My orthodontist slapped braces on me, straightened my teeth, but did nothing to address my tongue thrust and poor oral posture. I have suffered my whole life from this. If you are a parent thinking of getting your child (or yourself) braces, make sure you're not ignoring the underlying reasons the teeth are crooked in the first place.
exactly. People are so focused on the aesthetic aspect that they forget there are other issues and reasons for wearing braces. I've been wearing mine for almost a year now. Lower teeth became straighter but still no change in the upper part. They currently look even worse than before. I got bite blockers on front teeth and elastics on both sides and It's really painful. My teeth couldn't handle the bite blockers on the back lower teeth few months ago,so my biting surface got affected and It broke.I got bad trauma and had to stop wearing both bite blockers and elastics, completelyslowing down the process. i got braces 4 days ago, definitely didn’t hurt to put on, but biting into food hurts like hell and i’m definitely not biting into food again anytime soon, although i cant bite down too hard while chewing otherwise it could make one of my brackets come off my tooth (the tooth above that bracket sits on/touches the bracket when i close my teeth together, so my tooth could potentially push the bracket off if i bite too hard so yeahhh-) but so far it’s going pretty good, not having much pain/aching unless i’m eating
braces dont hurt as much as their worked up to be, even tho its not possable to exprience zero pain its easy to keep under control. I recomend to take some kind of pain med like ibuprofin before you get them put on. Eat soft foods the first few days and STAY ON TOP OF THE IBUPROFIN!! after the first 3-4 days ( if your teeth hurt i reccomend some numbing gel) you shouldnt feel any more pain and as you get your braces tightend each time it wont hurt as bad. Just rember to follow what your ortho tells you, as for the wire TELL the person who does your braces if the wire is too long. be ready to expect sores in odd parts of your mouth like your upper and lower lip (the in side) and the back parts of your cheeks, if you get one of these sores use dental wax to smooth out your bracket to your gum. We can not determine an exact treatment cost without a consultation to evaluate your teeth and discuss your treatment goals. The fees are based upon many factors including severity, estimated duration of treatment, treatment goals, types of appliances used, and whether a patient needs extractions or not. We recommend you get a consultation with an orthodontist to determine your exact treatment cost.

But it went well :D
Just got mine a few hours ago. *Day 1* I only got the top row done today, they didn't do the bottom. Maybe future appointment. No noticeable pain just discomfort, it's not enough to be called pain. What's very annoying is the inner lip contact with the braces, it's very uncomfortable. As far as food, I ate Ramen which was good, did not have any problems with that. Also had a little bit of ice cream, that's between me and you. 😉 *Day 2* I did not eat anything all day as I just wasn't hungry, I only ate Cornflakes with milk at 5 PM 😅 When I woke up, the discomfort I was feeling was a bit less... until I brushed or drink water or any substance enters my mouse, then it reminds me how it feels xD. But it's starting to feel normal as when I'm just doing things, I'm not noticing it touching my inner lips, otherwise I was feeling it yesterday quite a lot and annoying. As far as food, I ate Cornflakes, mango slices, cake (waited for it to get soft then chewed it with my back teeth that did not have braces going all the way back.) and that's about it. Nothing crazy about it so far, but then again I only have the top one. *Day 3* No pain at all, not much discomfort either. While I still can obviously feel the braces, it's not as noticeable doing tasks. The only thing I don't like is when you smile, sometimes your lips can get stuck on the braces xD when you try close them. (Depends on dryness) When I wake up, I barely feel the braces until I rinse my mouth, brush or drink anything... or even eat; then it's a bit more noticeable. But goes away after a while I guess due to Saliva. Food wise, I started moving up my diet so now I can eat sandwiches pretty easily and no pain or anything at all. Had a milkshake, a sandwich and a soft dish today. So far, today was just chill and no problems. The one thing I still hate and will forever hate it seems is food getting stuck in between the braces/(on-top or below) brackets. So I rinse my mouth after I eat anything, and if something is still there, I do a quick brush. Otherwise, I brush twice a day because of stuff that may build up around the braces. *Day 4* Nothing really, food is fine to eat in most cases. No pain, just annoying feeling it still in my mouth haha, but it's still 4 days so it's alright, will likely get use to it in no time. Only thing that will continue to annoy me is food being stuck in your braces, having to rinse deeply and properly to ensure it's gone. *Updates:* I will not update from now since it's basically the same since. Any problems or any important info that happens I will update here though. Update: i got my bottom braces and it was a little painful on day 2, once again, to me i wouldnt say pain, more discomfort. While eating, it was a little painful on my teeth itself, felt like it was gonna fall out lol. But right now, been a few weeks, im chilling. Top braces has no discomfort anymore, and eating is fine. Bottom braces is still a bit newer, the start was annoying but now im chilling. Its fine 🙂 All is great so far.

