Neither can you. And if it weren't for religious people. We would have solved death. Scientists know aging and cancer are a multitude of errors in our cells, that will be fixed, in 2 more generations. Thank you so much, for SLOWING down science for thousands of years, and are responsible for killing me and my children, because you can't snap out of a fantasy! But. you wouldn't dare to realize your grandchildren will stop aging at 30. And explore the cosmos, You killed us. You should sure feel ashamed. What took so long for science to advance? Why didn't Abraham accept the rich man's plead? Because scaring people with the fear of hell, doesn't lead them away from hell, it leads them to it, because if a man from heaven came and told me about how horrible hell is, I would not be good for God's sake or for Goodness sake, I would be good for my sake, and when I feel I am moraly good enough to not go to hell, I will look down at others people with arrogance, and thinking I am deserving of heaven because of my good works, not because of Christ who saved me.

I do not care about any religion, I care about science and I care about humanity. I am sorry that you feel that without threat of eternal torment or the promise of a life after death people cannot do anything good, to me that is very dehumanising and I think we are better than that. Morality exists outside of your religion and the god of the Bible is most certainly not moral, by attempting to refute Einsteins quote on this you are pretending that nothing good has ever been done without belief in a heaven or hell. What about the 93 percent of scientists in NAS who are atheists and agnostics? You are ignoring their essential contribution to society.

One of the reasons I do not like religion is because, in my experience, many people treat their beliefs and the major tenets of their religion as beyond reproach when in actuality they can't claim to know the mind of god or any other creature. This speaks to the overall power and control that religion exerts quite successfully, in my opinion. To question, which is a natural human habit, means you are a dissenter. To have full on doubt means to blaspheme. This is all about control. This is what dogma does. However, as long as you do not attempt to shove your own beliefs down my throat, and vice versa, I think there is infinite room for mutual respect in the differences.

I see God in nature, when I walk on trails, if I see the mountians, a thunderstorm. About 20 years ago, while on a walk, I picked up two pine cones, just ordinary pine cones. They sit on my desk at home to remind me of God's awesome power, of not just creation, but that He is in control of all things and that one day His Son, Jesus Christ, is coming back here to earth. So, I guess it would be my faith in Christ. There is a Bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
You see, Christ aways have good thoughts towards His people, they are never evil. It doesn't mean that things may not get tough, but He will always be there to help us get through those times.

Forget religion, and forget that I’m mentioning god for now.
We need to establish the principal of how we got here first.
Some would say that we evolved from apes, some would say we evolved from Fish through apes and then cavemen.
Some would say that we came from bacteria, made with the same moral values of atoms and particles as that bacteria from many millions of years ago...
The question is, how far back do we want to go? It’s like a domino effect; there had to be a cause to push the first domino, and there has to be a final domino to end the sequence, no matter how long this chain of dominos is, even if these dominos extended to the skies and the universe, it cannot be infinite.
If something was infinite, it wouldn’t have existed in the first place because there would have been nothing to cause it in the first place..
When’s the last time we as human beings discovered any example or model or build or product to be infinite?
What’s your opinions on how we got here? I think that should be the starting point, in order to establish the most accurate possibility... :)

Hi Joel! :) why is it wrong to have hope? why is it right to think you are just screwed if it didn't happen good for you here..no one chose where to be born and the circumstances of that. There has to be a balance otherwise it's a lopsided universe we live in and I'd rather end it right here for myself because for every issue I face, someone is getting the best in a similar situation. My every loss is someone's gain and my every gain is someone's loss. No one deserves to be a loser without having done something wrong to deserve that. Scales have to balance and its not very logical to understand (in my opinion) that while nearly everything else in the observable universe around us is in a perfect balance..just we are not and will never be?!

