The woman who played Lal had great acting. She perfectly showed the naivite and curiousity of Lal but still kept her aloof and emotionless and she did it in a different way than Data. That is hard to pull off.
What a cowardly thing for Haftel to drop that on Picard and then scurry off the call so he doesn't have to see Picard react with horror to his shocking threat.

Haftel be like: Our entire cybernetics research program has failed to do in decades what Data successfully did on a whim, so I'ma just poach his work and see if I can reverse-engineer it and take all the credit.
Data really was a great father. He was willing to tell Lal the harsh truths most parents shield their children from, and in so doing he provided her with the opportunity to grow. Protecting one's child is a fine thing to do, but sometimes you have to be straight with them. Sheltered children grow up into broken adults.

I just did a double-take. This is Star Trek. In this society all are included - including children of other races and species, as well - so why are the children laughing? Inclusivity would surely be part of their makeup from the crib.

Love can be many things. It is not an emotion, but something more like the manifestation of many acts and ideas.
I remember Brent Spiner having issues with the Data make-up. Wonder why they didn't have an episode where Data's skin gets damaged, so he replaces it with upgraded skin like Lal had. Sort of thought they were going to do that after FIRST CONTACT when the Borg had removed some of his skin
