One really hard bar from the East is "You owe your students here an apology". See, "The Apology" is the name of Socrates' last work before he was forced to commit suicide by drinking hemlock. His "Apology" was a huge F-you to the citizens of Athens, who were the ones forcing him to suicide. So the bar is saying "you need to go kill yourself". All that said, I want to give this narrowly to the West, for Nietzsche's energy and Voltaire's nice cracks against the East.

Just a small correction - Socrates believed true philosophy couldn't be written - the Apology is a work of Plato, Socrates' arguably most important student

Sun Tzu was the "leader" of the Eastern rappers, like Socrates was of the Western ones...so they made it equal that those two were the ones that just started tearing into their teammates.

This isn't some of ERB's best writing, but it's probably the most realistic depiction of how the people would act towards each other. These guys did all heavily dislike each other's writing IRL, esp Nietzsche

This was very well written, but I don’t believe they were going for the normal rap battle since they wanted to have their “What is winning?” Joke at the end which is the perfect way to end the battle of philosophers.
ERB has gotten insane with their writing in more recent battles though

The bowl thing is pretty simple - bowls are most useful when empty is a metaphor about opportunities (which sun tzu just noted they had.)
An opportunity is most useful before you take it. It's important to ensure that you make maximum use of the opportunity because once taken, it's gone. If you're lazy and sloppy and don't make the most of it, too late, it's gone.

You recognized Sun Tzu because he was played by Timothy DeLa Ghetto and yes, he does a lot of skits as well as some rap songs. He was also a common fixture on Fine Bros. Reaction compilations. MC Jin played Confuscious. Lao Tzu was played by KRNFX (Korean FX), a very talented beat-boxer.
To give some context to Voltaire's verses, the man published over 20,000 various documents during his lifetime. He was also something of a manwhore and is currently believed to have been bisexual, so it wasn't just women gracing his bed. The B. Franks reference was Benjamin Franklin, who was a friend of Voltaire's when the former was overseas. Voltaire fell from grace when he and another person decided to rig a lottery, stealing large amounts of money, and they got caught.

Well, a bowl that is filled is less useful, because it's already in use. The more that's already inside, the less you can put into it anymore.
    It's already serving its purpose.

@The Bog 'Ole But a desk has other uses as well. Very common uses, such as writing and working on it. A bowl's purpose is to hold things.
Maybe its usefullness could be defined by its contents. Does it need to hold what's inside it, or could it be contained somewhere else, making way for more things to be held?

Bar for bar, not the best ERB has written.
BUT when you consider.... The different CADENCE for each rapper, rapping in the PHILOSOPHY STYLE of each one of these great thinkers, switches of beats, creativity to reflect the PERSONALITY of each philosopher in relationship to each other AND the creativity of breaking a "battle" down in to the "mindset of conflict" for everyone involved?
This is one of THE BEST (If not the absolute best) ERB battles released to date.

"A bowl is most useful when it is empty". He was telling Sun Tzu not to mess with what they had going, since he said 'this is our opportunity', as leaving the westerners to bicker would leave them open to react as needed, as an empty bowl can be used for many things so long as it is not currently in use with one.

6:58 The Enlightenment was a period of European history that came after the Renaissance. It saw the creation of Protestantism and liberal ideas. A big idea was that your relationship with God is personal and not something that's other people's business (like the Catholic Church). Another big idea was that all humans had certain rights and that royalty was not divinely chosen by God, but rather normal people who happened to have lots of land and money. The Enlightenment inspired the French Revolution and the American Founding Fathers (and thus the American Constitution and the American Revolution).

    Here's a thought: Nobody won.
Okay let me explain this more thoroughly. So in a team battle you're supposed to work together to beat the opponents but when you start infighting then you've basically lost because you couldn't stay together which gives your opponents the opportunity to finish you off (see what I did there?). However if the opposite team does the exact same thing and starts infighting too they lose as well as they couldn't stick together. Therefore neither side wins. They both lost.
I know some people would say "So in other words they tied" this is not the case though. I think for a tie to happen both sides would have had to have an equal amount of disses and work together throughout the whole thing and if everything falls apart at the end on both sides there can't be a winner or a tie as they didn't work together at the end of it.

I've noticed after watching these rap battles over the years that when it's a one-on-one battle, one person is trying to dismiss the other through sarcasm, put-downs, and tends to use a lot of wordplay. The other person is going for the jugular and hitting them with lethal bars because they want to destroy them. This was different as a group battle, but ERB did a great job with each person taking on the opponents then turning on each other.