Pedro Silva “...trying time prove they existed.” This is incorrect. Science is not trying to prove god exists or doesn’t exist in general (when you look at all the research happening). So your statement is wrong there.
Atheists generally ask for proof but they are not trying to prove god exists. So your statement is wrong here.
Theists state and have faith which does not require proof. Therefore theists are not actually trying to prove god exists. The closest you generally come is some trying to build a logic statement that tells you why they are convinced but that is not nor is it seeking proof, it’s an explanation. So your statement fails here.

“You think people don’t believe what you do because they don’t understand it.” You committed a strawman. You are clearly referencing a supposed belief I have in Christianity. I’m not a theist, no a Christian. So yes, you being illogical is pathetic.
“...how becoming an atheist made her less selfish.” Actually she didn’t she said she valued life (very indeterminate of what this means, most likely living life as if there is no tomorrow which tends to be selfish) and valued people around her (again this is pretty indeterminate, it could be respecting people, it could be caring for them but given the post where she tries to bash Christianity and christians, it likely is not a selfless statement). And statistics show that atheists are less caring and concerned with others - giving, volunteering based on surveys are all significantly lower for atheists on average.
“Such Shite from a Christ follower.” Again another strawman. You really need to challenge your indoctrinated views before looking as pathetic as you do here.
“Maybe you’re the one who doesn’t understand the teachings that well.” Nice childish “I know you are but what am I” type retort when you have no evidence to support this - just casting knives. Not so ironically very selfish of you.

I recognise that everyone has their own "god" and not everyone's god is that same as the next persons.
However.. I don't believe there is a god.. as I never made an agreement between God and Jesus themselves..
I don't need to recondition my self beliefs everytime with a book... Of if in a time of need.. reach for a book to confirm within myself, the way truth and light.
Seriously.. religion isn't even that important in this day and age as it doesn't hold a bearing on today's currently standing.. remember.. that book was written from a long time ago.. honestly who can say when it was written.. and secondly, who can honestly trust a rewritten support base from such a long time ago.. I'm strictly sticking with religion in this part.
Atheism is a choice individuals make as they simply don't by into bullshit.
If you're angry about my opinion on things.. that's ok.. you have a god to turn to to allieviate your stress and to pray for me would be a useless task as the blessing would go to the wayside as the ideals you hold aren't relevant to me.. remember, I don't follow religion and support my ideals by an invisible "entity" located in such a far place that we can't even see him/her.. and people also believe that God is a male..
How can an omnipotent entity be labelled with such mortal inclinations..
God and Jesus were apparently the same thing, yet to two separate entities.. Jesus used a scientific form of procreation to get Mary pregnant.. look it up.. frogs have the ability to do it.
Anyway.. if Jesus and God were determined to be actually beneficial and provide a book to help people, why did it not include the shape.of the earth we are bonded too?

Gnostic means that you do know. So only a gnostic atheist claims that they KNOW that no gods exist. And agnostic atheist say they aren’t convinced a god exists but they don’t KNOW that no gods exist. I have seen with my own eyes how experiments work and I know that the scientific community is fiercely competitive and critical of each new finding. I am allowed to be skeptical of everything that they discover, and I don't have to believe any of it if I don't want to. Science is not a religion, there is no worship. If anything it is a business, where only the strongest and most credible ideas survive. I personally don't believe anything until I've tested it myself or had it explained to me in detail.

@@vince6252 Well, in my opinion, every healthy religon does ask questions. St Augustine once said - once you think, ir have an image of or think you figured out God, you can be certain it's not God, it's only your idea. And, that is what is major case of religion today. In the past it was supposed to be mistery that made you curious about everything, today it's meant to simplify and make life clear, it's to be a simple guidebook...and so often, what is offered is not a journey, a quest, or searching, but someone's idea of God.
Some would say that, what is offered is dogma, but that is not what dogma is. Dogma was starting point, and if one looks at the dogmas of early Church they weren't designed to make thing clear, they were made to guard agains what made thing clear. For example - person of Jesus, it would make it easier to say that he was only an enlightened human being, or that he was simply God with human mask. By claiming fully human and fully divine, it made most difficult, most "absurd" idea a dogma. It wasn't accident, it was on purpose. It was not to set limits, it was to erase them. It was not to stop asking, it was made to continue asking.

