    So I know people are going to ask a number of WTF questions .... so here goes :)
    1) The reason the key hints keeps changing mid ship combat are because I am using a Flight Stick that emulates a controller AND a keyboard. I'm not actually using a controller.
    2) The reason I was failing to dock was because even though I saw the key I had to press, I didn't notice that it was HOLD rather than PRESS :)
    3) Yes I figured it out after a short while.
    This was the point I described in this video (ua-cam.com/video/X9u-Mdd2FAE/v-deo.html) where I was tweaking the setup to get it working well for me.

    When they introduced wolves into the Yellowstone NP it led to better control of deer stock, leading the growth of forest. So one change can have big changes on an ecosystem.

    It’s interesting to see Gopher have Malcolm react with uncertainty and fear when confronted by the StarBorn. I happened to be playing a more aggressive and violent character the first time I encountered them so I found out immediately that they are soft and squishy. In person they are a bit tougher than your standard pirate, but their ships are practically made of paper. I’m looking forward to Gopher’s reaction when he realizes this when he finally chooses to fight one. I’m imagining him saying something like, “is that it?”

    Love ya to death, gopher, but man I was screaming at you to keep that ship! lol. Shielded cargo capacity, some decent weapons, lots of room to build off of… yeah, it had a weak reactor and kinda low over-all cargo, but that is so easily upgraded. Honestly, that’s my only frustration with this playthrough is the lack of ship building. I’d torn down and rebuilt 3 ships by this level in my own first playthrough, and I really want to see what you could do with the ship builder after seeing all the amazing stuff you did with the FO4 settlements back in the day. I’m sure you got into it eventually, but there’s been so many missed opportunities to do stuff with this playthrough it’s like a cliffhanger every episode. Will he finally get a decent ship? lol
    Anyway, I’ll still be watching cause I love your content. This was just such a tease this episode I had to make a comment. XD

      Remember this was quite early on. I know it's episode 64, which for you guys is months in ... but this was all back in september for me. And I'd really only scratched the surface of understanding the ship buy/build system, as it's something that's more mid to end-game because of costs. I think at this point I had almost enough money to buy a ship OR upgrade an acquired one half way at best. Without foreknowledge, I had no way of really knowing what the best option was, and I correctly assumed I'd probably only get one shot at it with the money I had at this point. I needed to find a ship that I was damned sure I wanted to spend money on.

    • @Sp4rt4nSl4ya
      @Sp4rt4nSl4ya 9 місяців тому +1

      @@GophersVidsI'd say you're probably right in that with your current funds in this episode, you could probably have upgraded the Frontier by a good bit, but not bring it to its fullest potential. However what's stopping you there is parts access because you don't have any of the ship builder perk levels. As for the rest? I don't agree with ship building being a mid to end game thing because of cost, at least not if you take advantage of the opportunities presented to you. Foresight or no, taking a few thousand credits each time friendly ships hail you in thanks after a battle adds up over time. Selling a ship from each battle adds up over time. You don't need one of those "infinite credit" exploit guides to have the money to fix up your ship with good parts at your current character level, you just have to not say no to money. Like OP I had commandeered a few ships by roughly the same point in the game as you and had been throwing credits left and right at them, because like you I didn't know what the better option was, and what parts were good. I think the difference in playstyle and mentality is probably the main thing here, you were biding your time and mentally working it out, considering carefully how to spend your money. Meanwhile I started crawling all over it like a gremlin trying to figure out every last nuance of it by feel, and taking extra steps to fund my "research", like looting every weapon and apparel enemies had on them for credits, on top of selling captured ships and taking creds for helping 😅
      The real issue I think that bothers me about you using what is essentially a musket to fight in modern warfare, is most of the ship fights you tend to seem frustrated or even angry and I don't like the idea of you not having fun doing what you do, but then it's confusing when you keep insisting on using the "musket" and turning down opportunities for something better.
      Still love your content, I think we all just play a little different and the urge to go "why the heck are you doing it that way?" gets a little strong sometimes.😉
      Hope you and your family have a happy Yule! 🙂

      @@Sp4rt4nSl4ya *"I don't agree with ship building being a mid to end game thing because of cost, at least not if you take advantage of the opportunities presented to you. "* - Yeah, on NG+ play throughs I did. But ship building is very expensive, and was intended to be mid to late game, and indeed it really is on your first play through (unless you go in with foreknowledge and kind of min/max a little.
      *"Foresight or no, taking a few thousand credits each time friendly ships hail you in thanks after a battle adds up over time."* - There are plenty of easier ways to make money once you know how. It depends on what sort of character you're playing.
      *" I think the difference in playstyle and mentality is probably the main thing here, you were biding your time and mentally working it out, considering carefully how to spend your money. "* - I think it's less me trying to work everything out mentally, and more that I tend to like to try one thing out at a time. Each session I sat down to record, I was probably either trying one new thing in game, or indeed one new mod/tweak to get the space combat working for me. And there's no way around doing it that way if you want to understand what each change does. In fact I think this episode may have even be the one where I began to seriously consider upgrades and ship building due to finally feeling like I had the setup to enjoy the space combat.

      @@GophersVids I wouldn't exactly have taken Malcomb for an altruist given you sound reluctant anytime you don't take the credit reward but I won't question it further.
      I get what you mean about the controls though.
      It's sometimes easy to forget you use highly different methods of control and hardware than me, mainly because I'm over here with digital key inputs and non inverted Y axis mouse control and content with it. But I can understand if you're using something different each session it doesn't make sense to fly something new that handles differently when trying to get a feel for whatever tweaks you made. I'm glad you did end up finding something that works for you considering how often you can run into fights in this game and it'd suck if you were never able to enjoy it.

    I swear I can hardly stand the passing up of ships, especially that B-class smuggler. At least keep some cheap ships you can register and disassemble to use their title to build a custom ship that you actually like. With a reactor and weapons replacement (not upgrade, replacement) it would have been great.

    • @GophersVids
      @GophersVids  9 місяців тому +1

      Foreknowledge is a heavy burden to bear :) But I wouldn't worry about it. Remember, this character has the WANTED trait. That means non stop bounty hunters, ecliptics and of course all the spacers/Crimson fleet too. Getting the hang of disabling ships was the more important task. Once you figure that out, getting ships to use is not a problem any more.

    • @GophersVids
      @GophersVids  9 місяців тому +6

      It's actually a hell of lot easier. You get a LOT more peripheral awareness. Sure the ship can obstruct your view sometimes, but so can the edge of the windows in the ship. But it's especially useful to be in third person when trying to target an enemy just out of view because you see them much earlier and can relax on the flight stick earlier so you don't overshoot them due to the controls having a bit of a delay on them.

      I prefer first person as well, I never felt like I needed to see more around me or my ship that I couldn't already see from the cockpit. Anything not in LOS I have scanner contact blips for and can mentally visualize their positions relative to mine. In third person I find my own ship to be unnecessary white noise that distracts and messes with my spacial awareness, I'm more likely to crash into something in third person than first when flying close to objects. It's all a matter of preference and anyone who says one is objectively better as a fact is opinionated, do whatever works for you.
