I think what I've really learned from this is that it's illegal to make a Metroid game that doesn't end with samus's ship flying away from a huge explosion
It’s been a hallmark of the series since the beginning. The only games that don’t do this are Metroid 2 and its remake Samus Returns. In a sense, Prime 2 might count because only the realm of Dark Aethur implodes on itself, Samus leaves the planet of Aethur rejuvenated and saved. Hm, Metroid has a weird pattern of not exploding a planet in any game that has “2” in the title. It’s not a lot but it’s weird that it’s happened three times.
I’ve seen a lot of Metroid timeline videos… and while they are all fairly good, this one fully explained everything and actually made me understand it. Amazing video. Metroid will always be my favorite Nintendo franchise.
@@jraff2735 did you mean Samus? Because Samus is too badass to do something like crawl. What does she do when she needs to fit into a tight space? Curl up into a motherfucking ball and roll bitches.
One personal theory I have about the X-Parasites is that they're a bioweapon. See, they're way, _way_ too fast, lethal and complex to be natural, and make literally _zero_ sense in the ecosystem. If the X-Parasites were some horrifying mistake of evolution (which I think is unlikely), they would've taken over the entirety of SR-388 long before the Chozo ever arrived; on ZDR, the X spread across the entire accessible map (and the entire _planet,_ if Raven Beak masquerading as ADAM can be believed) in a matter of minutes. Who or what created and unleashed it is unknown. In my mind, they're likely dead - maybe killed by their own creation, or maybe leaving the X-Parasites behind as a final spiteful act - but... the possibility that they aren't is a worry.
So... the X parasite creators made a bioweapon that went on to become a menace, which were eventually stumbled upon by the Chozo, who decided the best way to get rid of them was a bioweapon that went on to become a menace.... guess we're lucky the federation decided to rely on Samus instead of creating a bioweapon to deal with the Metroids, eh?
@@tinyetoile5503 and ironically, Samus is technically a bioweapon as well. The difference being that she was raised with discipline and love, so now she has a firm resolve to do the right thing.
I still don't think Raven Beak was talking to you the whole time. Maybe getting closer to the end of the game, yeah. But not right when she starts making her descent. I think that's what *they* want you to think, but I'm pretty sure it's ambiguous for that reason alone, to make ya think on it.
Honestly that's a great theory! Hell you can't even walk a few meters in the Metroid universe without stumbling across some ancient destructive supertech weapon. Although in my mind I always had the idea that the X-Parasites were some kind of early off shot of a planets' evolutionary tree. Kinda like the way that viruses don't fit into our evolutionary tree of life but still retain the ability to interact with out cellular protein structure. In our own DNA there's traces of all kinda of viral R/DNA I think that given enough time the organisms infected by X-Parasites evolved into their own species; then such that they became different enough to propagate new creatures that became immune or resisted the original Xs enough to flourish on the planet. As for how could the X-parasites survive that long? Well we already have living fossils species irl, this observation can be applied to the fictional setting. I hope to see the Xs in another future game. You know for a fact that blowing up a planet is never enough to kill a bio-weapon.
That's one of the main reasons why the plot of Dread is ridiculous (among a bunch of others). There's no way an X mimicking a freaking CHOZO WARRIOR hadn't made sure of obliterating the whole planet in an extremely short time. And the game tells us that they were contained in a freaking dome? How was that possible? Who built it? The only explanation the game tries to give is Quiet Robe saying: "Raven Beak somehow managed to do it".
Well we can confirm that she did die in Zero Mission, it's not too much of a stretch to say that the Space Pirates brought her back to life, essentially making her the same being that we fought in Super Metroid.
I have to agree. I always thought that Mother Brain in Super Metroid was cobbled together from scraps and other remains that the space pirates had found because they had no desire to lose such a leader that could even surpass Ridley
You know, it's honestly amazing how much more palatable Other M is in the grand scheme of things when you remove the butchery of everyone's previously-established character and focus on what new things it brought to the Metroid timeline. Sure, Fusion executed its game gimmick better, but this bit about the faction of Federation Members trying to create Metroids feels like it's genuinely well-thought-out in terms of its place in the lore and how they worked it into the larger story as a whole. Unfortunately, "THE BABY" speaks louder.
@@internettraveler8666 I am aware. Fusion was my first Metroid game. I'm saying that the premise for the splinter faction of the Federation from Fusion had a solid premise for expansion in Other M. Unfortunately, when it came time for the actual execution of the game and its story, we got a worse version of Fusion while also contradicting previously established characterization, so it all fell apart.
Honestly Other M would have been fine if it was written to be way earlier in the timeline. If this was Samus' first encounter with Ridley since becoming a bounty hunter, her freezing would fit fine. If this was one of her first missions with Adam, her more emotional and less independent personality would fit a little better. It still wouldn't be perfect, but it would be far less of a regression.
