So is Dread end of metroid timeline?
@@DirtL Technically yes, probably no. Dread is canonically Metroid 5 and will be the latest game in the timeline. Whether or not it will completely end the Metroid timeline is yet to be seen. The order of the games is as follows (games with " / " are the same game, just remakes):
Metroid/Metroid: Zero Mission
- Metroid Prime/Metroid Prime Pinball
- Metroid Prime Hunters
- Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
- Metroid Prime: Federation Force
- Metroid Prime 4 (Not Yet Released)
Metroid II Return of Samus/Metroid Samus Returns
Super Metroid
- Metroid: Other M

Metroid Dread
The collective Prime series games are effectively Metroid 1.5, as they all take place between Metroid 1 and Metroid 2. Other M likewise is Metroid 3.5, as it takes place between 3 and 4.

@@ChuuniKaede Metroid games are known for being fun to break, which is what gives them a lot of speedrun tricks.
So it could be meant sincerely, as in "Good job, you made a very stable game", or it could be sarcastic, as in "Good job, you took away what people love about metroid".

@@hatjousuke no, it was intended because fusion is about vulnerability
Actually other Metroids are specifically designed in a way that makes it easy to "break" them by skipping certain bosses or upgrades. That isn't a mistake, it's purposeful game design.
The reason the Fusion devs made sure it was almost impossible to sequence break is because the strict linearity of the game is important for the plot, and sequence-breaking would screw the game up.

Unfortunately, Samus' scream upon seeing Ridley for the hundredth time in the series and freaking out like a small child is what I remember most about that abomination.

it's a great time to be a metroid fan
to clear up a little bit of the lore:
the metroids were indeed predators to the X parasites, but metroids are not natural beings. the metroids were created by the chozo for the _purpose_ of hunting the X parasites, which, as is seen in this game, have the potential threat of wiping out civilizations due to their infectious and parasitic nature.
the metroids we are familiar with, from the beginning of the series up to now, are cloned/hatched from a batch of metroids the space pirates stole long ago and engineered into bioweapons, hence their destructive nature outside of just the X parasite.

If you pay attention in Metroid II as well, you can also see that the Metroids themselves were not much better.
Towards the surface of SR388, the caverns are teeming with life. But as you approach closer and closer to the core, and then the Metroid Hive, the enemies become fewer, smaller, and significantly weaker. It shows the amount of environmental devastation an uncontrolled Metroid hive can cause, making them almost as dangerous a threat as the X are.

sector 6 [NOC] is actually dark........ but only if you're playing it on the original GBA. the effect worked way better because the screen wasn't backlit.

there's a mod that allows you to get jumped by multiple of them at a time

Pretty sure Super Metroid is a big reason speed running began in the first place. Probably why they keep it as a big thing for the end of most AGDQs.
Ah this game brings me back. Im replaying the entire metroid series right now from the classic NES metroid to playing the fan made supermetroid remake. Love this series and I wish it would get more games added to the series. So good.

If not for Super, this would be the best Metroid game hands down.
I'm personally partial to Zero Mission. Though it was my 1st Metroid game, so I may be a bit biased.
I'm partial to prime 1/2 myself, followed by zero mission, then fusion.
I like Zero Mission and AM2R more, but Fusion is a fantastic entry.

I'd even go so far as to say that this game and Super are on the same level. I really don't think I could choose one over the other, they're both so good.

My first time ever playing Metroid fusion, I only got 5 or 7 energy tanks I don't remember which. it wasn't until I started looking up information about the game but I realized just how many I had missed after realizing my percentage when I beat the game was so blasted low.