(Very interesting you would include _totalitarian capitalism_ within your argument. Perhaps you should have thrown socialism, and communism in there too). Yet not relevant to the conversation at hand(Rick, and his adopted beliefs).
Whilst you may posses no belief within or against religion, you are certainly guilty of; ignorance, (non-religious)faith, delusion, arrogance, making assumptions, and possessing an opinion. This is due to the fact you’re human.

We are all agnostic, as we simply do not know(and there’s every chance we never will).
I like to think I question everything(although unlikely, as we take a lot on faith). However, I’m open to rationale thought, that can provide credible evidence.
Our opinions of Rick are subjective, therefore your opinion of him is just as valid as mine, even if I choose to disagree with it.

      @peterkoed9673 6 років тому +9

The reason is acturely simple. Because it can't be done easily.
      Think of it this way.
If a child asked you to explain the atom, you would give IT a very simple answer, not talking about how protons are made up of kvarts etc. You only go into that detail, egen seeking research yourself, or taking a long education.
Could i give you an answer to why believing in a god, makes sense? Yes i could. But i won't. It would simply take me too long.
But why? Well, there are 2000 years of religious philosophy for me to go over, each taking and aspect og life and asking questions related to the god question itself.
To say that religion is simple and just silly, Days more about the persons knowledge than anything else. Its like hearing a glat earther dismissing evidence, just because the notion of standing on a huge ball is counter intuitive.
Many that belive in a religion, don't know anymore about its deeper arguments for a god, that a highschool student knows about kvarts in atoms. But that does not mean that there aren't well made arguments for a specific religion.
The great issue is, that er treat religion as a child subject. But IT really isn't. Think og the holy Trinity. Many adults don't get it, so how can a child? The result is that many think they know a lot more about religion than they really do.
So i agree that children should not be exposed to religion any more, than to how atoms behave.
But unikke others i think it would make more believers, and more self undestood believers.
      Hope that answer the question.

Cliff No doubt that the Universe (as we know it) is beyond our comprehension how it exists and what it is exactly as the explanations such as 'Big Bang' are so simplistic in their base that its probably something beyond our ability to even understand. My question is why do Humans always have to personify everything. Why would it be one 'GOD' who has conscious thoughts like Humans. And therefore who created that GOD ? I would see it more likely to be a force of some kind or a natural force like the Wind or the Light. Something beyond our comprehension as opposed to a personified GOD.

Peter Koed How can Relgious believers explain geographical location? Do Religious believers really think that if they were born in a different country where a different religion is more prevelant that they would not have followed? The base of what I am saying is that it is not the Specific Religion which is important, it is your education and what you are exposed to. The millions of christians in America if they were born in India they would not have the education to have a choice. Therefore the whole thing is a fallacy and a lottery based on where you were born. Unless you believe that your GOD specifically chose to concentrate everyone in One specific area of the World and every other part of the World are sinners and going to hell. Its obvious what Religion was used for. It was used t control people in a good way and give them a guideline of Morals at a time when there was barbaric behavior and a lack of education. And it worked as people who fear doing the wrong thing will act within the law without needing constant governance. Religion was a genius Idea at the time and created boundaries for people. It was not to be taken literally It was a stop gap implemented before Countries became educated and civilized. The Amazing Men/Women who wrote the Bible wrote and used the stories almost like we use stories to warn children of certain situations. They knew that what they were writing was not all factual but they knew the uneducated masses needed answers and a simple explanation for their lives. It was genius but is so completely unnecessary in today's world where Education is accessible. We should still use a form of the Bible today with simple stories with simple messages for very small children but certainly not for Adults.

