Some of Daniel's stories start out like he's Verbal Kent. "Back when I was working in this bread shop in Ft. Wayne, IN..." "I used to be in this barber shop quartet in Skokie, IL..." "I used to pick coffee in Guatemala..."
Oh no shit. I was actually about to comment something exactly like that. Thinking "Man, this guy's gotten around more than I have... and I've gotten aROUND."
Compass Box The Double Single - 157€ in Germany - everyday I get a kick and knowledge from watching you both - got my first Glencairn glasses delivered today
Uploaded on my birthday! I "accidentally" bought a 2L of Ballantine's one night, quite a while ago, and tasted it. Initially I didn't like it and left it at the bottom of the shelf. Many months after I purchased it, I started using it in hot toddies, and gradually started to like it neat!
You know how you guys do a quarterly challenge? Today marks the end of my 365day challenge! I have 3 Irish, 1 Bourbon and 11 Scotch lined up (all regions covered:)! Bring on tomorrow! (Don’t think I’ll get through them all tomorrow but I might try a small dram from each Scottish region!) Cheers!
I don't think there is enough appreciation for the art of the big brands on their blends. The master blender for these companies has to pick out the initial mix through nose alone. The only time they are tasting is at the very end of the blending process to finalize the product. To make whiskey on that big of a scale and be that consistent year after year, batch and batch is very impressive.
It's a bit of a surprize for me that so many people like/accept Ballantine's. I always get a bit of a metallic feel when drinking it, and the alcohol seems too prevalent somehow, and all of my spirit drinking friends have a bad opinion of it also. Mind you, I do like higher proofs just fine, but something in Ballantine's just makes me wanna shiver just thinking of it.
I’d like to know who is the Nickelback of Scotch, (meaning every new whiskey they release tastes just as mediocre as the last one). Please and thank you.
I'd have to consider Bruichladdich the Rush of the Scotch. They're fairly well known, but tend to stay cult status for being unique, experimental, & doing their own thing while never watering themselves down just to make money.
I recently bought a Cutty Sark 18 year old blend from the 90's. I am really curious to how it tastes. But going off you're offhand comment about Cutty Sark it should be good
I recently buy a miniature set of Bowmore 12,15 and 18 to start off my experience in a quite early stage of my whiskyjourney (quite on the end of my study, on a budget) and then I recognize a really wierd thing. It had an complete other Color than the stuff form the bottle. Less coloring. I mean if there is less coloring, how can I trust, that that isn´t a whole different content? And I am aware about light breaking in smaller containers aso. Please make an episode about miniatures and samples.
Is anyone keeping a running tally of all the jobs that Daniel has had. I think he's claimed to have been a bartender, a baker or at least in the bread shop, as even a butcher? Has he worked at a Candlestick maker? The count has to at least be in the double digits
@@TheBradWhittington I think it's awesome. Being able to experience all those things is great way of setting your compass for future goals. When you're not exposed to a multitude of things, your compass isn't as calibrated...
Daniel, you have to finish the allegory, if Compass Box is Radiohead, then who is the old and great but taken for granted whisky bottler and what band are they?
I once argued to a woman that Peter Gabriel, after sledgehammer and big time, represented middle of the road mediocrity. She said 'Shock the Monkey' and I had to concede I was wrong. All of which supports your point that Peter Gabriel was great and taken for granted.
I knew Daniel had an Indiana connection when I saw the bottle of Liars Bench Rye from Bear Wallow Distillery in the background of the vault. Looked up that video and it was sent by his Ma and aunties... Daniel, are you following Three Rivers Distilling out of Ft. Wayne, or do I need to send you some of their juice? The Hoosier state has so much more going on than just MGP...
Have these two awesome dudes ever done a rum review? There's surprisingly little rum or tequila reviews on youtube. Would love to hear their favorites.
One day Rex is going to turn around and see a giant notice board covered in different memos and what not and realise that Daniel had been making up all these stories about his past like Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects.
Ballentine‘s was my very first whisky I had ever tasted and bought. At first I mixed it with cola, then I drank it neat, eventually I outgrew it and ventured into single malt and bourbon. I still drink blended whisky, like JW or Dewar‘s white label...now Ballentine‘s just smells like rubbing alcohol and cough syrup to me, overly sweet, I wont go anywhere near it lol.
You still drink Dewar's but won't touch Ballentine's? I suggest you go back and do a blind taste test. They both def taste different but I don't get any rubbing alcohol or cough syrup.
Its been what 20 years since this channel started, they are finally doing a budget scotch (thats a reall budget, not budget compared to The M), and they are doing a non-special release of it. Finally. Now do Teacher’s Highland Cream.
Single pot still: If it's 30% malted barley, 30% unmalted barley, and (according to wikipedia) up to 5% other (oat, rye, etc), what makes up the other 35% of the mashbill? More malted barley? Also, there should be a Daniel week every month. So I can keep mooching whisk(e)y knowledge without having to attend the academy. Sorry Rex.
Oy Daniel, nothing wrong with a good old cigar a day. Life is too short to not enjoy the luxuries of life. As for you Rex, you need more cigars in your life. Start mooching more of them off Daniel.

