@muZlimGigachad They didn't get it from medieval heretic hunters, and witch burners that's for damn sure. The bible is no place for ethics or objective morality. An objective morality would be valid for every person regardless of their cultural heritage, political attachment, or faith. Not only is biblical morality unable to offer objectivity, it cannot increase moral responsibility. A religious person must simply submit to whatever rules your God hands down. Believers naturally defend the bible by picking out just the “good” parts. But you could just as well pick out the “good” parts of any large body of literature, from sacred texts to secular novels. Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? -Epicurus (6yrs later) Died over 2000 years ago and his words can still spark this kind of debate. Simply amazing! To the Theist I will say: Before you bring your modern Judeo Christian argument to the table I'll remind you this paradox is older than the Dead Sea Scrolls. To the Atheist I'll say: Epicurus was not himself an atheist. He believed in the existence of the Gods. He simply thought them to be too pre occupied to involve themselves in human affairs. He taught people to act ethically to better themselves not because the gods punish or reward them for their actions.
Owen S If God is infinite then all possibilities exist in him/her/it, even the possibility of evil. We all are so ignorant and stupid: does that also mean that there is no God, because God is presumably all knowing? God is omnipotent because ultimately ignorance and evil are overcome. Three thousand gods throughout history. At least. Religious people dismiss all of them in exactly the same way atheists do. Yet they believe wholly in the one remaining god which, by a recurring coincidence, is the most-popular god in their nation of origin.
As-Salamu Alaikum, dear brothers and sisters, children of our father Adam (AS) and our mother Eve (AS). May the blessings of God be upon all of you. I have come to share with you verse 2:255. Please read and ponder over it; it will benefit you. God! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. ----- Points to Ponder Oneness of God: --- The verse begins by asserting the oneness of God, affirming that there is no deity except Him. Attributes of God: --- God is described as "Al-Hayyul-Qayyum" (the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence). This highlights His eternal life and self-sustaining nature, independent of any need. God's Omnipotence: --- God does not experience drowsiness or sleep, indicating His continuous and perfect vigilance over His creation. Ownership and Sovereignty: Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to God. This underscores His absolute ownership and control over all that exists. Intercession: --- No one can intercede with God without His permission. This points to His supreme authority and the dependence of all creatures on His will. Knowledge of God: --- God's knowledge encompasses all things: the past, present, and future. Human beings, on the other hand, can only grasp a portion of His knowledge as He wills. Extent of His Authority: --- His "Kursi" (often translated as Throne or Seat) extends over the heavens and the earth. This signifies His vast dominion and control over the entire universe. Effortless Preservation: --- The preservation of the heavens and the earth does not burden Him, highlighting His infinite power and ease in maintaining creation. Exalted Status: --- God is described as "Al-'Aliyul-Adheem" (the Most High, the Most Great). This emphasizes His exalted status and greatness above all creation.

As an atheist I never argue my atheism with a theist. I argue theism with them. I ask them why they aren’t in a different religion. That throws them off and doesn’t allow them to control the narrative with their memorized, circular aurguments.
Theists throwing stupid logic thinking that they control the argument is really irritating. It prevents us from making our point and we spend most of our time correcting their logic and misconception.
I am not in a different religious because I believe that the religions I am in is the best of the ones I"ve investigated. It also is accepting of whatever is good in those other religions, so I can adopt practices from those religions as well. All religions are different, but most popular ones agree on many things, not surprisingly. Truth is truth, and a deeper truth is a deeper truth. My own experience is that everyone has a religion, especially atheists. Did you know that in the famed Madelyn Murray O'Hair case, that eliminated faculty-led prayer from the public schools, the atheists bringing the suit insisted that atheism was a religion. Ironically Madelyn was murdered by other atheists, and her son, the subject of the suit, became a Christian in adulthood! So we can ask the same question of you, if you have chosen atheism as your religion, why aren't you in a different religion?
@@joemarshall4226 The whole premise of your argument is false. Atheism has no pope, no tenets, dogmas, or rituals - it is simply non-belief in a deity. Atheism has nothing to do with any social or political beliefs - you can find an atheist on any side of any issue. Religion involves some type of communal practice, or organized worship services, where certain ideas must be accepted (except your religion, where apparently anything goes), and your monetary contributions are expected. Atheism is simply not believing in a God or gods because no god claim has ever met it's burden of proof, at least in the mind of the atheist. To call that a religion is pure sophistry.
@@jimd6641 Well, atheism IS a religion, because atheists insisted it was, and the Supreme Court ruled that it was. And you are doing the same hedging that modern atheists do all the time. You are saying that atheism is just non-belief in a deity. Non-belief due to lack of evidence is agnosticism. Atheism is defined as the BELIEF that there is no God. The way you describe it, your belief could change with better evidence. But many world religions have no god. Confucianism, Taoism, and Shinto among them. Your definition of my religious belief is wrong. Communal practices and organized worship practices are not a must for something to be a religion, Neither is the giving of contributions. And many non-religious groups require contributions....dues, for clubs, etc. I never said anything goes. I said most religions agree on many things, so I can identify with whatever is good about another religion. For instance, the Abrahamic religions all agree that Charity to the less fortunate is good. Buddhism agrees with Christianity about care for the environment. Atheism has not Pope. Well all but one religions has no Pope, so that is not a requirement for a religion, either. As an atheist, the more important question is, "What do YOU, personally, believe in, other than non-belief?"
"Why don't you just stay home?" Translation: You make it difficult for me to maintain my cognitive dissonance, and I'd rather live in comfortable ignorance than with a harsh truth
I disagree. Mr Hitchens, and others like him, seems hellbent on propagating his atheistic views on others, and foisting upon others his limited beliefs. It is possible to conclude that atheists are trying to create their own movement, which can have an effect on the politico-socio landscape. Atheism will soon become a pseudo religion, with Science as its god.

