You're like the Bob Ross of drums. Soothing and laid back. I can just imagine you saying, "Here we have some happy little skank beats. It's your song. Where does your skank beat live?"
I fucked up! When I break the solo into sections, the second section goes like this: sskkttkkttssttsksksksssskkttttkkttkksskk Regardless, I play it correctly up to speed and slowed down in it's entirety throughout.
+Josh Steffen It honestly amazes me how you are able to play something slower and then even while omitting a limb. That is a symptom of some true talent if I do say so my self. Lots of control.
I have a feeling that the best drummers are the ones that say "I dont care if thats how you're supposed to do it", they do it their way and it works better them
Slipknot-Metabolic and Chic N Stu by SOAD would be my suggestions. I've commented on videos before but you're a fantastic drummer and huge inspiration. The only UA-cam channel I watch religiously so to speak haha.
yo, Josh! Honestly, I think I'm your bigger fan! Your the best youtube's drummer! your the god off drummers! I'm 14 years old, I play drum since 6 years, and I really love you guy!
+Josh Steffen it's awesome that you break these songs down especially aov from slipknot I couldn't figure out how he was doing the intro but now I know thanks. You are awesome to watch I hope I get to your level one day!
Fucking awesome man! Thanks for another great upload. One thing that might be great is to map out one of your medleys and break down each part, since from what I've seen you really take the parts you love most that fit well together. Not sure about feasibility, it just sounds cool (at least to me haha)
The thin line between love and hate by iron maiden. I love your maiden covers, keep up the great work! "Where dark and light don't differ" by Immortal. Dunno if you're into any black metal or not, but it's a great song and would be awesome to see a cover of it!
Only just come across this video. It’s awesome. Exactly what I needed, helps with a few other songs too as it happens 👍🏻 love your attitude aswell, I often use my double pedal to save some energy toward the end of a gig. Or just when I feel like it to be honest. Thanks 🤘🏻
Awesome Josh, I know you don't do much LOG but at the end of the song Straight for the sun into Desolation has a pretty cool drum solo that would be cool to see you figure out and do a tutorial. Just a suggestion thanks man!!!!
Some man Josh 👍 bought my 5 year old a pretty decent electric kit for a hobby in the house. Played drums a little when I was younger. Now I'm never off the thing. I ended up getting a good price on an iron cobra double pedal and I listen to your drum covers in the car just because it sounds better. Anyway really wanted to have a go at people = shit. No where near good at it but this tutorial is definitely helping a lot. Cheers
+Mark Bocanegra Glad it didn't offend. I love Morbid Angel. I guess the death metal fucks i'm referring to are the ones who talk shit on sickdrummermagazine's videos about moeller techniques and shit. Those typ'a fucks. ;)
+Josh Steffen I love metal, even most of the sub-genera. I am not closed minded like most people. You as Josh Steffen not Joey or anyone else. I hate fucking fan boys that talk shit. Take care, man \m/
hey man, like you said, no huge deal to play the blast with quarter notes on the hats, but you can clearly do it well enough on the china using your right hand! maybe swing that right hand over to the hats and playing the blast like that? another great video too, you've got serious skills!
Your blast beats are pretty good and personally I think faster bomb blast and hammer blast sound better with quarter notes on the hi hat. Also makes it easier for the guitarist to follow
Thanks for the great tutorial Josh. Can you please make one for the Lamb of God - Shoulder of Your God intro? I'm struggling to figure out and count the notes between 0:30-0:40
You see for the intro blasts I do the same blast beats all three times except the first two parts I play closer to the snare so it sounds slower and quieter. Then for the initial third blast beat I am still doing the same thing but I play a combo of finger and wrist technique so it brings the stick higher and it hits harder. All with my right hand so I’m definitely going to get tendonitis and arthritis xD
really helpful vid, sometimes I prefer it when people interpret covers in their own way, adds your own stamp. for example I was listening to a live version on Blind by Korn and it was with Ray Luzier and he adds so much of his own into it, really gives the some more energy. love it though, keep up the amazing drum vids
+Josh Steffen They had to grow to accept it. They were like "well he could suck or be a beginner". You probably made the wife into a covert metalhead hiding from her husband but blasting it on the way to work lol. Life is funny like that!
+XxCHRISchaosxX It would be shitty if he was some kid just starting out. There's some kid starting to play the TRUMPET down the way from me. He likes to practice with his window OPEN too. LOL! It could be a lot worse.
I learned how to play in a small town downtown condo. One day I ran into a lady at a gas station and she asked me if I was the one playing drums. So now I live in the suburbs and none has said anything. My nextdoor neighbor lied to me and told me they can't hear anything. I don't play past 7pm helps.
Why the switch to Pearl Eliminator from Iron Cobras? Have you tried Demon Drives? If so, what do you think about them compared to the standard eliminator? I have demon drives but ready for something new...
is there anything iam doing wrong? iam drumming for about 14 years now and still cant get those double bass single strokes that fast in the intro.. any tips?
I have a problem. I have DW 3000 double bass pedals and my left pedal decays faster than my right one. as in, when I pull back both at the same time, the left one stops swinging faster than the right. I've tried messing with all the tensions and angles of the beaters and it never fixes the problem. what should I do?
It's cool that you make some tutorials. It adds variety to your channel and I believe that it also allows you to earn some money. It's all great, keep it up ;)
You're like the Bob Ross of drums. Soothing and laid back. I can just imagine you saying, "Here we have some happy little skank beats. It's your song. Where does your skank beat live?"
+Mourning Pyre Haaa I see you were watching some Bob on twitch. Am I right ?

