MASSIVE 10ft Tuna... We Broke a Record! (Commercial Bluefin Tuna Fishing)
Вставка

- We took a trip up to Boston, Massachusettes to fish for Giant Bluefin Tuna with Capt Scott Campbell of Boston Fishing Frenzy Charters. We were commercial fishing for Bluefin Tuna which means we can only keep fish over 73in long. We ended up catching a boat record setting fish weighing over 800lbs and nearly 10ft long! This fish went to a local fish market and will be sold. We walk you through the entire process of how giant bluefin tuna are caught and sold commercially in the U.S. Despite what you may see on TV, Bluefin Tuna don't sell for tens of thousand of dollars advertised. the media has sensationalized this fish and even claimed they can sell up to a $1,000,000 which is simply not true. The fish we caught will most likely sell between $3-$10lb with a 651lb core ranging from $1,800-$7,000 total. This fish was a new boat record! Scott had caught a 107in fish a few weeks prior and this one came in at 115in.

The marbling on that tuna was looking pretty nice!
New camera ?? Great video all the way around but the quality was top Tier 👍🏾🤙🏾
I’ll bet that fish weighed more. My brother got a 120” fish that weighed 1012 lbs un dressed. Not a commercial fish.
Had a blast fishing with you and Denes. Pumped for year 2 🤫
Just hooked up to my first tuna here in south fl. Have a entirely new respect for these videos. Doesn't represent the amount of effort and hard work it takes to catch these fish. One recommendation would be to throw Dennis on xl fish just so the average person can see how it is lol
What's truly amazing to me is the strength of fishing line. For such a thin tether to capture an animal that size is just astounding.

Wow, what an incredible video! The entire experience, from the intense battle with the giant bluefin tuna to the step-by-step process of catching, preparing, and processing the fish, was so fascinating. The teamwork, the patience, and the adrenaline-packed moments really made it feel like a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The effort put into each step, especially with the close-up shots and expert narration, made the entire fishing journey so immersive. Congrats on breaking the record with that massive 10ft tuna, truly an unforgettable moment!
As a commercial fisherman in Alaska i once again see fishermen screwed over by the market and the buyers. Amazing fish none the less! Nice job and thanks for sharing.
Right.. $3 a pound?? That’s insane. Small bluefin with like no fat sell for $20 a pound all day.
As fisherman shame on u for catching big fish and not releasing it very short sited

