Once again making a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The dread in your voice was so acute when you were talking about digging into the dam and that would've been several days worth of work, I bet. Serendipity sure raised her head when you & the owner were talking. This was great to watch, Chris. It shows your character that you stand by your work. Thanks for sharing with us all.❤
That pond was full of surprises. Luckily, you were rained out and hadn't moved your equipment to the next job. I'm glad it was an easy fix, and you spotted the problem.
I didn’t understand at first, you were digging down the dam in the backside now you’re fixing it here! I understand now, the dam was only so wide at first and when you added all the concrete and dirt to the backside! It was leaking here and running through the concrete down to where you were digging at first because it was showing there! I’m learning Chris, I’ve been watching you on your pond jobs and I’ve learned a lot from your experience! Now that’s why I call you “ the Pond Master “! It was real lucky y’all were talking there and noticed the water moving! Go buy a lottery ticket my friend! You might’ve dug the whole backside up before finding this spot! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Pour/sprinkle plumbers dye along the dam to find and confirm the leak same as the mud but it removes a lot wasted digging. The amount that was flowing out the ground would have been saturated past the point where you found the piece of pipe definitely wasn't the leak you was looking for
Good thing the customer came by and you saw the problem. With out that you might have to dig the whole and that would suck! Now you get to clean the tracks off again. :) Thank you and have a great week.
I was thinking that when You were looking for where the leak was coming from that some dye in the water could show You the direction that the water was heading but You saw that with the movement of leaves etc. Good work once again Chris.
This episode really crystallized why I never miss a Chris Guin video - Chris's ability to use his experience and intuition to diagnose, assess, and operate in real time and articulate all of this in the videos to an audience while he is doing the work is exceptional. Tremendous insight in problem-solving.
I bet the land owner was surprised you came back out to fix it so fast. Or at all. It's very difficult to get contractors back out to fix issues. Only the really good ones come back so fast. While I've never seen you have to return before, I think we all knew you would take care of any issues.
Nice catch on the hidden pipe, and nice repair on the problem, and like you said, at least the equipment was still on site$$$$, thanks for the update, enjoyed watching.
I couldn’t be more happy for you to find that issue so quickly. I’ll bet that owner was but puckered over what kind of possibilities lie beneath that dam.
awesome that just while chatting you see the water moving and start digging to find another old pipe. great video Chis! well done as always, gave it the real Chris Touch🙂
That was some good luck on your part finding that old buried pipe. good looking job. You sure make it look easy. Thanks for letting me ride along with you.
Nice work on investigating the pond problem! It was fun watching you sort the problem out, although probably not so fun for you. Thanks for the interesting video
There is water solvable harmless pigment that can be used to track leaks ,for example if you have likly starting point you colour the watet there and you can trace the outflow downstream of the leak.
Seems odd that there was only a couple very small pieces of some old pipe and after the first 2-3', the dirt was bone dry but somehow that was causing that much water to run out the bottom.
When you said leak i thought you might have to start all over to find the problem luck was with you and it looks like a simple fix so glad to see and the SUN was out hope you have a better days ahead 👍👍👍
Have to send a special thank you for this one. I have a very similar situation with a leak in one of the ponds on my place. I intended to follow the outflow point until I located it's origin, same as you did. The confirmation was helpful.
I bet it’s leaking around that tree roots we had the same thing on a much bigger lake dug the tree out and used ten tons of bentonite clay . It stopped it . Good luck
Reminds me of what mechanics go through sometime.. Fix one known issue, and lo and behold, a new one pops up. With mechanics most of the time, they get blamed for the new problem. Sounds like you work with some pretty good land owners who you can show the issue to and they understand. Awesome job.
Good thing to found the problem there. Instead of waiting till all your equipment was gone, you'd have to bring it all back. I'm surprised you don't use any green dye or red dye to put in the water to see where it comes out. That would have been a good thing to put some in that one spot and see where it comes out but you got her fixed up. Good show. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
Bama Bass built a pond, had some leaks and ended up putting a two-part polymer along the pond dam in the water that gelled up and sealed his smaller leaks.
Outstanding diagnosis! A worthy reminder or lesson to maintain complete situational awareness with the entire project not just focusing on probabilities based upon our normal thought processes with assumptions and speculations. It's much like tracking, read all of the clues and then come up with an answer which usually supports Occam's razor... Have a great day and thanks bunches
Wow did not plan on pond repair this soon. Glad problem solved and back to normal. Thanks for the video. Hope you had a great time at the Volvo Expo? or new demo? OK are y'all just going to hog all the rain forever???? We are still in a drought down here in Texas. Send some our way... Please and Thank you.
Of course, your jobs always look good Chris! The pond is probably constructed out of junk, might be under a lot of pressure from being full! It’s like, you should’ve dug it out and put a whole new core trench!
Glad it appears to be a simple fix. Really is kind of wild a leak on the corner of the dam can exit in the middle of the dam. Guess it must show how much concrete and other debris must be buried in that dam for the leak to snake that far.
Quality workmanship as always Chris. It’s all your previous experiences that gives the insights and wisdoms needed when figuring out and fixing these hidden problems and challenges. Respects to you Fella..
Interesting video Chris. SO, in light of the outcome, do you think the best general strategy would be to start digging at the location of the visible leak and track it back to the source or dig along the dam wall where the path of water is most likely? Cheers EJ
Wow, That was a sweet move to put the excavator in the ditch to compact it at 19:10 to compact the clay. It is Very Nice to see you stand by your work Chris, even though this was beyond your control, you made it right. I wish more people took such pride in their work, no matter what it is. Thanks for being one of the "Good Guys" man. You set the Example! 😎
They needed 3 overflows for the pond lol a spillway and 2 thru pipes since they were all installed poorly and not functioning how they should. Seems your client is from the same state as me being a Lions fan, they suck but we still cheer for them lmao
When a customer doesn't want Chris to leave 😮 We were wondering what other secrets lay around this pond ? Glad that you spotted the water movement, that's why Men and their machines stop and have a talk on the Job ,you see things from different perspectives .
Sounds like initially you should have put a new core through the center of the whole width of the dam. Hopefully you’ve got the root cause and won’t be back.👍
interesting video Chris to see how you go about doing an emergency repair. Not interesting for Steve the owner of course. You are showing your experience 🇬🇧

