Hate? I'm completely left speechless by your experience, expertise, and your amazing set of tools. I took a laptop to a repair shop and he said, "water damage, can't fix, buy a new one." You, by sharp contrast, actually FIX most of the damaged motherboards, whether it's water, coke, wine, or a shorted cap or chip. You do the REAL job. I'm beyond impressed.
That's because Sorin doesn't do laptop repairs, he does electronic repairs and there's a big difference 😎😎
I like how you give customer respect and encouragement for trying, plenty of other channels would give the customer a hard time.
Indeed proper advice!
With all the repairs vids online done by experienced techs - they make repairs look easy... so it's tempting to try it if you're a bit handy. Everyone has to start with something right? How hard can it be? 😳It's the best way to learn, just dive in & screw up, learn what not to do, 😤 it's all part of the process to figure out if this is something you enjoy or not. You don't see many videos of guys just starting out shorting things and doing sloppy soldering repairs but it's all part of the learning process. It takes tools, time, patience & practice.
Grateful to ALL experienced techs who take the time to provide us with videos of their repair experiences, videos are a time-consuming task to do. Doing so, helps to shorten the learning curve by a lot.👍
3:05 u win my heart here u r the best. Other technicians will say oh this guy opened the board we cant repair this and charge extra
I believe most techs will just order a new ic and never try to deal with so many bent pins. but for you it seems like a walk in the park...well done for doing the impossible again.
The bad thing is the video ends 😭😭😭. But i've received some positive messages in this video. Sorin your addictive.
When I found your channel ,I watched your videos all the way from the first one ,Thanks alot for everything you Taught us. From Iraqi
The client was right to entrust you with the expertise in my opinion because he took this precaution and he has surely learned his lesson now. It could be worse if he continued to try to fix it himself
Love the positive message. First HDMI ports I did were by eye, then checked with a jewellers loupe and re-touched until I got it right. You can see quite a lot with the eye or a simple magnifier particularly when it's wrong. With a good light, you can see if a QFN is off or if pins are bridged. Much easier with a scope though, haha.
A qfn has no pins but a qfp does have pins 👍🏻
@@myirepair7002 no shit. Didn't day they did, I just cba to write qfp in that sentence just to keep smart arses schtum. Both cases I mention are true. Qfn off, package with pins bridged.
Sorin, you never accept failure and you persist until the job is done that is the mark of a true professional and this is an fact as every job has its twists and turns....
This guy. I love his channel. Not sure why he wants to help people and love the way he encourages ppl to try. Why he is not just concerned with making his own living or charging people but he really wants to help you and I do this our self. I can’t try yet because nothing is broken. But I think I’ll buy some broken laptops for practice. This is one of my favorite channels
Sorin, you are "Proper" professional. Paul, USA!
Thank you Sorin for the lifelong learning. You cannot please all but your true followers know you are a proper calibrated technician and rest assured we are very delighted with all your repairs bacause we always learn and take something away. On the other hand not all people can learn soldering as I have experienced this myself by teaching relatives and friends how to solder.
This is such great motivation. Ive been trying to repair a 90 pin connector a customer messed up for weeks now... Just keep trying!
you are so funny sorin , i love your positive attitude
Ok, then I will say it... after doing electronics for over 50 years as a hobby, what I can say is that you are doing a better job at explaining what precisely you are looking for than some creators who in reality are pushing their online shop and make it look like if you buy their gear, you will be an expert in repairing microelectronics, just like that.
@26:35 "at some point, you will get bored of just watching perfect people doing perfect things" Thank you Sorin... truer words were never said
absolutely right 🤣in 35 years of electronics repair i blew up so many components... at some point you just start to look for nice shapes in the smoke clouds 🤣🤣🤣you are such a great guy and i love and enjoy your videos.
Btw. a tip for those guys out there without a microscope: try and experiment a little with a lense attached to a smartphone camera, you will be surprised 👍
Even on the mechanic side I've learned more things messing up as doing it right. Seeing success videos all the time is good for learning but there's not a lot of people covering what goes wrong so I'm with you on that brother
You are even more perfect, because you have test it in another way and found fault. And i learned another things. Thank you!
