It's always refreshing when a show has characters who are already comfortable in their sexuality, no denial or wondering if they're gay or if it's this one specific person the whole time. Just "I like men, whether I like this man is the question."
I remember loving “given” in my formative years, since it gave my repressed teenage queer self something wholesome and reciprocal to vicariously project into. After actually becoming more romantically (and physically) mature, nothing brought me greater joy than seeing an anime about two middle aged MEN who work at ordinary jobs, bonding semi-organically over their struggles with self-worth, identity, and the ability to be vulnerable around each other (a skill for which men are world renowned). I also appreciated that the show wasn’t centered solely around the confession or consummation of the leads as the ultimate goal and tries to show how adult relationships (and especially queer ones) can really be affected by poor communication, general attitudes of public disapproval, and work-life balance. 1:57 After rewatching a lot of my favorite shows, I commonly found the leads were less relatable than they used to be and come off as childish and immature. It unbelievable how low our standards used to be! 😅
Gravitation was my fav growing up but then I rewatched it 3-4 years ago and -- Sheesh, it did not age well. I think the manga is a bit better because side it gives more story but the anime was rough to rewatch.
I found sasaki to miyano really got and stranger by the shore :D Given was also really cute :3 It's really a shame that there are so many agegaps in bl :(
bruhh if you wanna watch or read boy love then anime might not be the best choice; but still if you wanna watch anime then how on EARTH DID YOU NOT SEE ''doukyusei'' or ''given''; they are so beautiful and if it does not have to be anime then thai bl industry is really good like ''my school president'' and ''the eclipse'' etc are soooooooooooooooooo good bruhhh my personal fav tho is a greek mythology ''the song of achilles'' it surpasses even romeo juliet
@@drtiakey I'm sorry, I mentioned that without offering suggestions. Danmei is the notorious BL genre of China. It's notorious because of the unfortunate censorship, but I promise you it still works magic. They have: - novels, aka the source material which you can find uncensored easily. Some of them get really spicy. Some of the popular authors are MXTX and Priest. - Donghua, aka the Chinese anime. This already goes into the censored area, though you can spot the romance. Here you can find "Founder of Diabolism" and "Heaven Official's Blessings", by MXTX, both very good. - live series. Yeah, they can have cheesy CGI (since most of them are martial fantasies) and they're still censored, though they are very catchy and fans became addicted really quickly. Here I can suggest "The Untamed" - live version of Founder of Diabolism. And "Word of Honor" by Priest (this one is my personal favorite. The conflict doesn't rely on miscommunication or non-con, and their love is hidden underneath small gestures, cultural and literal context, heavy flirting, cutscenes/behind the scenes etc etc. I got lots of food with the main bois) - manhuas, aka the Chinese mangas. The only one I know of is "Mo Dao Zu Shi" by MXTX (aka Founder of Diabolism aka The Untamed). Not that censored, it does follow the canon spice if you know where to search 😶
Yes!! I enjoyed the story. I thought it was heartfelt and sweet at times. HOWEVER, the music was t-r-a-s-h! I am biased because I loved the music in Gravitation and had a high expectation. However, Given is a much better story, in my opinion.