@Sharona Maynard the developers of Metroid gave Samus the title of bounty hunter without fully understanding what it meant to be a bounty hunter. They just thought it sounded cool.
I, among a few others, believe that Exelion Star Corporation (the company that manufactured the EMMIs) is a business front for the Ringleaders or as I like to call them The Rogue Federation. The EMMIs had armor that was impervious to Samus' weapons and most of them held onto one of her abilities. They also had a probe that could instantly puncture her armor and take her DNA. It's no coincidence that they were this strong and formidable against her. After Samus was infected by the X and had sections of her suit removed, they took those parts to the BSL station and were able to research her technology and abilities. They sent the data to Rogue Federation scientists who were then able to reverse engineer her weapons to create robots that couldn't be killed by them. After the events of Fusion, the Rogue Federation was still determined to get their hands on Metroid DNA, but Samus was the only being that possessed it and she wasn't going to give it up because she knows the dangerous potential behind it. In order to get Metroid DNA, they had to set a trap for her. In the opening of Dread, notice the footage of the X parasite; it's out in the wild. As we progress through the game, we know that Raven Beak had all the X parasites quarantined in Elun until Samus was there, and then when they were out in the wild they infected the entire planet. From this, I conclude that the original footage was fake and made by the Rogue Federation to eventually lure Samus there. First send the EMMIs and pretend to lose contact, and then count on Samus to go there because of her good nature in protecting the galaxy. The Rogue Federation knew that there used to be a Chozo civilization there, but they thought they were all dead. They weren't counting on Raven Beak being there to mess with their plans. If you look at the Chozo archives, you have one image where RB beat the snot out of one of the EMMIs and was probably thinking "What is this thing?" He takes it to Quiet Robe for examination, which is where we see the other image of QR and RB looking at the EMMI's programming. They were commissioned by the Galactic Federation, built by Exelion Star Corporation, designed to gather Metroid DNA, and programmed to hunt down Samus Aran; they're durable material would ensure that she couldn't kill them by her typical means. This is how Raven Beak learns that Samus has Metroid DNA in her, so he hatches a plan. He orders QR to create the Central Control Units to take control of the EMMIs to hunt down Samus for his own purposes, and QR reluctantly obeys. Remember in Dread when you kill a Central Control Unit, the associated EMMI unit immediately goes ballistic to find Samus. I think the original plan that the Rogue Federation had for the EMMIs was to gang up on her and overwhelm her, but Raven Beak made them separate because he wanted Samus' Metroid DNA to continually take over her system over the course of the game. In summary, I think the Rogue Federation is still trying to get Metroid DNA, and the next series of 2D Metroid games will have her directly getting involved in removing the corruption from Galactic Federation leadership, even to the point where a civil war begins.
That's a theory that makes the most sense out of the poor plot of Metroid Dread. Samus confronting the corruption of the Federation should've been immediately tackled after Fusion (seeing what happened in that game and also in Other M). Bringing the X back wasn't the brightest writing decision (made even worse by the way it was handled in Dread).
This makes a lot of sense to me bc RB didn't know exactly that she had the Metroid DNA, to me he found out when she had that transformation episode right before he was about to destroy her. That's when he planned the rest. I don't believe he had some way of connection to the GF or was spying on them and your theory makes all these points a lot more clearer imo.
Damn, she's currently an amalgamation of 5 sources of DNA, her two human parents, two chozos of different clans and a metroid. No wonder she's more capable than anything else in the universe... o_O I just realized, it also makes her a represent of the Triforce. She's got the courage of Humans, the Wisdom of Chozos and the Strength of Metroids. >_>
So, there is kinda a single game I noticed that is absent from this timeline, which while it doesn't follow Samus as our main character, is still semi-important. That being Metroid Prime: Federation Force and especially its ending with Sylux to lead into Prime 4 and the interviews that happened during that time that confirmed it was Sylux chasing after her at the end of Prime 3.
Dude I've been on such a Metroid kick lately I'm so pumped to see this video. Edit: having watched the whole thing, this is 100% the most comprehensive, detailed, and entertaining Metroid timeline on UA-cam. Your delivery has something special that makes the other timeline videos look dry and boring. I listen to Metroid essays while I Speedrun the games, and having an almost 2.5 hour long masterpiece like this is awesome. Just wanna say thank you for your hard work bringing us something so valuable.
A few problems in the lore but great work. 1 major issue is Samus still has the Metroid weakness to sub-zero Temps after fusion. The Varia suit mod granted protection from cold environments but not weapons like the ice beam. When she lost said upgrade in Dread she couldn't go into cold environments without dying.
I figured it was because her Metroid DNA "reactivated", making her ice immunity renulled. So while the SA-X DNA restored Samus to mostly her 9ld DNA, the raven beak encounter reactivated the Metroid part, making her weak to ice once again.
