Here's some food for thought: Its evidently ok for a movie to focus on Latinos , or Asians , or any other " minority ", but one where Caucasian white is the spotlight ? You'd virtually for certain get DROWNED by accusations of " white supremacy ", " racism " , and " bigotry " But, white is a color as well, leftists

Miguel being a minority is used for a few pretty funny jokes but he stands as his own as a character. In this film he’s just some generic stereotypical Latino, what a missed opportunity
People can have different opinions. I was excited to finally see a mexican superhero, and this movie gave me just that and i loved it. Yea sure there wasn’t a lot of representation for other latinos, but what did you want? Every single latino country being represented in one movie???
@@speedycerviche2380 Two of the family members are/were illegal, per the dialog in the movie. The grandmother and Jaime's father. They specifically name those two and only those two, suggesting that George Lopez is legal. It would make sense that George Lopez was legal since they had that automotive repair shop. That said, I loved this movie. I have a feeling a lot of the people who aren't going to see it because of reviews like this one are going to see it at a later date and really enjoy it. Especially fans of the Blue Beetle, both Ted Kord and Jaime Reyes. What makes me sad is that I think this movie will flop because of the stupid shit the director said which isn't really that present in the movie itself, in addition to James Gunn saying he was rebooting everything, means we'll never get to see Ted Kord and Booster Gold on the big screen together in a Blue & Gold movie. It's a real shame, because I'm pretty sure they were setting that up in this movie.
I think one of the more painful things is having the scarab have a voice like Alexa instead of like in Young Justice where he had this alien creature type of voice that the voice actor of Jaime also did. He did both voices amazing and gave off that alien creature AI feel.
@@yagamifire7861 Look at all of the cartoons we grew up with vs the movies that are getting shat out these days. Static Shock handled racial tensions/identity way better than Black Panther. @NC_Legend you are definitely right look at classic cartoons like gargoyles, that is still one of the best written, animated, and acted stories I have ever seen. David Zanatos is one of the best villains in any medium I have ever seen. Also of course voiced by the iconic Jonathan Frakes. Hell the show had so many great characters and villains its insane, demona and Macbeth, Eliza was a great female character....sorry kinda went on a tangent there but basically I will argue that gargoyles is one if the best piece of media ever. The line is actually funny, I think people got mad about it because political messaging has been shoehorned into entertainment so much lately that movie goers are getting hyper sensitive to it and in this case didn’t recognize it to be the joke it was ment to be

For example, the OMACs are being made by Kord Industries instead of LexCorp, but do we really want Jessie Eisenberg back to introduce the OMACs? Probably not. The director really nuked his film career by opening up his mouth and just to point this out there was already a popular hispanic hero out there called Zorro and that character was one of several inspirations that lead to the creation of Bruce Wayne/Batman and Batman is the face of DC(Detective Comics) and so in truth every DC hero including Blue Beetle owes everything to the Dark Knight and the Dark Knight owns his creation to the real first hispanic vigilante/superhero(Zorro himself).
Glad to see barely anyone's impressed by this DCU bull crap. This is what I've been saying. DCU is a Marvel duplicate, with stupid humor, (dookie/fish jokes), one dimensional villains and doesn't care about DC. Just forcing a bad style. I hope your happy Gunn, DC is gone. Permanently.

