@@Nanaa-t6u Same thing that this video talks about! They go hand in hand :) You must consume slower and less content because your brain can only hold so much at once!
@@carolinaCCC5yay thank you! I see you’re already supporting my UA-cam podcast channel so just wanted to let you know that the episodes will be released there first and then on other platforms for listening on the go :))
Exactly, that is how I feel when I've realized that I have wasted 1 full hour on youtube shorts without realizing it. I deleted Tik Tok just to not have the same thing where I really only skim through the videos yet that's what I have been doing still. When I realize it, i decide to read/go out/study a topic/journal/listen to a podcast and so much more. It's in your possession and that's why it's necessary to know how to take action.
Hai, this ain’t my main acc but eh idc So I’m fairly young (under 13) and my mom is planning to start a gym membership for me (I didn’t ask for it) and well I decided “well if ima make my physical health better might as well make my mental health as it was when I was younger” so I watched this and I somehow managed to not scroll or click off and the only times I got distracted was when I was checking out ur house and I got a health notification so I checked it so id say I’m doing well, now ofc I still didnt make any progress cuz it’s been 10 mins… but another way I think could help is less shortening of words (slang) and writing and going for walks could also help, ima go set up the focus and turn off notifications now, this is one of the only ones that ACTUALLY help and aren’t just torture and “self discipline” Thank you.

This was exactly what you were not supposed to do, let people watch these types of videos. Its not a waste of time when you are gaining knowledge or some kind of benefit for a long term in your life.
the most important thing that i don't wanna miss out on is me being young and realizing that every day will be the youngest I'll ever be. i agree with you when you said that we should be curious like a kid because doing it will make us "present" in the moment; not thinking of anything else and just living the moment.
I can add some ADHD tips: 1. Talk out loud and say what you are going to do and when. 2. Colour lists with markers. Hang them on the wall to not forget them. Out of sight, out of mind. 3. Put round green stickers on the task list whenever you did something for it. Doesnt mean its complete, does mean that you put effort into it and cann visually see the effort. 4. Set timers and challenge yourself to do the task in that time
One more tip: it doesn't work for me every time, but sometimes it does. When you really try to focus on one task instead of switching and actually put effort into not switching, your mind will find other things to latch on: for me it's daydreaming. I could be in the middle of writing an email when I come up with a bright idea of immediately jumping up and doing one-leg sit-ups because it's cool and then I tell myself no, stop. You need to finish writing. So then I look at my screen and proceed to daydream about how I've already learned to do one-leg sit-ups and have a calisthenics vlog and thousands of people are impressed with me, asking for advice. That's where the elastic bracelet comes in. As soon as you recognise that you're dreaming, pull back the elastic and hit yourself. Over time the pain discourages you at least from thinking about that particular daydream, even if it can't stop it altogether.
After I deleted all of my other social medias, I started to notice that I not only used UA-cam much more, the way I used it also changed. Quite often I'd interrupt an educational video with fastpaced music, because I had gotten bored. This prevents me from gaining the knowledge from these videos which I veru rarely watch till the end. So that's the first step I will be taking: watching longform content till the end, no distractions. Thank you for the amazing advice!
I want to be fully present in the moment. To live in the moment and to make the most of my life. "You're in the drivers seat, it's time to start acting like it" gonna write that down on my notebook! 💪🏼
I realized I had a problem so so many times but tried to denied it, it actually sacares me doing nothing with my life, I truly want to be present in what I live. So I’m committed to minimize multitasking, be curious like a child and define no phone zones. Thank you community, I will try it but it is comforting to me to know I’m not alone.
I didn’t realise what a terrible attention span I had until I realised I could barely sit through this video - but I’m going to try and use those habits to change and improve!!
@a.veryrandom.person I do the same but on 2x and dont plan on stopping. On a lot of videos the visuals dont matter (like this one, where most of the visual content is just her speaking or illustrative images), and on top of that 1x just feels like 0.5x at this point lol. I be like "Damn why u talking so slow"
@@user-ox7um3ym7i yessss if it’s like an auditory video i speed it up to like 1.5x or even 2x but for watching things like minecraft videos or gaming content i do 1.25x
damn, this video is a massive eye opener. i’ve been feeling like something is off in my life for so long now. it’s like there’s something wrong with me, or that i’m not really here. anytime i’m with family or friends, i’m sitting there counting down the minutes until i can leave the situation and shrink back into my head. i don’t have the attention span for existing anymore. thank you for helping me see that.