I have to get braces soon, and I am just about scared to death. I really hope it won't hurt that much.
braces dont hurt as much as their worked up to be, even tho its not possable to exprience zero pain its easy to keep under control. Overall its a whole diffrent exprience for everyone im just giving you some things that i learned over the past year of having braces. Good luck i wish you the best!

*Day 3*
No pain at all, not much discomfort either. While I still can obviously feel the braces, it's not as noticeable doing tasks. The only thing I don't like is when you smile, sometimes your lips can get stuck on the braces xD when you try close them. (Depends on dryness)
When I wake up, I barely feel the braces until I rinse my mouth, brush or drink anything... or even eat; then it's a bit more noticeable.
*Day 4*
Nothing really, food is fine to eat in most cases. No pain, just annoying feeling it still in my mouth haha, but it's still 4 days so it's alright, will likely get use to it in no time. Only thing that will continue to annoy me is food being stuck in your braces, having to rinse deeply and properly to ensure it's gone.
*Updates:*
I will not update from now since it's basically the same since.
Its fine 🙂
All is great so far.
Bro how did you manage to eat a sandwich. My orthodontist has told me not to bite with the front teeth.
I am still not able to chew food properly and it has been 6 days.
Even I have braces on upper teeth only but on both side, I have bite blocks.
@@priyanshubhushan3962 Weird, mine doesn't hurt when I bite. I could chew pretty easily. I don't have "bite blocks", well atleast I think so.
The orthodontist just told me I can't eat candy or any gummies etc, no hard foods for the first few days/weeks and no cereal that is alone, should be with milk and left to get a little soggier.
And I did, I ate cereal, sandwiches, rotis, alot of stuff so far. No problems, I just ensure to clean properly after each meal, which is the only annoying aprt besides discomfort.
I’m 10 years old and just went to the dentist on Thursday to find out i am getting braces! I’m pretty happy because I’m getting them at a young age.
I love how everybody saying they were hurting but I ate a whole burger and fries afterward the day I got them
I’m here on 5-26-22 just got my braces today at 19 and so far it’s not bad just can’t open my mouth all the way lol. Gonna eat noodles and out meal the first couple days then I should get use to it. Only 2 years left aha

Getting them tomorrow! Made me a lot less scared. Thank you!

That’s awesome news! What braces color will you pick?
@@Manhattanbridgeortho mite go for blue
Just got my braces on, and Dr. Kimberly your video is a lifesaver! So reassuring to see the same info about braces on resources like here and Kriss ai. Feeling a little nervous but way more prepared now 🤩!
Heyyy, i also used kriss ai for tips! most useful one since i got braces too, is that always use dark colored braces cos it will not change its color and if yes, only minimal :) no to clear ones!! it will turn yellowish
the comments about that kriss ai makes me curious, what is it??
@@shyrahgail Kriss ai is an advanced AI chatbot tailored specifically for the dental industry, designed to enhance communication between dentists, patients, and staff by providing real-time, accurate information about dental treatments and procedures. 😉

im about to get my braces and im really excited! can someone share more tips about braces?
Best tip I got fron kriss is to stock up on brace wax! Saved me from a TON of mouth sores 😁
Just eat soft food first like oatmeal, yogurt, etc. Buy waterpik too, very helpful! You can also ask kriss ai for more tips 😉
Hi@@allisondarcy! who's kriss? did they provide that tip about stocking up on brace wax? if kriss is another UA-camr, it'd be great to know more about their tips!
I’m getting my braces on July 1 and after I get them my mom will teach me how to brush my teeth

