Special Containment Procedures: Containment of SCP-2002 is to concentrate on the coordinated dissemination of misinformation to all organizations and individuals concerned with the discovery, tracking, study, and/or discussion of (mobile) astronomical objects. Special focus is to be put on the manipulation of relevant fringe organizations in order to obfuscate the nature of SCP-2002.

I changed the official title because of youtube - i'm sure you're all used to these restrictions by now but i figured i'd mention it here.
Official title: a dead future

Completely understandable Volgun, still an awesome SCP
Welp just UA-cam being UA-cam. Good video nonetheless
How is "A Dead Future" possibly against any guidelines?
UA-cam...
@@KingFlameHawk because it has "Dead" in it and UA-cams AI hates that word in any context.
Y'know what peeps, let's take a moment here. With both SCP Illustrated and The Exploring Series stating their intent to scale back on SCP content due to less views, let's all be grateful to the OG, the goat, The Volgun.
Pretty sad, but honestly as of late TES have been doing too much of the big absurd world ending disasters that Just... No? Like, Inevitable for 5 hours like shooting myself in the balls.
This isn't about the quality of his content, it's about the choice of SCP to talk about.
I would rather have him diversify his work than focusing on what I consider less interesting on the wiki
@@lorenzomeulli750 Seriously, why even make Inevitable and not just submit it as an SCP-001 proposal or something? How is "the end of all anomaly" counted as just one of the anomalies anyway?
@@Megamean09 A change in what each article can be at this point, which is an issue I have with the wiki and I have stated it several times on the Wiki itself.
Some degree of "Tale article" is fine, check 5000, as there is a central anomaly.
Or 5999, albeit I am not a fan.
But Inevitable? Yeah no thanks, that's a 001 at best, but really it's more of a tale anyway. Not even a short tale lmao.
The series of articles about the "real human world" (2003 related stuff) it's pretty cool EXACTLY because there Is a central core anomaly and from that a narrative Is developed, unlike 6500.
This isn't even nostalgia tinted glasses, I never got around with reading 2003 back in the day and I did it in only in 2020
professional presentation and indifference to view counts, it's like heaven
I don't believe scp content has less views. I think that's a lie by the exploring series. I don't know why he's lying but I really hate that he lies