I can't help but think that having summonsed the courage to challenge Hitchens he kinda knew he was about to get an intellectual battering in return. Which he did. Turning to Hitchens' reply, imagine what it must be like to be able to speak so fluently, so elegantly and so knowledgeably, off the top of your head. He was a one-off.

At the age of 12 I realized my moral compass was internally controlled and had nothing to do with the weekly religion that I was taught. The stories I learned were interesting, but were so mystical and magical that they made no sense to my youthful mind, so I suspended embracing religion and sought out why every culture chose these failed types of stories to rule and control the masses.
I had a similar, yet different experience. Up until around age 9-10 I was so devoted to religion I wanted to become a priest. Then, I sat down with my father one day, and he told me: "Why don't I believe? Because it takes about as much logic to say you have invisible Smurfs in your basement as it does to say there is an invisible God somewhere up there." From there on, religion just fell apart for me. Everything stopped making sense. I started seeing how unfair the world was, how much others suffered. Long story short: I renounced my faith around age 11-12, and swore I'd never allow myself to be so deluded again.
True, it was a great burn But if I had to guess, the people most likely to commit crimes (mental health issues, poor life circumstances, looking to retroactively lighten the blow of what they did, etc), are also likely the ones most likely to believe in God
People are so afraid of nothingness. They think it's going to be like being locked in a dark box and have to undergo that for eternity. It's just like before you were born. Nothing isn't bad nore good, nothing is just nothing. Seeing it all end is next best to seeing it begin.
@Kitalia the kitsune It's child abuse. People live a life terrified because a book says if they don't worship the imaginary sky wizard he'll torture them for eternity LOL.
"Just because you cannot explain it, does not mean that it is being driven by mystical magical forces." That alone wipes out the Fine Tuning argument, and the Kalam, and the Complexity argument...pretty much every attempt by apologists to "prove" their religion "scientifically." Thanks, Neil!
One is visible and you can interact with it. One is supernatural and is obviously made to control the human animal as it evolves. Those who are furthest ahead turn away from the fantasy of the past. What's fascinating to me is the pure irony that science seeks and knocks for righteousness and Christians refuse to. Spiritual is viable but it is based in science of the brain operating in a collective with others. Psychology. Anything magical where one must wait till they die is kid stuff. Follow Buddha or Lao Tzu. Perhaps that's what you meant but they need to be differentiated. Religion is living through local programming one did not find on their own. Spiritual is creating your own programming by knowing yourself. Look inward. Not outward.
I would like to give every one of these people a hug. EDIT: Why? Because they embrace reason and critical thought over the assumed conclusion of an invisible man living in the sky.
@Ela Lamblinso you're saying that the fact that people have different skill sets and there are varying levels of skill, those who have never even attempted said skill or those who could be equally as talented but are not famous, is proof of a divine being? It's like you you started off your argument in a car that was missing a wheel, and then all of the other wheels fell off as well but you tried to keep going anyway.
@Ela Lamblin one could argue that Hitchens has done exactly what Zeppelin and Dylan have done. It’s just a different medium. Why did Hitchens have the insights and intelligence he had? Because he sought it and nurtured it as did Zep and Dylan with their talents.

"If god is dead then everything is permitted" Funny how they refuse to grant humans any credit for thinking for themselves. Religion takes away the dignity of others.
That quote has nothing to do with refusing to grant humans any credit for thinking for themselves. If that's what you get from the quote you're infinitely missing the quote. It is pointing out that there is no basis for human ethics or morality if there is no ethical and moral reality above humanity. If there is no moral order in the universe morality is as pointless as it is meaningless.