No problem with the problem! Problems exist to be solved. 😃
That really is a natural looking pond. Beautiful.
I didn’t understand at first, you were digging down the dam in the backside now you’re fixing it here! Glad you still had the equipment there. Found and solved that mystery quick!
Almost the same as wearing a blindfold. NO idea what is underground around these Old Ponds. Nice Repair, Chris! 👍🙏
so glad to see a video of the pond being up to proper level . great job and great repair !
Way to stand behind your work and making it right! Well done!
Good thing the customer came by and you saw the problem. With out that you might have to dig the whole and that would suck! Now you get to clean the tracks off again. :) Thank you and have a great week.
Glad you found the issue right away!! Nice solution!!
I was thinking that when You were looking for where the leak was coming from that some dye in the water could show You the direction that the water was heading but You saw that with the movement of leaves etc. Good work once again Chris.
Good idea if that ever happened to me I never would have thought of that!
Nice video Chris. Spoting that water moving sure shaved a lot of digging.

Once - in all the years I followed him, I saw it one other time - so, still a master of his craft :)
Contractors with a good reputation will come back. You get what you pay for
All his equipment still on site made it even more convenient to rush back.
You are only as good as your last job! No one remembers the start of the job, but everyone remembers the end!
Nice catch on the hidden pipe, and nice repair on the problem, and like you said, at least the equipment was still on site$$$$, thanks for the update, enjoyed watching.
well done fixing the leak in the spillway, even with a muddy mess, you made it look great
Glad you found out about the leak before you moved equipment.
Good save on this Chris between you and the owner!
Boy what a stroke of luck to see that water flow! Good eye!
You did a fine job thinking through the cause and repair of the pond leak. Well done!
Good find Chris. Glad it was an easy fix.
Thank you for showing us problem areas! 👍👏❤😍
Chris doesn't feel like getting the compactor started so he just drives the excavator into the hole and packs it down, awesome.
Another job well done Chris I always have enjoyed watching you work around the ponds and especially the ones that you build yourself
That was some good luck on your part finding that old buried pipe. good looking job. You sure make it look easy. Thanks for letting me ride along with you.
Nice work on investigating the pond problem! It was fun watching you sort the problem out, although probably not so fun for you. Thanks for the interesting video
There are so many unknowns when you buy a property with a pond. Good job, Chris, and thankfully, you all found that spot.
Amazing how you spotted that very important movement.
But then again , Chris you have a eye for detail.
Just goes to prove - a couple of chaps standing on a dam is not a waste of time - great catch LetsDig18. Easy fix thank goodness.
Blokes got to have a yak aye ?
At least all the equipment was still there .
There is water solvable harmless pigment that can be used to track leaks ,for example if you have likly starting point you colour the watet there and you can trace the outflow downstream of the leak.
Glad you seen the water moving before you dug up the pond dam You must be living right!! Great quick fix and had good clay right within reach
Pure luck that you found that pipe. Nice job.
Wow, If You Hadn't Raised The Pond, You'd Never Known That Pipe Was There!! Great Detective Work, Once Again!!!
I figured this pond would top off after all that rain. Too find this before Chris left is good fortune/luck and be able to fix is great.
Seems odd that there was only a couple very small pieces of some old pipe and after the first 2-3', the dirt was bone dry but somehow that was causing that much water to run out the bottom.

