Worked as a Millwright at PFI Fisheries in Petersburg AK for 15 yrs. Fredrick Sound had World Class Fishing within 20 miles of town on any given day. Chinook's, Coho, Halibut, Shrimp and Crab. My Whaler was set up for 4 and we averaged 500 Lbs+ per outing at our fav Halibut Hole (which was actually a large mound on the glacier floor) nearly every Spring/Summer. I was also running a Salmon Roe Bait Company and many of my Buds were Guides & Pro Fishermen outta Wash & Ore. We'd fly them up and take em to the Halibut Spot, throw out some shrimp or crab pots along the way and wait for Ebb Tide. We always kept the under 40 pounders and gave away the 80Lb+ Halibut as they were much grainier and less tender than the "Chicken" (small) Halibut. Made the mistake of getting a Commercial Jigging Permit for Halibut one Spring and 4 of us hauled up 6500Lbs of Halibut on Rod & Reel in Two Days. I was so sick of Halibut I didn't fish for them again for Two years . . . besides, the Chinook Salmon fishing was amazing and taste pretty good freshly Smoked. Yum !

@@matimus100Halibut are born as males and change to females when they reach 80 to 100 Lbs. Salmon have an anal fin next to their poop chute that has several ribs in the fin that keep its shape. That fin is tallest in front & gets progressively shorter towards the rear. If the two Ribs at the front (tallest) end of the fin stand out as slightly taller and dont taper evenly with rhe remaining ribs, then it's a male Salmon. A nicely evenly tapered anal fin from front to rear is a Female.

2 years ago in June my friend that lives in Anchorage flew me out to Alaska for a week. He has a sailboat in Seward that he has had since 1975. We spent the night on his boat and the next morning we went halibut fishing on a boat called the Perservance. Went 3 hours out. The most amazing fishing trip I have ever been on. Everyone on the boat caught their 2 halibut. I had over 30 pounds of cleaned fish. We went all over the place when I was there. If I could afford to live there I would definitely be living there. I could afford to live in one of those dry cabins, the ones that have no running water and your bathroom is a outhouse. They are only $400.00 a month with all bills paid. The thing is they are in Fairbanks and it gets between 30 and 80 degrees below zero. They are only a few miles from University of Alaska Fairbanks. Just a few miles out of the city you are a good ways back in the woods. I love that idea but the cold there I couldn't take.

Some of the best sportfishing there is. Such a thrill. The story about the commercial fisherman in Alaska catching a 400 pounder while out solo, not killing it before he got it in the boat, and then it thrashing so hard that it killed him will stick in my mind until I catch one myself.

OMG....I can't believe so many Floridians that haven't had Halibut!! Best fish in the WORLD! (Can you tell it's my favorite?!). Victor: we've been on a couple of Alaskan cruises from SoCal, and the last one we took the seaplane trip to the Taku Lodge for a salmon dinner. Fresh caught that day and cooked on outdoor grills while you watch, and even though I'm not a big salmon fan, it was the best fish I'd ever eaten, EXCEPT for any of my halibut eats.
BTW...I will echo what many have said and I've said on your other videos: I'm "hooked" on them. I watch A LOT of YT videos of all persuasions, and the absolute clarity of the video, your personality and uncanny ability to explain everything fishing, and the fantastic content from catch to eat is BAR NONE. Keep up the great work!!!

Been catching Flounder on the Gulf coast of Mexico for over 55 years. A delicious fish to be cooked so many ways!
Flounder is the general name for a whole Flatfish family, including Turbot, Sole, Plaice, and more. Halibut is part of that family. The confusion comes from the fact that several species have “Flounder” in their name, while others, like California Halibut, aren't actually Halibut at all.
I hope, to one day, be able to catch cook and eat a Halibut.

I used to make a pistachio encrusted sea bass, but found I could do the same with a thick piece of halibut, pan fried and finished in the oven and set up with a cream lemon -butter sauce with capers and pair that with asparagus and we have a delicious meal. Be careful not to overcook halibut as then it becomes very dry and tougher to eat.

Went on a fishing trip w a guide. Needless to say it was the most unpleasant and worthless fishing trip I’ve ever been on. Buyer beware. In Alaska fisherman are allowed one fish of most species. The three anglers on my boat were not allowed to catch and release. In fact, one angler on the boat may catch all the Halibut and those fish are distributed to others on the boat. The guides focus is on pictures and advertising, not who catches what. He will take pics at the doc and use them to sell his business. If you shelled out $500 for a half day of fishing and watched everyone else reel them in, even yours which you DID NOT catch. Mark it up to a bad experience and move on.

Thanks for sharing! The white aspeges you can also coock them for 25 minutes, make some hollendase saus, choped pork bits and hard boiled eggs. Put this on the white asperges.

I’m so glad you guys want fishing in Alaska. I meant to ask you guys to go up there and do a halibut or salmon video. I’ve been wanting to go up there to fish for a while, but my partner in crime always has other plans with his friends and so looking for someone to join me on the trip. Thank you Victor. Boy you don’t play around! Look at your plating technique. All fancy and professional, just like the cooking shows. Are you starting your own cooking show?! Very beautiful.

This is the 1st. time I've. seen a huge Halibut Fish being caught by a hook, Halibut is my favorite type of fish, & they are usually found in the bottom of the ocean, too difficult to catch them by a simple fishing rod, excellent video, I liked your recipe, but it's better baked than fried. I shared your video for my little young nephew, who lives in Jordan, and he loves fishing, using a fishing rod, always he's asking me to buy him a fishing rod from Vancouver, Canada to practice his hobby in the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea. Even though fishing is prohibited in the Gulf of Aqaba, by both Jordanian & Israeli Governments, because the water is too polluted, Surprisingly, my nephew is only 8 years old, & he's crazy about fishing, I love to visit Alaska, but I am too afraid to drive over from Vancouver, Canada to Alaska , because of the many bears in the area, I was encountered once in Alberta with a black bear, I saw death in front of my own eyes, but I managed to escape safely, in my car, I will fly over from Vancouver, B.C. & rent a vehicle there & tour the area, It's safer this way. Enjoy your catch. You are an excellent Chef, High thumb up for your video.

Really fun watching y'all catch those giant Halibut; and cudo's to the Captain and his crew for putting y'all on all those fish. Alaska is such a special place; from the special fish to the birds, from the bears to the moose, like no other place on earth. And, the Halibut really gave your culinary skills a chance to shine. Y'all produced a really great, entertaining video; fishing in beautiful Alaska, then preparing a meal shared with your friends and family. I'm sure looking forward to getting back up to Alaska again next summer, need more Halibut, Rockfish, Lingcod, King Salmon, etc. Tight Lines, Y'all !!!

This is going to sound weird but here goes 🤣. Not like you guys belong to us "you YT viewers and esp Fla Native viewers", But every time you're away on a CC&C trip, I always feel so much better when you guys are back in your own kitchen doing the "cook" portion of the video. I don't know why but its such a different feeling for me. Thanks again Vic, Brook, and family!