@@Rogeryoo yeah same, another head cannon i have is that the reason the varia suit doesnr shield from ice like in dread is because her metroid dna was taking over and being stronger so she needed stronger protection from the ice
My theory on why Quiet Robe reactivated the EMMI was so that Samus could obtain all her power ups before coming into contact with Raven Beak. The Quite Robe x parasite chants "I am counting on you," while reactivating the last EMMI units. I believe that it was Quite Robes plan all along to be infected with the X parasite so that he could move unnoticed by Raven Beak. It also explains why he was non hostile to Samus, payed respects, and allowed himself to be absorbed by her.
@@AnyBodyWannaPeanut thoha have a strength over x parasites I believe. quiet robe being so wise probably made it so that he himself had a special control over his x parasite.
I always assumed that QR-X was doing what it did as a way to get used to its new form or something; with the line it says and the controls it uses were some of the last things in Quiet Robe's mind before his death, I see it as QR-X "going through the motions" so to speak.
@@champagnesupernova1839 that could make sense for the initial infection of QR, but doesn't hold up in the end cause why would the X parasite pay respects to Samus and allow itself to be absorbed by her?
My theory is that Other M was a sort of nightmare fever dream Samus had between fusion and dread. We get a not quite accurate retelling of her youth in the federation, which explains the random appearance from Nightmare, and some trippy imagery like Ridley being a rabbit looking thing
It could also be her poorly retelling thr events of the bottle ship mission in her logs, not quite grasping prose, like, she's not a writer she's a bounty The events of other m have to have happened, with the Ridley clone explaining Neo Ridley, and Nightmare kind of explaining Nightmare ij fusion, although that didn't need an explanation lmao
I actually think M may have been a retelling of the events from an outside source probably someone on the force who perceived her as an arrogant upstart too young to be on the force while in reality that was not the case but ultimately ended the same result
Fantastic video. Covering the lore in a chronological order while impartially mentioning what people didnt like about OTHER M. Thank you, I've been meaning to look up what the story is that makes up this badass universe.
When it comes to the pirates having insides of the Federation, i theorize that the Federation has few members that wanted to turn over, and thus help the pirates. Good video so far im enjoying this
Being a life long Metroid fan, this is truly the first time I have actually enjoyed listening to the Other: M storyline lore and actually having any respect for it. The way you explain it is absolutely awesome, and actually makes sense towards the lore. I still will never like anything about the game, but the way the lore is explained is amazing.
Metroid, being the mother series of the metroidvania genre alongside Castlevania, is a sort of ancestor to HK. Also, fun fact, the statue upon which the Shade Cloak upgrade is located (in the abyss) is most likely a reference to Chozo statues
@@amo1704 I want to know this track too 😭 I might recreate it myself just to have it in autoplay (I'm a musician)...If you're interested, I can let you know if I complete this.
The most charitable interpretation of Other M’s story bits is that Samus was not gelling well with the Federation command structure and human culture in general, and she has undergone severe trauma with what happened with her parents and Zebes. The one-two punch of childhood trauma nearly destroying her psyche and coming back to a government that doubted her abilities left her adrift emotionally. Hence, the decreased maturity and the struggle to prove herself to the Federation. And when that fell apart, she eventually realized she didn’t need to prove anything: she was herself, and the Chozo were the Chozo, and the Federation was the Federation. This helped her process the trauma of her past, but it also left lingering scars on her psyche; scars that raised their ugly head multiple times, only to finally be confronted and laid permanently to rest.
Wait… In Metroid Prime 2. She is to restore “The Light” for a race of beings called the Luminoth… oh my god. She’s turning the lamp back on for a bunch of sentient moths. 😆 On a second note; I really enjoy this video. You went into much, much, greater detail. And even covered some bases with Other M that I hadn’t even known about. The intention behind Other M’s story line actually makes more sense now. And in a sense; they brought Samus’s trauma out of the manga. Which, I guess is alright. Because at least now, a big part of Samus’s character development is in the limelight. Good video dude!
that perfectly describes my everyday relationship with my pet moths (which I unironically named U-Mos, I-Sha, and A-Voq). I turn on their little lamp light and they flutter around with joy.
This might be the best Metroid video on UA-cam imo. I only just recently became interested in the lore and story. Your explanation of things was really in depth and kept me hooked, especially how you explored Samus's character and what she felt and went through personally. Really enjoyable listen.
You know.. I've loved Samus all of my life.. Since I was a child with Metroid II on Gameboy. But the details of your video literally brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.
Loving the musical arrangements. I love how you include Metroid Prime music as well. it was literally my fav game for the cube, the soundtrack is forever implanted in my brain.
Love the choice of music for the intro. Skytown's theme has to be one of the most underrated pieces of music in Metroid imo, its such a beautiful, calming, yet sorrowful song.
