It's 1986 and all of a sudden these ex-Bauhaus types appear on The Chart Show complete with a fabulous video which makes those of us who didn't keep up suddenly realise that we should have - 'Yin and Yang (The Flowerpot Man)' is taken from the Express album and brightened up many lives back in the Autumn of 1986. Enjoy.

The more time that passes, the more I realise this song, this album, and this band are all incredibly special.
I met Daniel randomly in Ojai, CA. He was a neighbor of a friend who was having a house party. No one at the party knew who he was but Mr. Ash invited me over to chat and listen to music for a bit. He kindly accepted the whiskey that we provided for him. All around good fellow.
My dad passed when I was 8. But before that he showed me this music and opened my eyes to such an amazing world of people and culture and now I'm so glad to say I grew so much from the life he gave me and he continues to inspire me.
love and rockets is only one root in a beautiful flower. i am sorry for your loss
So.. what up?
God bless you 🙏
Your dad sounds awesome. I'm very close with my dad and he just sent me this song. Thus I felt I should reply to your comment.
@@joy2955 im glad :)
I’m 61 and remember the day I bought this album. Still as clean, fresh, and relevant as ever!
I bought this record when I was 17. I'm 50 now. And I still can't believe somebody made a song like this. Incredible work. VIva Love and Rockets #FTW!!!!
I had not really followed the BauHau's and only briefly listened to Tones on Tail. I was at Wax Trax in Denver and an employee was playing this song and turned me on to the whole album!!! I was 19 and am now 55.
same
15 year old me couldn't understand why this song wasn't wildly popular.
I saw L&R on the tour that supported Express. I was right against the stage watching Kevin play this song just a few feet away and it blew me away. It's one of those concert moments I'll never forget. L&R is the best...and Express is a monster of a record.
Such an underrated Band. Pretty Brilliant
Can't believe I have been listening to this song, and this album, for almost 40 years now and it NEVER gets old. It sounds fresh and new and exciting every time. I am so glad I got to see them live back in the day, the crowd going nuts when the flowerpot/bubblemen came out during this song 🙌
Good music doesn't age
Because its fucking awesome!!!
INDEED! Saw this tour. Still amazes me.
I saw them twice! Amazing shows.
It's amazing how many memories you can awaken when you rediscover a forgotten song
Love & Rockets, Tones on Tail, and Bauhaus helped me get through college days in the late '80's. 🎉🎶🕊
Kevin Haskins was/is such a beautiful man.
A timeless song & video! Daniel Ash is a musical genius for the 3 bands he created. Bauhaus, Tones On Tail, Love & Rockets all had amazing songs.
Ash created Bauhaus?
@@I_Have_The_Most_Japanese_Music yes he did, he selected everyone himself.
@@Sinistar8u Wow. Most interesting thing I've learned today.
And each band uniquely different 😍
I always thought Tones on Tail was David J's band. Learn something everyday...
Love and Rockets is some weirdly-deep-and-trippy-genius shit, I love it.
and Kevin is so cute aw
Driving down an empty highway, the sun blazing down, the windows open, is this song
They ended the October 2, 1989 DC concert with this song. One of the best concerts ever.
Kevin Haskins is so so cute!!
top 5 favorite bands...Ash's intoxicating vocals, davids pounding throbing bass..and kevins drums spinning this track at a rapid rate through my mind! Fuck, to be 20 again This still get me fired up.
♥️♥️Yes!!!♥️♥️
glad you mentioned the Bass! Very much influenced by McCartney's work on Lucy and Rain and the other psychedelic stuff
warm smile ..
And don't forget the dancing bees and flute playing monkey man.
If I could only see one more live concert, it would be Love & Rockets. Saw them in the states once and they just blew me away. The sound that these 3 guys produce is amazing, and gave me this opioid-like euphoria that lasted for days. Seriously. The best band EVER!!!
Totally agree. Saw them on the Sweet F.A. tour crowd was basically agape at their prowess the entire show. Best for sure.
Bauhaus and Love and Rockets !!
@@andreasboose5611 Tones on Tail too!
This year is your chance. 2023.
@@wordsandmusicstudio of course !
Love and Rockets on tour with Jane's Addiction. Two of my fav bands in the '80's. I can't believe it. We were all partying to their music in Athens, Ga., late '80's. Wow. ✨️🎶🎶🎶🎉
I remember seeing them in concert in 87-88?? the bubble men came out and started the show. one of the best concerts ever
Saw them in London…summer of 1988..The Bubblemen opened the show…
End of my college years. Can mark the years with all of their songs.