Josh Steffen lmao I noticed that
Please do eyeless Josh.
he already did it
+sonny krauze I meant a tutorial =)
+blur hit the settings button and you can slow down the video for eyeless
The Drum Professor did a tutorial on Eyeless if u want...
I'd love to see a eyeless intro tutorial because every YT-drummer has got his own version of it. Even Joey played different versions live
Sloppy?! For a drummer maybe, but for a guitarist you´re a master :)
I have been trying to figure out this middle fills for years. Thank you so, so much.
Glad i could help.
@@joshsteffenno like actually though, someone who really took the time to teach us this masterpiece. Thank you❤❤❤
@@SlipknotGlazer515 ;)
@@joshsteffen I’ve been watching you’re vids forever now haha, they are crazy good bro❤️
HOLY SHIT!!! I never noticed the extra snare hits before you start hitting the china, in the middle section. Awesome job dude!
0:07 Intro normal speed
1:45 Intro slow speed
3:12 Bridge normal speed
3:35 Bridge slow speed
4:05 Bridge one hand
This Dude just tells it the way it fuckin is. Use what you got . You Tube needs more people like you. Kick ass video, keep em up! And Thanks
+Don Shires thank you man. ;)
I have a feeling that the best drummers are the ones that say "I dont care if thats how you're supposed to do it", they do it their way and it works better them
Totally agree

Thanks Hugo! I'm glad to hear that.
Bro is all grown up 😢
Thanks Josh Ross! =)
00:06:50 “just another little joeyism” RIP Joey Jordison
I think what you do is awsome on this song. I like the way you play the fills.. I liked it very much!🤘 Thank's for sharing this with us.🤘🤘
Sloppy my ass that was awesome
Didn't seem too bad. I'm less critical when it comes to these tutorials.
+Josh Steffen it's awesome that you break these songs down especially aov from slipknot I couldn't figure out how he was doing the intro but now I know thanks. You are awesome to watch I hope I get to your level one day!
+drummer7274 Keep going dude. You'll be able to kick my ass one day.

Haha, I love how amazed you seemed by Joey, and yeah, you're fucking right. He is a fuck, because he's too fucking good.
Josh! Please do Disasterpiece!

