I think they might be Redcaps, one of the Changeling Kiths in the World of Darkness. Their behaviour certainly fits Redcap stereotypes, as does their appearance with their mouths, the fact that they apparently ate a WHOLE BOOK, and can regurgitate and redrink stuff without issue. Redcaps are basically just WoD orks tbh.
The policeman is so damn scary, every scene he’s in just instantly fills me with quiet unspoken dread. He’s so calm and friendly, but it always feels like he could just go off and snap everyone’s necks at any given moment! The threat of violence is implicit. Just like a _real_ policeman!

Honestly until a fight breaks out that we can see unlike this episode involving him we won’t know if he’s the straightforward fighter or not. But given the face that Markus, Grimal, and Elise each fit well with one of the chaos gods themes then by pattern Harry likely has some Khorne themes in his personality. It would be weird for him to be the odd one out given how everyone else fits rather well.
The t'au warrior Shadowsun is just the reincarnation of a bri'ish fujo weeb lady who's long dead by the 41st mellinium. Grimal in her human life wanted to be reborn as a super cool, badass alien warrior chick in some anime battle suit and by the power of both causality and "warp fuckery" her wish was granted. Also Harry got reincarnated as a "gue'vesa" (still human..) worker who helps in basic logistics (basically hauling munitions and supplies), currently working under commander *Shadowsun-san* for another crucial military operation.
Due to how, from what I understand, the fact that those switchblades just spontaneously broke down right after Markus dissed Brok is part of a "School" of magic, and also due to who his original counterpart was.

Dude, I think Grimal is the first obnoxious weeb character I've ever seen that I actually like. I love that mix of gremlin weeb energy, and sincerity. And for some reason, the fact that the story is set in the early to mid-2000s when finding other people who liked anime was actually kinda rare makes me like her that much more.
I think the blacklaw situation helps a lot. Sure you get to see her genuine side a bit with how beat up Marckus is and all but she is still very gremlin weeb and it could be over the top. Specially with the biting. However when Blacklaw and his goons get in we get to see that she isn't all bark. She flat out uses that same energy to, break spit's ass, regularly punch and whack Git, and bite Blacklaw.

He's a nerd but not to the same degree as Markus and co, and with an Astartes build, much like the rank and file of the TS before they were dusted. We know they're all very familiar with manga and anime around that time which infamously includes Fullmetal Alchemist, so interring someone on the brink of death into a living suit of armor is an idea readily in their heads. Extra bonus points because Elise (who judging by visual design is likely meant to evoke Necrons, another type of soul trapped in a metal body) clearly has a thing for Harry.

@@thebohemian814 Imbued(and considering the Door showdown, it's all but guaranteed they're Imbued) are unique in that they outright ignore many supernatural properties, and weaken the rest. Non-Imbued hunters are at a heavy disadvantage in that they don't have the ability to drag down the supernatural to being on the scale of a regular human, BUT they also are not affected the The Drive, meaning that they are more likely to pick marks that they can actually deal with, and can spend a prolonged time waiting for the perfect opportunity compared to a merely adequate one.
I absolutely loved Chapman's timely intervention. Despite his implicit incompetence, he really has a certain charisma about him that makes him seem utterly in control of whatever situation he's in.

I love how we have not one, not two, but THREE tropey/stereotype characters in Markus' friend group and not one came off as annoying, truly an impressive feat. Anime was adorable, Chad Chadington was cool, and DoomNGloom was funny. Phenomenal writing and voice acting all around.
to be fair all three are real demographics you'll run into with any time in england. trick is just not to write the character as limited to just the trope. for eg most goths won't actually appreciate you being scared of death in their presence. some but nothing even remotely approaching all. that and they rather beautifully wove said tropes with their past tropes in tts for layered in joges which is awesome. ive probably still missed a few myself so off to work out who elise was before... well i suppose from their perspective it would be either trans-dimensional displacement or trans-probability translation depending on your viewpoint. have a nice day (if at all probabilisticly plausable, and speedy solutions to what ever might prevent that)
Grimal IS annoying but makes up for it by being sweet and knowing when to tone it back and show genuine concern for her friends, which makes her more endearing

That is a very legitimate complaint to have, and it's understandable (even if it's incorrect) that he focuses on that over his own mistakes that he can do only so much about.
I like Harry's character. He seems so "normal", that it overflows and becomes interesting. Plus, he seems fairly polite and, for the lack of better words, chill. Wait, found them! "Laid back", that's it. In further addition, he looks like he might carry a Tommy-gun and help other remember their lines even if he doesn't do this...
Harry is currently my favorite among Marckus' friends. He's very much the only sane man, and he's probably got a set of brass knuckles and a pair of 45 caliber revolvers for when things get bad.
As someone who was a youf in the UK in 2006 this conversation felt so fucking real, especially Grimal, I knew a couple Grimals, I may have been part Grimal. Hearing Grimal mention the Yaoi Paddle, say squee phoenetically, and say emoticons out loud gave me the strongest sense of nostalgia.