This has to be the best time line video I have ever watched. The amount of work and details that went into making this is amazing. Thank you for your work, time, and dedication to make this work of art.
this was an extremely high effort video, i almost felt bad for being able to watch it for free. thank you for filling in all the gaps thoroughly for me before Dread, as i’ve only beaten Prime 1 and dabbled in a few of the others.
Enjoyed every single second of this. Thank you for making such a great video to help everyone understand where the plot has gone and where it currently stands.
I would like to sincerely thank you for addressing the often forgotten obfuscating element of translation error in Metroid lore discussions. In Other M and Fusion, especially, the choices made during localization caused the collective (Non-JP) fanbase's understanding of the state of the Galactic Federation, along with its relationship with Samus, to shift towards a mistaken notion that she was a fugitive. You addressed and clarified this beautifully and even handled the more contentious story beats of Other M in a respectful, careful manner that allows it its place in canon without causing too much of a clash with the rest of the series. I personally think that its original JP script-- while absolutely still not ideal in terms of tone and theme for Samus at that point in her career-- was a lot more in line with her character in general. Adam's character dynamic and the reason she didn't mind being called "Lady" by him is also a lot more consistent with what she says in Fusion in the JP script too. I still would call it easily the weak link in terms of storytelling, and I can totally see how people think it butchers Samus's character; it certainly doesn't do itself any favors with how it framed scenes like the PTSD episode when she sees Ridley again. (Which the subtext for in Japanese is actually pretty different than how it read in the game we got in the west, but again, it's hard to get that difference when it is conveyed visually as a PTSD episode.) All in all, this is the best Metroid lore summary video on UA-cam as of the time of typing this. Bar none. I don't think you got a single thing outright wrong. I cannot wait to see whatever is coming next in Metroid Prime 4!
@@theonlybilgePretty sure that IS part of the lore from the earlier games, including in Japan, but later bahavior arguably contradicts this, so i'd consider THAT a retcon.
No matter how much you change the script, Other M is unsalvagable. The cutscenes cant be mistranslated, only the dialogue could. So you can literally visually see Samus act completely out of character from her usual portrayal. The plot is still bad and just a lazy rehash of Fusion with a sprinkle of Super Metroid. Half the plot points are literally copy-pasted. And while the same can be said for Super Metroid just being a rehash of Metroid 1, it at least didn't ruin any characterization or lore.
This is easily the longest, most entertaining and just all around best Metroid Timeline Video on UA-cam. You covered all the games (except Metroid Prime: Pinball & Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which I think cannot even fit into the timeline, perhaps?) and other media which continues the story. Thank you EruptionFang for doing this behemoth of a video, btw you deserve WAY MORE subs and this video definitely deserves way more views and likes!
@@tetrafuse3096 Pinball is literally just Prime 1 but Pinball it is a non factor. However i would argue that Prime Hunters should also be non Canon as fuck those controls To be honest it could use a remake as the game itself is forgotten to time as literally no one remembers Hunters and people try to block out Federation Force and for those that say Federation Force's control scheme is fucking awful they never played Hunters even on the Wii U with a bigger controller as such the gamepad it was bad Yes i played Hunters both on the Wii U and the actual DS in fact i still have my DS copy, i honestly don't know which hurt my hands less the actual DS or the Wii U gamepad as it did cause carpal tunnel with the way you had to hold it
I've been a fan since super metroid. And I gotta say, this was 1) very well told, concise, and easy to follow and 2) helped me grasp a much better understanding of Samus's objective / narrative. Thanks! 👍👌
I love that so much of this story is subtext. Outside of Other M, even the most dialogue heavy games tell so much of the story through unspoken action. And hearing it all compiled here, it’s amazing how much I knew just from the games themselves.
Great video, great breakdown of the entire lore, most people wouldn't have gone so in depth and therefore wouldn't have done as good of a job as you did. I love metroid and the lore and you did a super fan proud. Awesome job
im currently on my first metroid game, which is Prime, and the story so far (im at the Phazon Mines) has been suuuper intriguing and engaging. the game is so immersive, too, even for a gamecube game. it looks and feels incredible, im really interested in the series now that im playing through Prime and loving it

Thank you so much for putting this all together. It makes me so happy that you took your time and shared the details that made it like listening to one big story. Thanks 😊
This video gave me new respect for Other M's story. It's... really not too bad, the way you tell it. It's just not told well by the game. 1:24:50 - Very strange that there is no mention of saving the animals, which is considered by many fans to be the same animals at the end of Fusion.
Dude you Other M defenders are so weird. The Japanese also hate the Game. It’s terrible. It killed the franchise for over 10 years. Stop being brainless shills.
