I always have preferred Deere, probably because that's what I learned on. In my mind i consider the stick and bucket one unit, so having it on the same hand makes more sense to me. I've run cat Controls I have to apologize to the machine when I'm done lol
hahahaha you are one of the best operators ive seen, so watching you bunny hop that bucket had me in tears. Reminded me of the first time i tried to use a backhoe. You just cant be smooth when your brain is trying to tell you its backwards.
"I should get you some good videos..Oh hell, here we go...God almighty damn"!!! Hahahaha. Going through some of your old videos and they never get old and get more funny as I watch.
Watching you stumble your way through makes me feel A LOT BETTER... Joined a new company whose machines are all CAT controls. It's been extremely embarrassing/frustrating trying to convert back to CAT controls. After having to learn deere controls and running it for over 10yrs with the last company I was with! 🤬🤬🤬🤬
I have a Kubota that has both types. I switched it over once for shits and giggles . it was like being totally drunk behind the stick. not a good feeling but funny as hell as long as your not trying to make production lol
Under the rubber foot mat there is a 3/4 in. bolt valve to turn the machine from John Deere controls to Cat controls or SAE. Almost all excavators have that switch over position.
+1483samurai not all machines come with 2 or 4 way valves. The 324 I was in today didn't have a switching valve (and wasn't in the computer either). Had to suck it up and run ASE for the first time ever. Took a little getting used to but I finally got the hang of it.
The excavation company I started with ran all John Deere controls then I moved to a company ran all cat controls the most frustrating 3 hours of my God damn life
I used to hate JD controls, but now I love that pattern. it makes more sense to me. I can operate CAT controls, but it takes me a while to get the reversed pattern down.
In spite of the switch, you were making good progress on the grass in just 5 minutes of this video. Send more. I guess they can't use weed killer since it's a water source. I had a small hoe once and I liked the 'heavy' controls, swing and boom, on the left and the 'light' controls, stick and bucket, on the right. I'm right handed and my left arm is like a club foot so it worked out.
BWaahahahaha!...I love it!!....throws in a string of cuss words and never misses a beat commentating...you are multi-talented....I laughed my ass off and rewound this shit 20 times
I can imagine the laughs they had at the standards meeting when they made SAE, ISO and X/X (jcb) control systems for the excavators... You worked 10yrs using SAE? Hey try ISO, its fun :D
Yeah I’m not good at all with SAE. I can do it but I’m stressed and pissed the whole time. Been running iso for 26 years or so. It just feels more natural.
Occasionally I go back through the archives and watch an older video. Gooood lord u had me blowin snot bubbles I was laughing so hard at ur cussing and frustration!!! I'm a deere fan and appreciate most equipment you can change the controls but when u cant good lord it makes me feel like I hit myself in the head w my own bucket and no one to blame my own dumb self !! Lol. Love all the new pond vids and definitely appreciate you and all that you share w all of us Yahoo's:)
haha i feel your pain..a mate who i wrk with always changes the control pattern when his on it i jump on and nearly push the machine over trying to boom up :) love your videos man keep up the good work
It doesn't seem like a big deal, but when you run an excavator, you don't think of what control to use, you just watch the bucket and move it where you want it. I got in a cat 325 once that had the controls switched. Didn't know there was a switch to change the controls to "normal"
Next time , let me know, I also prefer JD controls, bucket and stick on same control lever and boom and swing. I'll drive down and help...lol I look just like you trying to run friggin CAT controls
That reminds me of the first few hours running my backhoe! Now I don't even think about it, but there's no way I'd want to switch to another setup (mine's SAE.) It occurs to me that one could "cross their arms" and get better results.
I spent more time looking at your rear view mirror at the gap between the dirt and your tracks than what you were actually doing. Keep it up, love the vids!