honestly though, and no hate to the original author, but "the future that never was" is such a more catching name then "a dead future"
especially since it plays on both on the anxieties about sterility and the temporal tomfoolery.
I was gonna say that the goc were over reacting when it came to the damage this thing would cause if it crash landed, so I looked up the size of the meteor that hit the earth in Russia back in 1908 that caused a shit ton of damage to its surrounding area back than, thinking that meteor HAD to have been bigger than this ship at least so we would be looking at damage at least less than that impact….
That meteor was 25 stories tall, or about 75 meters.
This thing is over 5 times as big as that.
Don’t really like the GOC in a lot of things but I think they were justifiably worried this time around.
Yep, a lot of comments about they behaving stupidly, but without the secret message, it's pretty certain the foundation would have done something similar, in that timeframe at least; the foundation would probably have tried to intercept it much further away.
The Tunguska Event asteroid is estimated to have been 50-60m at 27km/s with a high estimate TNT equivalent of 30Mt. This is 450m (plus the multitude of smaller balls surrounding it) at 12km/s, made of at-least-steel rather than rock. And it also has an impact angle of 90 degrees, intending to land. This means negligible atmospheric deflection and without breakup. TNT equivalent of 6500Mt, almost 5 times the world's entire nuclear arsenal.
GOC, this is why we don't break things.
Perhaps the left hand should be aware of what the right hand is doing.
Foundation, this is why you disclose what the heck is flying straight at Earth that could kill everyone.
@@Inquisitor_RedactedBut this isn't the first time the GOC terminating an SCP has gone horribly wrong.
Surely the GOC would have realized that if the Foundation isn't doing anything about it, it probably isn't a threat.
@@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim or maybe they're compromised and something bad is about to happen. Given the information they had at the time their response was completely reasonable.
@@Inquisitor_Redacted I disagree. There wasn't enough information to make any decision.
To be entirely fair to the GoC, they did try hailing it, they did wait to see if it would change course away from Earth, and the Foundation most likely wasn't telling them anything about it. Tbh I'd probably blast the massive fast-moving alien object coming right at us too.
And they waited until it was about moon-distance away. I ran the numbers. 90 degree impact for the landing angle means negligible atmospheric resistance. Metal object over 450m diameter at 12km/s yields a TNT equivalent of 6000Mt. About 5 times the world's nuclear arsenal.
@@Mr12RelicNo wonder the Foundation termed it a potential Eternal Winter scenario, that would cause not only an extinction level event but practically a 3rd Ice Age
@@Mr12Relic Exactly. It would be like a giant metal slug fired from a giant rifle hitting the earth.
It is always fun with these SCPs in which the story is told and then the actual purpose of it becomes clear at the end.
Im so sad a lost people forgotten or misplaced doing there duty only to be blow to shreads ...
SCP reports are an interesting style of writting imho. They're almost backwards but their structure is logical.
I hate it when the author tries to make the end ambiguous or confusing.
@@Blorckits Exactly. I don't mind if the majority of the story is a little ambiguous or a bit confusing, as long as the end is concrete. I hate all that "trying to subvert the reader's expectations" crap.
@Blorckits What's ambiguous about it? There was a plague causing serility, so this was a generation ship launched to preserve humanity. The temporal shift information implies an alternate time line, but one still very close to what would be considered primary reality.
You know, this is probably a good case for why the Foundation is a little on the paranoid side, since a little communication would have gone a long way.
The GOC was completely justified in their actions based on how little information they had on 2002, especially since they observed that the Foundation was doing nothing.
I agree, it might have been a giant planet destroying space mine as far as GOC could have knew.
@@K0RT3K I was thinking rather the opposite.
It’s policy of both organisations not to reveal information to the other unnecessarily, in order to maintain their advantages over the other.
The Foundation were unaware of the GOC’s involvement until the moment they destroyed 2002.
The GOC, on the other hand, knew that The Foundation had knowledge of object, yet weren’t taking action to combat it’s threat. It could then be inferred that perhaps there was a reason for their inaction.
Instead of requesting information about the object, their knowledge of which could be passed of as completely mundane (“we spotted this satellite on a collision course and were thinking about breaking it”), they immediately went to “BLOW IT UP!”
@@boxlessone1046 Foundation trusted the funny space voice mail from colision course object coming to Earth which potentionaly housed dangerous human wipe virus, GOC did not.
@@boxlessone1046 Even more interesting would be a re-reversal.
Foundation learns of SCP-2002, GOC learns of it through them. O-5 Council knows about the leak, which is why the leaker (possibly) was thereafter utilized for counter-espionage. They still do nothing to further inform the GOC, knowing with limited knowledge they would take hostile action.
They knew it was a Foundation vessel they hadn't even begun building yet, likely as soon as it was detected. Letting the GOC destroy it was a way to keep even Foundation personnel in the dark about it as much as possible. In the end, it was likely the best move, as the temporal anomaly which caused the vessel to be displaced over a century into the past would likely have otherwise caused the sterility plague they mentioned to spread into an even earlier, less prepared society that would have had insufficient resources to deal with that kind of K-class event.
@@boxlessone1046yeah it does nothing but seemingly prove the goc’s ineptitude to consider that something may not be an immediate threat, like “oh there’s this thing that’s seems to be coming towards earth to collide with it and we have very limited info, for some reason this other group who pretty often has more info on these things due to their humongous funding and info network is doing nothing. They want us all to die!!!!”
GOC needs to do something about that itchy trigger finger of theirs
Quoting SCP-1609 "...this is why we have Special Containment Procedures instead of Special Destruction Procedures".
Foundation needs to do something about their superiority complex and actually talk to others lol
@@tmk6022Given what happens when they _do_ talk (This SCP included) they have a very good reason to be tight lipped about things.
@@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim If they had talked, they probably could have stopped its destruction. Instead they let a group that's all too happy to blow away anything that looks a little funny naturally find something that they are looking to destroy.
They were completely justified though? All the information they had was it was on a collision course with earth and would have destroyed the planet had it not been stopped. It's kinda fucking obvious how the GOC would respond to that and given the foundation made no efforts to let the GOC know ahead of time what it was the blame fully lies on the foundation. With the information they had the GOC acted exactly as they should have.
Man, I look forward to your videos all week. I'm SO glad you've stayed true to Scp and haven't gone crazy with vs videos like a lot of the other channels.
I swear to god, the next person that says the number 682 is getting fed to a completely normal lizard
@@phmeeeeeeeee Feed them to the Komodo Dragons
What are VS videos?
@@AIXMK1 As in “versus”. SCP Explained does this a lot now. Previously, they did do animated videos covering SCPs, but now they do a lot of SCP versus (insert pretty much anything from any kind of media here) videos.
It’s stupid and repetitive. No different than a “hey could Goku, Superman, Saitama, etc beat (insert character here)?” conversation.
@equestrianmidnight5619 oh right, I just saw that recently.
Probably aimed at younger audience and seems pointless and empty
Foundation perspective: receiving encrypted messages only they can hear, determined to be safe and are people from an alternate universe
GOC perspective: large flying object heading straight to earth, large enough to kill all life, Foundation is taking no action, best to prepare for the worst if it gets too close
In the end its not a matter of “GOC bad Foundation good”, its a matter of poor communication from both parties that causes accidents to happen, thus the ending with a review on information sharing between both parties.
based take.
Yeah, it could have been a good plan to account for your future enemies, and also everyone else on earth, having no knowledge of anything that's going on internally within your secret organization but then also being able to see your huge death ball hurling its way towards Earth. Since they are completely covering it up, it's more likely that they don't want those other people finding out about how bad everyone involved fucked this one up on all fronts. Just replace GoC with any other large government on Earth, or all of them. And also notice how they're pointing their giant murder laser AWAY from Earth when it came time to act in defense of humanity, instead of seeing the boogey man hiding in our collective human consciousness and deciding killing every last human was the best way to protect every last human. It was just not a good idea to play spy vs spy when facing so many unknown factors, and also giving it a pass because "Oh yeah, that's from our reality, and miss recording says they have it all under control via unresponsive proxy. Right then, false information campaign under way, and let's go catch us a mole!"
GOC had enough information to act. The Foundation did not.
This was exactly what I intended the take away to be. 👍
Cause i understand the goc like BIG BAD COMING IN FAASST ... like yea course they gonna do there duty
Honestly this just shows that the foundations obsession with secrecy can lead to completely avoidable disasters. The GOC made the best decision they could've made based on the information available, its the Foundation thats at fault for always trying to keep everyone else in the dark.
I would point out that the mantra for GOC is the elimination of anomalies if it were doable and while debated on, its not as though they wouldn't try doing so even if they knew what it was. The GOC has a rocky relationship with SCP foundation, sometimes collaborating if necessary but often in conflict with one another like other groups of interest.
There are alternate story that shows what a world where everyone knows the SCP foundation is, and depending how you'd react to it, it can be either good or bad. But generally speaking, letting the public or government body have oversight on the Foundation can be a detriment in response to anomalies.
@@heartduwang8268 Sure, but what DO you expect the GOC to do when there's a massive object flying towards earth whose impact would completely devastate all life on the planet? Had the Foundation communicated, the GOC might not have felt like this was a matter of survival.
@@toxicwaste159 Then would it be beneficial for the SCP foundation to be open with everything they have to the public?
What do you think will happen if the Church of the Broken God discovered that the Foundation has most of the components of their God in cell?
There are things better left secret, than to let people and organizations who have their own agendas to get hands on it and make things a whole lot worse.
@@heartduwang8268 I'm not saying they should reveal everything. Either extreme is dumb. But in a case like this where someone else looking at it would believe earth in danger, it might just be a good idea to tell people like the GOC "actually, this isn't dangerous, and its really important to us so we'd appreciate if you let us take care of it"
@@heartduwang8268 "Hey, GOC, it's our thing going for a landing, chill out a bit, okay? We'll run the cover-up"
No reason to "reveal everything to the public", just make sure that guys with a Giant Space Laser of Death are aware that this is not the doomsday "We're all gonna die!" thing speeding up towards the Earth
Sundays are my favorite days cause of Volgun. The model is well made.
This one still hits harder than the bulk of the skip files, particularly since it was an answer to a problem we'll still be facing. Only problem is, will history repeat itself?🤔
Imagine the tragedy of going through all that work to safeguard and restart humanity, only to have your one hope fall through a wormhole and get shot down by a rival organization.
@@EzraBradford the greatest joke in the universe is humans believing they have a stable or controllable part in it
a part of me thinks that one of the ppl on board was carrying the virus after all, which would've infected past earth causing it to loop. Maybe the GOC ended the cycle... or maybe the threat is still on its way.
What about SCP 2000?
@@dejannincic9671 Sad thing is 2000 gets destroyed in so many files that it's a deus ex with almost no real chance to affect a timeline. A real tragedy for mankind no doubt.