Just beat the entire series and I returned to this video after every single game. Just beat Dread this morning all thanks to this video. The manga's story intrigued me so much that I paused the video and started playing Zero Mission and returned here after each game and paused before the next game started to avoid spoilers. This has grown to be my favorite video game franchise of all time! What I loved about Zelda is in Metroid 10x over. Prime 2: Echoes is not only my favorite Metroid game but it made my favorite game of all time! All thanks to this video 😊
What an incredible series. I didn’t necessarily understand the timeline, the legacy of this series when originally playing Metroid Prime OG in early 00s’ and have now played every single Metroid game. Absolutely one of my favorite video game series! I cant wait to jump back in Metroid Prime Remastered, but Metroid Dread is probably my absolute favorite Metroid game. ❤
this is the Metroid story video I’ve been waiting for! There’s many Metroid story / timeline videos, but they often get confusing and I get lost easily. This video made the super interesting story even more interesting and easy to understand. makes me more hyped for Prime 4!
Also felt the need to say thank you for making this. Metroid is one of, if not my favorite franchise of all time. As a kid I played Zero Mission and Fusion first, then eventually the Prime series. I always felt so confused by the story and finally after 20 something years I get it all now and that just makes me happy as hell! Amazing video, very well done.
Awesome content. Played Metroid when I was a kid thru the OG Gameboy. Amazing memories. Never really understood the story until your content came across. Thank you
Thank you for explaining it to me as my childhood was mostly Mario, Zelda, and Wii themed games. Metroid Dread is the first game I ever and have ever played in the Metroid series and I was curious about the timeline as I’ve never had it explained to me. So great job!!
@@gamingthatservesyou part of it is that younger gamers don't attach to Metroid the same way that they attach to Mario and Zelda. They are harder games, plus darker tones story wise. It's a series that gets more popular as the install base gets older, a series that can be appreciated more in maturity. Also helps that having a long gap between Prime 3 and Dread meant that there was a built up hype/thirst for a new one.
Amazing video! I've only played Metroid Dread, and I was very curious about the series. I really appreciate all of the hard work that went into making this!
Holy shit man, that was such clean storytelling. Makes you wonder what they could do to improve the storytelling in the games as half of the info was new to me despite having completed all of them.
There are some major errors when you’re discussing prime 2. - It’s made clear in the trilogy game that the Federation troopers were not able to send out a distress signal. The Federation sent Samus there after one of their vessels disappeared. - The ing did not steal the components to control the light energy, rather they had some of the energy itself along with clones of all the energy controllers, then they later stole the mew transfer module and by it the majority of the remaining energy.
Hearing the entire metroid lore with violet evergarden music is an interesting experience to say the least Also thanks for your wonderful job on covering everything this franchise has to offer, especially regarding the manga !
Yooo glad you dropped a new video, you gave me my inspiration to tackle lore and story videos in a different way but still inspiration for these type of videos nonetheless thank you for your contribution to the space 🙏 and ofc when i drop the first one i do im gonna pay homage to the channels such as yours who gave me the inspiration to get involved in this part of the community in gaming
Though I have only played 1 Metroid Game in my life (Metriod Fusion) I've been obsessed with the franchise ever since discovering it through Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I've been longing for a video covering its lore for ages and those I've found never kept me engaged or had the quality to prolong listen to. Thank you so much for this as it's what I've been needing and ill be re listening alot as I finally play these games (Dread next BABY!) 👌
This was awesome... but have to note that she was in Federation Force as an NPC, and Sylux's presence and actions probably mean it's going to be important to Prime 4. Plus, you didn't mention that the X probably got off ZDR since the other ship in the Hangar background is missing when she's on the way back to hers.