As a child I used to be naturally smart and everyone told me I brightened up the room whenever I walked in but as I grew older, I realized I was not that smart anymore. I had to study more and my grades got worse. After a while of trying to improve, I mainly focused on schoolwork and even though I had a lot of trouble working myself up, I still made it. Now I finished 8th grade as the top student of my class and I am very proud of myself. I wish everybody a nice day and stay healthy ❤❤
You're a very sweet person. Just a reminder to you and anyone else reading; that conventional schooling covers a very narrow range of appliable intelligence. So if someone doesn't do well in school, sometimes it's because they're born to do well in areas not yet taught in school.
im in the exact same position. it often gets stressful but i am devoted reaching my goals and trying hard. I have to remind myself of that so i dont scare myself too much, but also the nerves are a sign that i care so i guess thats a positive
This actually had me thinking. I grew up a straight A student. It was a time when not everyone had cell phones. I would spend time drawing and doing things I loved. Then these things started to get boring and I couldn't focus on them for more than a little while. And I also started struggling with my studies. Now I can hardly focus on anything. But I believe its not just a discipline problem, it is also a coping mechanism. To distract myself from life stressor. Well today, I watched the entire video without scrolling through the comment section or opening shorts in the middle. I really needed that reminder. Thank you. You just got a new sub❤
@@harukahyuuga7895 Hey, I hope you’re having a great day :) I just want to tell you that God loves you so much, He created you for a purpose. 🫶 We have all sinned by breaking God’s laws. Sin is the reason we die and sin takes us to hell. But God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, who is One with God, to save us ✝️ Jesus was killed on a cross to pay for our sins in our place, He never sinned but died as a sacrifice for us 💕 He came back to life on the third day, defeating death! John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” If someone repents and puts their faith in Jesus, they will be saved 🩷 repent means to have a change of mind; we realize we have done evil against God which leads to turning away from sin and turning to Jesus 💕💕 when we place our faith in Jesus we trust that He died to pay for our sins and rose again, we trust in Him alone to save us and as the Lord of our lives. Sadly, those who are not in Jesus will not be saved, they will go to hell. But God offers forgiveness of sins and eternal life through Jesus 🫶 The Bible is the word of God; the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are the gospels of Jesus in the Bible. God bless you 💕💕
as someone who's easily distracted, this is a real lifesaver; i always procrastinate because i end up getting distracted by the tiniest things.. your videos genuinely can be applied anywhere and i love them
I don't know your situation, but may I ask why you decided to leave this condition go untreated? I only saw a doctor for my procrastination two years ago and got diagnosed with ADHD, I never knew I had it. Wished I knew about it sooner so I could have gotten earlier help from doctors.
It's really sad and kinda scary to realize how much i've been missing on life. I've tried so many times to get my shit together and I failed every single one. This Is literally my last shot at this, the idea is there, I just gotta put it in to action.
Your last shot at this? And if you feel you failed, again? What then? You're going to give up? How old are you? Remember this core thing. Very important to keep yourself going in live. You will never fail until you stop trying. Those who failed are those who gave up. Do NOT give up and you will succeed eventually. You can do this. Maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow but there will come a day when you can but you'll never know if you give up.
thank you for making this video and using a clean, down-to-earth approach without making harsh judgment (which is needed in a few cases) 💞 I've been meaning to tackle the issue of lower attention span because it's constantly eating my time away, leaving me with zero ways of improving my everyday routine without getting stuck in a endless loop. Honestly, the idea of achieving 8 goals to gain control is awesome and it makes it easier to follow through considering it minimize (in a way) the thought process and actually put the weight of the responsibility on our capacity of making decision in a conscious way. 1. Don't have dynamic tabs open 2. Minimize multitasking 3. No phone zones 4. Say "I'Il do it after [x]" 5. Automate work / school mode hours on phone 6. Be curious like a kid 7. Consume long-form content 8. Consume to absorb, not to skim. I want to achieve goal n° 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8. I'll start by the basics with n° 2 because I feel like being a university student puts me in a position where I have to manage multiple lessons and assignments and I fail because I focus on multiple things at once without prioritising anything in a meaningful way, then move on to a more wide, attentive approach towards life in general to be able to catch everything that happens without getting distracted so easily. I wish good luck everyone who's trying to fix their attention span, you can do it !! 🎀
As someone who's undiagnosed with adhd, tysm for not blaming phones. I am so tired of being told my problems come from my phone when i literally study with no notifications, deleted social media and i only play video games half an hour or so after a whole day of studying.