Great job Sorin. The person who said you weren't qualified needs to give their head a shake. Your sometimes innovative fixes save a lot of electronic devices from landfill and stop devious manufacturers from filching money from the unsuspecting public.
You seem very chilled Sorin. And such a great philosophy. Not only laptop lessons, but life lessons too.
Ai un mare respect din partea mea! Să încurajezi omul să își ducă treaba la bun sfârșit fara să trimită laptop-ul la tine, ești un om deosebit! Tot respectul!👏💪
You should also consider that the customer realised his or her lack of experience and knowledge, and made the decision to stop and hand it over to a pro before making more damage. That is also a good decision to make. I support your view though, keep trying til you master it, but maybe on an older laptop where it would't be a big deal if the repair fails miserably.
I love your videos, Sorin. I have learned a lot from you. It is nice to see you in action and listen to the way you analyse and reflect over the problem at hand. And I love your accent. "I don't believe", "I burned my finger, I never learn" (not from this video), that one made me laugh, because I do the same thing over and over again :)
Keep it up. Looking forward to more videos.
My story is that I do not have a microscope but i used my phone camera that has a micro camera. I fixed many laptops with it i fixed a raspberry pi power supply chip with the phone and cheap soldering iron 😁. Don't giveup people keep trying i buy broken laptops and train on them.
"Hate is a waste of time" Sir you are a true teacher!!
Master Sorin: (32:25 - 33:57) You were concentrating, thinking, analyzing, measuring but at (33:59 exactly) you decided to change the DDR RAM to the other slot and 15 seconds later you had an image on the screen.. My God, how can I explain this to myself? Excellent repair. A sincere congratulations. Thank you very much for sharing. All the best.
Hi sorin , please make a tutorial video how to choose a right and proper microscop.but not expensive one .thnx
Don't worry not being perfect, you do a pretty decent job. Better than most eletronic repairs technicians. In my job as an industrial maintenance technician sometimes we a lot of "unprofessional" repairs because our main focus it's to put the machine working as soon as possible and many times we just don't have a spare part to replace unless we order. Time = money. "Dodginess" it's part of this area so dont worry about others ppl opinions.
128 pins and you only missed 3, those are very good odds, your still the best of the best.
You are close to perfect, i think you did it on purpose, just to show people that you are not perfect. And people will hate because thats what some people do everyday. But that's their problem, but us , you are teaching electronics and people like me are learning a lot everyday. Greetings and smile.
23:00 that is extremely important for everyone to understand, it's very easy to demoralize yourself when everyone on UA-cam is so successful in their repairs, thank you for mentioning that.
i was wrong about you Mr
i wrote a comment on one of your videos that {you dont check other stuff on the board but the problem} 😅😅but i was super wrong {SORRY} YOU ARE MORE THAN A PRO *FOR REAL*
NOW IM ONE OF YOUR SUBS AND FANS KEEP GOING MY FELLOW COWORKER ☺
Hi Sorin :D
So, you and I know that you can redo soldering many times if you dont get it right the first time, but folks with little experience and knowledge dont always get that, and maybe they have seen when folks do a horrific job, that you and I have spent way too much time repairing, and just dont want to be that guy.
I bet the guy that sent this is, will learn a hell of a lot and totally worth what it cost him to hire you.
I used to do this work in a factory without using a microscope (Ive used microscopes for soldering, but we didnt need it for this) Sometimes we would use a magnify lamp thing, but this stuff is easy to do with hot air, flux, and a little tappy-tap-tap, and its perfectly aligned like magic
The truth is, you should never give up, I try everything, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, I have changed the chipset at least 4-5 times on motherboards and I have never succeeded, but our teacher Sorin showed a smart way that you should heat from the bottom and today I have one such case ACER NITRO FOR WHICH I ORDERED CHIPSET SR40B and I hope that this time the operation will really be successful
41:45 You are professional.
Top job Sorin, as usual I learn more each time I see your videos.