However, he often thinks and acts TOO quickly and doesn't have enough time to think about the consequences; for example, he had the right idea about Pyotr having less edge in an open space (especially since the dawn was coming), but his plan to simply jump out of the second floor did not account for the fact he'd fuck up his ankles in the process. Or, with Brok, he had a great plan with the drinks, but didn't account for the possibility of Brok or his goons actually spotting that there's two bottles.

Seriously, there are some Mages out there that are basically a mix of Charlie Chaplin/Jackie Chan that "Luck" just fall on them.
@@ArchArturo There are two kinds of magic, Dynamic or "True" Magic used by the Awakened Mages, those who realize reality is based on the consensus of the collective unconscious, and are thus able to rewrite reality through willpower but suffer from Paradox, reality's punishment for violating its laws; and Static or Linear magic, used by mortals (in mage terms, Sleepers) and supernaturals alike, which fits within the confines of reality and suffers no Paradox (for a given definition of reality in a world with vampires and werewolves and fairies). Linear magic covers all sorts of supernatural studies such as the blood magics used by vampires, the powers used by certain werecreatures, and, most pertinently here, Sorcery or "hedge magic", a limited form of magic that can be studied by any mortal/Sleeper. Unlike the Spheres that the Awakened use to understand reality, which allow a Mage to play fast and loose with related subjects of reality to create a desired effect or spell at will, Sorcery follows set Paths with defined processes and outcomes. In this instance, Marckus, a Sleeper Sorcerer in the making, unknowingly utilized the Path of Cursing, a school of sorcery that inflicts bad luck upon their enemies, activating when coincidence would allow them to: He held a sentimental object belonging to the target (the folding chair), set a parameter ("I swear though, if you try ANYTHING..."), accompanied by a statement of ill intent ("The sickness of dogs long past will haunt you") that Brok (eventually) understood as bearing him ill will, while making eye contact. The curse cast and Grimal/the chair exchanged, Brok then violated the parameter of the curse (trying ANYTHING after the exchange took place) multiple times, threatening them ("I WILL CHOP YER HEADS OFF an' put'em on the rack of me TRUCK-!") and drawing several knives, each time punished by a brief, seemingly coincidental inconvenience (retroactive salmonella poisoning and subsequent vomiting, knife destruction, and the arrival of Det. Sgt. Guy Chapman). Notably, aside from the thorough throttling from Brok, Marckus suffered no actual negative effects or Paradox from casting such a curse, meaning this wasn't Dynamic Magic at play. TL;DR Marckus isn't a Mage, he's a Sorcerer, there's a difference.
Interesting given Big D has been dropping big mage hints as well as hinting at training his kids to eventually awaken this might be Markus'. There is a sphere of magic called entropy which deals with curses, blessings, memes, and probability and generally a mage utilizes the sphere they are most attuned with upon first awakening their power. Especially since for curses in general to work in World of Darkness you need eye contact, a spoken curse, and for the person to know you are saying something malicious to them. Additionally having a personal object of the target(usually a body part but a deeply sentimental object would also work) can magnify and focus the power of a spell. So Markus basically cursed Brok with supernaturally bad luck which might have even retroactively made the bottles poison by making the unlikely survival of the salmonella a certainty.

Originally I was a bit dubious about him being a mage because he doesn't really seem to have an Avatar or knowledge of magic but this might be a good example of some sort of hedge-magic? Not sure, the main issue I have in mind is that Marckus doesn't really appear to be one of the Awakened unless he is being a very good actor.

I figure it might have been a Discipline from our friendly Ghouled Copper, Guy Chapman. Ghouls can get minor vampire powers from their masters; maybe he cast "unluckiness" as part of his blood bond with the Great and Mighty Kevin? (Idk, not well versed in vampire abilities)
The fan theory right now is that either markus is a mage and doesn't know it, which seems the least likely given how paradox is, somehow cast sorcery without knowing, given how there is a certain curse that matches up exactly to what happened (something of fortune or something like that i forgot the name) or (my personal fav) that the folding chair is a talisman and thats why brok freaked out so much when markus grabbed it
So- Kevin's interrogation, Kevin tells Big D a secret "That the Regent would NOT want hunters to know." In ep 2, Big D begins telling the family what he learned, that "Apparently, the chapter house in Yarmouth-" before he's interrupted by the diablerie fiasco. And here (the discussion about D-words and Marckus' research being burned 12:22), we learn that the Yarmouth Chapter House refers to the local Arcanum chapter, ostensibly led by Chancellor Occam and controlled by a faction of "old guard" led by Remold Blacklaw. SO- that begs the question, what secret do the Tremere know about the Arcanum that the Arcanum themselves do not?
Hmm... Markus did mention how all the good old guard are dead. Often the dead take secrets with them, so that is fun bit of conspiracy isn't it? Big D basically sending Markus as an unwitting spy, telling just enough to Officer Guy Chapman to feel the need to tail Markus since, ya know... Markus has a mouth and an inferiority complex. I wonder if Big D even knows where his plans will lead him. Also, the moon has been full for 3 days now in that universe. Just sayin.