Andy68gto yeah, or put someone who has never driven anything other than an automatic in a vehicle with 3on the tree. Not quite the same but still fun to watch. I once had a powerful Chevy Luv 4x4 that I switched the shifter and selector knobs on. I was amazed at how many people that threw off track. LMAO
This so funny because I just had the same thing happen to me its very hard to switch from what your used to you have to think about every move you make and go slow
Lmao. I know how you feel. I grew up running john deere controls. I've been running cat the last 8 years. Last time I tried jd controls it was like speaking Chinese.
That’s the funniest thing i have ever seen in my entire life. I laughed 6:39. I am crying. I know the pain. When you started going really fast that had me dead man. Holy shit that was a good one
I Fee for Ya.. I bought a Hannix,Mini and it had Chines Set Controls!!!!!! Finally found the Adjustment handle,, No factory help, unless I spoke Chinese,,Great Machine in Long Run! TY
isnt that a piss off, god damn it, i remember the first day i took my course and they were cat controles, so, god, damn, frustrating hahaha.....i just kept saying, stick, boom, stick, boom.....and yes, it makes you look like you have noooo idea what your doing....you just brought me back to that day hahaha...
I'm a plumber who operates backhoes for underground plumbing and when we switched to mini excavators I could not work the CAT controls at all until I found the switch. I wonder if the bigger excavators have a control switch I would love to operate a big excavator
Valid question. Though similar, Deere controls have the same features EXCEPT Instead of the Boom up/down being on the right side (and stick out/in on left) it's vise-versa. Some excavators offer both, some don't. I personally have learned on Deere controls (unfortunantly) and so when I hopped into the cab of a Cat 320B the other day It was quite a day. lol.
I know cat & jd controls. The ONLY difference is the crowd & boom. My dad ran a machine briefly that had Northwest controls. He hated it after running Cat controls for so many years.
U need a rake for the grass. I can switch over to jd controlls but only on wable sticks fairly quick like minutes. Pilot controlls not so fast muscle memory takes over. I enterviewd on a jd 410 one time with a compaction wheel with pilot controls on BHL. I looked real silly. Lol
I feel your pain, I learned on a 688 Case, then a cx160 Case all on JD controls, everytime I get in a machine with Cat controls I feel like an idiot! But in the winter I run logging equipment and they are 99% JD controls EXCEPT by law the right hand control is plumbed so you pull the lever back to send the stick away from you (in case you slam a tree into your hand it sends the log away from the operator instead of squishing him more) talk about a mind-fuck the first week back is always hell LOL
I'm the other way around, I learned on John Deere controls for an excavator and when I try to run one with CAT controls I can barely hit the fuckin ground with the bucket lol.
hilarious!!! I see this is an older video but I had to comment... I am like you SAE is natural ISO is foreign. I have my RC excavator set up where I can switch it because I have a friend who uses ISO and I tried it today I pretty much looked like you in this video 🤣😂
my grandpa has a super long boom kobelco 220 not quite as long as that one and that thing is a pain to run. Not as bad as John Deere controls but you put the bucket all the way out and you fall on your face.
Ran across this today. This was the best laugh I’ve had in a long time. After watching recent years videos vs this, I was dying😂
I always have preferred Deere, probably because that's what I learned on. In my mind i consider the stick and bucket one unit, so having it on the same hand makes more sense to me. I've run cat Controls I have to apologize to the machine when I'm done lol
After watching a ton of your other videos. This one was freaking hilarious.
hahahaha you are one of the best operators ive seen, so watching you bunny hop that bucket had me in tears. Reminded me of the first time i tried to use a backhoe. You just cant be smooth when your brain is trying to tell you its backwards.
Glad to see eleven years later you're calmed down....laughing my ass off........😂
Watching a decade later on this is damn funny - you have mellowed alot since this.
Buffalo ny. loves watching your videos. this one had me laughing so hard!!!!
North Tonawanda NY Loves them To Keep up the great work
this video made it on my favorites list lmfao I feel your pain dude I run the controls like u hate getting into a backwards machine
This popped up after watching your newer videos for 3-4 years.. I couldn't stop laughing!!
