    You read my mind when you pulled that chip again to check it. You videos are among my favorite because you keep it real Sorin. People need to see reality, and they get that with your channel. Sometimes things don't go as expected. We are imperfect, and we can make mistakes. But we can sometimes recovery from our mistakes and still get satisfaction for job well done!

    next time you should waste an extra one minute to wick the pads on the board, and replace with low melt solder, you will even be able to lower the temperature to solder back!!

    Sorin, if the Asus laptop motherboard is similar to their desktop motherboards, after changing any components, the bios does an updating and training routine that takes a couple of minutes to complete. Thus the long black screen and update time.
    Also, the LED keyboard is programmable for visual effects.

    If you buy a chip and they are a good seller they clean it. And you have to solder the chip because there is a layer of oxidation from the cleaner. And it wil not bond with the solder. Iam happy you found it and get it working.

    Sorin, you need to clean the pads of the old solder first, prep pads with new solder before you solder the new chip in place. I have tried soldering these chips without doing this and they most times do not solder right and I only end up burning the chip trying to get it right. I never solder a QFN chip now without cleaning the pads first.

  • @Radek__
    @Radek__ Рік тому +2

    30:25 no Sorin, this time is not good. Right side, 4th pin from the top and one above right down corner.
    You added new solder to the middle of the big ground pads under the chip, which was good idea, BUT if so, then during the heating, you have to press down the chip UNTIL you see the big balls of solder coming out from the edges. You pushed it down very well BUT I didn't see these balls coming out, so it means that the solder under the chip were not proper melted (solder outside the chip were melted - yes, but not under the chip on the huge ground pad) You heated it not enough time. So you soldered it but it didn't sit down to flat completely - so some pins can be unsoldered.

    • @Radek__
      @Radek__ Рік тому +1

      @Mr Guru yes. I told him many times in the past when he solder high power mosfets. Maybe it is not because of me, but now he is doing it very well - always he is pusihing it down. Here on this video he also pushed that IC down- so he understand how it needs to be done, but this time it was not enough heat.

    1. So it seems it's not like those pesky undocummented realtek chips with "it's NDA" kind of support. TI says in the DS: "Initial device configuration is configured through a configuration bundle loaded onto the device DURING BOOT. The bundle may be loaded through I2C or SPI."
    However there is some kind of firmware GUI config tool.
    2. Aren't you afraid you'll melt some plastics under the board?

    • @davidlguerr
      @davidlguerr Рік тому +9

      It is not that. It's due to Sorin's bad habit of reusing existing unleaded solder. The proper way to do it is adding flux to the pads, tin the pads with leaded solder and then reflow the chip in place. If you just desolder the chip and try to use the remaining solder to do the job, things like that do happen alot.

The chip can be reprogram with any SPI/I2C programmer. The tools natively support FTDI, Aardvark and TIVA programmer.

Sometimes it works for hours on end with no issues, other times it will require a power button discharge before it turns on. Now as of yesterday (14.08.24) after 6 months of on and off use, it fails to power up at all, no power led. What do you think my options are? 🤔 Many thanks in advance!
