Thank you guys for all you do. After picking up 3 bottles of Hibiki Harmony, I received a bottle of Glenfiddich 18 on Saturday, and bought Highland Park 12 + Green Spot today. As a result I had to tell my wife I'm done buying whisk(e)y for a while haha
After watching literally 100’s of your videos it’s becoming very easy to determine numerous videos are done back to back based on the giggliness you guys get as the videos go on. Great friendships make great videos keep up the great content and unsurpassed knowledge of whiskyism Thank you 🙏 for the what has become my favorite channel for both entertainment and knowledge
John Glaser hosts content on the Compass Box UA-cam page. He actually pronounces Juveniles as an English speaker would, no French necessary. I really like the piece he did about Juveniles and how it was created to accompany cheese.
GASP!! MORE COMPASS BOX!!! I have this bottle and am SO in love with it!! If you can get this get it fast. They didn't quite bottle 15,000 bottles of this stuff. lol Added Rex in the slow-mo was fantastic! Seriously though guys, do the Lost Blend for me please.
Rex, do you comb your hair with a balloon before each video? Upping your ensemble game for the pweble. 😂👌🏼 Just busting your balls, Rex! You two should trade insults and whomever laughs first loses and winner gets to pick a pour of whiskey! lol
Hmm, excellent review gentlement of the Compass Box Juveniles, the balance of honey sweetness and dryness is intriguing. I guess destructive anger management issues cannot occur in the vault, if the Ally McBeal approach does not work my drama professor in college said yelling really loud was a good way to relieve tension and stress. Cheers to great drams with fiddly bits!
First my Full Whettleing (that's a verb, right?) is done with a blank screen with a stolen pic, and now Patrick gets no screen at all? FOR SHAME. Why do I feel like the whiskey gods may be getting antsy about how lax things are getting lately? I'm scared... but also excited for what it might lead to eventually.
I remember seeing the hand rubbing on a travel show where they were testing high-end Vodka. Makes it easier to identify a good quality vodka. It can also give you clues as to if sugar/syrups/oils were added in to mask undesirables, makes the hands sticky or oily. You can also dip your finger in your glass to get a drop on your finger then rubbing it on the back of your hand. Basically it allows you to pick up aromas that might've been masked by the alcohol vapors. I like to do this with that extra little drop or two that dribbles down the bottle after pouring.
Good Morning! The Rex-face slo mo was a bit much. Update from yesterday. The Balvenie 16 is outstanding. I’ll work on communicating taste noted in the future. I have not opened the Penderyn. It’s a Madeira. I’ll let you know how it is.
R-trying to think of what this is comparable too..... D - maybe hibiki R- I will allow the hibiki.. D-I just wanted to drink hibiki Sooooo.. Daniel is mooching the mooches mooching?
I'd like you guys to try some inexpensive whiskey and see if its truly horrible or just low priced. One of my personal favorites is military special. Most people perceive it as horrible and I enjoy the hell out of it.
What would you recommend as a gift to someone for a once in a lifetime achievement, for example getting their pilot's license, passing the bar exam, getting their master's, etc?
Solid video as usual! Pronunciation is “zhoo-vén-eel” (or at least as close as I can get while spelling out a pronunciation). John Glaser is an AMAZING blender!!
I suggest Daniel quizzes Rex before he gets his dram, Wrong answer = No whisk(e)y. 😅 Its funny because Rex kept on agreeing while Daniel was explaining 😂
ooh... an atomizer full of laphroig, i bet that would make for a great cocktail. there's a few drinks out there, the Sazerac for example, that have an absinthe rinsed glass, but many people just mist the glass with the absinthe in an atomizer... i bet laphroig would also have an appreciable effect in that manor
Excited to watch! Just began my whiskey journey. Like just starting. Like I’ve had Monkeywrench, Angels Envy, Jim Bean, and Makers 46...I know there is bourbon in there. Open to any suggestions.
Buffalo Trace is a wonderful bourbon at a great price. I'm a big fan of it. But if you wanted to branch out from bourbon, Glenfiddich 12 is a great place to start with scotch as it doesn't have the aggressive smoke or brine of Islay whiskies and has a sweet, butterscotch quality to it. Irish whiskies might also be worth looking into, but I don't have much experience there. Jameson's good for the price; not terribly complex but still well worth sipping. But I'm also a relative novice and I've found that I love Islays, such as Ardbeg, Lagavulin or Laphroaig. If you're interested in the "dark side" of whiskey, my recommendation for an Islay scotch would be Laphroaig Quarter Cask as it's great value for the complexity of the whisky. It's extremely woody, which I love, but if that doesn't appeal then Laphroaig Select is a good one as well, as it is lighter on the smoke than other versions but still has the Islay character. The Select might actually be the ideal starting point for Islay whiskies, come to think of it. But most of all I recommend watching more Whiskey Vault episodes, such as the best whiskies for beginners. Hope that helps!