Me and my friend, Matt, LOVE Andrew! He was our guide at the distillery and was such an amazing guy to hang out with in the vault!

Gotta love waking up to a new vault episode.
Makes my day
12:48??? love the laughter -- and the knowledge~

Cake or Death Daniel? I love that you know Eddie Izzard!
I guess I may not have a sophisticated palate but I absolutely love Ballantines neat 👍
Thank You!!
Great finish. 👍👍
Is there somewhere to order these whiskeys? Most stores don’t have all kinds.
I grew up in fort wayne and we use to go to that bread place as a kid all the time with my siblings and mom and the bread was soooo good!
It's been bugging me forever that Daniel seems familiar - I mooched many slices of bread from that shop in Fort Wayne! Small world.
What is the name of that shop?
@@lorenzosalazar813 My guess is that it is Great Harvest Bread Co. What he described is exactly what they do at their stores.
Where can one find the Compass Box Double Single? Not available through our LCBO.
Small world. Daniel mentioned he worked in Fort Wayne Indiana. I was born near there in Bluffton.
I’d like to know who is the Nickelback of Scotch, (meaning every new whiskey they release tastes just as mediocre as the last one).

If Compass Box is the Eddie Izard of Scotch is Stagg Jr the Lewis Black of Bourbon?
I always embrace blended Scotch whiskys, there's a few blends I've tried that I like more over some single malts that I've tried.
Chubbed up..... OMG I just laughed out loud in my cubicle...
LOL...Welcome! You ain't seen nothin' yet 😁😆
Hey guys... Could you review Oban Little Bay please?
I recently buy a miniature set of Bowmore 12,15 and 18 to start off my experience in a quite early stage of my whiskyjourney (quite on the end of my study, on a budget) and then I recognize a really wierd thing.

So blended scotch is like a Daniel Rex baby?
An average height person?
Cue Hentai Yaoi posts on the FB page
You know what is worth tracking down? "Tobias And The Angel" Compass Box's new release. 😉
Daniel, what movie character was from Fort Wayne, In? Hint, he was called out for the town being call a Fort and was assumed to be a military man.
I resemble those remarks.
Please review John Barr Black Label Reserve. It’s so good!
Hahahaha, the images killed me. 😂
Whoop whoop, Fort Wayne shout out!! First time ever in history prolly!!
Is anyone keeping a running tally of all the jobs that Daniel has had. I think he's claimed to have been a bartender, a baker or at least in the bread shop, as even a butcher? Has he worked at a Candlestick maker? The count has to at least be in the double digits

The roast was real 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Daniel, you have to finish the allegory, if Compass Box is Radiohead, then who is the old and great but taken for granted whisky bottler and what band are they?
Bowmore...? And... I don't know, U2 before "Elevation" came out.
Glenfiddich. Peter Gabriel
I once argued to a woman that Peter Gabriel, after sledgehammer and big time, represented middle of the road mediocrity. She said 'Shock the Monkey' and I had to concede I was wrong. All of which supports your point that Peter Gabriel was great and taken for granted.
Kung fued my first bottle of Texas Single Malt today, Swift Single Malt!! Delicious
Cheers from Fort Wayne
Gotta love that cow bell
I am convinced that the original purpose of blending Scotch was to hide the peated malts which were widely available at the time.
I knew Daniel had an Indiana connection when I saw the bottle of Liars Bench Rye from Bear Wallow Distillery in the background of the vault. Looked up that video and it was sent by his Ma and aunties...

