Elvis held Roy Orbison is very high regard, publicly stating that Roy had ' most perfect voice' and referring to him as the 'greatest singer in the world' during one of his Vegas concerts. And Roy's respect was mutual, he went to Elvis' concerts from 1954 to 1976. Roy was the only artist to open for both The Beatles and Elvis Presley. Elvis never recorded one of Roy Orbison's songs, a clear mark of respect in that he did not believe he could better him.
I am 25 years old (1983) and I grow up listing to this song and all Roy Orbison songs from his Mystery Girl CD but even if I didnt grow up listing to it I would still LOVE THIS SONG AND ALL HIS SONGS exepy pretty woman I dont like that song anyway I LOVE THIS SONG (when Roy Orbison sings it) ALWAYS HAVE AND ALWAYS WILL FOREVER! its one of the songs in this world which you can NEVER get tired of!
Even ELVIS said once when asked: "If you could have ONE wish, what would it be?" The King responded without missing a beat: "To be able to sing like Roy."
Thank god for that, that means your still normal because if you start to understand them then you have serious problems 😂👍 congratulations on a well made marriage and best wishes into your future 👍🍻
Dear Muttergesert , My Heart goes out to you , many have all lost so much .. And so many trying to do the best they can to make a difference in this world today .. God Bless you , keep your memories close to your heart . Wish you well
I didn't come to appreciate Roy's incredible talent till after he passed away. Ironically, he passed away on my 33rd birthday in 1988. Never forgotten...now or ever.
I loved this song back in the early 90's when I was a little kid, but I didn't learn who Roy was until I was 24, now I feel like that was wasted time. So beautiful, so deep. It was my grandma who introduced me to him, for which I can't be grateful enough.
That songs sounds quite modern. Considering this was probably Orbison's last hit, I believe he would be still a relevant and experimental artist if he was alive.
In un momento mio particolare mi è giunta a pennello questo Splendido brano vera opera d' Arte grazie mille perfetta. Mi ha accompagnata nel mio momento di delusione ❤
I knew of the existence of this song, but never heard it until now. Orbison is legendary for his voice & his most famous songs, but this belongs right there with the best of them. What a treat for me to finally hear him do this. Astonishing performance, as usual, for him. No matter how many times you hear this, or anything else of consequence he ever recorded, it's still a moving experience just hearing him singing his heart out once again. :)
This is one of the best love songs of all time. It is so well written. The musicianship is superb. Moreover there is Roy Orbisons' range which is tremendous. There should be no doubt that he was one of best singers of the 20th century. He is certainly one of the standards to live up to.
Bono witnessed the recording of the song and recalled: "I stood beside him and sang with him. He didn't seem to be singing. So I thought, 'He'll sing it the next take. He's just reading the words.' And then we went in to listen to the take, and there was this voice, which was the loudest whisper I've ever heard. He had been singing it. But he hardly moved his lips. And the voice was louder than the band in its own way. I don't know how he did that. It was like sleight of hand."
thank God that Bono gave this to Roy.. no one in the world should ever be allowed to sing this song . Roy is a voice from heaven and is pure magic singing it. if this doesn't put a lump in your throat , twist your heart and make your eyes a little wet - your a true heartless person.
Elvis Presley was once asked...If you could sing like anyone in the world, who would it be? He responded with "That's easy, Roy Orbison. K.D. Lang recently said one of her greatest honors was getting a chance to sing with Roy Orbison. Remarkable music by a remarkable man...RIP
I'M GOING TO KEEP MY EYES WIDE OPEN ALL THE TIME, LOOKING ON YT FOR THESE TWO CD'S. I GOTTA HEAR MORE. THANKS ST FOR THE INFO. IT'S NOW APRIL 26TH, AND I'VE FALLEN DEEP IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG AND MUST PLAY AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. MY PREVIOUS FAV RECORDING OF HIS, WAS, "BLUE ANGEL". ROY IS THE SWEETEST HUMAN THAT JUST ABOUT EVER LIVED. A GREAT AND DELICATE AND POWERHOUSE SOUL.
Why did our so called God take this Talanted man away from us and fill he's life with so much pain in losing a wife and son,,,Thank you again Roy Boy again...Go pies for 2011
this song NEVER gets old in my heart etc and will forever touch my heart!! still as beautiful etc as the first time i heard it in 8th of december 1983 (when i was born) and will be forever as such!!!!!! i miss you so much Roy Orbison!!! XXXXXXXXXXX RIP!!!!!

In summer 09 it will be incredible 20 years ago that I heard this haunting song for the 1st time; in a summer camp in former Northern Yugoslavia. On a visit to the city of Ljubljana, I saw the record in a shop - and simply had to buy it; with lots of Dinarjev. That was totally silly as the next weeks I had no chance to play it and then had to take it all the way back to Berlin - But there, I could FINALLY put it on the turntable. And I still do so sometimes today, in soppy moments like this...
His voice reaches into the other side of the human soul & if he were in his life time a painter, then there would not have been a canvas big enough to have shown the emotion in his expression.
@LON009 That is the best compliment for Mr. Orbison ever. I was a very little girl when this song came out. I remember asking my dad if we could go see him "live". I remember him looking at me telling me I would never be able to see him in concert because he had a died a few months before. Perhaps now he is singing for God and God is swaying to that lovely voice.
the finest voice in the history of popular music and this is his finest moment. the best thing bono ever did was give this song to the big O. U2 could never have produced something as glorious as this.
My mum's favourite photo from the late 60s is with her standing next to Roy and the late one from the Rolling Stones when they were touring NZ, she said Roy was the nicest bloke
Thank you for posting this video. This song reflected exactly how I felt about a girl named Nerissa Hosein. Chaguanas Senior Comprehensive class of 1988-89. She was indeed a "mystery girl."
Wow ! This song is breathless, Roy had an angel voice and now he is in heaven. We will never have another singer like him, I am sure a lot of people miss him, I surely do miss his songs. Thanks Big O !!!
This is by far the most beautiful song Roy ever made, and I feel one of the best songs ever made. I fell absolutely in love the first time I heard it and Kudos to Bono the words are haunting and so filled with passion. With Bono writing and Roy singing they created a cosmic symbiosis of complete perfection.
How is it that this incredible song is so hard to find? Bono?...Orbison? Souls from God's heart and what must be Gabriel's voice. If for no other reason, Iwant to go to heaven to sit in the audience :-))
Wow....what a surprise that this song too is written by Bono, I love it, its haunting.....And I am left to burn.....................and burn it to the endddddddddddddd......

I hope you´re free and happy.

One of the greatest songs ever. Roy has recorded many great ones but this is in my opinion his best.
Así es amigo,en 1988 nos dejó Roy...la mejor voz del mundo
