- James O'Brien discusses David Cameron's recent warning not to show the same 'weakness' displayed to Adolf Hitler towards Russian leader Vladimir Putin and his insistence that the US provide aid to Ukraine.
James concludes that although the former Prime Minister was a 'catalyst for corruption' among the Conservatives, it is 'impressive' of him to urge the US to help Ukraine fight Putin.
Speaking alongside Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski before before he heads on to the Munich Security Conference in Germany this weekend, Cameron said not only Russia, but China and Iran were looking on to see if the West would stand by its promises.
“I see this as the challenge of our generation,” he said.

Ukraine didnt attack Russia before Russia invaded. I am not Pro-Israel, but comparing the ongoing conflict in Gaza to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine is ridiculous to anyone who understands history, politics or warfare. They aren't the same in scale, cause or even type of warfare.

The Ukrainian governing classes are pretty much all corrupt, no matter which side; and there are already millions unaccounted for with regards to the current one, when it comes to EU/NATO funding.
Ultimately, it's always the ordinary people who get (mis)led this way and that, and pay the highest price.

Not only is it an asinine comparison (not inaccurate so much as crude and doesn't really enlighten anyone to the issues) but *historical figures such as A.H and V.P don't appear in a vacuum, nor do they do everything alone.* There is an entire socioeconomic ecosystem that births, raises and brings them to power alongside others of their ilk and many who are too scared to speak out and thus, enable them. They are a product of their environments just as much as we are.
And what is our environment? Not too disimilar to the 'last time' - neolib cap. And we've been mired in it for decades which as it did in history, creates the perfect conditions for uh... unpleasant leaders and those who would follow them. Its happening all over again, and we let it happen. Not to mention, that is was inevitable anyway because all the issues that caused 'the first time around' were never fixed, only covered-up.
Have you watched the state owned media in ruzzia? Have you seen what their prime time political channels are peddling? Adolf had the british press behind him; supporting him, until they couldnt any longer. If the last 14 years have taught us nothing else it is I'm afraid to say that having been to any of the public schools in this country should instantly disqualify anybody from holding any public office be that as an MP or a civil servant. The privileged class in this country hold much of the blame for the state of this nation the idea that these people are for some reason better than the rest of society simply because they wear a certain school tie and because they inherited a position is completely unacceptable and completely archaic in the 21st century this holdover from the 19th century needs to end. Unfortunately people like james are in a very small minority of these public school boys and sadly do not, through their lack of arrogance and ability to view the facts of life from the point of view of the majority of people who were not brought up within the public school system, make a strong enough argument for the system to continue.

In this instance i think D Cameron is absolutely right. ( can’t believe i said that). With regard to Ben in Tel Aviv he needs locking up and sent to The Hague asap . The state the country is now in all began in 2016 with the self inflicted economic sanctions and continued in 2019 with the British public electing Boris Johnson to "get Brexit done" in the misguided belief they were somehow going to stick the boot into the EU. This was their chance to possibly reverse things by consigning the Tories to the history books forever, But the typical english superiority complex and stubbornness wouldn't allow that to happen. I don't need to go into the facts and figures because they are widely available but things are bad and are going to get horrendously worse for the UK. The fact is the EU 26 have not been particularly bothered about Britain since it voted to leave in 2016, Almost a decade ago. The EU has long since moved on while the british are still arguing about whether they should have left or not.
When my grandfather was alive, I asked him if Germany's invasion of Poland in 1939 surprised him. He told me, 'It was not a surprise at all. We knew that Germany was preparing for war.' Now we are in a similar situation, we know that Russia has shifted its economy into war mode. I sincerely hope that the analogy to the 1930s ends there.
Everyone knew that's why Cameron could mention talking about 1938. The only thing people didn't expect was that the UK& France wouldn't keep their promises. I know that part of history is shown differently in the UK than in Poland. But at the school at the history lessons we were always told that Britain and France haven't kept their promises and Poland was betrayed by them. That war could finish earlier /that maybe we would be in a better situation at the end if we didn't sign with Chamberlain in 1938. Even if you watch the Pianist there is a scene when they listen to the radio at the start of the movie full of hopes because of the speech of Chamberlain, because of guarantees of course later there was a big disappointment.