So the X could be like the flood from halo now, sending themselves out in ships to crash on planets and infest it getting food and knowledge to find more
I just watches this entire video in one sitting and absolutely loved it 👏 Can't wait to see what happens in Metroid Prime 4 and the next 2d/3d Side-scroller Metroid 🔥

I don't really think Other M ruins anything in terms of Samus' and Adam's personalities. I believe Other M is just a lot more complex in terms of dealing with human emotion than the other games in the series that it feels a bit out of place. Adam's personality shift: Its clear that Samus and Adam had quite a close relationship and Samus leaving the Federation when she did, caused Adam a lot of pain. Not only cause she left him but because she left after having to let his brother die. Its perfectly reasonable to assume that, over time, this caused Adam to grow resentment toward Samus and upon seeing her again, apathy. The time he spends with Samus over the course of Other M is what rekindles their bond and ultimately leads to him sacrificing himself to allow her to survive. Samus' childish attitude: Despite having shown maturity for her age, being a soldier in the Galactic Federation is a huge shift in atmosphere for Samus. Add her young age and being a woman on top of that, this leads to her constantly being underestimated and treated as lesser than the men standing next to her. Even Anthony, someone she considers a friend, calls her "princess", which may be endearing to him but could also be seen as a transgression by her, despite liking him in general. She describes it well herself in the game iirc with her "thumbs down" gesture. She says it means two things; its a way for her to show her disapproval of how she is treated by her supposed equals and superiors while also confirming that she fully understands the orders she's been given. Samus' reaction to Ridley's return: While most fans complain about this as inconsistent in her character, as she's battled him lots before. While she had managed to get past her trauma related to him in the past, she's now lived for quite some time under the assumption that he's gone forever. Upon seeing him again, alive, it changes everything she thought she knew and those traumatic memories come rushing back to the forefront. This has now caused her more pain as now she can never truly believe he will stay dead forever. Leading to his return in Fusion to not be a surprise. It now no longer matters if Ridley is actually gone forever, as seeing him return from the dead once has caused irreparable damage. Samus letting Adam give her orders and control her arsenal: This is just respect. I think it could also be possible that Samus feels guilty about how she left him and she can see that how he treats her is a result of that. This makes her want to respect his command so she can hopefully regain his trust and friendship. I have always liked Other M and I thought its story was very interesting, engaging, complex and unique for a Metroid game. I really enjoyed the murder mystery narrative and just finding out what happened. I really hope Nintendo remasters this game at some point with some proper ass controls as the single Wii Remote way of play is in my opinion the worst part about this game.
New Metroid player here. I've only played Dread so far and I can say. The opening of the game doesn't do this franchise justice, it's good to catch new players up to speed but it glosses past so many cool facts and events. For one it doesn't even mention Ridley.
Bravo! Enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish. It was especially nice revisiting the Prime saga (and Hunters deserves more love than it gets lol).
I always thought that the Metroid prime was supposed to be a heavily mutated x parasite since when you defeat it looks almost identical to an x core from fusion and it is able to steal samus's DNA and seems to change from a wild animal to a methodical intelligent being after copying her
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for coming across your exceptional video. The content was so captivating and immersive that it transported me into the narrative, allowing me to visualize the events you described rather than merely reading them. The emotional impact was profound, moving me to tears and leaving a lasting impression. Your storytelling is truly unique and unparalleled. Although I inadvertently spoiled some of the games you mentioned, the experience was undoubtedly worthwhile. Thank you for sharing this remarkable narration.
After listening to 26:00 it becomes much more clear what they were trying to do with Other M. I think the game gets a really bad reputation without good reason. I can see some of the criticisms as valid but I think more people should watch this video so they can understand the reason for Samus's behavior. If Metroid Other M had taken place earlier in the timeline, her reaction to Ridley would make much more sense- still I understand now exactly what they were going for and I'm glad they attempted to humanize Samus and show she is more than just a mute bounty hunter. Her story is so much deeper than people realize
I know that Metroid Prime: Federation Force is supposed to LEAD into the upcoming Prime 4 which is probably why you didn’t include it. It’s still a bummer that you didn’t include it in the timeline.
Some minor details that were missed, they don't really affect the video/timeline all that much though: -Samus fights Phantoon again as she goes to retrieve Adam's helmet in Other M. Figured I should put this here since Phantoon was mentioned in passing while describing the events of Super Metroid. -Raven Beak-X is actually a hybrid of both him and Kraid, the latter of which Samus fights during her mission on ZDR. Whether or not he's the same Kraid as the one fought twice on Zebes is not confirmed though. -Federation Force wasn't mentioned at all, though in all fairness I can't blame you since that game does Samus dirty.
I think Kraid is more like a species rather than being a single character. The small Kraid you encounter in Super Metroid kind of alludes to this. I personally like some of the lore that comes from Federation Force. The Golem Mechs are the Federation's attempts to have soldiers as capable as Samus, and they haven't found an efficient way to make them as compact and mobile as she is, hence the large mechs. This also kinda ties to the plasma beam that Anthony Higgs uses in Other M; it's big, requires a backpack, and needs time to recharge. Both of these things show just how powerful and advanced Samus' suit and abilities are; the Federation is trying to copy her abilities but are decades behind in technology.
@@johnleonard9102 Not to mention he didn't even mention Sylux, who was in Hunters as one of the Bounty Hunters, Prime 3 as it was his ship that followed Samus at the end, and, again, Federation Force since he snatched and hatched a Metroid egg the Federation found.

Im 30 minutes in and this is already better than pretty much all of Marvels writing. Isnt that fakked up? A spinoff comic to a game made in the 80s has a more gripping, concrete and overall believable story than several billions of dollars worth of 21th century writing from what is supposedly the best source we have these days. I also love how Skynet ripped off Mother Brain. xD
How come you didn't talk about Federation Force? That's a official part of the Metroid timeline, and likely sets up story beats for the still-developing Prime 4.