it's funny because this video randomly popped up on my feed and before clicking on it, i told myself "you have the opportunity to decide... you can watch a burger mukbang and waste 17 minutes of your life, or maybe get something out of it". before it was even mentioned, i dared myself to watch the whole video on 1x speed and no distractions. it made me so sad hearing you talk about how you can start missing out on major events of your life by not being fully present bc just this year i realized how little i remembered from big life events that happened this year (graduating, finishing my internship, traveling, etc.), so one of the reasons why i want to work on my attention span is to be fully present during my upcoming trips this year! tysm for this video
wow... you just made me realise that i have the exact same problem. i've always attributed me not remembering things as "memory getting worse" and i often miss the times when I was younger because my memory was so much better. but maybe the issue wasn't my memory getting worse, it was my attention span declining. if i had been fully present when studying or doing things, life may not have felt like it just flew by--- seriously wow, who knew that a tip to improving your 'memory' is to improve your attention span... i have to try it out now
Same! I was going to write something similar and I completely agree with you. Just feels like I’m going through the motions and life is going way too fast. Thought I could be depressed because I’ve lost interest in so many things, but really I think it’s my attention span!
@@devios911 Is ASMR also not for you? It's a similar type of appeal. If so, it might just be that your mind doesn't work in the same way that others do - and that's okay. So long as you don't hate on others who *do* still like it.
while watching this and listening. i even felt stress leaving my body. i'm glad i found this video it made me realise i have to take a step back and really process eveything that is happening around me. thank you.
I really needed this video because i clicked on it and immediately switched to another tab and started watching a movie, stopped the movie and started watched insta reels. 2 hrs later realised what i was supposed to do and sat with full focus throughout the video lol.
What I don’t want to miss out on is having a dull life while I’m still young. I have many years ahead of me, and I’ve been lazy, internet-addicted, overexposed, etc. But I want to enjoy life, not just get through it until i reach the part i wanted. Something I learned is that you often enjoy the journey more than the destination. I’ve been working out, spending time with my loved ones (or trying) and overall just aiming to be happy now. And for anyone who sees this, spread kindness, smile while you can, and dont allow addictions or etc to hold you back down.
I can tell you that my generation (I'm 40) are forever grateful that we grew up when we did. There was no internet until I was like 12, we had to physically rent the movies we wanted to watch, if a movie or series was on TV we HAD to focus on it because there was no pause button or rewind. And well, no phones. And when we did get phones they were not smart, and could only text or call (and even that was limited due to the cost) and play snake (or make our own ringtones) It was slow, and we had so much time to be bored. I do wish I could have had some of the art and learning content that exists today, but I think it has crossed a line now to be overwhelming. You spend more time researching stuff than actually DOING, because there is so much information to sort trough. It's great that you are aware of this now, and remember that boredom breeds creativity!
@@ElMona I really love the last part of your comment because I've been feeling very uninspired lately and I would have never thought to make the connection between my sudden lack of creativity and no longer allowing myself to be bored for extended periods of time. I really hope I can reverse that this school year.
As a student who tend to have a bad habit of scrolling I liked this video so much, and it made me realize that when I scroll I am just mindlessly not noticing anything but now I wanna to be curious around everything, ask questions, explore the world, and think about life, I really liked this video so much, it made me think and realize how important time is , and how attention span do matter, thank you Amy for sharing these tips, I will try to do them one by one,
I want to be present during my college years, I’m really excited for them and I cannot wait to live life as I truly see fit. - Minimize multitasking - No phone zone - I’ll do it after “x” - Keeping Dynamic Tabs closed - Consuming long-form content
i couldn't agree more ^^ i dont want my college years to be like my friend's older siblings, tiresome and boring, i want them to be bright and fun and thats is what i will work towards. A brighter future :D
Hearing that making long comments was actually a sign that I’m processing information better was extremely encouraging for me. I’ve been doing this more frequently and I hope it continues to benefit me. It’s comforting to hear that the little changes in my life are making a difference, like podcasts, practicing my instruments, and dance practice. I’ve been feeling really good about myself lately and been overthinking less. Sorry if this comment sounds roundabout, I’m a wee bit tired, but I just wanted to say thank you for giving great advice and I can confirm from experience that it works ❤ have a wonderful day everyone!
