- A live performance of 'The New Homeplace' written by Laurel Premo of Red Tail Ring. This song comes from the band's fourth studio album 'Fall Away Blues' released September 2016 on Earthwork Music. www.redtailring.com
(Lyrics from the original liner notes of the CD, "Fall Away Blues":)
In the evening, I stoke a fire, lit to keep me safe, here in this place, the thought of a border, fortifies some faith, reassures a strength / There, there lies a fence that I have built of stone, though it is strong the wind still sings through the holes / In the morning, I run to grasp at, every golden ray, my frame alone, can't contain the splendor, my lining must be braced, another vessel made / God, God made this child, out of songs and bone, though I am strong the pain still leaks through the holes / These walls, incomplete and tender, braided from my core, keep out that which is heartless and seek to hold what's pure, oh this is the new homeplace
Bravo extraordinary executed young lady oh, such a beautiful piece so well done beautiful harmonies most beautiful piece of fiddle work I've heard in a long time
I've seen you out here on UA-cam before love your work
I'm shaking my head and sighing at the beauty of this strange and wondrous music.
Will move us to another place and time, that's the best it can get.
I love you both.talented.my favorite is the blackest crow.ive listen to that song so many times it's burned in my brain. I hope y'all never stop.if y'all heard what we heard y'all wouldn't. God bless.
Laurel surrenders to the music like no other. Michael is such the complimentary voice....in so many ways. Tears as always.
Congratulations to your new homeplace 💚. I keep in my mind evening with after the concert in Prague some years ago with Rosťa ČAPEK 🌝. Stay safe with your novely music. Betty🍀 Czech republic
For anyone wondering, this song is crosstuned to F# B F# C# instead of the typical GDAE.
How do you know that?
Very hard to put a handle on, unusual vocal/instrumental arrangement, excellent voice and the violin playing was so good, it just about jumped up and bit you. Great stuff guys.
You guys melted me down with this one. The sincerity and heart feeling for the home place. The Loved ones about and sharing, it all came into my present. WOW! Is the only thing I can say plus THANK You Both! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Love your fiddle playing.
Real & warm music as this world forgot about it ... oh boy ... thank you guys !!!!!
Goose bumps!to more than one song..
This is the musical descovery of the year for me. Love it!
Finding that thing. Deep stuff.
So happy to have discovered your music. Thanks.
Why does her playing style sound so Scandinavian btw? I love it... wish I could play like that, it sounds so HEARTY. Makes me want to go fell some trees or something.
@@farynrice6938 And if I'm not mistaken, she spent some time in Norway too (and met friends of mine there!).
It's the crosstuning and all the double stops
The sound reminds me of a nyckelharpa with the drone notes
I like eveything about this. The performance, the available light shooting, the editing, the simplicity of the entire thing. tasteful treatment of a great song. Hats off to you two!
Seldom does such a painfully beautiful song as this come along
OMG I so love this!! Red Tail Ring is amazing! Gives me the chills :-)
Never ceases to astonish.
Hypnotic!takes me home!
Holy shit... I almost skipped to the next video at first but I love a song that builds so beautifully. Well done video too. This needs more views.
Truly an artist with feeling
Thank you so much for creating this song.
Lovely!!! Looking forward to your visit to Ripton again!!!! (cute hair cut! and new hair growth too!)
When you compose new fiddle music, do you do it right on the violin, play it on the piano first, or another instrument?
A fine question. I’ll bet piano first ... after the mind.
I would wager composing directly on the fiddle. The fretless fiddle has the unique ability to slide and bend notes expressively in a way the piano just cannot, with its set tones.
I can play both instruments, and they're just so different.
Absolutely stunning.
pretty amazing! So unique.. There is nothing like it.
Breathtakingly beautiful!
absolutely gorgeous!
This is EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!!!!
Oh yeah! I love this!
Beautifully done Bravo!!!
Wow wow! Amazing! Great piece and great performance!
I play the guitar been uninspired a lot lately but how i found myself here i don't know just know i'm inspired
I wish you could hear the words in their videos.
I've posted the lyrics to "The New Homeplace" here in the comments.
You guys are amazing!
love it
Strikes me every time.. Is this played on a regular fiddle or a viola?
did you find out?
How do you make the fiddle sound like a hardanger fiddle? Is it just the tuning?
What kind of microphones did you use to make this video?
Shoot! I can't remember exactly what mics we used for this video. We often use a Shure KSM32 or KSM44a if we're doing a single mic. We've also used a Neumann TLM 103 in conjunction with the KSM44a (in figure eight) for mid-side recordings if we want more depth. This recording could have been simply recorded with our Zoom H2, too. Sorry I can't remember this session specifically.
I have a Zoom H1 and I've used it for singing and I didn't think it did a very good job for that. I plan to also use it for violin videos but I'm not confident it'll be so great for that either. But I've seen other music performance videos people have done with that mic and they sound better than mine for some reason. I wonder if they're playing around with the settings or something? Do you adjust the settings or levels when you use your Zoom H2?
What tuning are you playing in?
I am so curious, please let me know if you find out 🙏
I think I got it @sethkinle2254... Although I'm no expert, I recon it's F# B F# C#
@@goviasano4344 I will definitely try that out. Thank you.