@@Chad_Thundercock that's going to be awkward when people realize Sylux played a big role in it, and seems to be the one following Samus at the end of Prime 4. Potentiallly even the antagonist of 4.

Small correction, Mother Brain didn't survive the events of Metroid 1, the one in Super Metroid was a recreation built by the space pirates.
I feel like they may have created a clone that was continually being updated with mother brains personality and memories
Well we can confirm that she did die in Zero Mission, it's not too much of a stretch to say that the Space Pirates brought her back to life, essentially making her the same being that we fought in Super Metroid.
They brought her corpse back from the brink with mechanical tech rather than biological, thus she survived
I have to agree. I always thought that Mother Brain in Super Metroid was cobbled together from scraps and other remains that the space pirates had found because they had no desire to lose such a leader that could even surpass Ridley
She did still have her consciousness in a way she did survive just like Ridley up to Metroid fusion
Fusion had a bit about the federation making metroids first
@@internettraveler8666 I am aware.
Seeing who Samus "really was" was kind of disappointing but the story happening around her wasn't too bad.
Part of that disconnect may come from the localization.
ua-cam.com/video/KTuMfsWwd0E/v-deo.html
Honestly Other M would have been fine if it was written to be way earlier in the timeline. If this was Samus' first encounter with Ridley since becoming a bounty hunter, her freezing would fit fine. If this was one of her first missions with Adam, her more emotional and less independent personality would fit a little better. It still wouldn't be perfect, but it would be far less of a regression.
The funny thing about her story is when Samus was first introduced as a bounty hunter the Japanese didn't know what a bounty hunter was.
What do you mean they didn't know what it was?
@Sharona Maynard the developers of Metroid gave Samus the title of bounty hunter without fully understanding what it meant to be a bounty hunter. They just thought it sounded cool.

@@jeanpitre5789 that's a better word for it
I, among a few others, believe that Exelion Star Corporation (the company that manufactured the EMMIs) is a business front for the Ringleaders or as I like to call them The Rogue Federation.
Wow this is well written. I think this is a very interesting way to explain the plot of this game
@@SexyBulletBill lol in a strange stroke of irony, I'm actually working on a fanfic that approaches this directly.
Nice theory.

So would it be possible that the X Parasites could change to be a force for good? hmmmmm.....

It could also be her poorly retelling thr events of the bottle ship mission in her logs, not quite grasping prose, like, she's not a writer she's a bounty
The events of other m have to have happened, with the Ridley clone explaining Neo Ridley, and Nightmare kind of explaining Nightmare ij fusion, although that didn't need an explanation lmao
I actually think M may have been a retelling of the events from an outside source probably someone on the force who perceived her as an arrogant upstart too young to be on the force while in reality that was not the case but ultimately ended the same result
I mean if other M is to be taken seriously. Other M takes place before Fusion and Dread

She is to restore “The Light” for a race of beings called the Luminoth…
oh my god. She’s turning the lamp back on for a bunch of sentient moths. 😆
On a second note; I really enjoy this video. You went into much, much, greater detail. And even covered some bases with Other M that I hadn’t even known about. (Which the subtext for in Japanese is actually pretty different than how it read in the game we got in the west, but again, it's hard to get that difference when it is conveyed visually as a PTSD episode.)
All in all, this is the best Metroid lore summary video on UA-cam as of the time of typing this. Bar none. I don't think you got a single thing outright wrong. I cannot wait to see whatever is coming next in Metroid Prime 4!
Does the Japanese script say that the space pirates are unintelligent and need mother brain to co-ordinate them?
@@theonlybilgePretty sure that IS part of the lore from the earlier games, including in Japan, but later bahavior arguably contradicts this, so i'd consider THAT a retcon.
@@2yoyoyo1Unplugged

Could you expand on what you mean talking about how the PTSD scene comes across differently in JP?
No matter how much you change the script, Other M is unsalvagable. The cutscenes cant be mistranslated, only the dialogue could. So you can literally visually see Samus act completely out of character from her usual portrayal. The plot is still bad and just a lazy rehash of Fusion with a sprinkle of Super Metroid. Half the plot points are literally copy-pasted. And while the same can be said for Super Metroid just being a rehash of Metroid 1, it at least didn't ruin any characterization or lore.

- The ing did not steal the components to control the light energy, rather they had some of the energy itself along with clones of all the energy controllers, then they later stole the mew transfer module and by it the majority of the remaining energy.
Me: Man, the story of Samus couldn't be more depressing than this!
Eruption fang: *puts Hollow Knight's OST over it*
Me: crap.
As a big metroid fan, I can describe how much of an enjoyable watch this and learning about the timeline. Absolutely loved it all
Hearing the entire metroid lore with violet evergarden music is an interesting experience to say the least
Also thanks for your wonderful job on covering everything this franchise has to offer, especially regarding the manga !
