Congrats on the bull! Great video as well. I like how you don’t sugar coat anything, hunting is tough and I think most guys can relate to your content. Keep them coming!
Great job again Jay! Thanks for the vulnerability in the video. This shit is mentally challenging sometimes and not a lot of people show that in their films. They might show the physical challenge and how that is draining but the mind is 10X more challenging to control when those negative thoughts show up.
Congratulations man. Elk hunting is an extremely humbling experience. Some of the biggest highs and lowest of lows of emotion. The elk nut has an amazing app that is all about calls and he explains how to make them and when to use them. Awesome video good for you! Keep on grind man!
Fantastic work as always Jay! I love how you keep it real while so many others try curating a flawless image. Quick note: you can rotate your peep at full draw using your mouth. Not a trick I would advise for every day shooting but, when at full draw on an animal it can come in pretty handy.
Great video, great job on your determination and success! I blew a stalk on a really great Muley in Utah this year because my rangefinder was set too bright and there was 10 minutes of shooting light and was bloomed out, I estimate he was 45-50 yards but couldn’t get a solid range and let him walk ugh. But I’ve got two more tags so ready to roll!
Heck yeah man, nice bull! Im not able to get out this year as my apprenticeship schooling got in the way, definatly will be out for 2 weeks next year. Im glad you are okay! I hope your knee heals up quick!
Really appreciate the honesty about how mentally tough it is. Also really like the comment about hunting with others who are better than you and growing from there experience, and showing gratitude for that knowledge.
Love the rawness and excitement and that you were absolutely jacked when at full draw, and then at recovery the emotional relief that comes over you is the real deal! Nice video keep up the great work.
Hell ya brother bad ass film yet again! Always quite enjoy watching your hunt films definitely brings a fresh perspective to the hunting community! And was a real sweet hunt, definitely great watching the grind day in and day out, nothing like putting in the work and having it pay off, 2 years and 2 solid 5 points can't complain about that one bit! Hopefully you have a great hunt on your next trip this fall👌
Just finding your channel brotha and I love the filming style. You covered this journey so well and it kept me reeled in. Congratulations on the tags filled.
Great video and thanks for keeping it real! My wife and I are more inspired by your honesty in this film than others who just film canned hunts. Out of curiosity, do you have any concerns with Grizzly encounters? We carry bear spray along with our rifles, but if I did an elk or moose archery hunt, I’m curious how you prepare for it if it does happen
The amount of effort you put in to not only hunting but capturing and recapping your hunts is truly impressive. Awesome job this year and congratulations on the meat in the freezer.
Hahaha just noticed your Rockin the Kuiu Bino Harness when u killed your Bull !! That’s gotta add some points for the comparison. Congrats Jay well earned and awesome job by the fellas.
Congrats bud. Hope the knee heals quick and nothing serious. Always enjoy the films. Ill bet thats nice to hike out to the 4 wheeler at the end of the day and then ride back to the truck....LOL. I think those elk were in there, but spread way out. A missing piece to this film is "Did anything come back to the Wallows you put the trail cams on?
@@MindfulHunter thats cool. You running lithium batteries? Ive got 1 cam that has been in the MTNS of New Mexico in 36 that is still taking pics after a year...those batteries help with longer life. Seeing a few smaller bulls on it, (cellular cam) but no monsters yet. We were up there in Ruidoso over the weekend on the bike. Seen a few good elk being pulled out.
@@rbljackson yea when I know I’m gonna leave them I use lithium for sure. Hey quick questions. Ever been to unit 30 for deer? I pulled and archery elk tag Jan 1-15. Or Colorado 77 for deer or elk? Heading there for second rifle end of Oct.
Tough break on the knee but glad you got the elk. - the new cook system… do you notice it using more fuel? (Can only assume it would since it’s not insulated or have the heating fins on the bottom like the jetboil) - is the quad worth it? (I assume it is, I just worry about breakdowns… and now accidents.)
congrats on the bull. Injury will give you time to focus on new or neglected areas. Here's a quote I like - seek not the goal, but the man that it would take to achieve it.
Practice with your diaphragm and your calls will start to sound better, try saying grr at the start of your bugle and you’ll get that raspy sound. The more realistic your bugle sounds the better your odds are. I couldn’t even make a sound 2 years ago but then I started practicing on my to work and on my way home. Congrats on the bull! Way to stick with it most people would’ve gave up. Great camera footage/quality, what cameras do you use?
Sorry, I commented before the end of the video where you talked about practicing. Calling with a diaphragm definitely isn’t easy or else everyone would do it. Congrats again!!
What a beautiful hunt! Have you ever considered doing a film that has no background music? Loves the shots of just hearing the leaves crunching as you walk.

What coffee do you use and do you use additives to your drinking water?

My pleasure man. Appreciate the feedback.
Fantastic film Jay! Its so great to see fellow hunters coming together to share knowledge and bush time with 1 common goal.
💯

Already installed! Started getting into it on the drive home. Looks awesome.
Huge congrats man! Couple solid partners right there! Excellent work from hunt to film!

Awesome film! I like that you take the time to truly take the audience through the hunt with you and the way you do so.
Thank you!

Congrats and great film!! You mentioned indecision, which reminded me of a saying we had in the army: Even a bad decision is better than no decision.
Great way to put it!

Can't wait to hear the follow up podcast about this too, great hunt and video story!
Gonna try and record that tomorrow. Been slammed since I got home.

Same. Just carry bear spray when I’m worried.
Awesome film. Really appreciate the mental aspect of it. It can get tough out there when things don’t happen like you want them too.

Great film man. Well done and congrats again on the bull. 👏👏 11 months to practice those calls!

Congrats Jay. That's a huge result. Probably something to be said for hunting in that thick timber. Anything to increase the odds.
Definitely want to target the dark timber up here. And thank you!

Surprisingly happy with it. Few issues but nothing major. Review posted end of season.

Nice work. Time for a new string!
Strings almost brand new. After it settled I should have put a half twist back in it. I will be fore next hunt. And thank you 🙏

Tough break on the knee but glad you got the elk.

Yes new system uses more fuel. My guess is 30%. Need to test it. And 100% the quad is worth it. Busted knee and all lol

Good stuff. Sucks about the quad wreck.
Thx!

My number one priority this off season is calling practice. Agree 100%. I use three camera. Sony A1, GoPro 11, Insta360 x3

What a beautiful hunt! Have you ever considered doing a film that has no background music? Loves the shots of just hearing the leaves crunching as you walk.
It’s a great point. I do struggle with how much music to add each time.
Sure would love to try some bear meat.
