Because he is just simply so incredibly brave person when everyone was not on his side and now he is national hero for many people today. Truly a lionheart.

How could something written over *35* years ago be the best song to come out in *2021* if it was released today?
Ahead of his time. Way ahead of his time.
@@olesivertsen5933 I'd like people to cease saying that. He wasn't alone in his mentality forty five years ago, there were many others. He is of his time. Of our time.
I agree it’s the best song for right now!
history repeats itself
@@siberianbreaks979
Well it hasn't musically? There is nothing like this about today?
His daring and genuine actions against the queen, the BBC and overly then popular Jimmy Savile who could get away with such power, proves he is ironically as a major anarchist punk in England in some way the greatest Lionheart in England of our times. Because he is just simply so incredibly brave person when everyone was not on his side and now he is national hero for many people today.
Truly a lionheart.
SPOT ON....
Absolutely!.
well said, funny how many of those who stood against him back then love him now and claim they always have. There's a title for those people, I call them hypocrites. Rude and irreverent they called him, truthful and genuine, I'd say. Just look into his eyes during the lines "I could be right I could be wrong" He was always right, roflmao, he's just humble and clever enough to offer the possibility of an alternate opinion. So make your own minds up...arrogant or moral, anti-establishment or pro democracy? I love him now as much as back then in a Tom MacDonald vibe. I'd much rather they were schooling our kids than any politician you could name alive today, cos they'd learn morals good ethics, open-minded thought and decent values instead of greed, number one first and selfish "I'm all right Jack" doctrine.
@@louiscyphre833 I agree wholeheartedly, also the utmost respect, love and care for his dear wife. He is everything a man should be, we need 650 of him in parliament instead of the thriving deceitful globalist bastards we are told we elect.
@@shonabeggs4640 am here after watching "Body Brokers" just this minute. They play 'Rise' at both the beginning and the end. V poignant. Anyways good luck to John at Eurovision ☘ 'Hawaii' he wrote for his wife Nora, he loves her so much. He really is top, top bloke. 😇
One of my favourite PIL songs & a memorable clip ❤ A very astute man.
The most underated song from the 80,s it's poetic :p
it was under rated. PIL in general were under rated IMHO.
He's adorable. I love him.
I think Johnny is Genius in his own way
Honestly one of my favourite clips . production, people, energy.. thankyou its priceless and timeless.. young people who stumble across this.. WOW!
"They put a hot wire to my head
'Cos of the things I did and said
And made these feelings go away
Model citizen in every way"
this verse is very fitting in todays world
Some of his finest lyrics, if not 'the'.
Maybe in part a reference to his comments about Jimmy Savile.
I may not agree with John on everything but I do admire his honesty and the fact that he doesn't fear anybody... he just tells it as he sees it. We could do with more people like that these days.
@@antonystringfellow5152I wish I had been more like that instead of tip toeing around abusive people and then eventually speaking up when a line was crossed. But sometimes you deal with something only when you cross that bridge.
yap, with the speech police and all, going to jail for a tweet.
young John Lydon so cute with his coy narrow eyes and humorous faces!
Thanks JP. You always namecheck the good songs.
Fantastic song....The first line sums up Mr Lydon...He is more often, than not, right....36 years later, and it's still amazing. Loved this since it was released.....
You could be right or I could be wrong any may the road rise for you and me too it means good fortune may the road rise with you
I loved this song when it came out. I used to put it on the jukebox. My grandma was Irish and whenever we left hers she would always say " May the road rise and your enemies be far behind you." Something like that anyway. Along with that memory this song is one of the best anti-apartheid songs out there. I love John Lydon.
+michelle88960 In Irish 'may the road rise to meet you'= Go n-éirí an bóthar leat (Pronounced: guh- ny-ree on bo-her lat), Lydon's dad spoke Irish as his first language iirc, so that's probably where it comes from :)
+michelle88960 *I love Johnny Rotten
+michelle88960 was Irish? she is and always will be Irish, your Irish even if its by 1%............your Irish kidda
wolfe tone She's passed away now, which is why I used the past tense. But yeah I am a bit Irish, and take after her a lot, she was funny a real character. 4 foot 10 and everybody was terrified of her! Not that everybody's terrified of me, (though they should be, I hide it well!) lol.
+pietzsche Maith an fear :)
Every line reeks of honesty and integrity. Anger IS an energy. ✊
A brilliant song! 1986 was a superb year 4 music! No Serial Killer.
Lydon is an incredibly intelligent and charming man. I believe him.
A song for our time...Anger is an ENERGY!...
But what matters the most is what you do with that energy
It’s such a great lyric, and kinda true too.
scötty nrj ^^
öne mähn inn v v
May the road rise with you...
it's for all times
1986 song... 30 years now, it aged very well!
How Laswell and Lydon produced this masterpiece of an album is one of the greatest stories in rock history. And we have the tunes too. Everyone's a winner baby.
Laswell has his dabs all over my favourite tunes. Such a svengali.
One of the soundest with it blokes I think I ever had the pleasure to get to know ( not personally of course ) through his music his interviews his love ❤ of arsenal ( Johnny pure gooner ) his experience s in music industry and all the beaurocratic bollox that went with it .. he was always his own man with integrity.. respect for people in his own way.. a man that's ideas .. opinions and just generally should be given great respect as a good man and human being ... As is said in carlow .. drive on Johnny lad .. all the best to you and Nora ... An absolute masterpiece of music " rise '
One of his best PiL recordings! Anger is an energy! John Lydon for Prime Minister!
Prime Minister?? I wish... he's not corrupt enough for that b.s.
Could you imagine? There would be chaos at the first UN meeting with everyone being told to f. off by the PM 😂
That era was like a breath of fresh air , I was fed up with music , self indulgence crap
I've been listening to - and pondering the meaning of - this song for nearly 40 years now. That is the hallmark of true art.
The meaning of this song is pretty obvious
@@steveberzel5858 Well, maybe to you.
"I could be wrong, I could be right..."
More often than not, John has been right.
In years to come, he'll be remembered not just as a pioneer of punk, but one of the world's greatest philosophers.
#AngerIsAnEnergy
A highly intelligent & creative man - bordering on genius.
Well he was right about Jimmy Savile!!!!
You don't seem to understand what philosophy is
You perhaps need to read a bit more.
@@daynasmum529An overstatement if I've ever read one.
Come on guys this song this is a classic song. Let's give it a many million views