I still play this cd in my car.... great album and amazing musicians.
have had the disc 'Express' for 30 years and still listen to it..... Gotta tell you somethingabout how good it is
One of the best records in the 80's , back when we'd buy records at Tower/Record Factory/Wherehouse
Waited for my buddy's parents to go out of town so we could jam this tape on the "sonic" setting of their stacked Bose system in the living room. It normally played jazz and we weren't allowed to touch it. Brought that system to life when we jammed Love and Rockets. Good times. 30 years on now.
I feel like we will never have music this good again. Ever.
Fact
Sadly, I agree.....
I'm working on it.
"Heal the Nations"❤
Still get goose bumps thinking of moshing to this in 1987 at Le Bistro in Hull ,Quebec TOO, DAMN, GOOD!!
as a suburban sheltered teen, this music opened my eyes to a whole new world.
that sounds so lame
i'm sorry, i don't mean to say the sentiment is, i'm just - you sound lame
Love it, similar experience, cheers
Driving those dark back roads, late at night - coming back from the party - and loving a music that truly was “alternative”
This album plus lsd opened my mind
Express is a masterpiece, and the L&R apex. Ash is a remarkable guitarist.
The guitar chords to this song and the others were included (with the lyrics) when you bought the lp back in the day, which helped me learn guitar. I started my first band a few years later at age 18. Thank you L&R!
The Express tour show at The Blackstone Theater in Chicago was the second best concert I ever attended right behing Roger Water's The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking. Daniel Ash on sax and guitar, note from one bleeding into the same nopte on the other was one of the greatest notes ever played in rock history in my not so humble opinion.
The drummer... beautiful beautiful
this is a visual masterpiece. really well done with the black and white contrast.
the chorus popped into my head last night after not hearing it in decades,my hippocampus brought me here..ty noggin noodles. :)
Love how everyone looks like they had lots of fun in this video!
i can't get it loud enough!!!
upgrade bud !
try harder!!!
Bowers & Wilkins 800 series Diamond speakers, should do the job.
Turn it up to 11
A friend of mine from New Orleans met Daniel Ash at a small local pub there, in the late '80's. They said Daniel was so nice, and bought everyone there a round of drinks.
That's the coolest.🎶🎉
how the hell did i miss this gem
Express is such an AWESOME ALBUM...
These guys, along with Pete Murphy, were everything to me in my teenage years. Right band, right time.
This record's absolutely great! I wish I'd heard it years ago.....
Great song! ❤️ Love and Rockets! 🤘🏻❤️✌🏻
Love this tune
Always been a huge fan of Love & Rockets! This video gives the right meaning to goth n psychedelic. I love the black blood as well as the paintings. Those r Kevin Haskins' work.btw.
Kevin looks just a young version of lead singer of The Church.....!...Saw L &R in London..summer of 1988!
Damn THIS took balls visually by 80's standards especially!
And JUST AS INTENSE live (1989@ the Fabulous Fox Theater St. Louis, (orchestra pit seats)with THE PIXIES opening in the wake of Doolittle😎😎😎🤘🖖💗💗💗💗
Best video ever! They do such a brilliant job making it feel like an acid trip.
The whole point, isn't it?
Definitely a great video, especially in a time when bid budgets seemed to dominate the video making world. They pulled off great videos without blowing tens of thousands of dollars.
Awesome song, fantastic video, great album (Express).
I first heard this on a Thai Air flight from Bangkok to London after 6weeks trekking through the jungles of Sabah & Sarawak! Free booze and a virtually empty plane makes for much fun and a killer hangover when we arrived at Heathrow 🥴
This. ❤
Way ahead of their time....! ❤️️🇨🇦
Just stopping in - Yep, 2022 and still a classic. Fun video, too.
This video has it all including dancing bees. I think they had some fun with this one. Love and Rockets were really in the pocket here- the years 1985-1987.
been playing this song sinse i first heard it in my younger days,1 of my all time fav tracks along with an american dream as-well,both have been in my all time top 100 songs, for ever,HOOAH,PLAY AT MAX VOLUME
Good album this is what i listened to in high school
no, you listened to Warrant Nathan
One of my favourite videos ever.
miss the good old days
I STIL LOVE LOVE LOVE “Love & Rockets”. Had the BIGGEST crushes on BOTH David J and Kevin Haskins. Made sense. They are Brothers after all!!
My favorite L&R albums (in order of preference) are: EXPRESS…
EARTH SUN MOON and… SEVENTH DREAM OF TEENAGE HEAVEN
an agenda of uncomplicated aesthete... 'hats off' to daniel ash, david j and kevin haskins... purveyors of the finest brain candy.... what the world dont realise now about love and rocket's music... they will later... viva...!!! and thanks for posting
We used to have to wait up to watch 120 Minutes to see this
It was a wknd treat
It blows my mind how much easier it is to find music today. Even in the early days of the internet, you'd read about music on newsgroups or listservs, but then you'd have to go to a record store and buy it to hear it yourself. Now, it's usually available on youtube/Vimeo.