Pierce Morgan bit proves once again that the main driving force of religious belief is fear of death. It's our ultimate fear, one we find really hard to let go of and emancipate from. People's egos don't let them see things as being finite, they think they are entitled to eternal life. I guess decades of great things to experience in life counts for nothing? I find the idea of eternal life in fact very sinister and distrubing, as you don't get to have a sense of closure, it just goes on and on. And btw I don't think people ever try to concieve how would eternal life actually work. Since it relies on the idea of a soul being separated from the body, it would seem that it would look nothing like our real, physical lives and it seems that it would boil down to being just aware and having counciousness in a sea of energy, something immaterial. Does it really sound promising, and for that matter, fulfilling and fun?

bob deeb Atheism is someone not believing in any religion. If they all got together and invented their own God to challenge other gods to a fist fight or something illogical such as that, you'd have a point. It's the act of not believing in anything from lack of proof any God, out of the thousands worshipped throughout time will meet us when we die.
I personally don't think we're important enough for some magical almighty being to wait on us like a drive through window at a fast food restaurant. That's a human belief making us seem more important than we are. That's my two cents at least.

I use to be a Christian. All my life was doing things because of fear I was going to hell. I was constantly scared I didn't pray enough times a day. I needed to memorize the bible. It was the constant fear that even if I was a nice person, I would be suffering for all eternity if I didn't worship a being enough. Now that I'm atheist, I feel much better. I'm not constantly scared anymore. I hold my own morals without a book telling me to do so. I treat others with respect and kindness more than I ever could with the bible. One of the best decisions of my life.

I just believe that god exist and you go to hell or heaven at the end depending on you action more good or more bad. The good news is that is not what will happen. Be honest with yourself and admit that it's nonsense. You seem to be half the way there. You have no connection to the Bible and its teachings. Religion did not come from man. I understand your argument, but it is based in the assumption that God was created. I believe, and others of course, that it is the opposite. God created us. Another point is that if it was man made, than how can the Bible have predicted things such as empires, dinosaurs, and other historical and scientific evidences. My point is that man made religions have massive, fundamental flaws within them. Buddhism, Hinduism, and other man made religions all have shaky beliefs that are contradictory. Fundamentally, Christianity is perfect, in the sense that it all works together and is not contradictory.

As a child I lived in abject fear of what would happen to me when I died. I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep. It wasn't the fear of hell I worried about, it was the idea of having to worship a god for all eternity, or the concept that I was stuck, as a product of my birth, to an eternity of consciousness. A world without beginning, without end, amen.
As my indoctrination wore of, I took great comfort in now knowing that there would be an end for me; that there was a beginning to the universe and that there will be an end, even if it is a few trillion years off. The knowledge of an end has given me great comfort, far more than any god could. A god who would cast me into a pit of fire for all eternity because I didn't worship him in exactly the right way while I was alive.
As for those who would say I have no morality because it can only come from a god I say: Who has a greater sense of morality? A person who does good things because they love their fellow man and want to contribute to the common good of others ; or, the person who does things because an invisible man in the sky is watching and to not do so will cast him or her into a lake of fire?
And if you think the bible is the gold standard of morality, you clearly haven't read the fucking thing.

I am not involved in the question of "growing up a human being", that's another issue, but as a physician i have to say something about belief and faith.
Since the very beginning of my medical education, i have been reading the anatomy, physiology, pathology, embryology, internal medicine and surgery sections (and so on) over and over and over again... Why? Because it's very hard to learn but quite simple to forget.
You just begin with the huge and thick anatomy books like Grey's, Sobotta or Netter. Arteries, veins, nerves, lymphatics, bones, cartilages, ligaments, fascias, muscles, organs and systems... Then you read physiology to learn "how it goes?" and pathology for "what happens if it doesn't go well?"
Exams, oral exams, practices, labs, electives... Congrats! You deserved it, my dear medical practitioner colleague!
If you want to learn further, you must get your residency within 4, 5 or 6 years more. Well done, you are a specialist.
For instance, as an "eye specialist" you treat patients with "glaucoma", "cataracts", "myopia", "optic neuritis", "dry eye" etc. But you forget many things about "pediatrics", "obstetrics" and "neurology". These things were your nightmares when learning them before.
I will tell you one amazing physiological fact, that you weren't aware of before... Your anal canal has two sphincters: the external and the internal. External sphincter is controlled voluntarily but the internal is involuntary-controlled. Why is that? Simple. Because, when your stool goes down in your colon, the internal one relaxes and warns you: "you must go to bathroom!" And when you are ready to defecate, you unloose your external sphincter. If it were involuntary, you would shit under your pants...
Billions and billions of knowledge and amazing processes that all of doctors learned and forgot, had been, has been, is and will be functioning...
How could it be possible that an involuntary mechanism leads to an intentional process? Is it supposed to be unconscious? Let's just say only one, but how about those hundreds of physiology mechanisms?
I respect your opinion, but I do believe in God, sir.