I had to find this video again, just to hear him say aw hell here we go
This is my favorite ld18 video ever
I have a Kubota that has both types. I switched it over once for shits and giggles . it was like being totally drunk behind the stick. not a good feeling but funny as hell as long as your not trying to make production lol
After watching so many of your videos... coming back to the past... OMG I'm crackin' up laughing at this video. Keep on Smilin' n cussin'
That cracked me up, I wish you didn’t stop recording
Got me thinking about years ago, I tiped over a haultruck because of those controls.
Under the rubber foot mat there is a 3/4 in. bolt valve to turn the machine from John Deere controls to Cat controls or SAE. Almost all excavators have that switch over position.

I seriously laughed my ass off the whole time, but ik how aggravating it actually is that’s what makes it so hilarious!
I had to watch it again it's so funny. I feel your pain.
Love your videos but man this one had me cracking up. Thanks for the laugh! 😂
I used to hate JD controls, but now I love that pattern. it makes more sense to me. I can operate CAT controls, but it takes me a while to get the reversed pattern down.

Finally got to see you ride a bronco that gave you a little challenge!
Sorry for your struggles Chris but the bright side is it made for an interesting, entertaining video.
BWaahahahaha!...I love it!!....throws in a string of cuss words and never misses a beat commentating...you are multi-talented....I laughed my ass off and rewound this shit 20 times
Gosh I lost it at 5:10 ROFL. It's almost like the machine has a mind of its own.
I can imagine the laughs they had at the standards meeting when they made SAE, ISO and X/X (jcb) control systems for the excavators... You worked 10yrs using SAE? Hey try ISO, its fun :D
I had the privilege of getting shown both patterns
@@bendriscoll7040 doesn't mean your good at both
@@jpa1282 u don't have to be
Yeah I’m not good at all with SAE. I can do it but I’m stressed and pissed the whole time. Been running iso for 26 years or so. It just feels more natural.
I use to pick up CATS shipped in from JAPAN and they all had Backasswards Controls, so I can really feel for ya buddy!
I watch ALL your videos, this one is hands down one of my favorites “Ragged MotherFucker” 😂
That will make for a hard tiring day. My brain would be fried after 2 hours of that.
I run cat controls so I look the same way when I run Deere controls I feel your pain but I'm dying the video 😂
Love it, best video so far. That is how I would be running that machine.
"Chris, you're not supposed to put it back in the water!" Best line ever.
haha i feel your pain..a mate who i wrk with always changes the control pattern when his on it i jump on and nearly push the machine over trying to boom up :) love your videos man keep up the good work
the controlls you are use to are switched over, so boom up, boom down, bucked in and out are on the left lever and the others are on the right lever
They need bigger tracks and body for long boom or should add additional counter weight behind the excavator
It doesn't seem like a big deal, but when you run an excavator, you don't think of what control to use, you just watch the bucket and move it where you want it. I got in a cat 325 once that had the controls switched. Didn't know there was a switch to change the controls to "normal"
I watched this video for the first time today. Hilarious, and you speak English fluently. Laffing my ass off.
@freeskakel I can pull off deere controls on a standard machine but the long reach through a curve to it, I had to have them switched to cat LOL
Hihihihihihi lol
letsdig18 hi
thats what i sound like running anything with cat sontrools LOL
I almost pissed myself laughing, great video
Next time , let me know, I also prefer JD controls, bucket and stick on same control lever and boom and swing. I'll drive down and help...lol I look just like you trying to run friggin CAT controls
That reminds me of the first few hours running my backhoe! Now I don't even think about it, but there's no way I'd want to switch to another setup (mine's SAE.) It occurs to me that one could "cross their arms" and get better results.
LMAO, reminded me of Will Smith trying to fly the spacecraft the first time.
I spent more time looking at your rear view mirror at the gap between the dirt and your tracks than what you were actually doing. Keep it up, love the vids!
For those that do not understand this......try switching the gas and brake pedal in your car.....
