We are getting somewhere, and it's good for Africa!
There are many Nigerians with English / non-Nigerian surnames. Some of them are descendants of once enslaved people that returned to Nigeria after they regained their freedom while others just decided to change their surname for reasons best known to them.
If you want to see more of the European/Christian names, you'll find them more in the Niger Delta region, especially in states like Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and to an extent in Lagos state as well. The majority of the families in the video are either Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa, besides the Briggs family that is Ijaw and the Igbinedion that are Benin(Aka Edo). The reason why some old families have English names is cause some of them were given those name by their Colonial masters, most times because the colonialist couldn't pronounce the native names. In Cross River and Akwa Ibom for example, some natives names have taken on different pronunciations and spellings because the colonial masters pronounced them that way.... Abasi for example became Bassey. Sometimes slaves bore their owners names... Horsfall, Briggs, etc. Other times they were given by their masters or in honour of their masters. Wonderful
They are selectively giving people fish or mostly transactionally. but they won't tell you how to fish.
Rich people with explainable sources. Some tribe brag out being the richest but they dont top the list. Empty barrels make the loudest noise.
The couple is now the president of Nigeria
Illegitimate president who robbed Nigerian people's mandate in a broad daylight. He's a civilian coupist. Nigerians didn't vote for him. He captured the country by buying the corrupt government instuitions.
So, sit this one out.
Those English or Spanish/Portuguese sounding names; Jones, Briggs, Johnson, Benson, Thomas, Santos, Fernandez, etc are quite common in Nigeria especiallybwith Edos and Yorubas. However, the shocking part is majority of them are offsprings of Black Americans, Black Britons and other Afro Latinos mostly Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica etc whose ancestors in millions relocated back to Nigeria and otherbparts of West Africa pre and post slavery. Another name worth of mentioning is Fela Kuti. His mother's maternal great grand mother and great grandfather were Afro Brazilians/Afro Cuba who relocated back to Nigeria as well. Truly appreciate y'all work and much love to you, family🙌🏾🥂
