo. I used to say Brando was ahead of him etc, and yes DDL is the best character actor ever. But overall Deniros acting run from the 70s-90s will never be touched. He's a natural and the best we'll ever see
There are thousands of actors of whom you know nothing, nor can ever know, because for hundreds of years it wasn't being filmed. Why can't you make a statement without using the words "ever" like everybody else who leaves vapid comments and tries to consolidate them with words which have the illusion of weight.
Brando’s monologue in Apocalypse Now is better than anything De Niro or DDL has done. And to be honest Gary Oldman is a better character actor than DDL because Oldman actually has more than 6 characters
maybe you are right but it's a bit ironic that you made this comment on a scene that Pacino completely stole.
Best joke ever. Pacino acts circles around that HACK.
@@geotro WORD!
Great scene, too bad it’s spoiled by the fucking beeps mid sentence. Show it how they intended
The only scene I can compare it to for drama might be the one between Deckard and the replicant on the roof top in the pouring rain at the end of Blade Runner.