1/3 of the way through so far but I am thoroughly enjoying this video so far. Nice work
Instead of trying to make a live action Metroid movie I feel like they should make a Metroid anime it would be way easier and doable
This video is the best Metroid timeline I've seen, thank you!!
Oh no.
So the X could be like the flood from halo now, sending themselves out in ships to crash on planets and infest it getting food and knowledge to find more
i fuckin love metroid so much, i cant wait for whatever takes place after dread. Samus is so overpowered now its insane.
Literally was just seeing if there was a full Metroid timeline done in great detail to listen to while at work
I've also been on a Metroid kick and was looking for a good lore video. This was incredibly well done and informative. Great job.
Great video 👌 Metroid is one of my favorite games of all time.
Excellent video! I love the Metroid series and I learned a lot from watching its entire timeline delivered this way. Thank you for making this!
1:21:10. Pretty sure those are canonically supposed to be Galactic Federation researchers from the station, not space pirates.
I just watches this entire video in one sitting and absolutely loved it 👏
Can't wait to see what happens in Metroid Prime 4 and the next 2d/3d Side-scroller Metroid 🔥
1:21:08 One minor nitpick. Those are human scientists, not space pirates.
I think that is what he meant to say. It happens to everyone
30 minutes in and it's already an amazing story... You just got yourself a new subscriber... I've been a fan of Metroid since NES but have not played the most recent games [yet]... I never knew this back story.. Where's the popcorn?
Makes you want to hope Metroid Prime 4 to be a reality. Well done on making the stroy line flawlessly put together. Metroid is very complexe on its story telling
“There are many moments for compassion and tender action. There are many moments for ruthless action.
What is often called ruthless in many circumstances may be only clarity…Seeing clearly what needs to be done and doing it directly, quickly, awake…looking at it.
I am beyond their timid, lying morality. And so, I am beyond caring.”
-Colonel Kurtz, Apocalypse Now
Probably the best, most accurate version of the Metroid Timeline I have seen. Great work!
I love the delivery at 1:36:48 lmao
"It's because she left his command, and it upset him. :("
Thanks for these video. Wonderful recap. Must have taken you a while.
First Gamer Thumb TV, now Eruption Fang join the Metroid Space Train
That was a pretty cool video. Thanks for putting it together.
I've known this franchise for a decade but I've never been that deep into the lore.
19:50 aaa you're a man of culture as well. The violet evergarden OST is amazing
What song is that?
New Metroid player here. I've only played Dread so far and I can say. The opening of the game doesn't do this franchise justice, it's good to catch new players up to speed but it glosses past so many cool facts and events. For one it doesn't even mention Ridley.
Better story then 99% of what comes out of Hollywood
I just started playing my very first Metroid. Metroid Dread. I’m about 7 hours in. Really fun so that’s why I’m here
Bravo! Enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish. It was especially nice revisiting the Prime saga (and Hunters deserves more love than it gets lol).
20:39 Voilet evergarden ost - The voice in my heart
Samus is one of our favorite videogame characters... and our main in Smash Ultimate
Since I main Cloud, it begs the question of what their relationship with each other is
This is just amazing. Great work and thank you for making this!
I always thought that the Metroid prime was supposed to be a heavily mutated x parasite since when you defeat it looks almost identical to an x core from fusion and it is able to steal samus's DNA and seems to change from a wild animal to a methodical intelligent being after copying her
Bro this is the best ever video I've seen about the timeline, you are the best!
Does anybody knows the song that plays from 1:01:24? I noticed that this channel often uses it in his videos and I really love it
Evergarden never coming back
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for coming across your exceptional video.
So much research involved in making this great video. Well done.
I know that Metroid Prime: Federation Force is supposed to LEAD into the upcoming Prime 4 which is probably why you didn’t include it. It’s still a bummer that you didn’t include it in the timeline.
Dude, no one can do a research, tell a story and make it enjoyable as you! May you have 100 million subs!
Some minor details that were missed, they don't really affect the video/timeline all that much though:
-Samus fights Phantoon again as she goes to retrieve Adam's helmet in Other M.
@@neojay7522 Maybe that was skipped over as it is essentially just more of the same setup at the end of MP3, and not really worth mentioning until MP4 is released
I was just about to mention this but looked for comments pointing it out first, glad to see I wasn't the only one thinking about it
Because we don't talk about Federation Force.
First rule of Federation Force is that we do not talk about Federation Force.
@@Chad_Thundercock that's going to be awkward when people realize Sylux played a big role in it, and seems to be the one following Samus at the end of Prime 4. Potentiallly even the antagonist of 4.
@@midnightbloomofeorzea7182 at the end of Prime 3*
I usually dont comment, and I know Im late. But this has been the most entertaining metroid "explanation" video I have ever seen. Almost l like watching a full movie. Thank you for that!
