only 1 comment? nah i gotta fix this
Everyone amazed of these glitches, shortcuts and secret techniques, I'm just astonished that the grapple beam can grab items
yeah i didnt even know that..damn.
Ikr, and that super bomb health regen trick, mind-blowing.
Ulises Schmidt you mean crystal flash?
LittleMissEevee yeah, I thought that was common stuff
Ikr, idk if this run showed it or not but my mind is still blown that you can fire out a little cluster burst of morph ball bombs lol.
So Samus can noclip by building up speed via arm pumping? She can literally flex her way into parallel universes?!
Chris Goh But first, let’s talk about parallel universes.
Weird flex but ok
But first let’s talk about parallel universes
this made me crack lol HAAHAHAHAH good one
She would go to other m's universe
Out of all the years i've known this game, this is the first time i've learned of Crystal Flash's existence. Love all the detail this game has, where i'm still learning stuff
I remember calling the Nintendo tip line to find out what it was when I saw it in the main menu idle demos. First and only time I ever called the tip line when I was a kid, lol. It also featured prominently as a plot device in the Super Metroid comic which ran in Nintendo Power. (Oh god, now I feel old. GET OFF MY LAWN!)
Really? It's in the demo at the start screen.
@@Bakamoichigei How much did that call cost? lol
What's super cool is that they didn't find out about moon fall until like a year or two ago
@@ShadeTavish That's more of a glitch than a secret move.
Zeni didn't save the frames but he surely killed the animals
why they want to kill "the animals" ??
During the escape at the end of the game there is a room where a bunch of animals are trapped. During a casual playthrough of the game, you would run into these animals and they teach you how to wall jump and shinespark. If you go to the room the animals are trapped in during the escape you can destroy part of the wall to free them. During the final cutscene a pixel of their ship escaping will appear if you saved them. Saving the animals results in a slower time than letting them die which is where the phrase, "Save the frames, kill the animals" comes from.
Hopes this answers your question :)
They wanted to kill the animals to save time
Someone should make a "Impossible Fusion" mod where you literally cannot beat the game because you kill the animals in Super Metroid.
It’s 2 games added together, super Metroid and fusion, so if you save the animals in super Metroid you complete the game in fusion, but you get the newly added bad ending if you kill the animals
"We don't need the suits!" _dies_
It's more fun when it's more dangerous
Super metroid almost 30y old, and i'm still impressed with the infinite ways to play, every time I watch a new video i learn new things, and impressed with the passion of the community, for shure will be my first favorite game forever.
Without context, kill the animals must sound super dark whilst people are cheering
Super Metroid should always to be at the Finale. What an epic run!
It is definitely going to be, Save vs Kill the Animalls is always the biggest crowdfund of the entire event.
Completely true!!
1:07:27 Zeni wipes a tear from his eye? What a beautiful, awe inspiring run. Never seen a reverse boss order run live before. This was truly crazy. Props to insane skills performing those insane strats. Had my mouth wide open in disbelief several times watching this run as a casual fan with lots of love for this game. ❤️ Metroid ❤️ GDQ ❤️
Rated *E* , For Energy tank.
Rated M for missile
Man, Zeni did a great Job in doing a movement routine according to the background music while Phantoon was going down at 50:08. but no one recognized or appreciated it... such a shame ;)
25:30 the moment the whole audience clenched
Love me some Oatsngoats commentary.
May not have saved the animals but definately saved a lot of people with cancer research
As someone who is passionate about speedrunning, and has lost a number of family members to cancer, I have truly loved the GDQ events for years. I've fallen out of the speedrun community a little bit over the past year or so due to changes in my life but I'm hoping I will be able to get back into it soon and would one day love to be good enough to attend an event like this. Kudos to Zeni and to all the talented runners that showcased games at this year's AGDQ!
I like to imagine Ridley’s just making coffee or something and Samus shows up way ahead of schedule and he’s just so confused
Holy god, Kill Vs Save at about 100k each, that's utterly insane.
Arkouda Chien it’s a long loved incentive :)
That's nothing. AGDQ 2017, the kill/save war raised just short of $800k.
@@stormrider8576 Fuck I forgot about that... then 2018 stopped doing Super Metroid last
@@Alucard5595 2020 brought SM at the end back, though with SM Impossible instead of normal SM
@@Bighomie39what’s SM Impossible?
Man this "The operation was completed successfully" at the end of the marathon made me shake.
I can't wait for SGDQ!
This is the run I looked forward too every single time.
great run Zeni!
I'm just happy someone taunted the animals for once.
Jokes on you guys though. It's canon that Samus saves the animals. Lol.
If you have ever played this game, you know every single strat and moment is so crucial and requires perfection. Zeni is a legend!!!!!!