Very nice work Mr Sorin sometimesnit happen after you fix one problem another one comes out,🎉 what a surprize
Hi Sorin, the screen connector pins are not fine at 48:28 you will notice a dot exactly at the middle of the connector the pin below it to the left moved when you were checking, but I think it dug into the solder and made connections and by the way I like very much the way you encouraged the owner 👍
Thank you for your lesson. Really encouraging. I too have a Lenovo to deal with. I just need the right tools
i just want to tell you something. youre really a master tech and i love all of your videos 😊😊
being this good at something and still being humble as you are... that's so rare these days... best of luck Sorin! btw: i couldn't help but notice that your name is really common among Romanian people... do you have Romanian roots?
Yes, he's from Romania. He talks about that in other videos discussing his "State" provided electronic training in Romania. .
NOT QUALIFIED? hey if you can fix 99 of a 100 laptops you are an EXPERT!. I'm not great in electronics but I can fix stuff. Fixing stuff is like a drug, I see it with you and Northridgefix. I watch you guys recreational. maybe one day I fix a laptop myself. I found most faults are less hard then it looks.
Northridgefix is a proper scam.. charging a lot does simple fixes and can't or will solve complex problems.. Stay away from that channel.
I would say sometimes the problem is the internet. When you ask a question somewhere and everybody says it's too hard and to just send it to you. It kills the motivation to repair it yourself
50:43 I had few cases like that and I fixed it.
Take out the screen, put it on the table, remove black tape, unscrew the lcd's motherboard, filp it. put the metal plate under that board (to achieve / keep the same level with screen to avoid flex cable tension, and to provide quick heat absorption) then use flux and do a proper reflow of each IC chip, which is smd soldered or has solderballs.
@Radek S: Yeah. Totally agree with your suggestion. If possible I would try to attach small pieces of double sided tape to the bottom inside of that front plastic bezel. Obviously if I have another Panel and another similar screen connector cable at hand (they mention some Dell & HP models but I would have to check personally by comparing part and manufacturer numbers). I'm used to seeing cracked TV screens. All the best.
Great Videos, When I get a Laptop with no Hard disc drive ,I use a Linux usb Boot drive ,I can then test every thing on the laptop, its also handy for fault finding such as if a customer says their webCam or sound or even wifi is not working but when Boot it from a linux USB drive IT IS working then its their windows that's at fault and will need to be reloaded.
Excellent conversation today Sorin, Thank You!
Customer did right ! Try, done. So respect for that. Then to avoid worse sent to expert, totally get that. ( otherwise you get burned by the repair shop )
Considering the customer doesn't own a microscope, they did a fairly decent attempt. They should really consider, even a cheap one off Amazon or eBay for around £50-£60, the difference it makes it unbelievable.
What i find surprising having done a brief job in electronic education some years ago is that there seems to be no obsession with static grounding or heat sinks to avoid frying the semiconductors these days, things have changed!
PS since I had cataract operations whilst I have perfect distance vision I now have to reach for magnifying glasses etc every time I want to attempt any fine work which is so frustrating!
Usually the problem with the display comes when someone out some pressure on the back side of the laptop. When caring it in a bag or else. This way of the connector get little bend, or the COF connections go bad. That is why when you push it in front it changes.
*You are GREAT teacher Sorin!*
Always learn something new. Great tutorials.
We had a pin straightener for those type of ICs. Because, we had to rework many in little time.
As always, great video !
We had to use an exact knife to straighten and align the pins for soldering. We never had paste or liquid flux. Bad mistake.
Some people who live near the sea usually will have issues with their monitor connector due to high humidity. I have experience with this kind of job i was investigating for an hour about the monitor not coming on. I realized there is a small salt deposit on the connector. So cleaning is important believe me.
Great job and lessons again. Than you
3:58 I went out of fullscreen to give you a like, but I realized I already did...
Sorin you are really a nice guy
btw I was laughting so hard in the video where you said "proper calibrated fuse" because I knew whats gonna happen :D
I hear you and respect your instruction ...my need is also hardware...the right tools butthanks and respect from me South Africa
great job you got lots of patience sorin...hopefully someone can design and make a template to straighten pins in this sort of situation before you start soldering ...
My friend you have a bridge between pins, you can see it clearly on 39.37
Sometimes it's best to stop and have you fix it.