In the newer comics the scarabs A.I Keshida is very violent and when Jaimes friend finds out he's secret the scarab kills him. The movie could've been better if they put that in the story, Jaime gets the scarab and can't control it and Keshida ends up killing his friend Paco. Jaime afraid of hurting his other friends and family leaves home to learn how to control the suit. He ends up using it to protect the city and when he has the chance to remove it he decides to keep it. Giving up his normal life with his family to be a hero.
5:01 In all fairness, the scarab in the comics as well as most cartoon adaptations is similar to venom in terms of the it wants to kill but the host doesn’t aspect. It’s not really a ripoff, it’s just a coincidence. And a comic-accurate one at that.
I didn't say it was a ripoff. The problem is Venom did it in the movies first. And I can't stand the Venom movies; I'm just calling this like I see it. It was up to them to find a way of presenting this dynamic that would feel unique to the Blue Beetle and they didn't.
@@thoriasunlimited4053 I get what you’re saying, but I fail to see how they could present that dynamic in a way that is faithful to the comics while making it unique and not “copying” the Venom movie. It would be the same case with you probably having the same criticism of a character like Firestorm being accurately represented. Firestorm has the same general vibe of that type of dynamic with a voice in his head. I don’t doubt that the movie is lazy in all the other aspects you described, but I don’t think nitpicking one of the few good areas of a comic book character adaptation that actually got the characterization right based on it being too similar to an adaptation of a character with a similar shtick is fair criticism.
I’m double Latina (born and raised in Venezuela, naturalized Mexican) an my favorite part of the movie is how they call “representation” just throwing the most stereotypical and shallow Mexican and pocho tropes I have ever seen, as a Venezuelan, as a Mexican, as a comic book movie fan and as a person I was completely offended. I feel so bad for Xolo.
And i’m a Mexican-American who’s indigenous and i thought this movie was great without any real stereotypes or tropes because if you arent latino or mexican you wouldn’t even get it to begin with. Zaslav did the same thing with Batgirl. Originally created for Max as a show, but after watching dailies, he decides it'd be better as a movie. Movie is mostly completed and then canceled. Blue Beetle had the exact same origins except for the cancellation. Anytime the movie starts promoting itself as being a cultural representation and ignoring anything about the story you know the movie is in trouble. Also, how was the budget so high? Another CG fest ending? I suspect so. Looking at the trailer it seems closer to a CW show. That's a real shame. Ted Kord was a fun and smart Blue Beetle, almost as smart as Bruce Wayne. It could have introduced Booster Gold and Guy Gardner in a cameo at a bar too. The family issue sounds like it's lifted from both Shazam movies.
The biggest strain of credulity in this movie, more than an alien beetle suit, is that a young man with a 4 year law degree can't get a decent job. They could have fixed one of the biggest plot holes in this movie if Jaime had gotten a job as a law/file clerk at Korg Industries and was working late one night, and bam! bad stuff happens. But I guess it's harder being a Latino in America than it is fighting bad guys.
What would've been a better version of the movie was if it focused on the relationship between Jaime and the scarab, maybe even have the scarab kill someone whilst it's controlling him, which jepordises the link/connection between the two and how they eventually have a good symbiotic relationship.
THANK YOU. Now the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle comics are my FAVORITE ONES. But this movie wasn't Jaime's movie. It was the director's movie that he used Jaime as a TOOL to deliver his own badly-integrated messages. The director should've just made his own movie instead of propagating Blue Beetle as a tool for his own devices.
I e remember once upon a time ago that there was plans for a booster gold blue beetle movie. Which would’ve been a buddy cop time travel type of story…,honestly with the reboot coming up, I think that would’ve been more plausible and enjoyable to see than this and the flash combined
Ok, so get this. There's this evil corporation right, and they have this weird sort of alien technology, and one of the leaders of this corporation is a red-headed lady. Evil Incorporated intends to use the technology for their evil plans. But one of the people who work at Evil Incorporated steals the technology and Smuggles it out. The technology is in this sort of strange looking container. Through circumstances, the container gets passed to our hero. The heroes "family" convinces him to open the container. When the hero touches it, the technology fuses with him, creating this kick ass armored suit that's some kind of weapon. The suit also has an ai that can kick in when the hero is in danger, for example, if he gets knocked unconscious. The Hero Discovers that the technology is an ancient, Sentient weapon that has chosen him as its host. But Evil Incorporated wants to get the technology back so they create their own Dark mirror version of the hero with one of their employees who has his own version of the technology infused to his body. Evil Incorporated knows they can get to the hero through his family, so they send their army after his family, which ends up in his father being killed. Evil Incorporated captures the hero and tries to remove his technology, causing the hero to be "incapacitated." However, he Awakens and fully embraces the technology. The hero is able to exploit his evil mirrors, weakens, and defeats him, causing his suit to self destruct killing him. Oh, you thought I was describing the plot to Blue Beatle? No, I was describing the plot to The Guyver, which is why I wasn't interested in seeing this movie. I have no interest in seeing a worse telling of story I've already seen. Remember how DC sued Fawcett back in the day because they thought Captain Marvel was a Superman rip-off? How did DC not get sued with this complete rip-off of a character?
This was a superhero movie with a protagonist whose powers randomly turn on and off, totally at the whim of the plot. From the beginning, they steal a scene from Shang Chi to have him cut a bus in half. This makes no sense at all, as his suit has just been shown to be able to fly around at extreme speeds, and yet now it decides to use a power which is never brought out again. Then, in the final action scene, he's running from an explosion and jumping out over a cliff, to be caught by another character and pulled to safety. BLUE BEETLE CAN FLY! The first thing he does is fly into orbit, yet now he can't manage a ten foot leap!
This movie is a stark reminder that even if you got a really good star actor in it, bad writing can ruin everything else so bad that even that star can't save it.
In all these superhero movies the hero and villain have the same powers. Time to change things up. Black Panther = Killmonger, Ant Man = Yellow Jacket and the list goes on.

Beyond all the other obvious reasons this movie was gonna bomb, the fact it's a D-Lister that no one asked for would've been enough on its own. Not a fan of blue beetle, but I love the manga/anime counterpart Guyver. I think they could have drawn some inspiration form that story and gone a little darker. Ah well.
The Guyver is badass. I was obsessed with that manga. Funny thing is it did the storyline of the armor being a killer, while the host isn't SO much better than this movie did. People can have different opinions. I was excited to finally see a mexican superhero, and this movie gave me just that and i loved it. Yea sure there wasn’t a lot of representation for other latinos, but what did you want? Every single latino country being represented in one movie???
The movie makers say a movie about alien technology is an allegory for illegal immigration, hum, who is calling immigrants aliens now?
try "invaders".
While also implying that the family are in the country illegally.
“They’re not from around here, they look and sound different, we’re kind of scared of them, just like you guys!”
So they're basically being racist without admitting they're racist. Typical.