Great review gents! Too bad The Double Single is so dang expensive!
Adding salt for garnish is “finishing” & many finishing salts are available from Hawaiian red or black to San Fransisco Bay coarse sea salt
A good and VERY AFFORDABLE whisky, one of my dailies... Even here in West Africa where prices often are prohibitive, I can get this for $15 ish...
What was the bakery you worked for in Ft Wayne? Daniel
It was called "Harvest" something. Not sure if it's still there though.
Did it have a donme building? I worked there and built a dome for a bakery
Can y'all review a bottle of Virginia Black whiskey?
Have these two awesome dudes ever done a rum review? There's surprisingly little rum or tequila reviews on youtube. Would love to hear their favorites.
Daniel has mentioned rum a handful of times. The only one I can remember that he recommended is Ron Zacapa.
Can you please do a review on VAT 69...I find it more complex and delicious than Ballentines. Ballentines is kinda bland for me, may be I'm wrong.
Recently i was drinking ballantines and iam picking up a touch of smoke. Am i just trippin ?
One day Rex is going to turn around and see a giant notice board covered in different memos and what not and realise that Daniel had been making up all these stories about his past like Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects.

To the architects out there, Compass Box is the Frank Lloyd Wright of whisky
I’m working on a personal delivery of “tube socks” from Chatt, TN. Keep an eye out for me. I might just knock on the door one day, please be there 🥃.
Teachers doesn't get enough love when it comes to blends.
Agreed
Correct me if I’m wrong but did you just say Frank Lampard sent an email???
March is turning into an amazing month for Whisky. Can we stretch #DanielMonth into, say, #DanielDecade?
Who would be the Zeppelin of scotch? Laphroaig?
Who's the REM of scotch
That makes Laphroaig the five finger death punch of whiskey...
Dress to kill, best stand up ever made
Is it just me or when Rex lost his mooching abilities he also lost his ability to real in his belly a little bit.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
So we are reviewing rex and daniels bastard baby today?
I thought it should of been an '89 wood grain Lebaron but that's just my opinion.
But who is the ABBA of whisky..?
Last time I was this early to a video, Rex was trying to be professional....
I absolutely hate Balentines. Has Whiskey Vault reviewed Grand McNish blended?
I really don't see how budget Scotch is closer to budget Irish.
Its been what 20 years since this channel started, they are finally doing a budget scotch (thats a reall budget, not budget compared to The M), and they are doing a non-special release of it. Finally. Now do Teacher’s Highland Cream.

If Eddie Izzard is the Compass Box of comedy does that make Dane Cook the Fireball?
No that would make Carrot top the fireball
Does anyone make a single scotch
I love the Double Single but it's from Compass Box so..........
Oy Daniel, nothing wrong with a good old cigar a day. Life is too short to not enjoy the luxuries of life. As for you Rex, you need more cigars in your life. Start mooching more of them off Daniel.
If people took the time to think about what they drink they would think & Drink differently.
Ballantine
REX,
Compass Box = the Alan Moore of Scotch.
Just imagine if that really was Frank Lampard....
9:10 If getting married gets you magnificent bastarded, does this mean I can send my parents a whiskey to get them off my back?
Last comment was from Frank Lampard.....the retired soccer player?
Teacher's Highland Cream.
0:09 More Like Whiskey Glasses... they not filled with whiskey yet...
Daniel, the bread wasn’t big, you were small
Das ist richtig guter Whisky das kann ich dir Sägg´n
I AM SO DISAPPOINTED.... That Double Single so low you could of done a bottle down ceremony !!! :( ;(
And now for the super creepy comment..."Rraw sex appeal and pheromones" ... can confirm 😉

This was an amazing episode until I had to hear about Daniel's "sex appeal and pheromones".
Smelly hairy hobbit feet don't count, Daniel.
