These 2 wonderful ladies have worked together for years. The talent on show is exquisite and the singing is sublime. But to also be such accomplished musicians as well is just absolutely stunning. Just shows that Scottish and Irish Gaelic music is supreme.
Julie, My family once lived in Ayr , Scotland. I've always felt so Happy to have ties to Scotland. There's just a special quality in your personality that really enhances your appeal and especially with the tonality in your voice. Thank you for your efforts to promote Scottish Gaelic! You're an angel!
That is just such a great piece of music....love it right down to the last low note on the tin whistle. Well done girls!! (and guys!!) It gets me every time I listen.
At time mark 00:52 starts one of the most beautiful songs from that Celtic/Gaelic cultural area (Ireland/Scotland/a.o.). That melody sung by Muireann is outstanding and wonderful. Also both flutes (Julie Fowlis and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh) are played fantastically clear. Not to forget the fine guitar and bouzouki. If I may suggest something: the song should finally end with a short line of the great singer's vocals. :-)
Long live Gaëlic languages and Breton language too, they can convey so much emotion that no language else can do, I'm a piper, whistler and flute player, I ever deeply vibrate when playing and listening Celtic musics and songs, our roots, the old tunes and songs will never go out of fashion, This video is a part of our cultural treasure, that will never be neither spoiled, nor be killed, this is our soul, our inner harmony of everyday, not our body, so...could never be destroyed, I'm glad
Breton is a Celtic language too, as are Welsh, Manx and Cornish. I don’t think there are any native Manx speakers left, very few Cornish speakers, but Irish, Scots and Welsh are flourishing. I think Breton is as well.
Beautiful languages - Scottish Gaelic is the language of my great-grandmother from way up north. Perhaps where my nordic aesthetic comes from. Blessings from Australia. :-)
I like that the first tune in Scottish Gaelic has a playful sound to it, but the second tune in Irish is heaven to the ears. Muireann has a very lovely voice.
These are three Gaelic songs/ tunes, Tha'm buntáta mór / An Bairille / Boc liath nan gobhar, a recorded version is available on cd "Dual" - just google for fowlis and dual to find.
This is one of the most beautiful performances I have ever heard... so simply a joy to listen to! Everything, the voices, the instruments and tin whistles in harmony... this gave me the chills in a good way! Thank you for sharing this!
I just came across Julie Fowis recently on you tube! Love her voice! I have tried to start a Julie Fowlis radio station on iHeartRadio, but I just get a few of her songs & the rest go to other artists that I’m not interested in!
I'm not Scottish or Irish, I'm English. But I love Gaëlic and Bréton music. Stop the "They must be English" hate for a negative comment - it makes you as bad as them. Back to the video..., the whole "dual" concept is interesting and both Julie and Muireann are masters of their craft.
I took an Irish Studies course my senior year and our teacher linked us to a bunch of awesome videos (this included) and I somehow didn't put them into any playlist. There's still a few to track down, but I am happy I found this again, it was one of my favorite videos she had us watch. I'm glad I didn't have to scroll through almost 4 years of watch history, that would've taken so so long haha
I listen to these songs to keep my ancestors alive, within me. I can't let my culture died. My Gran is half welsh, thus began another stage in my family of losing our identity. My father grew up speaking English. And I live in North America for the past nine years, so I know the affect English speakers have had on our planets' human cultures. I listen to these songs to keep myself alive. : ) While I live here, and listen to Indigenous Americans for our way of life, until I can return, if I return, to The Island off the coast of Europe.
Greetings my friend, a Berber appreciating Gaelic music feels strange but let me share an odd coincidence. Many sadly too many) years ago a family never shared a belief passed to him that Celts/Scots had some origins in the Maghreb and as it was prior to Arab interlopers then Berbers would be these people. I can't say I've come across any information to support this and it was only your greeting that brought it to mind. ' Thor an aire '
Questa musica è così evocativa e piacevole, per non parlare delle meraviglie del paesaggio irlandese e scozzese! E il gaelico, insieme al portoghese è la lingua più musicale di tutte!
Great stuff, altogether. Brilliant idea perfectly executed. Never heard Gaelic sean nós before -plenty of Scots lilting though (but not enough). Just as I never imagined it could be. And 2 whistles in unison, and practised! C'mon lads, seriously? I'd let ye look after my child.
Its a fantastic language, and I say that even if my primary langauge, italian, is very melodic. But also Gaelic is really charming, even compared to Italian!