She would also probably have a funny instant best friend relation with Magnus as she is a seeker of "knowledge" as well. So a line came into my mind when the first knife fell apart, and the second knife exploded. It's a line from TTS by the same team, from Magnus the Red, voiced by the same voice actor. "You never did anything but look down upon me for having my powers - powers that you, yourself, also had!" And under the rules of the World of Darkness - the original one, for those who know a bit about it - Mages (or, as Big D described them earlier, 'wizards') who are just about to tip into full-fledged magic man status, often have weird, unlikely coincidences start happening around them. Now there's already been some parallels with TTS, but I'm reminded of an earlier comment from Big D in the audiolog where he and Kitten talk about the supernatural. Asked if he had ever suffered the Delirium, he dismissed with a casual "No, I'm built different." At the time, it just sounded like him being glib about being an experienced hunter; however, in the rules for Werewolf, it explicitly points out that other supernatural beings do not suffer the Delirium (though they might suffer a completely normal fear response to some large, doglike beast ripping down their door and eviscerating their colleagues). Add in that Big D seemed utterly unsurprised to see vampires down in the hole, and was fairly confident that he could escape one holding a knife to his throat. I think Big D's a mage, albeit one smart enough to avoid Paradox (backlash against being too obvious with your spellcasting in the World of Darkness). Mages tend to study other supernatural beings, which is probably how Big D and his family came to join the Arcanum in the first place. They also tend to dislike being told "you can't study " by anyone, especially non-mages. But why would a Mage be a Hunter? Well. There's a group of mages called Marauders, who tend to be questionably sane at best - and have a burning hatred for other supernatural beings, as well as a strong tendency towards megalomania. So, Big D might very well be a Marauder who's kept relatively sane and balanced by his family, which is why he has such a big one. It also explains...well, just about everything about Horse. TLDR: Big D is a crazy wizard, Magnus is becoming a sane wizard, and Boy probably is too, thanks to some pushing by Horse.
But wait, if a vampire drinks a mage's blood, he still gets the vitae, but his mind shortly opens up to the Supernal world. In other words, that vamp is going on one heck of an acid trip. Maybe that wasn't DMT that got the great and mighty Kevin high as fuck after all...
At first I thought the bobby might've been responsible, being a Tremere ghoul and all that, but then I remembered that Thaumaturgy is *nowhere near* as subtle or versatile as that, which means actual mage shenanigans are afoot and there's a good chance Marckus is the one (subconciously) responsible.

@@flockofseagulls2518 if i remember right the different species of vampires have super specific powers to their breeds. All of them have some level of superhuman physical ability, but the likes of Pyotor and shitbeard are those who specifically have exceptioanlly inhuman strength. How strong these abilities are completely depends on the generation they come from and gets weaker the further from the source it is as its passed on though by how much i am not sure. When pyortor ate those two he basically 'ranked up' and basically stole the power of those generations more or less. It is forbidden cause if not cannibalism would be rampant and would offset their power structure and new would literally devour the old. But while he did devour them it only increase the powers he had inherently. Inhuman strength, animal control, invisibility, and made his appearance even more ghoulish than it was before presumably.

You guys have an uncanny ability to write dialogue that sounds real. I’ve never seen any other writer that comes close to this close to how really people talk.
I've recently read a book from the Mystery Flesh Pit National Park franchise, that had extremely real-feeling writing, Stephen King type of stuff, if you're interested. It ain't comedy like HTP, but it's completely free and about the Permian Basin Superorganism so sign me the fuck up and all!
I'm seriously reminded of some friends of mine with how those four go back and forth with each other. Only true friends can mess with each other so lovingly.

I think that the best part of this episode is just Marckus interacting with his friends. I honestly believe that if Magnus, hell, most of the Primarchs, had the kind of friends where you could go to a bar, barely drink, and still have a great time, things would have been better. And hell, Grimal, Elise, and Harry are the best kinds of friends. They give him shit (not so much Harry, who is a good boy), they have interests they can geek over, and when the chips are down they freaking have his back in a fight. And better still, they are in the know, so Marckus has someone outside his family and future husband he can talk to about this insanity. Mad props for introducing these three and making us instantly love them, because they are the kind of friends we would want.
I imagine that if Marckus wasn't wrapped up in several minas-and-definitely-not-kilograms of bandages and plaster casts he wouldn't be so worried about Slackjaw's big meaty claws. The appearance of Guy Chapman was very convenient. I imagine him saying 'I had a premonition' is a tad more literal than the others took it as. Also the curses/magick. Good to see he was honest and said 'I'm working with your dad', though. At least the Ghoul is capable of openness.

