i met J. Glaser in around 2004-2005 in Ontario, a booth he stood alone when promoting Peat MOnster (chapter 1); he shook my hand and offer his "yet-to-be released" Hedonism-esque. . . I have been blending my own vatts since. . .
That's a really cool story about meeting him! I love the fact that this encounter has resulted in you blending at home even 20 years later. Very cool to try those early editions of his releases as well. Thanks for sharing this! Cheers eh! 🥃
Living vicariously through your video remembering my sample tasting. I think I even enjoyed it more than you and would probably score it a point or 2 higher…. But then there’s the price 😳$$$ Cheers 🥃😇
It's definitely a whisky to experience and savour. I'd love to have a bottle to really get to know, but as you alluded to, that price tag. Cheers John 🥃
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I know with Clynelish 14 and 10 my bottle developed quite a bit as I drank it down. This definitely drinks young so that won't change as it is mainly 6-8 year old whisky, but the heat should subside. Hopefully less heat and more wax/stone fruit/florals. I'll be interested to hear if it improves. Cheers Joel 🥃
I remember trying it back when the tasting was held and...it just wasn't for me unfortunately even though I was excited to try it. As you noted, it's both very subdued and contains grain whisky - both things that turn me off of blended scotches. I'm a malt tater and there's no arguing it XD
I'd rather be a malt tater than a corn tater, life's just more interesting that way. I feel like there's more to be unlocked in this whisky but I'm not biting at nearly $700. I picked up that G&M Highland Park 27 Year and could almost afford to pick up a second for the price of this. Cheers buddy 🥃
Interesting, one I haven't had the opportunity to try, though working in a library & been working in 5 different ones over the 30+ last years, so I might be "overqualified" for that reviewing job, lol...more seriously, I'll just say there are a lot of variations of that '"old library" smell, often mentioned.... I understand the price but I'll be happy if they were a bit more affordable bottlings from Compass Box...Sorry don't know this guy mentioned at the end...Cheers !
I feel like the whisky powers that be MUST get a sample of this into your hands as your experience makes you the perfect reviewer. Who else would have such a combo or whisky knowledge and experience working amongst books. I get the feeling more and more that the days extraordinary Compass Box whiskies flying under the radar for bargain prices are over. The prices aren't poor, just not "affordable" outside the core range. Still they are an extravagance I enjoy. In this case though, $700 was too rich for my blood. I enjoyed the Ultramarine just about as much for less than half the price. Cheers Greg 🥃
Thanks@@chrisdimal9869 but like Matt said, can't afford that price...hope to be able to try it though some day, as I'm "double related to it" in a way...Cheers !

I bought the recent Orchard House and I was actually pretty disappointed. It is pretty hot and tastes very young.

Don't know if you'll see this, but it's still available in Europe (at least in Germany), though be prepared to pay. A lot.

@@GregsWhiskyGuide It's thankfully not $700. Somewhere like €400-450. But, understood your point.
Probably drinking something more affordable
Yeah, he probably would be. I enjoyed this but I'm not at a point where I'm going to spend $700 on this bottle. Cheers Francis 🥃