Lyrics to Muireann’s part, set to “Rocky Road to Dublin” melody, with song called “An Bairille” (lit. ‘The barrel’). It’s definitely a drinking song. _Seo, haon tí rí tí ro, haon tí ro tí a reacaire_ _Haon tí rí tí ro, is cuir ar a thóin a’bhairille_ _Chuirfinn dhá thóin, dhá thóin_ _Chuirfinn dhá thóin ar dhá bhairille_ _Chuirfinn dhá thóin, dhá thóin_ _Dhá ghloine ar a mbord ‘s dhá chnagaire_ _Chuirfinn trí thóin, trí thóin_ _Chuirfinn trí thóin ar trí bhairille_ _Chuirfinn trí thóin, trí thóin_ _Trí ghloine ar a mbord ‘s trí chnagaire_ _A dhuine bí ciúin go fóill, éist le glór an tseanfhocail_ _Seachain na mná ‘s an t-ól, is seachain go deo na bearta seo_ _Chuirfinn ceithre thóin, ceithre thóin_ _Chuirfinn ceithre thóin ar ceithre bhairille_ _Chuirfinn ceithre thóin, ceithre thóin_ _Ceithre ghloine ar a mbord ‘s ceithre chnagaire_ _A dhuine bí ciúin go fóill, éist le glór an tseanfhocail_ _Seachain na mná ‘s an t-ól, is seachain go deo na bearta seo_ Chuirfinn cúig thóin, cúig thóin_ _Chuirfinn cúig thóin ar cúig bhairille_ _Chuirfinn cúig thóin, cúig thóin_ _Cúig ghloine ar a mbord ‘s cúig chnagaire_ _A dhuine bí ciúin go fóill, éist le glór an tseanfhocail_ _Seachain na mná ‘s an t-ól, is seachain go deo na bearta seo_
THIS is music, welcome to Gaelic culture. Julie Fowlis is amazing and to see her perform with Muireann is divine
These 2 wonderful ladies have worked together for years. The talent on show is exquisite and the singing is sublime. But to also be such accomplished musicians as well is just absolutely stunning. Just shows that Scottish and Irish Gaelic music is supreme.
The precise soprano of Julie, then the warm alto of Muireann. Intoxicating! 'S math sin!
These woman have amazing vocal control as well as beautiful voices. I love listening to them.
Yes vocal control, something most pop singers lack.
The part where you see they can both play tin whistle together makes me so happy!
I never get tired of listening to this performance. The songs reach deep inside me and stir the Scottish and Irish blood that flows in my veins.
before listening this
*chan eil mi toilichte*
listening this
*Tha mi gu math an-nis*
thanks! Slainte!
Makes me want to walk on that rocky road to Dublin.XD
Pop singers use auto tune, these classy women use raw talent.

This restores my faith in humanity it's really nice to see that this music is alive and well
Can’t understand a word never the less I am totally smitten with these two talented and lovely ladies!
Muireann has such a liquid voice......ands she's pretty handy with a flute and whistle as well.
That is just such a great piece of music....love it right down to the last low note on the tin whistle. Well done girls!! (and guys!!) It gets me every time I listen.

Two very talented ladies!

I just loved this Gaelic music. It was so wonderful.
I can’t understand more than a few words but I love Gaelic languages, Irish, Scots Gaelic, Breton, welsh. I haven’t heard Cornish or Manx.
Brilliant live god bless you girls , keeping our traditions alive 🏴❤️🏴❤️🏴❤️🏴❤️
The words skip across the verse like flat rocks across a pond... Just beautiful!
I just came across Julie Fowis recently on you tube! Love her voice! I have tried to start a Julie Fowlis radio station on iHeartRadio, but I just get a few of her songs & the rest go to other artists that I’m not interested in!

I like that, simply.

I can't understand a word of this but I really enjoy it anyway. God Bless from the U.S from a Scots Irish American.
Words fail me - but the music sure doesn't. WOW!
The more i watch this the better it gets.
My word. Phenomenal.
I swear to God. I don't care what anyone says after they're done, but just don't anybody interrupt them while they're doing that. Bravissimo.

Greetings from Ireland Salamat
One of my favourite, I listen it often
I wish that I could understand Gaelic, I am glad that someone is keeping the tradition of the Scott's alive.
SCOTS, not "Scott's"
I listen to these songs to keep my ancestors alive, within me. I can't let my culture died. My Gran is half welsh, thus began another stage in my family of losing our identity. They are just awsome. Love them both :) As a singer I love them so much.
I got a bit of Gàidhlig from back home in NS... it's a language and a culture that need to be preserved and lived!

Is Gaelic the most beautiful musical language on the planet?
Its a fantastic language, and I say that even if my primary langauge, italian, is very melodic. But also Gaelic is really charming, even compared to Italian!