Managed to not only learn about Marcus' group of friends more than any other characters in most movies, but also too managed to appreciate every one of them for their own different and oddly charming connection that brings them all together. Also with the rather Ork-like talk of Brok and his mates, EVERY voice actor in this gives it their 110%. And along with the added amazing work for the portraits (especially Grimal's anime energy), this stuff puts even some Hollywood "movies" to shame. Immense hats off to you and your wonderful crew, Alfabusa. You lot are the real deal, through and through. *cheers with a non-Salmonella drink*
The entire time Slackjaw was asking about Markus' "new burd" I could not breathe I was so terrified. Then I couldn't breathe from laughing. Needless to say you have killed me
I thought that Markus would get shit for gay love, but nope! Markus once again shows his high intelligence by knowing that his attacker would do and preparing a trap. Like, Markus basically called for Slackjaw to grab his phone. It was mostly likely Markus's intent. He quickly changed Slackjaw's father number name to Luv and maybe erased any evidence of his actual love's number. Then he just kept clicking buttons and ignoring Slackjaw to make him jump into the trap. Dunno if Slackjaw returned Markus his phone tho. Of course, the trap wasn't very strong, but eh - decent, i suppose. Two birds with one stone. Also, Markus has successfully cursed Slackjaw it seems, although the curse might not have been strong enough to win the situation. Luckily, Chapman was there to help. Seeing Slackjaw get defeated like that is nice i suppose.

@@Bluecho4 Actually, that's possible, but Markcus didn't seem very surprised at that and it said to be the brains, so i think it's likely that it was just planning. Plus, Markcus magic (my understanding from reading comments under this episode) usually requires holding something what is of great value the person the mage curses. In addition, the mage must express a curse the target can understand as a curse.

I love the fact that Big D denying the Kuie-jin works on both fronts, since he gives a very good reason why they shouldn't exist (main reason I never put them in my games, frankly), and if they do exist he hates the very idea so much that he'll ignore any evidence to the contrary. Edit: Also, I just realized that when Big D was joining the crew in Episode 2, he said that Kevin had some 'tasty information' about the chapter house in Yarmoth. I wonder if the local Camarilla has a mole there, and just who it might be...

Am I the only one that's dangerously, scarily curious about what Slackjaw said beneath those censors that was so terrible his father DEMANDED he comes home for a talk...? Great content and writing as always. The new characters and added lore is quite interesting. Love this series.
What I love most about this series is that since we’re no longer in 40k and thus don’t have to deal with GRIMDARK anymore we can have far healthier and down to earth relationships with a (relatively) much more positive mood and outlook. It’s like how dragonball z abridged ended up in a lot of ways being a better story then the source material. Instead of being a constantly bullied loner who’s always teetering on betraying his father, Markus is something of a loveable dumbass/smartass that has friends, a romantic partner and a for the most part caring family with a dad who isn’t constantly changing his mind between genuinely caring about his sons and treating them like nothing more than science experiments. The atmosphere is less of a high gothic constantly suffering slugfest and instead more like a young adult horror comedy adventure book by Darren Shan. Compared to most Warhammer stories this series is downright wholesome and chill enough to sport several lofi videos. Inevitably they’re going to go to WAY darker places since this is the Masquerade we’re talking about but it’s nice while it lasts.
One thing that heavily sold me on these characters (aside from the first episode) is the scene during "Something is wrong with Horse" when Door just stright-up asks Markus if he is okay. Dorn would NEVER do that in the 40k series, especially to Magnus of all people. Seeing Door and Markus just connect like that gave me a feeling of tenderness that were never present before. I told myself "These are not the same characters" because it was true. These translations are such departures from the original characters that it became it's own simulacrum in writing. I love Door, I love Markus, I love Kitten and I LOVE Big-D and I think that these characters fit right at home in the world of Darkness. Alfabusa and co. are absolute fucking GENIUSES.
Slackjaw is the only villain in this series who's legitimately terrifying. Just a normal human who will cheerfully hate crime you for fun, and unlike the supernatural threats you can find guys like him everywhere.
He's even worse than that, he's that + he got the privilege of being the so of an important man which means in the real world his types won't be held accountable for their horrible deeds

Everybody knows that the Kuel Jin was a mistake. Up there with some of the worst entries in WtA and Gypsy the Traveler. It's why while they mention that they are still around in the new WoD lore, the chances of them actually doing anything with them is slim to none. Too much controversy for no pay off.

Used to know a bunch of people from those circles, even hanged on the fringes of that culture for a time. Boy, that feels like it was so much longer ago than it actually was.
I suppose this level of expertise has to do with the fact that Alfabusa and his team have been friends even before they went pro with these productions. I..think they've been hanging around for like, 15 years I think? Earliest video I've seen from them stretches about 2005-2007. Basically, what I'm saying is that I'm thinking they've taken inspiration from their own interactions with each other when it came to writing the conversations with the characters they write. (That, and of course the stuff they watch).

