- Just a simple drive up the mountain to see my mom and dad in Little Switzerland, NC. I shot this with a GoPro Hero3 Black Edition at 48 frames per second, but I rendered the video out at 24 fps to hopefully up the quality of what you see. Featured in this video is the drive up Cox's Creek Mountain on Hwy 226, The Skyline Motor Inn, Lynn Gap, Big Lynn Lodge, The Switzerland Inn, Little Switzerland Store and Post Office, Bearwallow Gap Road, Crabtree Creek Road, Black Baptist Church and Deer Lick Gap.
Home when I was growing up in Spruce Pine. Still love that area so much. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember many times taking a very steep and windy road with lots of truck run offs and if memory serves my family called it Cox's Creek. The road your on looks like it. But I know it used to scare us as kids riding in the back of the station wagon. Thanks for the video nice to see that area again. Spent lots of my childhood all over that area and the Blue Ridge.
Went up there in 2016....rode the dragon and brpkwy...amazing
I have driven to little Switzerland several times. great place. looks like we are in the same area. I like your channel.
Beautiful video of a beautiful drive. I have driven it lots of times from Chapel Hill, stayed at the skyline many times! Mike is a.great host, and the view? Best ever!
Tony, Thanks for great quality video and great storytelling about your growing up in this top of the world mountain sanctuary. My mom and dad moved here somewhere around Spruce Pine around 1939 just before WW2. They moved from New York City and had a shoe store in Spruce Pine just across from the rail road tracks. You can imagine what a culture shock it was for them especially since they were Jewish! At our last stay at wonderful Big Lynn Lodge there was a Jewish waitress from Israel who lived nearby. Just goes to show how places like this attract people from all over the world for its unique beauty, charm and friendly people. Your family should be proud of being part of this well preserved, inviting community.
My home! Thank you for sharing what makes us great! And yes Switzerland cafe is amazing! I can speak from personal experience <3
Great video thanks for showing us this lovely part of the world. I look forward to driving that road when I visit.
Ah, Western North Carolina. God's Country. Nothing better!
You drove past the road I take to get to my home at
