They have it nailed from start to finish. Just fabulous. I can't understand why Red Tail Ring aren't better known.

They've done a lot of great stuff but this is special. They seem to have a way with bluesy stuff, probably didn't do enough of it.

This could be considered the definitive recording of this song. A musical holotype if you will.

Through youtube via Abigail Washburn (or visa versa), I discovered Red Tail Ring... In the hour since discovery, I have ordered everything you have to offer on cd... Red Tail Ring's music & values are much needed in this fragmented world...

That was a joy to behold! I'm writing a chapter of a PhD thesis on early recordings of this ballad. Excellent harmonies and dual musicianship. Pleased I stumbled upon you. :-)

it is the great American murder ballad.... as if Melville and Faulkner and Bas com Lamar Lunsford had combined to produce the definitive angst that only modal mountain music can generate.

Do you want the tradition to die? Would you rather millennials all sat around with Microkorgs making bleep bloops? Yes, Dock Boggs, Roscoe Holcom and Tommy Jarrell are great, but if that's all we allow the tradition to be then what was conceived and practiced as a social music moulders away on old 78s that'll be thrown away when their owners die.