honestly every episode i fall in love with big D a little more but its always the little things that make my heart melt a little telling his family hes proud of all of them when they think hes going to die when he says he loves his grandson praises markus for being strong or smart saying how much faith he has in his family telling kitten hes proud of him freaking the fuck out when he thought he put his family in danger by letting information slip hoping markus has a good time and having complete confidence in him that, even in his injured state, he could win in a pub brawl against the locals all these little things paint a picture of a man who is like the antithesis to the emperor or what the emperor would be if he chose a different path. a crazy lunatic of a dad, who despite all his eccentricities and weirdness he is still a DAD first and foremost who loves, cares for and is proud of his weird as fuck family and even though his family dont seem to pick up on it (probably because they're so used to it by now) he wont stop telling them how proud he is. its something you kinda forget because its a small piece among a clusterfuck of weird characters and loud situations but big D may not be the best father in the world but by fuck, you can tell that he is TRYING to be a good father with all his heart and soul sometimes, that isnt enough, sometimes he makes mistakes and slips up sometimes his mistakes (such as not educating them enough) leads to OTHER people making mistakes like in the interrogation when boy used the wrong word. notice how he doesnt get mad or upset at any mistakes he sees his family makes. he gets worried he isnt thinking "how DARE they screw up! now i have to clean up their mess!" he thinks "they made a mistake and im going to have to account for it to make sure they're safe" i know this is going on a bit of a tangent, so i'll end off with this: they have turned the emperor who is admitedly a total fucking dick into someone who, if he dies during this series is gonna have me bawling like a bitch harder than cyberpunk:edgerunners. and that fuckin anime had me filling buckets with tears so that should tell you how much i love this new big D
Not to mention his introspective monologue about wheter or not he should tell his children everything, and risk them having all his knowledge amd being hunted, or to keep them in the dark to have them not constantly with a target on their backs, but run the risk of ignorance killing them. Its something the Emperor never thought or discussed, but thanks to his conversation with Horse we see that part shine even more (its also worth noting that he only leaves Horse with Kitten when he promises to stay with him. He intended to stay there all night to ensure his son, who was deathly sick as far as he knew, but was drawn away only by the pleading logic of another son. But then you have Markus's perspective of him being comfortable, luxurious, and forcing his fiance to stay with Horse in the rain, suffering. Its so interesting looking into the head through their monologues we wouldn't normally have (as otherwise it'd be kind of weird in an episode for a monologue, they're instead talking to Horse who cannot respond, makinging a conversation in world but a monologue to us). Tldr: The Ogerpopernang (I misspelled it, yeah I know) crew is fantastic at storytelling and characterization, motivations and insights are let in beautifully and build on previous information seamlessly.
Is he, though? It looks like they all met as members of the Arcanum. Grimal even says Kitten and her dated because she was the only person he knew who knew about vampires and "beggars can't be chosers."

Grimal is like… the best parts of the weirdos that used to hang out with me and my friends in college… unfortunately either they were extraordinarily hard for me to talk with, or they were… _socially manipulative…_ I like Grimal though, she sounds like a fun kind of crazy, the kind that spices interactions with your friends up enough to shed light on an otherwise-dark evening. Okay, I feel the need to draw attention to something I don't see many people praising this for, and that something is atmosphere. Everything from the background noises to the music is just perfect in the last few episodes, I haven't gotten that comfy cozy feeling of watching something in a long time, I mean the laughs are all there, this has been a fun series to watch, but you're really onto something here beyond the funny memes, goofs and gaffs. Hell I have no idea what fucking universe this thing is based in, I have no idea if this is some homebrew stuff or something I just haven't heard of but I'm 200% invested in everything going on here, it's honestly brilliant, and doubly impressive when you've followed this channel from literally the first EP of TTS, you and the team have come a LONG way and I seriously hope you guys are proud of what you've done here, you should be. The Voice acting is great, the writing is great, the characters are great, the story, the atmosphere, it's all there. Other people have pointed out the writing as well, and I have to say I agree, the conversations just feel organic, as someone who dabbles in writing that's incredibly hard for me to do, but you've nailed it, and it only helps that the characters really have good chemistry, seeing them interact with each other alone is just incredibly fun, and that's only half of all the good shit in the show, no not even half of it, a quarter maybe. Someone REALLY needs to get you guys a proper budget.
For what it's worth, if nobody's told you, this is the World of Darkness setting (Largely Vampire: the Masquerade and Hunter: the Reckoning so far, with a dash of Mage: the Ascension and Werewolf: the Apocalypse thrown in). And absolutely, the vibes are good throughout the series but this one especially is *so* comfy.
Ok so either Markus unintentionally did magick or the Tremere ghoul constable has been around long enough to develop disciplines... I don't know which possibility is more frightening
From what I know about WoD magic (not very much btw) in order to curse someone you need direct eye contact, hold a sentimental item, say threatening words, and the target must realize they're threatening words. I think Markus accidentally did all 4 of those at 45:45 with his "If you try anything, the sickness of dogs long past will haunt you"

The t'au warrior Shadowsun is just the reincarnation of a bri'ish fujo weeb lady who's long dead by the 41st mellinium. Grimal in her human life wanted to be reborn as a super cool, badass alien warrior chick in some anime battle suit and by the power of both causality and "warp fuckery" her wish was granted.
Also Harry got reincarnated as a "gue'vesa" (still human..) worker who helps in basic logistics (basically hauling munitions and supplies), currently working under commander *Shadowsun-san* for another crucial military operation.

I think the blacklaw situation helps a lot. Sure you get to see her genuine side a bit with how beat up Marckus is and all but she is still very gremlin weeb and it could be over the top. Specially with the biting. However when Blacklaw and his goons get in we get to see that she isn't all bark. She flat out uses that same energy to, break spit's ass, regularly punch and whack Git, and bite Blacklaw.