@@Evelyn-pl3we Yep, So this is the details if you're curious
The object is a spaceship, Christened SCPS Mendel. It's a Life Preservation ship from the Foundation but it came from another Timeline and Universe where the world it came from were destroyed from a Plague originated from Redacted SCP.
The researcher who sent the ship, Dr. Yount, was trying to preserve human life that is genetically resistant to said plague but the plague are attacking on every direction possible, including space. Fortunately, the ship was taken through a temporal anomaly and was sent "Temporally Adrift" (as in the ship was drifting away from their original timeline) by it to the timeline where the plague never happened or didn't happened yet... And rather Unfortunately as we learned here, the GOC shot it down with their Orbital Laser Artillery THOR A-XIII, leaving no one on that ship alive... Which include +- 500 Newborns
It's worse, it's from THIS universe. It was meant to come back after the plague had dissipated, but somehow managed to come back before it even happened in the first place.
@@ViolentFraggle I noticed that the Ship is lost in time basically
But I thought they're from another Universe because of that last part where the Automated message cannot process the landing coordinates.
You're right, it's from their current universe but from the future... The coordinates could've just been corrupted when the temporal shift happened.
Well, hopefully the foundation ID-ed that plague much earlier now
How does this only have 4000 views the fuck

Nice short SCP.
Good afternoon Dr Millar
This answers a question I've had (or rather a bad assumption I'd made). The GOC and Foundation just don't talk to each other at all. They'd rather spy on each other than actually communicate. I know neither one particularly likes the other, but I'd have thought they'd keep basic lines of communication open. But I should have known better. I know government agencies that would rather eat a klick of blast fused sand before working with each other on what are ostensibly shared concerns.