I just started playing the drums yesterday, and with Josh's help, I still can't play the drums.
Really that cool you take the time to do such videos. Keep going
I love your style and your attitude ! Brilliant - sounds great though
Awesome Josh, I know you don't do much LOG but at the end of the song Straight for the sun into Desolation has a pretty cool drum solo that would be cool to see you figure out and do a tutorial. Just a suggestion thanks man!!!!

I love death metal but I laughed so fucking hard when you said "all you death metal fucks"
+Mark Bocanegra Glad it didn't offend. I love Morbid Angel. I guess the death metal fucks i'm referring to are the ones who talk shit on sickdrummermagazine's videos about moeller techniques and shit. Those typ'a fucks. ;)
+Josh Steffen P.S. also the type who claim Slipknot isn't metal, so those fucks probably won't even see this anyway.
+Josh Steffen Too many typ'o fucks in the world, not enough time to count em.
+Josh Steffen Metal elitist in general are annoying as fuck.
+Josh Steffen I love metal, even most of the sub-genera. I am not closed minded like most people. You as Josh Steffen not Joey or anyone else. I hate fucking fan boys that talk shit. Take care, man \m/

thanks, I was directed here from the actual video and imam say, this helped alot

it would be awesome to see innervision from soad
(i know you dont have the actual cover in your channel but... still would be awesome)
Would Slipknots Liberate be an idea? Especially for the verse part and maybe the part after the last verse, even though its a pretty complicated part.
Your blast beats are pretty good and personally I think faster bomb blast and hammer blast sound better with quarter notes on the hi hat. Also makes it easier for the guitarist to follow
Man I watched your video I was blown away I just wanted to tell you good job on it!!!! Not this video but the other one
Man u make it look so easy... Like nothing. But this gotta be frustrating for some of us... Fr

Hey josh, have you ever thought about doing a drum cover on a D.R.I song?or maybe cro-mags?

Thanks for the great tutorial Josh. Can you please make one for the Lamb of God - Shoulder of Your God intro? I'm struggling to figure out and count the notes between 0:30-0:40

Be awesome to see a cover of the 2002 live version. Little different, just as badass
dude double foot pedals are godly
Pleae do a Jordison primer. O. Essential techniques to playing his parts. Thanks.

Not anymore. When I first started out yeah.

Never used the demon drive. I have a review coming for the Eliminator. Great pedal.
Will you be doing Three Nil sometime?
The fill at 8:39 sounded like the vendetta intro :)
is there anything iam doing wrong? iam drumming for about 14 years now and still cant get those double bass single strokes that fast in the intro.. any tips?
Can you do DEATH symbolic
I have a problem. I meant beaters not pedals
If you have $400, buy an Pearl Eliminator PowerShifter. Left pedal lameness led me to getting it.
+Josh Steffen thanks man!
valeu Cara muito bom esse tutorial.continua fazendo esse trabalho foda.
excellent quality
Josh el mejor
Excellent. Thanks.
Josh: I'll do it one more time, slow...'
Proceeds to play at same speed as before....
😉
You're awesome, bro. Can you please do "Digital World" by Amaranthe?
Fuckin hell bro you killed this shit 🥁🔥
you should add ralenty in some circumstances and your tutorials would be perfect to understand; it would give a better vision of the song in question.
4:30 i play it this way because i don't have double bass lol
Very Good!!
thank you
My suggestion got a vid!! Yaayy
Do you have any advice on building up speed? Because I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do blasts and such
+Meme Lord me too. Thus talking shit about the death metal fucks. just don't get discouraged at first. My legs relax after 30 minutes of failure.
I hope you'll make many songs of Avenged Sevenfold (all albums, except the last one)
You're the best!
Did nightmare today.
but you alreay did it right?
I mean a tutorial. But yes, I did.
oh ok nice! yes i meaned playing new songs, not tutorial! \m/
+Josh Steffen Hope you make a cover of an old A7x song like Blinded in chains, Chapter Four or Darkness Surrounding. Huge fan ;)
