Yeah, had that happen with an oblivious jetski "operator". He drove another 100m with my brother and I yelling to him & our lines screaming out. He went down to an idle & answered his phone, the whole time line was still coming off the reels and a fair clip. We guessed the line had gone up the jet intake and wrapped the impeller shaft. We were still yelling because that was gonna create problems for him. He glanced at us once, flipped us the bird so that's when we decided to not warn him anymore. We busted both lines off shortly after using a knife. I reckon he ended up with 300m of braid from each rod, so 600m in total up & around his impeller.

was out trauling for some kingies off sydney with my new reverly I got as a christmas present and these two blokes on a shitter of a boat pass within 5 meters of us, even though we are going a trauling speed and have 3 rods out the back, they stop momentarily, then sped off and spooled me. When we confronted them they hoped we got "eaten by a great white shark" and sped off.

Good job addressing that boat incident. The only thing I would add to make people aware is that fishing line, especially braid, can really damage a boat's engines as well so unless a boater isn't worried about being dead in the water after spinning a couple hundred meters of line into the prop shaft and seal, boaters had best stay clear of any boat with lines out. Should be a bit more of a motivating factor than inconveniencing fishermen.

You are classier than I am. This happens to me way too often, where a boater comes way too close while trolling or drifting.
At a minimum, I always hope that they spool me and it all wraps around their Prop Shaft and eats their Seal. Again, you're classier than I.

    Nice dollies
I did have a cat heading for my high speed (30kph) hoo rig once at the shelf (we were only two out there) - I stalled the boat and pointed hard at the trolling line - the cat stalled and reversed - worked out okay. Did lose one rig once from the a wake crossing from a 6.5m glass cabin boat 250hp - would have been a nice catch but instead lost a $100 set-up. Long cable trace + trolling weight and big skirt - wished it upon his motor in an animated fashion.

    Gday Sammy
I’m a long time viewer and fan. I enjoy watching all your videos either viewing you alone or fishing with Tin ass Shaun’o or with the Phantom. My wish is to go on a days outing with you and Shauno and the phantom before I can’t no more. My hard luck story starts with my brand new boat being stollen just before my divorce and I lost all in the courts to my ex
The last day in my house I had a heart attack which ended my health. With in a few months I was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell cancer which is aggressive and spreading. My dream before my days out is to enjoy a day out fishing to hopefully get many best PBS if possible but unlikely. I truly couldn’t think of a better of couple of blokes to wet a line with than Shauno and the Phantom to enjoy a day out fishing with Even better if it was on the electric reel as I’ve lost a crap load of muscle mass already It’s my wish before it’s my time
If not. I understand no worries no problem.
Thanks Sammy and I hope you do at least read this request and consider my last wish before we depart Tight lines ALL

  • @JS-sx3bl
    @JS-sx3bl Рік тому

    Yep It happens
Good showing an unfortunate occurrence while trolling. It’s good to have an awareness by other fisherman to give the slower boats a wide berth.
It’s seems to be crossing the their bow is best, by the faster non trolling boats vrs the slower trolling boats.
I’d say the other boat may have it worse off in their near future when their lower end seal fails due to your line wound around it.

Kayaking a huge river, went too far downstream and I was struggling to return and lucky me I ran into a long-ass piece of floating braid line which got tangled in the prop of my pedal drive, i don't know how I didn't lose my shit I guess I was just too focused on overcoming that monstruous current that survival mode just kicked in and I took my paddle and paddled the hardest I ever did to get to the closest landing shore haha. Sammy, was this trip Friday 20 Jan ???. I was there Thurs 19 in 5-10knots wind but with atrocious sea as it had not settled down from previous days of 20+ knots.
Week before I got 11kg + 8kg Wahoo at sunrise just east of Hutchy's while laying out the spread at 3-4 knots ... thought that really weird. Solo double hook-up on the first two lures that went out ... go figure. Nudda for rest of the morning except 8am high tide change when belter Wahoo headed for NZ. Made the mistake of putting the rod down after 10-15mins initial runs to clear other lines only to get bitten off ... another lesson learned.🤔

This stuff happens soo often when landbased fishing and a fellow fishi trolling divers just run straight over the lines

There seems to be arguments for both sides down here. It would be a very big shame when the day comes that fisherman can’t keep a fish to share with their family though!

Hi Sammy. From southern states. Just spent a few weeks up north with other Mexicans. Big argument in the boat was what is the best trolling speed. We were chasing mackerel and tuna. Cheers.

Thanks for watching! Troll Speed really depends on what lures or baits you are using. I like to try go faster rather than slower 👌🍻

Complete offshore noob here, but why do you keep the boat in gear when hooked on to a fish? Just so the boat continues to track straight and true while solo, instead of spinning around in the wind/current?

My point in comment above... being solo it's a stupid move... considering he's got no flotation device on either.... accident waiting to happen.👍