Lydon is very much a person who deserves recognition for services to music and also his stance on life really. He is Knighthood material and would like to think he would politely decline it.
I'd
like to think he's impolitely decline, but then if it came with a few quid... xxx
@@grahampearson1402 he'd politely decline it and make no further comment.
I'd say he would, not in disrespect.
@@airwolf5826 The above comments while I side with them and he would say f**k off. He is a Gentleman so for that reason I know he would just say no and hit back with some snarky comment about the Royal family....As they deserve................
rudely decline it, I would hope.
He wears his suit like a straight jacket. I like it!
Should be renamed "Best Album Ever!"
Never really noticed before but John has the most amazing blue Irish eyes.
missbitch67 His parents were irish
You don't say? I'm from about 20 minutes from where his Mum comes from in Cork, not all Irish people have blue eyes!
Blue eyes are Nordic, not Celtic.... Ireland was settled by large numbers of Vikings (Dublin was founded by Vikings - it was set up as a slave trading city).... Many Celts have the much rarer green eye colour (green eyes are the rarest eye colour).
Very beautiful

My Thai girlfriend has black eyes. Very beautiful.
Johnny the intelligent man What great lyrics , may the road rise with you , is an old Irish saying , a nod to your Irish heritage. , an Maith Sean 🇮🇪☘️
i thought Johnny made that line up. Still a great song.
Still a outstanding magnificent masterpiece!!!
Johnny rotten absolute legend
Just love what he said about kieth flint .. he was left on his own .. bless up John your a true LEGEND ❤
Well done John, love this one.
May the road rise with you.
Genuis song and John is a patriot.
Watched him twice in 1987. They even played Holidays in the Sun. Two of the best concerts I ever saw. Genius.
Faded out too early. That "anger is an energy" outro as he starts really screaching it is one of the best, most rawly honest vocal performances recorded for posterity.
Anger is an energy - use it with love and caution.
Saw John on his book tour last year very intelligent and witty man, what a legend
Increasingly relevant.
His stare can make you love him and feel uncomfortable at the same time
"May the road rise with you" 2020 .. the year this song gets Validated. .
Anger is a energy, your not wrong there Mr. Rotten
So much emotion passing through his eyes