50:16 Is my favorite part, I love how he syncs up with the music lol :)
Samus is an orchestra conductor in her spare time.
ShinyZeni isn't so great? Are you kidding me? When was the last time you saw a player with such an ability and movement with Samus? Zeni puts the game in another level, and we will be blessed if we ever see a player with his skill and passion for the game again. Zoast breaks records. Oatsngoats breaks records. ShinyZeni breaks the rules. You can keep your statistics. I prefer the magic.
why don't you marry him then
:owl :gun :ZeniRage
Nice GPW reference!
@@helldragonfire555 TIM shinyzRage
nice pasta
"Do you smell something burning?" Lmao. GD this run and oatsngoats impossible run are absolute top notch
Right!
Oats' run of Impossible and Andy's Crowd Control truly made that an even to remember.
God damn this event is special :') I love it so much!!! Can't believe they managed another donation PB too, fantastic job to everyone involved!!
Excelente! Muito bonito a atitude e união de todos pra um evento benéfico que também mostra as habilidades das pessoas nesses jogos.
Esse cara do Metroid é fera demais!
of all the games to me super Metroid speed run is the most mind blowing of all.
What a great run. Super Metroid should always close the show. Run/Kill is the ultimate donation booster.
It really warms my heart to see gamers all around the world united for AGDQ Ive been watching since 2013 and hopefully I can speed run Super Metroid
I'm have waiting for this
I think I know what makes Super Metroid runs so fun. I have never played Super Metroid. Well at least not very much of it. But these are my favorite runs and I think its the couch that makes these so entertaining to watch. Well teh coach, the crowd, the host, and the donors make these runs so fun. Normally if a run is longer than 30 minutes I ignore it but not with this game. Oatsngoats is probably my favorite and I hope to see him run next GDQ
In the game, in the demo playthrough when you are idle, there is a clip of Samus using X-Factor, and one using Crystal flash. Because of it, I learned how to do X-Factor, and that was cool. I didn't realize how powerful it was. But I never learned crystal flash! I did it once, but I didn't know what I did to do it. I never learned it because I didn't know I had to be
Love watching Metroid runs! This was new to me watching a reverse boss run. Thats crazy to think how people figured out a way. GG guys :D
I cant beat the game regular and these guys do it in less than an hour and backwards
The whole "who wants to ______" - _cheer_ "and who wants to _______" *CHEER!!* is a bit of a broken, biased system of voting, because one party gets to hear how loud, and thus how much louder to be, the other party is.
It's not so much about how many people want it, it just matters who wants it most. If a small group can overpower a larger group by virtue of their passion and voice, they are granted justice in the form of victory.
If you're the first party all you gotta do is not be lame and actually give your 100%
Still better than first-past-the-post.
This is why, as host, you then gotta go back and give both sides another round to really get something accurate.
I love how popular Super Metroid is at these events. Probably my favourite game of all time.
Love super metroid, was my first metroid game i played, never thought one could beat the bosses from the strongest to the easiest. Great job.
One more thing... Finally a GDQ I can actually drive to for 2020
Always amazed at how much money these things raise
So fun to watch! One of the best I've watch
At 19:39, we see Samus do her best Akuma impersonation.
2.395 MILLION?! Holy cow. Good job, guys.
First time seeing the beam power bomb combo be used, that's pretty neat
I've never been good a speed runs and I already shit a brick when I'm in the lava rooms. So I can't imagine doing all this.
50:30 I had to rewatch this section to see if the low framerate was somehow a glitch he was exploiting, but it looks more like an issue with the video encoding.
That was awesome. Missed it live, but glad I could see it. Wish the animals lived though.
so this is what the save/kill the animals was about.
You can also taunt the animals, which is what happened here.
It might be better to report the difference rather than the raw amounts for competing incentives. You know X is winning by $Y.
So how do you set up the controller for these? It seems like these runners are usually doing three things at once, like running while selecting items and shooting simultaneously.
Runners will typically do controller remaps to fit what they're most comfortable with. Then either they have their their index finger over X and Y while their thumb handles A and B (claw grip) or they position and use their thumb such that they can press/hold B, X, and either A or Y at the same time (fat finger grip).
So yeah, they don't just have fast fingers. I run the game causally and there are occasional times where you have 3 buttons pressed at once.
I watched this live with a buddy and I was tense the whole time watching this
Are they calling the Chozos "Chorizos"?! 🤣
Torizo. It's what the enemy is called. It does sound a lot like chorizo when you say it
Sounds like a latin american food.
Chozo Torizo would be a chorizo, then
Pretty sure they are called Chozo statues in the lore, no idea where the name Torizo comes from.
Chozos are serving chorizo tacos at a Mexican-Chozo restaurant.