-----
Points to Ponder
Oneness of God:
---
The verse begins by asserting the oneness of God, affirming that there is no deity except Him.
Attributes of God:
---
God is described as "Al-Hayyul-Qayyum" (the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence). This highlights His eternal life and self-sustaining nature, independent of any need.
God's Omnipotence:
---
God does not experience drowsiness or sleep, indicating His continuous and perfect vigilance over His creation.
Ownership and Sovereignty:
Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to God. This underscores His absolute ownership and control over all that exists.
Intercession:
---
No one can intercede with God without His permission. This points to His supreme authority and the dependence of all creatures on His will.
Knowledge of God:
---
God's knowledge encompasses all things: the past, present, and future. Human beings, on the other hand, can only grasp a portion of His knowledge as He wills.
Extent of His Authority:
---
His "Kursi" (often translated as Throne or Seat) extends over the heavens and the earth. This signifies His vast dominion and control over the entire universe.
Effortless Preservation:
---
The preservation of the heavens and the earth does not burden Him, highlighting His infinite power and ease in maintaining creation.
Exalted Status:
---
God is described as "Al-'Aliyul-Adheem" (the Most High, the Most Great).

Well, according to relative morality it's not inherently wrong to lack empathy or insult others. So if you're an atheist, you better be one that believes in objective morality, like Sam Harris. Like I've said before, relative morality has so many pitfalls to dodge it's just as bad or even worse than all the pitfalls present in claims of ridiculous supernatural magic. Might as well be a nihilist than a moral relativist, unless you want to spend all you time patching up bad arguments.
A few decades ago,a friend asked me if I wasn't afraid to die and be wrong about God and Heaven. I came up with this little story to explain it all to him:
- A Christian, A Muslim and an atheist arrive at the Pearly Gates.
St Peter tells them, "Good News! The three of you get in!"
The atheist thanks St Peter and walks in.
The Christian and the Muslim hold back and ask St Peter, "We don't understand how the atheist got in."
St. Peter says to them, "The two of you did good deeds throughout your life and you said to yourselves 'God will repay me in Heaven'. And that is very true. God will repay you for every good deed plus much more. But the atheist did the same amount of good deeds never believing anyone would repay him at all. Don't you think God wants people around Him that aren't expecting anything out of Him?" -
In Christianity people get to Heaven entirely by believing in Christs sacrifice so you have the story wrong entirely. It is not Christian to expect to be repaid for what you did. Everyone, to me, misunderstands what the term Hell truly is. Hell is a tormented human soul trapped in the decaying remnants of its own body, unable to escape after death due to the absence of faith. When a body is buried six feet under or consumed by flames during cremation, the soul remains imprisoned, doomed to an eternity of darkness and isolation. Faith must be arduously earned throughout life, regardless of religious beliefs. The Bible can guide obtaining this vital faith, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the encroaching shadows. Summary: HELL is only six feet under.
Very true. People pray to make others responsible for what they are not willing to do...help others. It's a cop out over helping make a situation better. You are, of course, entitled to your interpretation. I think the quote from Kubrick speaks for itself, and certainly does not suggest belief in religion - quite the opposite in fact. One can readily look up the interview containing this quote for further context...

He didn't just claim that it poisons everything. He literally proved it with facts and logic! Anyone who fails to comprehend his simple logic isn't worthy of your time or energy. They are inferior on a genetic level, making it impossible for them to mentally fathom complex information.
3:10 I never knew that. I think there needs to be a study on why atheists commit far less crime than the religious. Perhaps it's to do with religious people being more prone to violence?
Christopher Hitchens.....thank you.
Happy Birthday Hitch.. Your words remain although you are sadly no longer with us.
_"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."_ *Marcus Aurelius*
@@John_Lyle this is such an amazing quote!! thank you for this.
Did you notice that the guy that got Hitch-slapped didn’t clap when Hitchens was done… Brutal…LOL
Thats why the Bible says: never clap for Hitchens. Leviticus 30.35
LMAOOO
There was a lady to the left with her hands over her mouth. I think she was having an existential crisis. Or horrified at the least. What happens when your world view is smashed to bits in a few minutes of reason.
@@AndreasDelleske fantastic answer
He probably just caulked it up to blasphemy and continued on in his church, probably spending a lot of time in the confession booth that Sunday and gave a lot of tithings in a offering plate (which is the churches main source of income and says that you have to give 10% of your income). And attended lots of pray service to reaffirm his faith.
A vast majority of religious people are not open to outside criticism of their religion. A vast majority of ultra religious people either grew up in a strict religious household or are trying to atone for something they did in the past (even if it was not wrong at the time) or use it as a crutch to either keep themselves from doing something they used to do that was destructive to themselves or others or show to others that they are better people now (drugs or crime). Most people become religious at the very worst times of their lives (no atheists in a foxhole theory). Few convert when life is going great, though when the bad times end, they will claim it was a reward from their religion and they stay religious on the fear that if they leave their religion the bad times will return.
This video is absolutely amazing. This is what I have been needing for so long. Thank you