Who's drunk at the Vault reading the comments, hearts for near every comment lol you have heart, and you have a heart oh wait hearts for all, that's like internet drunk hugs lol Cheers
It was The Whisk(e)y Vault who I found out about the Hibiki Harmony which is a lovely dram. I love the channel but my wife hates it as the bottles are taking over the house 😝
for someone who is fairly new to the whiskey scene, does anyone have any tips for identifying tastes and smells. i've tried a handful of different things and I can taste and smell a difference but I cant explain what it is at all or relate it to anything. some of that might just be my lack of experience with the complexity that whisky can be. Or even any recommendations of some simple scotches or bourbons to try top start being able to pick out and identify flavors?
Is there different sizes to the Glencarin glasses? The ones you guys have look bigger than mine. (Gigidy). Also when are you doing a Woodford straight malt review?
I tried Japanese Whiskey for the first time recently, "condensed but nuanced and balanced" seems to be the common theme among them. I tired Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt and it was fairly delicate but crazy nuanced with a true balance between sweetness and smoky. I'd love to know their philosophy behind their blends!
I think Rex is rubbing off on me....I heard nothing about the French influence. Daniel started talking and my mind went off thinking about an event that happened today. Not a specifically remarkable event, just a item that popped into my head. I even wanted to know about the influence. Freaken' mooch is effecting my focus.
in the documentary "neat" the story of bourbon, the gentleman (fogger his name) at Buffalo trace does the hand "hack" thing during tasting on the tour.
Not sure why but I had a vision while watching this video of a torture challenge between Rex and Daniel. Might have been the niceness between the Juveniles and Hibiki. Basically for a week one would serve the Whiskeys being reviewed to the other during the videos but the one serving was not allowed to drink Whiskey for the week. The next week they would switch. Maybe I just need some whiskey LOL.
@JMMurray203 I think they definitely get more right than wrong. And I am not just saying that because I actually work for VA ABC. I prefer the lottery system for rare bottles of whiskey like the Pappy line or BTAC. It justs makes it slightly more fair for people who want a hard to get bottle, but don't have the $2,000 to drop on a $100 bottle of Pappy 15.
@@pikerize That's definitely what they get right. Most of my complaints is with the distribution of some stuff being horrendous. Like most of the GoT Whisky never making it out of Richmond. Some of their regular, run of the mill Scotch is vastly overpriced compared to shops I can see across the river in DC/MD, like double the price. I just wish they would let Costco sell liquor lol.
I have found slated caramel in laforigec quarter cask on the nose but not in the taste, is this common for someone who has just tried it for the first time?
I know Compass Box have their blend “recipes” available on their website but how do you find out about other whiskies? Is their particular sites or is it more of an industry insider sort of thing?
WRONG Danny...The first person you saw doing that was Mr. Miyagi before he healed Daniel LaRusso..Although he didn't creepily smell his hands afterwards...
I had a bottle of Compass Box, Peat Monster given to me, but haven't tried it yet. I Love smokey whisky, but don't have high hopes for this. Have you ever reviewed it?
The Godzilla Rex coming in behind the pour is an instant classic. You guys are the worst. I like to keep a balance between compliments and insults. Well maybe not a balance, but a ratio at least.
When I watch your UA-cam videos, they put some of similar interest on the right side of the page. There are other Whiskey videos from you and some of your friends. Lately there is a link to "The Making of Dumb and Dumber".
"I've nosed , I've Tasted, I've Lived" .... My next tattoo for sure.
What a double entendre 😂
Slow mo face shot.... Fantastic
I want an episode from Rex PoV where Chad edits the Charlie Brown noises in whenever Daniel tries to explain something to him