Item Room Ambience used to be my ringtone for years. I just changed it last week. Watching this made me go grab my phone a couple of times ...
this is amazing
It really is. The commentary is terrific too.
Pretty sure this was my 3rd metroid speed run of the day love it
Going to say this: Kill hadn't won the Save/Kill bid war since SGDQ16. You guys asking them to save the animals have gotten what you wanted for over 2 years! Let us have a turn!
keep donating more money then save the animals then, it's an auction not a swingset.
@@geneirai It's actually canon that they survive. So kill them all you want. It's futile! Muahahaha!
Love the commentary on this one.
1:05:05 - anyone else seeing Samus get all discombobulated for a second?
Yes! I've been waiting for this video to go up since I saw the run live. Can't wait to watch the whole thing again
Zeni you inspired me to try reverse boss order, its a shame I didnt get to see the percentage of item collection GDQ :(
love the aussie guy's commentary as he tries to restrain his accent to be understandable.
Lol he probably wasn't restraining at all, Aussie's are perfectly understandable.
oh you really should watch his streams, he's hilarious
guy's twitch name's jrp2234
my butt cheeks never clenched so hard, and the taunt the confident taunt! i love this guy!
The guy in the middle on the couch, in the black clothes knows his shit!
This was amazing!! 💯
This is actually a fun run
That saving the animals tease though.
wait, reverse boss shouldnt start by mother brain???? jk really nice run!!!
And where was Spore Spawn?
@@jruler93 what's a "spore spawn"?
@@jruler93 hahahaha
Was hoping he'd kill mother brain first and then kill the other bosses in the 3 minutes he had left
Great run. SM runs are the best!
Well that’s the first run of this game I’ve seen where the runner ACTIVELY killed the animals...
lol only in GDQ we will hear "lets get those animals killed!" followed by cheerful screaming 😂😂
Reverse boss order is nuts. Zeni is an artist
sick run man agdq should more of this.
Man, what I wouldn't give to be able to go to one of these events. I've watched for quite a few years but I really enjoyed this year especially, and those final donations for kill...nice!
This game is so good!
Oats has a good sense of humor about himself.
1:08:19 Michael Jackson is that you?
LMFAOOOO "Do you smell something burning?" *[Remembers Michael Jacksons pepsi music video disaster]*
I think the developers intended for people to try this. Lots of health refills and energy tanks in the perfect areas. At least for Ridley. Going through Maridia without glitches seems impossible.
So this is where Screw comes in handy.
Great run, Zeni
I love Metroid
Awesome run! Next time I would like to see a good old fashioned 4 runners going toe to toe in a race!
I wonder if the developers have watched any of these runs and what they think of it. It would be really interesting to know how many of these shortcuts that aren't obvious glitches were intentioned (like the entering the Wrecked Ship from the back door)
This is awesome
Que increíble speedrun excelente la verdad, muy flipante, me lo ví completo y no me arrepiento
nice speed run!
Damn homie 00:49 thats insane
RBO is the most impressive speed run in gaming.
46:27 to be fair you have to have a very high iq to save the animals
1losercualquiera how to bot account pablo?
Forgotten Highway? I thought we wer running Super Metroid, not Hollow Knight!
I came here to shout ORB and ended up weeping ;_; much love sharing, many MANY orbs gotten
Hopefully my brother will be there with metroid samus returns
Outstanding!
Zeni your amazing
I thought reverse boss order was fighting all the bosses that way, not just the main four.
Oh, that's called RAMBO, zoasty made a run once
this runs is sick. omg
aw, i really like the BRRRRRR noise in zero mission
i could never do this. respect.
Awesome !
"Save the frames, kill the animals!"
"Kill the animals, save the frames!"
This run: "Why not both?"
you said the same thing twice.
Kinda hard to not do both of those at once
Over the many, *many* times I rented this game, I never managed to wall jump _once._ One rental saw me getting stuck in the room with those animals, even. That was a fine waste of money...
Runners can do it, what? six times per second? Incredible.
EdwardHowton it's a super small window to wall jump from compared to most other games. I think I got stuck there like 45 minutes trying to do it consistently, like sometimes you just lose all momentum and can't keep wall jumping (probably bad inputs). What amazes me is that they can wall jump *on the same wall*. I don't think something like that is intended if it is straight (or maybe that was another Metroid game?)
The trick is to pull away from the wall a split second before pressing jump. Samus actually goes into a different frame of animation for a split second, and that indicates that you can wall jump.
It has a rythm to it that takes a while to learn. Never was able to do it back in the day either. It wasnt untill early 2000's when I replayed the game, i finally learned how to do it.
I did it like in 30 minutes actually. Can't talk for the rest of people but, hey, practice. That is all there is
I was stuck in that room for an hour, going crazy with the animal noises before I figured it out.