WELL, it wasn't exactly a chore! it was something to anchor your week around.
and record it on vhs tapes to rewatch later with our cool friends
another alternative band who should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just because...
"Alcohol is your yoga baby" - love that line.
one of the greatest band of the 80ies i still love them immortal rock
Daniel Ash is a genius
.
15yr old me lived this song and aesthetic 24/7. yin yang, black white and kevin haskins delicious blue eyes...sigh
Great song
"Alcohol is your Yoga, baby." It's like he knew 2020 was on the way :) I LOVE them!
Love these guys.
So beautiful !!!!
the 80's were the best I was 28 when this came out, now i am 65 where has the time gone
It's what every Artist is reaching for, and Love and Rockets are Artists with a capital A. Let me tell you about the time I interviewed Daniel Ash in L.A. (available on cassette).
I remember buying this in anticipation at the tender age of 18 on 12inch - I used to bump into Danny Ash a lot in our local record store SpinaDisc in Northampton, David J lived across the road from us
I wish it was LOUDER.
I just had it at max innmy car and almost reached nirvana 🖤
Damn it was cool growing up when this was released. What a time to be alive.
perfection....
Can't believe I saw them
b4 I really got into them!
Lucky me, I guess . . . DJ
I called this new wave psychedelic
I saw this debut on MTV's 120 minutes show at the time. It was such a great surprise how they were creating many videos rather quickly. I'd say that it certainly grew more fans as a result. Once they had a collection of their music videos on VHS (including a special guest appearance by the Bubblemen), called "The Haunted Fishtank," I received it as a Christmas gift.
"Express" is such an excitingly energetic LP, overall (and, knowing it as leading with, "It Could Be Sunshine"). I just listened to it last night for the first in a long while, coincidentally. The melodic distortion and pop-like arrangements drove the album's sequence urgently like a locomotive; I suppose I should say, a "Kundalini Express." It was also at this time where I was just getting to know the discography of T. Rex, and could hear a healthy influence of Marc Bolan on Daniel Ash through the 4th to the 1st chord progressions.
At commercial record stores and another privately owned shop, I bought anything I could find on them through EPs, t-shirts, pins, their first album, and then the treasure of learning about Tones on Tail.
I should mention that although I knew of Bauhaus, I didn't actually start listening or collecting anything by them until about three years or more after Love and Rockets. They're certainly two bands, regardless of the common threads, and I needed time to get to know that library (and then followed Peter Murphy's career as well).
Anyway, I could probably write more, but I think I've adequately shown my appreciation in this comment.
I had the VHS too. Not sure if I still have it. I and my friends watched it so many times, especially when we weren't supposed to, i.e. during exam week 0_0
So many great videos, and low budget. Not the glossy slick nonsense of the 80's video era.
Such a wonderful song for us vampires in the late80s
Beautiful....
Loved this song and have never seen the video! Love it too!
Hey! It's the Bubblemen!!
First heard this in Miami Vice, a very long time ago. Brilliant stuff!
Which ep?
@@kaori_kanzaki season 4 episode 6 "God's Work"
Saw it Live , and Daniel laid down on stage on his side strummin like a Rockstar.
Of course the longer album version is better. I have all of their albums and EPs and still listen to them though I am almost 60. Also saw them live a couple of times. Playing them now for my 15 year old son.
Love this song. Opening riff similar to Pinball Wizard.
I can't stop watching this :DDD
This might be the greatest song ever
AWESOME
so, so, so good. kevin and david really look a lot alike in this vid. i think i might be in love with daniel. literally, this band just gets better and better (been listening to them since '86).
already called dibs on Daniel 😂
@@shelseamoen227 I bet he's the kind of person he can share;-)
BEST L&R song...ever!
Seriously!!! Like Slay me with this!!!!
The video creative and artistic content has finally caught up to that of the music for L&R.
Love this tune 🇨🇦
What a great video! And song of course 😁 I always blast it in the car.
LOVE this.
great band
As well as being a remarkably accomplished guitarist, Daniel Ash was right sexy back in the day.
Still is and are you.
@@framodcole yea still is except the fact he awfully resembles Bono :(
When I was 15 years old I was so in love with Daniel Ash and was convinced I would marry him someday. Great memories!
Hell yes!
People keep bringing that up.
SWEET!!!...shared to the Netshows Radio "Program 99" Playlist on youtube