Non-Imbued hunters are at a heavy disadvantage in that they don't have the ability to drag down the supernatural to being on the scale of a regular human, BUT they also are not affected the The Drive, meaning that they are more likely to pick marks that they can actually deal with, and can spend a prolonged time waiting for the perfect opportunity compared to a merely adequate one.

I love how we have not one, not two, but THREE tropey/stereotype characters in Markus' friend group and not one came off as annoying, truly an impressive feat. Anime was adorable, Chad Chadington was cool, and DoomNGloom was funny.

However, he often thinks and acts TOO quickly and doesn't have enough time to think about the consequences; for example, he had the right idea about Pyotr having less edge in an open space (especially since the dawn was coming), but his plan to simply jump out of the second floor did not account for the fact he'd fuck up his ankles in the process. Or, with Brok, he had a great plan with the drinks, but didn't account for the possibility of Brok or his goons actually spotting that there's two bottles.

And, for reasons of Study of Magirc, there are Spheres of influence, Entropy is one such Sphere, basically it's a sphere of Decay, but not just in Nature, but... ACCIDENTS, as well. Seriously, there are some Mages out there that are basically a mix of Charlie Chaplin/Jackie Chan that "Luck" just fall on them.
@@ArchArturo There are two kinds of magic, Dynamic or "True" Magic used by the Awakened Mages, those who realize reality is based on the consensus of the collective unconscious, and are thus able to rewrite reality through willpower but suffer from Paradox, reality's punishment for violating its laws; and Static or Linear magic, used by mortals (in mage terms, Sleepers) and supernaturals alike, which fits within the confines of reality and suffers no Paradox (for a given definition of reality in a world with vampires and werewolves and fairies).
Linear magic covers all sorts of supernatural studies such as the blood magics used by vampires, the powers used by certain werecreatures, and, most pertinently here, Sorcery or "hedge magic", a limited form of magic that can be studied by any mortal/Sleeper.
Unlike the Spheres that the Awakened use to understand reality, which allow a Mage to play fast and loose with related subjects of reality to create a desired effect or spell at will, Sorcery follows set Paths with defined processes and outcomes. In this instance, Marckus, a Sleeper Sorcerer in the making, unknowingly utilized the Path of Cursing, a school of sorcery that inflicts bad luck upon their enemies, activating when coincidence would allow them to:
He held a sentimental object belonging to the target (the folding chair), set a parameter ("I swear though, if you try ANYTHING..."), accompanied by a statement of ill intent ("The sickness of dogs long past will haunt you") that Brok (eventually) understood as bearing him ill will, while making eye contact. The curse cast and Grimal/the chair exchanged, Brok then violated the parameter of the curse (trying ANYTHING after the exchange took place) multiple times, threatening them ("I WILL CHOP YER HEADS OFF an' put'em on the rack of me TRUCK-!") and drawing several knives, each time punished by a brief, seemingly coincidental inconvenience (retroactive salmonella poisoning and subsequent vomiting, knife destruction, and the arrival of Det. Sgt. Guy Chapman).
Notably, aside from the thorough throttling from Brok, Marckus suffered no actual negative effects or Paradox from casting such a curse, meaning this wasn't Dynamic Magic at play.
TL;DR Marckus isn't a Mage, he's a Sorcerer, there's a difference.
Interesting given Big D has been dropping big mage hints as well as hinting at training his kids to eventually awaken this might be Markus'. There is a sphere of magic called entropy which deals with curses, blessings, memes, and probability and generally a mage utilizes the sphere they are most attuned with upon first awakening their power. Especially since for curses in general to work in World of Darkness you need eye contact, a spoken curse, and for the person to know you are saying something malicious to them. Additionally having a personal object of the target(usually a body part but a deeply sentimental object would also work) can magnify and focus the power of a spell. So Markus basically cursed Brok with supernaturally bad luck which might have even retroactively made the bottles poison by making the unlikely survival of the salmonella a certainty.
Oh shit that might be true. Originally I was a bit dubious about him being a mage because he doesn't really seem to have an Avatar or knowledge of magic but this might be a good example of some sort of hedge-magic? Not sure, the main issue I have in mind is that Marckus doesn't really appear to be one of the Awakened unless he is being a very good actor.

So- Kevin's interrogation, Kevin tells Big D a secret "That the Regent would NOT want hunters to know."
In ep 2, Big D begins telling the family what he learned, that "Apparently, the chapter house in Yarmouth-" before he's interrupted by the diablerie fiasco.
And here (the discussion about D-words and Marckus' research being burned 12:22), we learn that the Yarmouth Chapter House refers to the local Arcanum chapter, ostensibly led by Chancellor Occam and controlled by a faction of "old guard" led by Remold Blacklaw.
SO- that begs the question, what secret do the Tremere know about the Arcanum that the Arcanum themselves do not?

So a line came into my mind when the first knife fell apart, and the second knife exploded. It's a line from TTS by the same team, from Magnus the Red, voiced by the same voice actor.

