the 36 doesn't need the headlight on, it's not a requirement during the day
You'll be surprised to know that the horn fitted to the locomotive at 8:02 is actually an American made and designed Nathan Airchime K5UL-AU-LS. It is a variant of the K5LA designed specifically for the Australian market.
I'd doubt it. They'd be illegal, too.

Incorrect! Not a Nathan Airchime horn at all! The NR class locomotive is fitted with Swedish made Kockum Sonics MKT-75 5 chime horns. The horns have thermoplastic bell constructions and are very fragile and considerably unreliable. When the NR classes were first introduced to service, the horns were ridiculously loud, and shortly afterwards, air restrictors were fitted into the base of the horns to quieten them down. Personally, I do not like them as they sound sharp and unpleasant.
The "Nathan K5LA" counterpart horn you mention is not fitted to NR class locomotives. It is the Nathan Airchime K5UL-AU-LS. 'UL' meaning Ultra Low manifold, or "tomato stick" manifold as us horn collectors like to call them. 'AU' denote Australian market. 'LS' denotes "Low Sound" as the horn has two air inlets. One feeds air to a single chime which acts as the "urban quiet horn" whilst the other port supplies air to the remaining chimes as the "country" "main warning" horn. The K5UL-AU-LS is fitted to all modern locomotives entering service here in Australia. It is designed the mimick and play the same notes as the older inferior Kockum MKT-75's on the NR class.

Yes the Nathan K5UL-AU-LS was designed and tuned by Nathan Airchime in the USA to play similar notes to the Kockum horns mounted on the NR class locomotives. Yes it is an American made variation of the K5LA for the Australian market.

Luis P Nathan K5UL-AU-LS. A Nathan 5 chime air horn created by Nathan but fitter to UGL’S C44aci’s and C44acHi’s. They also added them to GL’S and CM’s I believe. But I’m not sure on those two.