    • @ulvibediroglu227
      @ulvibediroglu227 4 роки тому +1

@Edward The Booble "What did it matter before we had pants?" That means you say: "it didn't matter when we hadn't pants before" (first of all, how do you know about the pants of the very first creatures, maybe they were using some clothes with swab or linen?). Ok, let's say it didn't matter and for a long time they all were naked and unconscious, the question remains still there, "how could it be possible - not only for one but for all of those mechanisms - that intentional processes take place?" Shouldn't have been driven unconsciously? Why is this "triggering" and conversion into precise improvement unlike the rule of entropy of the universe?
      Incredulity?
1- Philosophy wields questions to ask much more, not to find a conclusion. "What is knowledge?" and "how is knowledge determined?'... Plato says "justified true belief", Kant says "a priori/a posteriori, synthetic/analytic"etc.. but there is no definite conclusion inside the philosophy.
How can it be possible to find "the most accurate" answer?
If you don't and can't know the answers of those questions above, when even the philosophy itself uses the term of "belief" in describing of the knowledge and the truth, how can you be "sure" of incredulity will present you the answer?
2- How about science? Is science more reliable and accurate than philosophy itself? If so, how much can you say the percentage is? One hundred percent? How can you justify the experiments entirely with your "subjective observation" or "accepted norms"?
We all human beings are made up of senses and feelings, in addition to brain and nervous system. Therefore, whatever the conclusion that you arrived at is, can not be doubtless.
That's why, we always say "belief". Not just for religion but for also philosophy or science, you believe or not, that's up to you.
What if I believed in God before medical school, does it make me credulous? Do you know how the process of believing was and is for me? I was born to a Muslim family, do I really need to abandon the religion before being incredulous and skeptic, or is it possible to ask questions anytime and everywhere? I am a human like everyone, I have so many questions about the earth, life, rules, accidents, justice and injustice, belief, truth and so on...
Whenever I look somewhere, I see an intention, a complicated but well-working modality. If you don't accept that, I'm ok with it,
But if you have a claim that includes any other possible solution without God, you may answer those questions above.
      Sincerely.

Tut tut tut. Tome for jones to get schooled again.
NO. The claim is "Gods were named and invented by man". Lets even grant you that applies to all gods that have ever been named by humanity. Even the ones that humans made up and named that we don't even know about.
How does that make it a claim that no gods exist?
You seem to be forgetting the prospect that there is a god that no human has ever conceived of. The question of humanity correctly identifying a god, the question of humanity making up and naming gods and the question of whether there is such a thing that would count as a god if we could concieve or even identify it, are separate questions.
This Jones, is just another example of how you rush in with an opinion, desparate to put others down, but all you do is cock it up.
Fallacy of composition. The claim that the status of "made up" applying to all gods conceived of by humans means that the claim also applies to all gods NOT conceived of by humans.
There are other flaws in your bungled attempt to assert that you are intellectually superior, but that will do for now.

He said “gods”, you try to limit this to gods that have been named, where did he limit it, as he didn’t. Gods means all gods and concepts of gods (because he didn’t limit it to named gods). So yes this said no gods exist to him. Which is fine. I just want to understand when he clearly admits that and may consider himself and atheist why he feels other atheists (like you) run and hide from this concept.
I already know you are intellectually stunted where it took forever for you to admit you believe god doesn’t exist (remember you said you had made up your mind that there was no god).