You're going to destroy so many tooth brush until the braces is off.
I got braces yesterday and now my gum is itching a lot.. N whenever I try to smile my upper lip stuck into the braces 😆
This was very informative. My appointment is in 3 weeks and the anticipation is killing me lol
Most of my questions were answered thank you.
I got my top braces 03/24/21 and bottoms 03/09/22 so its been about a year...
Hi, I got a question for you. Why do normal braces take more time to make your smile perfect, but Invisalign does not? For my case, it would take 2 years with standard braces and 9 months with Invisalign. I opted for Invisalign and I am very much happy with them.
I think it depends on the person. If I chose Invisalign, it still would have been 18-24 months. Same as braces
Any pain?
@@tamiekahollis I had one tray that was kinda painful, but otherwise teeth are only a little bit sensitive first day and then it is ok
What were you fixing? Did you have a gap, crowdedness, rotations, spaces between them?
@@lordRealnpc crowdedness, rotations and overbite.
Hit, I have a query. Does braces treatment fix facial asymmetry?
Please let me know.
Yes, it does because your bite will change.
Yes it does.
I probably have to get them now, teeth are getting misaligned and I’m having jaw cracking and I’m biting my cheeks occasionally
@Kassie Wallace true, the alternative is a very painful surgery if I don’t get it fixed soon.
@@bugloverspiderlover8490 I have the same feeling... My jaw makes clicking sound so much every single time I open my mouth or move my lower jaw left or right cuz of my overbite..
Finally got braces a couple weeks ago and now excited for the new smile
Hope you r doing well!!!😊
@@navvya7496 haven’t gotten mine yet, they said they will do a orthodontic consultation or something at your next visit.
@@bugloverspiderlover8490 They'll probably say things like what will happen the day of getting braces or how to take care of em, eating ,brushing or other important stuff.. It really doesn't hurt while the braces are getting applied but after that....the first two weeks of braces are the worst😬
The pain will be bearable tho but yeah um have soft food or painkillers if it hurts too much...
Good Luck!😊
Got mine take off yesterday and it doesn’t hurt but you will get used to it. The 3 years with them were worth it
got my braces about 10days ago..everything I want to known is in it and so thankful for this..
Did it hurt after the procedure!?
To put it on is not painful however after the first few hours, it starts to feel weird cause ur mouth is definitely not accustomed and u feel like u wanna take it out. By the next morning, it’s killing you. Just take a pain killer. And it’s hard to chew with the braces for the first week or 2. It feels weird. Nevertheless you will get used and it’ll be as tho u don’t have them at all.
Just got it today hurts like hell I don't know what to do..
@@rkive7143 probably
use a saltwater rinse
Or
Gently massage your gums
Or
Eat something cold (and soft) to numb your mouth
Or
Take painkillers like ibuprofen and advil
Just some suggestions i think may help, im still trying to figure it out myself 🥲
Im getting my braces tomorrow im going for pink and purple combo and im a bit scared and excited at the same time😅
Edit: i got them and its not so bad as everyone says. Sometimes i feel like theyre there but it doesn’t really hurt
Edit 2: its the next day and i feel i lil uncomfort by one teeth in the front but the rest is fine

Congratulations 🎉🎉
I put braces from 2 years ago. It's an amazing treatment. But I'm still putting them and I have many issues. To everyone who have braces I will say "Be STRONG u will be okay just be PATIENT like me haha😅😉😏😎" So yesss. No need to thank.
is there any improvement Sir after 2yrs . wearing braces ?
@@ramelbasical2388 yes and still putting them now, but it depends on age, how long they take to get better. For me, braces changed my life and now I can smile properly without feeling embarrassed like before. I'm so happy LIFE IS GOOD. As I said it depends on age, and also the condition of ur teeth.

Yayyy💙💙🥰mine will be off within a week
Just got braces today I was nervous yesterday but this morning I woke up confident 😎 let’s go! ✊🏾
Started with Invasaline, hated it and switched to braces today. Feels much better.
Getting braces removed is an amazing experience.
Got my braces on 22/3/2022, I can’t chew anything since the orthodontist applies a somewhat hard substance on one of my molar tooth on both sides which was to prevent from the brackets of the upper arch colliding with my lower arch. So I can’t chew any of my food so I will usually eat porridge or if I really want to eat like for example a chicken, I have to cut it in really tiny bits so I can just swallow it. Really can’t wait when I can finally chew again, lol.
I’m as of now on day 3 and for the past few days, I would always feel discomfort on my front lower arch but so far so good.
I've always wanted braces for years, but when I got them I regretted my decision because on the first few days I was craving chicken but I couldn't eat it xD
In 2-3 weeks you'll be able to chew food again hopefully! You'll get used to it in time !
How are you now? Any updates?
getting mines in a month.. the only thing I’m scared for is the pain
fr! i get mine in like 5 days 😭
Got mine 3 days ago, I was expecting a pain, till today I have none, just not easy to eat that's all, I'm actually enjoying them😘💖
Don't worry, you will feel discomfort and soreness for the first few days. It will go away shortly. 😊👌
I got it yesterday and it doesn’t really hurt unless I eat or put pressure on my teeth

The doc teeth is amazing totally give me a nice vibe.
I got my spacers so my mom has to make an appointment for my braces and I’m really excited but also kind of nervous.