WHAT !!?? I am 65 years old and fished offshore my whole life in South Carolina, and have fished the Bahamas, and the S Pacific from Tahiti to Tonga to Fiji and to kill a fish that majestic for $3 a pound is a criminal act. I have witnessed the degradation of so many fisheries first hand in my lifetime and that shit is out of control. Get your money chartering and release those beautiful monsters to breed for the health of the Bluefin population. This is inexcusable. Sorry but that is the TRUTH....
Yes sad very sad!
Sad to see a magnificent fish of that size be slaughtered in such a fashion. The pleasure is in the catching agree the fish should have been released to come back in a few yrs weighing probably over a 1000.
Have to agree, I couldn't bring myself to kill something like that.
Their methods show a lot to be desired 😮@@shahnawazvlog6266
It is not the truth, it is your opinion. Your opinion is worth as much to me as mine is to you. The northern hemisphere tuna fishery is expanding. I live in the UK and our trawlers are seeing schools the likes of which haven't been seen in two generations. For the first time in five decades tuna is a landable by-catch so long as it was not a targeted species. The European scientific bodies who feed information to government agencies are suggesting it will be a suatainably fishable species within a very short timescale subject to strict quotas. Heck an inshore British fisherman in a 16 foot boat caught and released two blues in a day. As a youth joining our trawling industry 35 years ago the Irish tuna fishery was a legend told by 'the old boys'...now we have charters from a considerable number of ports offering tuna with a high success rate. Damning the hard work of fishermen and scientists who revived a population from the brink to sustainability in a lifetime is just plain wrong. It has been proven time and time again in aquatic and terrestrial conservation that if you remove the economic value of a species the impetus for conservation declines, fishermen (as opposed to anglers) and their governing bodies and guardian bodies are not going to fund research if you make them an unfishable species. That is my opinion, backed by research and direct observations made personally whilst at sea.
Ken Fraser in 1978 caught 1496 pds. still the best record . never being broke, Great video Vicktor, keep up up the good work!
I can't even imagine seeing that in person!
Back then I would have been catching tuna from land today cang even catch anything because of guys like him back then
October 1979
I went fishing in PEI in '19 and my captain told me that in '18 he got a #1298 and he said he lost one that same day that was easily over #1500. I don't expect Fraser's record to be broken any time soon but they're there. That day I went, we got a #975 and a #750 (approx.) They told me that they can only keep 1 fish a year per license holder...sometime years more/depending. They kept the #975 and got $21lb for it.
If I catch a 1500 pound tuna, I would also never be broke again...
Back in 1973 I was invited on a commercial boat we most likely fished in the same deep canyons as you, the Captain used rope in a basket not rods I thought it was a joke at first maybe being teased. So I baited with dead Mackerel I think the weight was 30 oz of lead with a plastic bottle tied about 20 ft from the bait maybe more. I had just let a new bait over then tied a 20 lb mono line to the and attached to a rail this served as a quick snap to wake you up and that a fish was on, after several hours we harpooned this giant and after getting in the boat I measured it as about 10 ft.
WE took it to most likely the same fish market the weight was 896 lbs then t they cut off the head and tail the weight was 700 lbs even after the block and tackle weight of 5 lbs. They quickly iced the meat packed in a crate and it was on it's way to Logan airport and shipped to Japan, the price was $ 2.35 a lb $ 1,645 total price I thought the price today would be much higher. The day we went out there was like 70 boats fishing including the religious group the " Moonies ".
Thanks for such a great video, at 83 it brought back such memories.
$2.35 in 1973 dollars is approximately $18.50 in today's dollars. Yeah this guy definitely got screwed on his fish.😂

Great catch..!!!! In 2012 we caught 7 Bluefin. We sold one 400 lbs for $10,000 dollars to a Miami restaurant owner. We kept 2,500 pounds in 3 freezers for years to eat….!
Selling directly to a restaurant is the best for the fishermen, unfortunately very few restaurants want a fish this big
In NORWAY, you can catch 1 pr year, and it has to be the first one you get.
"The American Dream" = *The Worlds Nightmare*
@@loffarenerik2914 well its a good thing no one cares about yall
@@Broletariatt96 You're a very unreflected human being.
Selling directly blue fin tuna to restaurant is illegal. Federal license requires you to sell to a dealer. Some fun facts
My first time fishing with my dad for bluefin, we fished on a charter for a full day spend lots of money and didn't even get one bite, when the Capt. said 'Reel em in" my dad yanked his poll as if to pretend he got a hit and what do you know the line started screaming louder than I ever heard it. We followed it with the boat for a while and the Capt. said it is most likely a shark and we should cut the line. My father was not trying to here it. We sat the Capt. down and told him to keep quiet and no matter what the fish is at least we would be about to say we caught something other than bait. After about an hour and a half you can finally see the Bluefin Tuna foul hooked at the middle of his sharp hard boney tail. Everyone thought that catching and landing this fish would be a miracle but little did they know me and my dad and the other 4 guys that we invited on this trip caught bluefins in the canyons with our regular 27foot SportCraft Cuddy with twin Yamahas 250s,
I have a question I fished the Canyons off of New Jersey for many many years everything from the Hudson Canyon all the way down to the Baltimore Canyon and I'm curious what Canyon were you fishing in for this trip. Thank you
@@n40tom Our personal boat is parked in Queens NY, we live 15mins from the dock and since Capt. Mike left (a huge party/charter boat that's docked in Sheepshead bay now I believe) from Howard Beach we now have the biggest boat in our channel and dock in Capt. Mikes old spot behind Lenny's Clam bar. My dads on his 10th boat since 1985 and our Luhrs has twin diesels so we no longer charter a boat to go offshore (about 90 miles usually). We have to go through Jamaica bay and under the marine parkway bridge to get to sheepshead bay and then go around breezy point across from Verrazano Bridge and passed Ambrose channel where all the Tankers and Shipping boats stop before being aloud into the Verrazano bridge passed the yellow bouy where the gambling boats go from Brooklyn. We fished all over even went on a charter for Halibut in Alaska and did the 3 day Tile fish trip on the Viking Star Fleet from Montauk. If you don't believe me we have the whole fight recorded but I forgot the name of the charter boat we were on which is weird because we use to use that same capt. for most offshore trips before we got our Luhrs. We can see sandy hook as we go around Breezy point.