Andy68gto yeah, or put someone who has never driven anything other than an automatic in a vehicle with 3on the tree. Not quite the same but still fun to watch. This so funny because I just had the same thing happen to me its very hard to switch from what your used to you have to think about every move you make and go slow
What a fun job! Gets to play with mud and dirt and makes money doing it.
Holy shit that was a good one
pretty damn good for jd controls, man. really damn good.
That Kobelco has a valve in the back hydraulic compartment that you can switch over. I ran a 210 that had it.
Sorry your pissed but this is one of your funniest ones.
i was taught how to operate in the army. the army uses deer controls...
I've been there! You wouldn't think switching 2 controls would make that big of a difference. You had me rolling the whole video though!
LOL, that's exactly how I feel when I run Cat controls :)
I can't believe there's not a valve somewhere to switch the pattern like most machines
I Fee for Ya.. I bought a Hannix,Mini and it had Chines Set Controls!!!!!! Finally found the Adjustment handle,, No factory help, unless I spoke Chinese,,Great Machine in Long Run! TY
Good 3D effects, I thought one bucket was coming in the cab with us.. lol
isnt that a piss off, god damn it, i remember the first day i took my course and they were cat controles, so, god, damn, frustrating hahaha.....i just kept saying, stick, boom, stick, boom.....and yes, it makes you look like you have noooo idea what your doing....you just brought me back to that day hahaha...
What you should have rented is an excavator with pontoon tracks on it
I'm a plumber who operates backhoes for underground plumbing and when we switched to mini excavators I could not work the CAT controls at all until I found the switch. I wonder if the bigger excavators have a control switch I would love to operate a big excavator

ya'll see that 4lbs Bass flippin around inside the bucket... lol :D
We should get you a machine with Northwest control pattern. THAT WILL REALLY GET YOU GOING. LOL. If I remember right, it has a right hand swing.
Andrew Brenneman that's what they call cat controls
I know cat & jd controls. The ONLY difference is the crowd & boom. My dad ran a machine briefly that had Northwest controls. He hated it after running Cat controls for so many years.
Nice it's been a while since I laughed that hard LOL I love it keep them coming
This is like trying to wipe your ass with your left hand after you've wiped it with your right for 50 years.
I have always run John Deere controls, so I enjoyed watching the backwards shows but I know it is the same for me when I run cat controls
atleast for doing all that hard back breaking work you don't complain about it
I can run both but I prefer Deere
I like jd controls.
I know its an old video but I feel your pain brother. The damn Gradalls are even worse.
@Cat314DLCR the boom control and stick controls are on different levers
Of course the controls are backwards on a long reach. Makes perfect sense.
Couldn't stop laughing 🤣
Those 2 different controls make a big difference
Look at it the bright side, Chris: At least u had a real challenge for once -lol-
U need a rake for the grass. I can switch over to jd controlls but only on wable sticks fairly quick like minutes. Pilot controlls not so fast muscle memory takes over. I enterviewd on a jd 410 one time with a compaction wheel with pilot controls on BHL. I looked real silly. Lol
That was hilarious!!
LOL! Been there...Where'd the stick go? (look way up) Oh, there it is...

wow, Chris is human after all and curses at the controls! :P
Lol been there done that! You have to laugh at yourself also when you watch.
Hahaha!!!! You sound like logger wade!!!
lol this is exactly how I feel running deere controls
The long reach up there at the Meekins auction was ISO as well remember?
I'm the other way around, I learned on John Deere controls for an excavator and when I try to run one with CAT controls I can barely hit the fuckin ground with the bucket lol.
That's how I feel when I have to run our 953 track loader
Ha ha ha you made my day chris you going to dredge that pond or skim it lol
Those are the ones that are good...
I'm workin on a little pond now with a leibherr with cat controls, Cat controls make so much more since
I have thought about trying to find an Excavator job but don't even know where too look for one.
hilarious!!!

@MegaAnt111 there was not one, mechanic had to swap the hoses
Major pain when controls are different.
