21:40 anyone saw the smoke come out when the probe touched the 5volt vdd pin with the 19v cap then after there was a reading 2.7 v?

I think one mosfets was shorted and the chip sense short and not drive power . The rest is story . Always check mosfets , voltage drop on gates etc. I love sorin work

Hello Sorin When the batery is discharged to 0% laptop is not powerig on on Intelsill 98xx.
This is normall., I fix this model few times.
I charging the baterry on power supply and laptop always is work .
I not removing any components 😊

😂😂 I think that the issue at the beginning was the mosfets
So what was the initial fault? Faulty mosfets around the intersil ISL95338 chip? or ISL plus mosfets...
Probably the mosfet at the end with the gate short was the only problem. But the gate short could have damaged the ISL as well. We will never know for sure 😅
So you see you fixed it and it means you are NOT OLD yet !:))
VDDP is the internal LDO and it should always be 5V ift should not drop below 2.7v and chip was shorted because on pin 16 and 17 is VIN so if your probe touch pin 17 and 18 it will pass 19 volts to pin 18 where it suppose to have 5 only. Also check pin 13 ADPS. Which is ACPRES pin in BQ directly coming from VIN through 2 resistors as a voltage divider pin 8 is VDDP should be 5v which is drive high side and low mosfet gates.
I suppose sometimes experience can get in the way of logical fault finding. Taking short cuts sometimes makes things take longer. MAYBE (not definitely) the fault was that third FET was shorted gate to source all along?

Hello Sorin, thanks your for educational videos. Would you be so kind to publish somewhere information about pinout of batteries you have to deal with like in this video (battery model, +/- pins, Clock/Data pins) for a reference to be used your viewers.
It can be a simple HTML table (Battery model, Positive, Negative, Clock, Data columns or may be a database LiteSQL/MySQL/MariaDB as backend).

Smoking flux from that resistor. As Sorin mentioned, he shorted the 19v rail to that 5v pin.
If you spot on, smoke came from PD4401 diode. You can clearly see the bottom of that diode roasting while smoke comes from the gap between PCB and diode. Maybe it became instantly shorted (or opened) but its function is not noticeable until the laptop starts to work in normal condition.
AT 25:55 I was tapping on the screen and yelling that the keyboard was unplugged, but you didn't hear me 🤓
I think your mind was confused for some reason from the beginning this time (Your wife didn't feed you well). The problem was the third MOSFET from the beginning, and I think the original IC was good

You are still using the WRONG DATASHEET, as in the last video of that kind. It's for the ISL95338, not the 9538... Let's see if you read the comments this time or if you'll make that mistake again.