Actually, no. The karmic laws of causal effect after action, are true to physics as to spiritual matters. It is not a choice to believe that punishment will follow wrongdoing; and consequence in direct proportion to any cause: good or evil. It is perfectly reasonable (and it stands to pure logic) that if one is a jerk one will reap the hells of ostracism from the heaves of social joys. (It's really all allegorical.) Scriptures are only poetic ways to simplify the inescapable laws of cause and effect. And if you do not "believe' in them, that is what is a choice; as this fact is written all over the inner walls of common sense as proven by experience. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, in force relative to time and energy: pleasant thoughts and words and ideas yield likewise responses from people; negative ideas, bitter thoughts and hurtful words will likewise reap the thorny vine of that harvest. So it is really a causal and consistent thing. And it's a lot more universally reasonable than just some overblown superstition. Heaven and Hell are really absolute manifestations of boundless elation versus boundless suffering. They are not geographical locations where to experience eternal punishment or reward. They are states that dwell deep in the recess of sentient consciousness-reaping the fruit of its own free will. Heaven or Hell are the offspring of your Choices-and they happen here on Earth, hiding in plain view inside each and every one of us.

The battlefield is your flesh! :) - armies of pleasure that conspire against the highest manifestation of your ideal Self. Simple, really. And truly, what drunkard or sloth or jealous killer could argue against the fact tat that his fate is dark because of his own doing?:) It's always personal. And I'fe found that it is also a lot simpler than our fear proposes-granted we are willing to look inward: we are intimately linked to that elemental cause-we are its living consequence. The origin is hiding at the core of our truest selves (whatever that might be).

I think you are confusing belief with commitmemt to the tennents of that belief or, in the case for atheism, the strength of the reaction to the imposition of alternative beliefs.
Atheism does not address the indoctrimation of children by religions. Atheism addreses the existence of god. The reaction against religious indoctrination is nothing to do with atheism, it just shows someone has an understanding of human rights. Indocrination of children into anything (including religion) is wrong by definition.
And there are important differences between belief and non-belief, not least the burden of proof. They are not the same.
As for atheism, what is the difference between not beliving in god and really really not believing in god?

    • @nikipedia2818
      @nikipedia2818 6 років тому +4

Atheism is not a belief. it is a lack of a belief. Would you claim not playing tennis is a sport? How about not collecting stamps being a hobby?
If there is a god, what stops you committing crimes? You realise that crimes are committed, right? So the existence of god doesn’t do anything. And you realise that believing in god doesn’t stop crimes? Look at all the Christians in prison. How did the Chinese or South American cultures come up with laws? Same for the Egyptians, Greeks and Roamans.
What you are presenting there is a tiered apologetic that has been long debunked. Maybe you should look at statistics for societal health and religiosity. And the superiority of secular morality.
What makes you think that purpose can only come form a god? You have no justification for that.
And human rights and compassion are not the basis of most religious belief. In the bible, what is the punishment for apostasy? How does that fit with freedom of religion? How should we treat homosexuals? Does the bible contain rules for owning slaves? Are the rules different for Jewish slaves? What did Jesus say about slaves? Are women property of their husbands? If your daughter is raped but the perpetrator is willing to pay the bride price and marry her, what does god say you should do? Why did god flood the world when the population exercised their human rights on freedom of religion? What happened to Catholics after the protestant reformation? How long did it take the Catholic Church to say the Jews were not responsible for the death of Christ?
      And that’s just Christianity.
Sorry, but you are very wrong about religion.