For example, the OMACs are being made by Kord Industries instead of LexCorp, but do we really want Jessie Eisenberg back to introduce the OMACs? Probably not.
There's a LOT of Ted Kord stuff in this even though a lot fo reviews seem to make it seem like they're making Jaime be the first Blue Beetle.

Imagine if Jamie killed someone in his first fight and had to deal with that realistically.

Maybe because the Guyver manga hasn't really been in the public consciousness for a while, it's taking longer for the lawyers to notice?
El Paso is the closest you'll find to a fully Latino city in the entire universe 🤦🏽♂️

Thanks to your reviews i only saw 3 movies this summer
Sound of freedom
Mission impossible
Oppenheimer
Money well spent
Always very thorough reviews.
Can you imagine a white old lady doing the exact same thing, saying the exact same thing but replacing white with "Black" or "Hispanic" or "Asian" or "Arab" or "Jew" Or "Indian" or "Native American" ?
Don't get me started on that first fight scene! oh god! Jaime keeps lowering his guard after he thinks he won the fight, and the scarab keeps saying you need to kill him. But jaime won't? This guy is going to kill you and your family. If not kill him, take him to the cops or something!!! He stands there and gets knocked out with one punch! (also jaime has regen powers) So george lopez has to launch a generator at the villain. AHHHHHH! WHAT AM I WATCHING?!
He’s learning ?
BTW, love your sign offs.
Love how our Latino/Hispanic representation from Hollywood now are sterotypes and slurs at us, which is from a Latino, George Lopez... no care shown from creating this movie
Great review as always.
As Boricua 🇵🇷 The LAST Latino hero I rooted for and like was Antonio Banderas in Zorro.
The Mask of Zorro was a great movie.
Lmao Dominican here 🇩🇴, I remember watching that too when I was growing up.
I don't know why, but somehow I agree with this guy even when I might think he is wrong. Keep up the good work and keep em coming. Regards!
I'm Latino and this doesn't appeal to me, guess what my favorite hero is Batman and I guess James gunn passing notes to copy marvel wasn't the best play
James Gunn had nothing to do with this movie.
this movie makes me both happy and worried about my own writing, as I'm working to write scripts for TV shows and movies. I'm happy because it seems that companies will just make movies but also worried because everything has to be a message.
i wrote out a plotline for a blue beetle movie about jaime living in el paso texas and fighting the madmen cartel as they produce a new drug called "reach" which works like the drink from young justice, and eventually jaime fights the leader and it's revealed he is a member of the reach and a lot of stuff happens. I'll rather blue beetle fight drug dealers and aliens rather than a racist white lady. but what do i know.
Doesnt seem like you know jack shit
You know more and better than the hacks who made this drek, that's for darn sure.
thank you :)@@ghidorah15
We have the cha ching sound for money we need a sound for the opposite. Every time these actors or directors open their mouth we need to be able to play that sound.
This is what happens when a cinematic universe gets senioritis.
This movie was just 127 minutes of slapping the audience in the face with a wet churro while chanting insulting stereotypes and racial slurs. How that passes for representation is beyond me.
The Guyver doesn't discriminate; it views EVERYTHING as a threat, so giving the Guyver control is basically like setting off a WMD. Poor Sho found that out the hard way. That storyline hit so damn hard.
I'm a Latino. This movie was in my opinion the most racist movie in the last 10 years. Holy shit was it offensive.
I’m also latino. Just curious why did you think it was racist?
@@honestabe7373 The heavy often over exaggerated stereotypical leanings. I found it worse than the Wakanda Forever "defeat him by drying his back" plot point.
The "representation" in this movie was some straight up Mad TV type of writing. Total Parody.
@@donquixote2072Nah, a parody would actually be funny or at least try to be.
I just wanna 🪨
Smallville did it better, plus it had the perfect Booster Gold.
yep
This sounds like it should've been on the CW. No thanks.
You know the movie or show sucks when all they talk about is the inclusive and diverse cast.
You know someone’s opinion sucks when the only thing they focus on is the stuff that makes them upset because ohhh no a group of marginalized people are being represented for once 😢
@@Shigzmi So stunning, so brave.
I was with a friend at the movie... I can't remember having seen anything in the cinema that lacked any original spark in EVERY scene until the last minute like this movie did ever before!
And I doubt any ethnic latino would ever feel flattered considering this family thinks cacti are the ideal garden plant even though the grass in their garden was probably greener than the one in Ireland...
I think this is the MOST uncreative movie I've ever seen... it's like someone spliced many movies of the last 20years into segments then changed persons and locations and spliced it back into one movie and just looked for when what has to happen to keep a story structure.