Its always fun to test your experience and solve a problem and its nice to get lucky once in a while. Great job.
I bet it’s leaking around that tree roots we had the same thing on a much bigger lake dug the tree out and used ten tons of bentonite clay . It stopped it . Good luck
Glad it’s fixed it’s a really nice pond
Clay is quite valuable for projects such as this and serves as a natural water sealant. I see the material there is mostly sand.
Reminds me of what mechanics go through sometime.. Fix one known issue, and lo and behold, a new one pops up. With mechanics most of the time, they get blamed for the new problem. Sounds like you work with some pretty good land owners who you can show the issue to and they understand. Awesome job.
I'm not surprised about another leak after seeing the mess you pulled out of it to begin with. Hopefully this is the only repair you need to do.
Great fix
Luckily, while standing there talking, you noticed the flow of the water. Saved you a lot of time. 👍
If there ever was a good time for a leak this was it , the equipment was still there .
The old hidden pipe trick will get you every time
Naw, my wife never fell for that one.
Good thing to found the problem there. Instead of waiting till all your equipment was gone, you'd have to bring it all back. Bama Bass built a pond, had some leaks and ended up putting a two-part polymer along the pond dam in the water that gelled up and sealed his smaller leaks.
Lucky the pond filled up so quickly and no grass to hide the leak :-)
This was a very interesting and even a different type of repair job.
Stirring up mud is one good way to locate flow if it’s near the surface.

I thought you were on the hook for warranty work
Good thing the pond filled up while all your equipment was there
The dam of a thousand pipes! I found it very interesting the way your experienced mind worked to figure this mystery out.
This one could come back later and bite, Chris its great to see such integrity and skills keep it up.
Wow did not plan on pond repair this soon. Glad problem solved and back to normal. Thanks for the video. Hope you had a great time at the Volvo Expo? or new demo?

Great job guys. Hope that fixes the leak.
Good find and nice Pond
You were lucky to have found the problem that quick
I never saw the pipe, but a good fix.
awsome on the finding and the fix nice job. cheers.
Good morning everyone I hope you all enjoy your day we have a rainy day here today ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
🙂
Where do you live 😂😂
That was a lucky find Chris. Well done.
Glad it appears to be a simple fix. Really is kind of wild a leak on the corner of the dam can exit in the middle of the dam. Guess it must show how much concrete and other debris must be buried in that dam for the leak to snake that far.

Latent differing site conditions. I hope you and the land owner could afford to work things out!
Nice save!
You are bloody clever! Fixed with one machine!
On my property if you dig down two feet you hit that sticky gray clay. Makes a good pond but not so good for septic fields
Great job!
Chris, I always say, " I'd rarher be lucky than just plain good !! " Feel free to use as needed!!
You are living right is all I can say! You really could have opened a can of worms for nothing. Good save!
I'm sure he was relieved you were there on the case. Those concrete chunks were huge! They thought it would last, it did not.
Well good evening Chris I hope you've had a excellent year
Wow, That was a sweet move to put the excavator in the ditch to compact it at 19:10 to compact the clay. THANKS!

As someone that now has hearing aids. What are your thoughts on wearing ear protection while handling your equipment?
Man you got lucky finding that leak!
Definitely need to do a one-year anniversary check in video on this!
Never know what your gonna get into when go into those old works.
That property looks really classy now.
When a customer doesn't want Chris to leave 😮
We were wondering what other secrets lay around this pond ?
Glad that you spotted the water movement, that's why Men and their machines stop and have a talk on the Job ,you see things from different perspectives .
Nice catch
Well it seemed like an easy fix Chris.
Concrete scrap will always come back and haunt you
Sounds like initially you should have put a new core through the center of the whole width of the dam. Hopefully you’ve got the root cause and won’t be back.👍
interesting video Chris to see how you go about doing an emergency repair. Not interesting for Steve the owner of course. You are showing your experience 🇬🇧
Are the bucket pins and bushings clapped out in this machine already?
Walk the top section and find the intake. Take it from an old irrigator. Find the intake is the only fix.
Hopefully that's the fix great video thanks Chris