And under the rules of the World of Darkness - the original one, for those who know a bit about it - Mages (or, as Big D described them earlier, 'wizards') who are just about to tip into full-fledged magic man status, often have weird, unlikely coincidences start happening around them. Now there's already been some parallels with TTS, but I'm reminded of an earlier comment from Big D in the audiolog where he and Kitten talk about the supernatural. Asked if he had ever suffered the Delirium, he dismissed with a casual "No, I'm built different."
At the time, it just sounded like him being glib about being an experienced hunter; however, in the rules for Werewolf, it explicitly points out that other supernatural beings do not suffer the Delirium (though they might suffer a completely normal fear response to some large, doglike beast ripping down their door and eviscerating their colleagues). Add in that Big D seemed utterly unsurprised to see vampires down in the hole, and was fairly confident that he could escape one holding a knife to his throat. I think Big D's a mage, albeit one smart enough to avoid Paradox (backlash against being too obvious with your spellcasting in the World of Darkness).
Mages tend to study other supernatural beings, which is probably how Big D and his family came to join the Arcanum in the first place. They also tend to dislike being told "you can't study " by anyone, especially non-mages. But why would a Mage be a Hunter? Well. There's a group of mages called Marauders, who tend to be questionably sane at best - and have a burning hatred for other supernatural beings, as well as a strong tendency towards megalomania. So, Big D might very well be a Marauder who's kept relatively sane and balanced by his family, which is why he has such a big one. It also explains...well, just about everything about Horse.
TLDR: Big D is a crazy wizard, Magnus is becoming a sane wizard, and Boy probably is too, thanks to some pushing by Horse.

@@flockofseagulls2518 if i remember right the different species of vampires have super specific powers to their breeds. All of them have some level of superhuman physical ability, but the likes of Pyotor and shitbeard are those who specifically have exceptioanlly inhuman strength.
How strong these abilities are completely depends on the generation they come from and gets weaker the further from the source it is as its passed on though by how much i am not sure.
When pyortor ate those two he basically 'ranked up' and basically stole the power of those generations more or less. It is forbidden cause if not cannibalism would be rampant and would offset their power structure and new would literally devour the old.
But while he did devour them it only increase the powers he had inherently. Inhuman strength, animal control, invisibility, and made his appearance even more ghoulish than it was before presumably.

Marckus's summary of the Arcanum reminds me of the Institute in Fallout 4. "Imagine all the GOOD they could do if they just opened up a little." applies to both.

You guys have an uncanny ability to write dialogue that sounds real. I’ve never seen any other writer that comes close to this close to how really people talk.

I think that the best part of this episode is just Marckus interacting with his friends. I honestly believe that if Magnus, hell, most of the Primarchs, had the kind of friends where you could go to a bar, barely drink, and still have a great time, things would have been better.
And hell, Grimal, Elise, and Harry are the best kinds of friends. They give him shit (not so much Harry, who is a good boy), they have interests they can geek over, and when the chips are down they freaking have his back in a fight. And better still, they are in the know, so Marckus has someone outside his family and future husband he can talk to about this insanity.
Mad props for introducing these three and making us instantly love them, because they are the kind of friends we would want.

Managed to not only learn about Marcus' group of friends more than any other characters in most movies, but also too managed to appreciate every one of them for their own different and oddly charming connection that brings them all together. Also with the rather Ork-like talk of Brok and his mates, EVERY voice actor in this gives it their 110%. And along with the added amazing work for the portraits (especially Grimal's anime energy), this stuff puts even some Hollywood "movies" to shame. Immense hats off to you and your wonderful crew, Alfabusa. You lot are the real deal, through and through. *cheers with a non-Salmonella drink*

I thought that Markus would get shit for gay love, but nope! Markus once again shows his high intelligence by knowing that his attacker would do and preparing a trap. Like, Markus basically called for Slackjaw to grab his phone. It was mostly likely Markus's intent. He quickly changed Slackjaw's father number name to Luv and maybe erased any evidence of his actual love's number. Then he just kept clicking buttons and ignoring Slackjaw to make him jump into the trap. Dunno if Slackjaw returned Markus his phone tho.
Of course, the trap wasn't very strong, but eh - decent, i suppose. Two birds with one stone.
Also, Markus has successfully cursed Slackjaw it seems, although the curse might not have been strong enough to win the situation.
Luckily, Chapman was there to help.

Plus, Markcus magic (my understanding from reading comments under this episode) usually requires holding something what is of great value the person the mage curses. In addition, the mage must express a curse the target can understand as a curse.

I love the fact that Big D denying the Kuie-jin works on both fronts, since he gives a very good reason why they shouldn't exist (main reason I never put them in my games, frankly), and if they do exist he hates the very idea so much that he'll ignore any evidence to the contrary.

