These guys just ooze cool. Art-rock of the highest order. Music for people with superior taste. We can lament that WP weren't bigger, but deep down we love that they were our little secret.
My first Wolfgang Press album ever - bought in Jan 1989 just a few months after it came out the previous year. Decided to get it because I loved the cover art of a toilet - such perversity just makes me want to investigate! That was often the case with anything on 4AD records (their sleeve designs are just so beautiful and striking: I discovered and became a huge fan of Colourbox the same way in 1985/6 as well as many other 4AD bands later on), even though I'd heard of the name TWP previously. Played it the first time and was like.....WOW...WHAT IS THIS? This is absolutely like nothing else I've heard. Dark, sinister, threatening, but also quite addictive. After several further listens I was hooked. This was one of five albums which soundtracked the year 1989 for me. Even now I still play these three TWP albums obsessively (Queer and Funky Little Demons being the other two)….. such a great and under appreciated band.
I had a similar experience. I walked into my fav record store to hear Deep Briny echoing through the store (and shaking the walls) and I knew I was DONE. Buy! Gimme! It was almost a religious experience. I kid you not. Then I saw the cover of Water by Ricci and knew I'd found something truly, truly special. Mic has said that he was never really enamored with the 4AD house style, which is why Ricci did so many covers for TWP. I guess he finally had to give in. The later covers were fine, but the early ones... OMG. Like the music. Raw. Innovative. Exciting. AWESOME!!! (BTW, as a visual artist myself, I was and remain a big fan of Vaughan Oliver (RIP). But I think the Ricci pieces elevated those early releases to another whole level, and I understand why Mic insisted on going a different route.)
Saw them in KC at The Shadow. A really tiny venue, but that made it very intimate. That was the Queer promotional tour. I was hoping they'd play "Shut That Door". I wasn't disappointed (-:
hello all Me and Mick (TWP) Gary Asquith from renegade soundwave and Stephen Gray will be playing a short set at Half Moon in Putney on 28th January undera new project named 'Free Rivers'
One of the greatest bands ever. Everything great. Great Bass lines...great... if i remember correctly somewhere in 1987 i walked 15 kms to another town to listen "bird, wood, cage"... I had no money for the bus LOL
Not nearly the same level of sacrifice... but I drove all over SoCal on multiple occasions to see them. Given the traffic in LA... ;-) Well, a small price to pay for a true fan, right?
Artiom Romashov Funny, I can't really claim that. Mainly it's because there's so many bands that have a great sound, outstanding in each individual way. I just enjoy the moment for whatever residual coolness it brings to my life and remember the artist for later. That's how I got such a collection of stuff like this and keep getting more. Yeahhhhhhhh... where would we be without good music?

One of the best bands ever. Creative and powerful. Glad I got to catch them in Chicago.
At the Metro around 95-96? I was there too. Met Mick Allen backstage
@@lordgaga8022 Great guys... the whole group. :-D

One of the very few bands ever that you can truly say, the were a league of their own. Timeless, original, defying categorisation.
So you back to business..jajajaj
Truly!
This whole album is incredible was lucky to see this tour in Washington dc...
Bird Wood Cage is an absolute classic - glad I saw them during that time: blew Pixies off the stage
@@harrymay2528 Blew the Pixies off stage? Holy shit. I mean, I believe it... but that's no mean feat!
Wish I coulda seen that show!!!!
I saw the Wolfgang Press live twice. Once in 92’ and in 95’ and the do live up to the hype.

God! I miss this band.
Hear hear!
under rated / breaks my heart ~
Ah, watching it again. They don't make em like this anymore, ace.
This song changed my life, and my stupid life tried to change back
greatest Band ever!
Not the Beatles? :-p
They're certainly among my all time greats! Still. Today. All these years later.
wow, discovery of the month!
Well this is the first time I have seen this video, thanks for posting. I have this on 12" vinyl and cd single from back in the day...
Ain't that the truth!
These cats are brilliant and cool
Savagely overlooked tho
Best band ever!

This band was So influential in my head in the 90s/and '00s. Kind of like KMFDM, for those who know who they are.
Peter Drizhal KMFDM were great live but a boring one trick pony on vinyl/CD.
qué bacanes eran estos wnes, adelantados a su época como casi todo lo de 4ad...
cool tune...shared to Netshows Radio "Program 319" Playlist on youtube
Thx 4 the video
reunited new album out
Groovy!
Fucking Amazing ❤❤❤
Reminds me somewhat of the band COIL
I've only seen one video by this band for the tune "A Girl Like You"---not sure if I've ever seen any others by them--the song was decent, though.
+rainmaker690 so you've been looking in the wrong places ;)
Search for Cut The Tree (from 1983 4ad compilation Lonely is an Eyesore) - really great song and amazing video
When I was a teenage fucked up and heard this band I thought it was Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds..
im trying to figure out what these guys are about
Interesting that the singer is an Orthodox Jewish person.
How is it interesting?
@@puritycontrol2638 It was interesting five years ago.
he is?
@@irekjakobik5043 what do you mean?
When people in bands I loved from ages ago start wearing hats, I become very suspicious.
Because you're shallow ...