Great video guys! Daniels information and Rex's lightheartedness while we also got to see Rex's behind the scenes directing.

Just started watching last week and have been binging... Thank you for opening my eyes to Talisker, by far the best whiskey I've had to date
"A density of different nuanced notes." - Rex Williams Jan 22, 2019
That may be genius. It may not be, but it might be.
I love the new camera angle on the pour.
Freddy at Buffalo Trace was the person who taught me the hand rubbing thing. We were very lucky that he did our tour.
I'm just curious how close Daniel is to murdering Rex on a daily basis? He seems to be close...
*wanting too 😄
I had to start the video over again because I was paying attention to Rex I didn't hear a thing Daniel said 😁
Love the bug eyed peek at the pour Rex!
Good Morning! The Rex-face slo mo was a bit much.

I think y'all should do a review video in which Rex is prohibited from using hand gestures when he is describing the nose/flavor!
At 1:28... Rex creeps me out because he looks a lot like the Burger King dude in the commercials...

Hey guys... Could you review Oban Little Bay please?
Excellent review! It’s awesome when you loveable mooks balance the shenanigans with great tasting notes. It’s like a complex scotch 🤔.
I love you guys, I love your channel, and I love everything you do for the whisk(e)y community. THANK YOU!!!
Your french was close enough, don't hurt yourself😉
A “density of nuance”... simply beautiful.

It would be cool if you could expand on the proof variation and cask interaction!
You guys need to compare this with the Glenmorangie Astar.
I'm French, your pronunciation is correct. Good you reviewed it, i'll take my wife to this restaurant just for the sake of tasting this.
you guys totally forgot the clinging of the glasses,... again :-)
I suggest Daniel quizzes Rex before he gets his dram, Wrong answer = No whisk(e)y. 😅

Can we get a quick review on just the cheapest whiskeys you can find or let rex see if Daniel can tell if a whiskey is cheap by just tasting them.
Imagine the hand rubbing for Irish or Japanese may not hold up as well. Maybe if it's pot still

Actually Daniel needs to up his mooch skills by striking during his monologue as Rex's eyes glaze over and his mind goes blank.
Any chance you guys can review Heaven Hill's 6 Year BIB Bourbon???
You all comment first but I was the first to like the video and that’s what really counts. Literally. Bring back the bag pip intro bastards.

Just make the video for us, Daniel. Rex is in his own world.
John Glaser loves brora and we love it too 💘
The Spirit Monk[e]y is present.
Pretty sure they used to run whisky round the edge of roger taylors glass of whisky and coke before going on stage because he just wouldn’t stop..
Are there any whiskeys that have used old rum barrels?
Hi how much does the Juveniles cost where you guys are? It's just become available for £65 uk sterling down from £95 - is it worth it?
Am I the only one who saw the shelf flex during the "mini riot".... would've been a bad day if the shelf gave way and everything fell.
Yes that's how you pronounce Juvenile in French, nailed it
Which bottle of Hibiki did you compare it to?

To defend Rex, I wasn't paying attention to you either Daniel. I had to rewind the video about 4 times to hear your explanation.
Best slow mo ever !
Very dynamic
When are we getting a Red Spot review!?!?!
Your French pronunciation was pretty good!
Wow. Creating a whiskey specifically for a restaurant. Do you know where I can learn more about that? 😜

Compass Box! Yes!
It’s weird to see Rex with his old hair again
I know Compass Box have their blend “recipes” available on their website but how do you find out about other whiskies? Is their particular sites or is it more of an industry insider sort of thing?

Peat Monster is indeed worth the money. I get more complexity from this than some peated single malts.
Middle-aged whiskey riot, by Daniel Whittington, featuring Rex on ding dong.