Top video , like always. But can do without microscope as well , I too don't have and I use 15 quid from Amazon magnifying glasses but is good only if you do occasionally that job, non for repair shop
Great video, i noticed that you always mention testing when you don't have a customer's hard drive, you can make a bootable linux usb and test with the live envirenment, you can test everyhing wihtout a hard drive
Yes I remember this ...do you have schematics so I can make one
I'm not a professional, but when I upgraded a Thinkpad X270 with a FHD screen I had an issue of intermittent connection on the display. The only way to fix it was to replace the ribbon cable with a new one. I think the metal cable connector is linked to the internal wirings of the cable in a very fragile way and even if I was very careful, most probably the traction applied to disengage the latch might have damaged the thin wires. Possibly the original ribbon cable might have lost its flexibility due to aging.
39:33 here is a SHORT between two pins (look ABOVE tweezer - the short is on top of the legs/pins, close to i/o chip)
And don't tell me, it is not, because it is a short. You can see it also in 24:26 and 26:11
its how we see on display, but he can see better than us from that optical microscope
@@thankyou7741 - I have also microscope and what you said is true. But I also did a dozen of Super I/O replacement, and sometimes I had the same looking short (above pins, in the top area) so I know what I see here.
It can be flux, but I doubt because it is too shiny.
Definitely it was not a duck. I find these videos both useful and funny. Dodgyness is very amusing, a comedy. One can not be both Dodgy and serious at the same time.
Sorin, I think there was a moving pin on the screen connector, the one left of the middle dot, @48:28
Reworking on smd chip like this is heck of a job. The armatures should have a table magnifier for such jobs.
When the distributor packages these chips. Sometimes the pins get bent. I come from a time before hot air was used. We soldered the corners first. Hot air would have be much faster and easier.
You know the old saying - if at first you dont succeed, send it to Sorin!!
Good job mate 👍
But Sorin, checking every pin makes Jesus happy!
maybe the good idea... make a usb linux or windows for testing laptops... it is 30 minutes job .. stay well Sorin
The customer should use a mobile camera and a tripod and zooming capability to do the soldering job.
Thank you very much 🎉🎉
Take my like and help Sorin!!!
Awesome video as usual,
Don't worry Mr Sorin you are nearly perfect 👍✌
That was a nice try and without a microscope I think Sorin didn’t do it better 🤓
You need live WIN on flashdrive for such cases to test keyboards :)
5:54 there is also a bridge between 2 pins
Got to 24:28 thinking ohh hope he see's those bridged pins 15 and 16, if they were bridged. Hoping it's not something important :D
You should try with original charger I fixed same model and it was doing exactly the same when I was ready to give up just tried one more time with original charger and everything was smooth
Proper calibrated fuse
Hello Sorin I install Windows 10 into a drive an I use it to test notebooks or pc without reinstall it, only put the drive.
Great episode🙏💚🧡👍😵remember me how sometime repairing is like an Hospital!
Exacto knife and small tweezers to bend the pin spacing correctly. I’ve dealt with this many times. It’s irritating after a while. You have more patience.
To do full check use spare ssd or nvme drive with some Linux distro of choice to see if all function of computer works like sound, keyboards, mic, camera. Linux boots on almost any computer, not like Windows which seem be more hardware dependent.
Sorin, if you get a chance, can you please explain why some components are not necessary to replace? (e.g. capacitors, mosfets)
What temperature do you use to unsolder components like that chip?
41:46 pin four from the top.
Got same pc and the screen issue happend to me and you need to change it x)
Danke
i've watched youtube videos... and then tried.... :)
in my opinion it is absolutely fine to stop when it comes to a point which is out of your abilities, though. You know, possibility to rip the pads or even worse.
He should have tinned the traces first before placing the chip on the board. He should have straightened the pins to the traces before soldering.
Master Sorin. When did you change from lighter fluid to alcohol for cleaning? Guess I missed that one. Hopefully not a bad fire! Hehe. Have a great day my friend!
Hello, what temperature you using hot air to remove chip ?
Nice one 🎉🎉