      Are you a good person?
Christianity has bad news and good
news. But first the bad news
GOD sees everything. He knows your
secrets. GOD also hears what comes from your mouth.
"But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an
accounting for every careless or useless word they speak." (Matthew
      12:36.)
Lying is wrong. Masturbation is wrong. Pornography is wrong. Heterosexual sex
before marriage is wrong is also wrong. Homosexuality/Lesbianism is wrong. Jesus
summed up the evilness of our hearts in this way:
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder,
adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. 20These are
what defile a person. (Matt 15.19-20)
If you have committed fornication (and
I have myself), or broken any of the 10 Commandments, then you’re guilty of
breaking GOD’s Law, and therefore we all deserve conscious hell fire forever
      (like the rest of mankind).
But GOD loves you and sent his sinless
Son to be tortured, and die on the Cross, taking the punishment for sinners. 3
days later, Jesus rose from the Grave.
You MUST turn from your sins (stop
sinning), and obey Jesus, and love him with
all your soul, heart, mind and
      strength. Be reconciled with Christ!
      “Seek
      the Lord while he may be found;
      call upon him while he is near;
7let the wicked forsake his way,
      and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isa 55)
He calls on the name of the LORD will
      be saved. (Romans 10:13)
If you became a Christian, you will
      receive
      1. forgiveness of sins, your sins and
      guilt will be blotted out,
      2. GOD himself will dwell inside you,
transform you, speak to you through the Bible and GOD Almighty will live His life through
      you
      3. God will remove your heart of stone
and give you a new heart and a new spirit, with new desires. GOD will rejoice
      in doing you good.
      4. your name will be written in the
      Lambs book of Life,
      5. you will enter the new Earth,
      6. and you will see GOD's face.
      7.. Being
filled with the Spirit, you'll be filled with love, joy, peace,
forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians
      5:22-23)
Otherwise, you will be judged guilty,
      and tortured forever.
This is true, whether you believe it or
not. Your blood be on your own head.
You’ve been lovingly warned. Now you
have no excuse for your sin.

Snaakie first you need to start learning to question your own beliefs and dogma - asking for statistics that prove my statement is incorrect and shows subconsciously you are protecting your beliefs by asking for a higher standard (proof). What you should ask for is evidence.
      The evidence includes
1). gross-domestic-philanthropy-feb-2016.pdf (from cafonline). This shows that the individuals of a first world nation like the US (and fairly religious) give over triple (as a % of GDP) as all the atheistic Scandinavian countries (Finland, Sweden and Norway) combined.
      2) The Philanthropy Round Table which focused on the US in one study shows that the religious on average give $4 to every $1 from the non religious to charity. (Religious even exceed the giving of no religious to purely secular causes). In addition religious volunteer 3 hours on average to every 1 hour of the non-religious.

    • @Snaakie83
      @Snaakie83 5 років тому

@@tjones5719 That's all very convincing "evidence"...if you're an American Christian.
      1. In what world is giving to charity a measurable characteristic for a good person?
Someone can be a child raping murderer and give thousands to charity at the same time. And a Buddhist can comment his whole life to helping others and not spend a single dime. There's simply no factual evidence of any relationship between charity and being a good person.
      2. Up to 15% of US citizens considers themselves atheist. It's possible this 15% make up the biggest part of the amount that's given to charity.
      3. One of the five pillars of the Islam is Zakāt: the practice of charitable giving to others. This is a must to every Muslim, but since it's so common and widespread, it's most likely not documented...making this list incomplete.
The list is all nice, but the conclusion you take out of it is your personal interpretation...
It's so funny to see your need for defending your religion.
I'm so dam happy to live in the Netherlands, where 55% of society couldn't care less about gods.