I am real familiar with the boat brand Luhrs I had a 37c Silverton for many years but I never ran the Canyons in that boat it didn't carry enough fuel for me. Been to the blue water in quite a few friends boats many many times in boats ranging from 27 ft to a 65 ft Viking . Take care and be safe.
@@n40tom Even our 27ft SC W/A cuddy had a 180 gallon tank I believe which was more than enough to get to the canyons with twin 2 stroke 250s.. now that we have a diesel the boat barely burns any fuel unless it is choppy out. Thank you and tight lines!

I thought it was a clickbait shot too...unbelievable camera & crew work!
Three dollars a pound for a magnificent fish like that is just not right! Someone, somewhere down the line is making a killing and it sure ain't the fisherman. I don't get why you would even harvest a fish like that for that paltry amount of money. I sure hope these guys ended up near the ten dollar a pound price. I wonder what Adam from Moving Weight would think of these prices.
Fluctuating and goes up and down depending on time of year, etc.. I’ve seen it as high as 12 to 14.
Smaller fish get a better price per pound normally, but that’s seem pretty lowball.
3 dollars isn't bad. Afew years ago buyers weren't taking them. If they did it was 99c a lb. It was cheaper to use tuna as lobster bait then actual bait
it's a sad reality but perhaps people have been catching on to the fact that due to bioaccumulation, these big apex predators are full of heavy metals and dioxins. No fault to the fishermen. It's a sad state what we have done to the oceans with coal power etc.
Unfortunately the fishermen gets the short end of the stick
The amount of power that fish had is unbelievable. Good catch

Seem criminal to take such a mature fish. Sad
On the contrary. Better than non mature fish. Besides, where do you think the tuna for your sushi comes from? Unfortunately not from small boats like this, but from fleets who fish the oceans empty. With nets which damage the sea floor and tons of other species who die for nothing.
No it's not. Take the young instead and let this one just dye on it's own? This size of boats/ fishers treat the environment was better than the big fishing ships..
Don't eat fish then.
What's sad is the low price for big fish

Agree. It could go on to spawn and make many more Bluefins. All is not bad though, the Bluefin has returned to England and Scandinavia - likely by NOT killing so many of these magnificient fish. @@borisweer2233the giant hook on a stick that you stab into the fish to get it into the boat
Yea I had to look away
I bet you golf a lot... certainly not a fisherman and certainly not for big fish like this. While I understand how it might look insensitive of gruesome but that's a perfect shot. It is nowhere near anything normally consumed as opposed to gaffing a fish in the meat and having the blood spoil an area- one of the top priorities for landing commercially valuable fish. It is also a soft spot amongst hard gill plates and head/jaw where the gaff can easily stick and stay, and it is a natural hole thru the skeletal structure so there is plenty of holding power. The final benefit is that occasionally it ends up with the gaff hitting the brainstem or spine, and when a fish gets spined like that it immediately ends it. The idea is like unintentional Ike Jime and the immediate termination of signals in the spine has huge positive effects on lactic acid and other internal chemistry issues as well as those regarding the effects of a fish's muscles to spasm or it to slam around on the deck.
So it may not be pretty, thats decent gaff placement
Got to be wild to catch. Cheers from FL ~Panzik Artistry