What I love most about this series is that since we’re no longer in 40k and thus don’t have to deal with GRIMDARK anymore we can have far healthier and down to earth relationships with a (relatively) much more positive mood and outlook. It’s like how dragonball z abridged ended up in a lot of ways being a better story then the source material.
Instead of being a constantly bullied loner who’s always teetering on betraying his father, Markus is something of a loveable dumbass/smartass that has friends, a romantic partner and a for the most part caring family with a dad who isn’t constantly changing his mind between genuinely caring about his sons and treating them like nothing more than science experiments. The atmosphere is less of a high gothic constantly suffering slugfest and instead more like a young adult horror comedy adventure book by Darren Shan.
Compared to most Warhammer stories this series is downright wholesome and chill enough to sport several lofi videos. Inevitably they’re going to go to WAY darker places since this is the Masquerade we’re talking about but it’s nice while it lasts.
One thing that heavily sold me on these characters (aside from the first episode) is the scene during "Something is wrong with Horse" when Door just stright-up asks Markus if he is okay. Dorn would NEVER do that in the 40k series, especially to Magnus of all people. Seeing Door and Markus just connect like that gave me a feeling of tenderness that were never present before. I told myself "These are not the same characters" because it was true. These translations are such departures from the original characters that it became it's own simulacrum in writing. I love Door, I love Markus, I love Kitten and I LOVE Big-D and I think that these characters fit right at home in the world of Darkness. Alfabusa and co. are absolute fucking GENIUSES.

Slackjaw is the only villain in this series who's legitimately terrifying. Just a normal human who will cheerfully hate crime you for fun, and unlike the supernatural threats you can find guys like him everywhere.

Everybody knows that the Kuel Jin was a mistake. Up there with some of the worst entries in WtA and Gypsy the Traveler. It's why while they mention that they are still around in the new WoD lore, the chances of them actually doing anything with them is slim to none. Too much controversy for no pay off.

I suppose this level of expertise has to do with the fact that Alfabusa and his team have been friends even before they went pro with these productions. I..think they've been hanging around for like, 15 years I think? Earliest video I've seen from them stretches about 2005-2007. Basically, what I'm saying is that I'm thinking they've taken inspiration from their own interactions with each other when it came to writing the conversations with the characters they write. (That, and of course the stuff they watch).

Not to mention his introspective monologue about wheter or not he should tell his children everything, and risk them having all his knowledge amd being hunted, or to keep them in the dark to have them not constantly with a target on their backs, but run the risk of ignorance killing them.
Its something the Emperor never thought or discussed, but thanks to his conversation with Horse we see that part shine even more (its also worth noting that he only leaves Horse with Kitten when he promises to stay with him. He intended to stay there all night to ensure his son, who was deathly sick as far as he knew, but was drawn away only by the pleading logic of another son. But then you have Markus's perspective of him being comfortable, luxurious, and forcing his fiance to stay with Horse in the rain, suffering. Its so interesting looking into the head through their monologues we wouldn't normally have (as otherwise it'd be kind of weird in an episode for a monologue, they're instead talking to Horse who cannot respond, makinging a conversation in world but a monologue to us).
Tldr: The Ogerpopernang (I misspelled it, yeah I know) crew is fantastic at storytelling and characterization, motivations and insights are let in beautifully and build on previous information seamlessly.
Markus is the type of dude that makes friends with everyone from every social circle.
Back in the 2000's when this takes place, that was rare.
Is he, though? It looks like they all met as members of the Arcanum. Grimal even says Kitten and her dated because she was the only person he knew who knew about vampires and "beggars can't be chosers."

I love all these newcomers and hope to see them interact with the family. Glad Kitten is still on good terms with his ex and wonder how they would all react to Door, Big D and Boy. And of course, what more they find out. Though also Marckus is starting to realize a bit of the frustrations his dad goes through.Hopefully Marcus and Big D can patch things up

Okay, I feel the need to draw attention to something I don't see many people praising this for, and that something is atmosphere. Everything from the background noises to the music is just perfect in the last few episodes, I haven't gotten that comfy cozy feeling of watching something in a long time, I mean the laughs are all there, this has been a fun series to watch, but you're really onto something here beyond the funny memes, goofs and gaffs. Hell I have no idea what fucking universe this thing is based in, I have no idea if this is some homebrew stuff or something I just haven't heard of but I'm 200% invested in everything going on here, it's honestly brilliant, and doubly impressive when you've followed this channel from literally the first EP of TTS, you and the team have come a LONG way and I seriously hope you guys are proud of what you've done here, you should be. The Voice acting is great, the writing is great, the characters are great, the story, the atmosphere, it's all there.
Other people have pointed out the writing as well, and I have to say I agree, the conversations just feel organic, as someone who dabbles in writing that's incredibly hard for me to do, but you've nailed it, and it only helps that the characters really have good chemistry, seeing them interact with each other alone is just incredibly fun, and that's only half of all the good shit in the show, no not even half of it, a quarter maybe. Someone REALLY needs to get you guys a proper budget.
For what it's worth, if nobody's told you, this is the World of Darkness setting (Largely Vampire: the Masquerade and Hunter: the Reckoning so far, with a dash of Mage: the Ascension and Werewolf: the Apocalypse thrown in). And absolutely, the vibes are good throughout the series but this one especially is *so* comfy.

Thaumaturgical disciplines aren't that subtle though.
From what I know about WoD magic (not very much btw) in order to curse someone you need direct eye contact, hold a sentimental item, say threatening words, and the target must realize they're threatening words.