      Snaakie
      1) “in what world is giving to charity a measurable characteristic for a good person?” Seeing I made no such claim, you seem a bit off. I actually said “not a bad person necessarily, but statistically it is likely you don’t care about others as much.” Maybe stick to what I actually said.
“There’s no factual evidence of any relationship between charity and being a good person.” While I still take exception that I never said good person, this does show your close mindedness to information counter to your beliefs (you just can’t accept it). What this statement (and the one about Buddhists and rapists - was that what you said) says is that you are really looking for proof. That’s a standard you don’t use for anything in your life you believe in but it’s a way to hold a higher standard to the things you want to ignore or discount.
Because as far as evidence goes, giving time and money to others is an indication of wanting to help. Are you saying that all people who give time and talent are not doing it to help others? Because that is what you would need to mean to discount this as not being evidence. You are very illogical in your thinking.
      2. You saying it’s “possible” is an opinion (desperate one at that) not evidence. Provide me evidence...oh wait a minute, I already did. The Philanthropy Round Table data specifically deals with the US and alas, no, atheists are not giving on average as much. Nice desperate try to maintain your uninformed bias.
      3) Why are you bringing up Islam? You realize that any giving undocumented by Muslims would actually further bolster my case if it was documented, right?
“...is your personal interpretation.” Actually no. I said “...don’t care as much about others.” The data supports this conclusion. Look at it, I didn’t say didn’t care at all, I didn’t say you couldn’t be a non believer and still care about others (statistically that is still valid). You really are trying to make up what I said.
“It’s so funny to see your need for defending your religion.” Another view at your faulty beliefs and bias. I don’t have a religion, I’m not a theist. I was only pointing out the incompleteness of your statement.
You didn’t finish your sentence “...where 55% of society couldn’t care less about gods or their fellow humans (statistically speaking).”

When understanding of the universe has become widespread, when the majority of men know that the stars are not sources of light but worlds, perhaps inhabited worlds like ours, then the Christian doctrine will be convicted of absurdity."

And yes...I know what you’re going to say: “ReLiGiOuS pEoPlE kIlLeD pEoPlE aNd StArTeD wArS”

No, I agreed because the more I read the bible being born into a devout Christian family, the more questions I had and the more I became disillusioned with the religion. What lifestyle are you referring to? I work with children, have never been arrested, and am not confused in the slightest where my morals and sense of right and wrong come from. Do you assume that I am no longer a Christian because I wanted to live a depraved lifestyle? Do you think that Ricky Gervais, a successful, well liked, and respected individual is a bad person because he does not worship the same god you do? If your god was the true god wouldn't he deny the fame and wealth Mr. Gervais has earned? If you say he wouldn't then you haven't read your bible because over the course of the new and old testament god has personally put to death himself, or empowered a figure from the bible to kill more than 24,000,000 people including entire cities, men, women, and children. If you believe in that book, more power to you, but that's your prerogative, and I didn't approach you saying what you believe was wrong, but i agreed with someone who said they don't believe in it. Don't attack me because somewhere in your mind my disbelief plants the seeds of disbelief in you, pissing you off.

I was merely stating that many people often become atheistic, because it serves their lifestyle drinking, porn, sex outside of marriage, watch violent films... don't have to answer anyone. Morality is a completely different kettle of fish. But yes atheists don't have a basis for morality.

    • @moediaz7357
      @moediaz7357 7 років тому +12

I wasn't saying don't attack me, I was saying that before you question me and how I live my life you need to be better informed. First of all saying that atheists don't have a basis for morality is one of the most nonsensical statements you can make. Both before and after the bible was written, or as far as you're concerned "came into being" cities and civilizations, hell even small villages of people came together and agreed upon conduct that was acceptable and that which isn't. Ever hear of Hammurabi's code? It's the oldest known written set of laws that has ever been found and predates the bible. It's the Anarchist that doesn't want to have to answer to any kind of moral compass, not the atheist. Of the 620 commandments distributed throughout the bible most are inane dubious commandments like death for working on sunday, death for eating anything from the sea that isn't fish, death for trimming your beard or cutting your hair, if you rape a girl and she's a virgin you have to marry her, and death for wearing garbs or clothes made from 2 types of materials. My point is before you point out what atheists do and do not do, maybe you should actually talk to an atheist or listen to what one of them is saying. Even from your list, everyone in the bible drank wine, porn and violent films aren't forbidden anywhere in the bible, and premarital sex is only forbidden to women. Oh, and men aren't supposed to learn anything from a woman for that matter.