This might be the 3rd or 4th video of Amy's that I've watched. There were 2 reasons why I clicked on this one: 1. The first video I watched had "I think I agree with this girl, AND ALSO can apply what she shared." 2. "Get your brain back." I really wish I can get back my brain abilities and habits that I had when I was in my teenage years. I watched this on 1x I didn't multitask. This is an impressive video in terms of making people engage voluntarily.
To do things:- 1. Trying not to focus on the unwanted work 2. Stopping multitasking 3.To use the phone like your controlling and not your which controls you 4.Writing down thing to do later to improve attention 5.Being mindful and curious 6.enjoying life's little moments 7.trying to learn things 8.learning to understand concepts instead of just skimming it........... ................................... This is what I have actually learned from this video And thank you.
-paying more attention in lectures/video lectures/textbook reading -spending more quality time with family, my cats, and nature -spending more mental time when i am practicing my instrument or other skills i want to implement “no phone” zones, being curious like a kid, not having dynamic tabs open, consume to absorb-not skim, and to consume long-form content. thank you so much for this video, i love your channel right now as i’m trying to make myself into the best i can be!
i would try my best to apply "no phone zones", "i will do it later" and if possible "consume to absorb" habits in my daily life for a week. i swear this video was so great as it gave some real solutions, it was as if Amy was talking to me with how she actually guessed what i was about to do. i felt validated and listened in this video, while also calling out the problems. i literally feel that i have adhd but belonging to an asian household where these things are only going to be used to taunt the person. i was scared to openly accept this, thanks for this video it made me feel that i can actually fight this thing without anyone's help that seemed impossible for me. every rule was if made for me to improve and have a great life and get my dream college and live with full potential. Thanks Amy, you are like an elder sister for many of us. I hope you a great mental health while your application process. You are a life saver......LUV YAA
This video has encouraged me to comment, I always usually stay hidden in the shadows, read other comments, and go about my day. I feel like I have become such a shell of myself. Media consumes every part of my life, but as you said, the screen is not the problem, I am. As I am the one in control. Its hard at times, as even though I really want to improve myself and my life, I also feel completely hopeless and overwhelmed by the mere thought of starting, I have tried time and time again, succeeded for a while then eventually, I go back into the same cycle of consumption. It seems to be some sort of coping mechanism for me, consuming media, escaping from reality. But my awareness is really starting to kick in heavily recently, it gets to a point that time goes by so fast that you realize there is a stockpile of things that you have always wanted to do but never did, as playing a game, binging a show or even endless scrolling would take priority at the time... these things feel so good in the moment, and help to relieve stress in the moment, but in the long run, they hurt the most. That realization that time is slipping away, you are ageing, you are not where or who you want to be, you are not making time for the people who matter the most, you are not reaching your full potential... that realization hits quite heavy. I will be 25 next year, and although this age seems and is still 'young'?, it feels quite surreal, it has really made me realize how fast time truly flies. The last thing I want is to get to 30 just to realize that i am still doing the same stuff, stuck in the same cycle, there is so much I want for myself, and I need to not allow fear to deter me from facing reality. Thank you for your video, it was very inspiring, I do hope I will get the courage to start making youtube videos myself too ❤
I was diagnosed with a few problems that, while I know do not define me, have caused my attention span to shorten. Along with that, I get this anxious feeling everytime I'm about to do something that requires full concentration. Social media has deteriorated my life to the point where it's the first thing I watch in the morning. I want to gain my life back, I want to have friends, go out, read more, exercise and study without these uncomfortable sensations. Hence, the tips I will apply are: No phone zones and consume to absorb, not to skim.
Engaging with content on a deeper level is a really great point. And, just like skimming books saves time so does watching at double speed. You always have the option to reread & rewatch at a slower pace. It's okay to guard your time. Time is our most precious resource.
To engage effectively and actively, help other members of our community by reading the problems they have and giving YOUR advice! 😃 That way, you will also be smarter and more confident about solving your own problems 😍
Hey Amy! 13yr old boy here. I found you're channel 5 months ago. I watched most of you're videos. You changed My mindset. You made me smarter and i even learned about collages in you're videos. Well Amy, to fix attention spam and focus more and also do the hard things more easily, people can try dopamine detox. Dopamine detox is a very effective way to focus. And instead of trying to focus for 5 hours the day you started try to increase your focus everyday (compound effect) I would love to see you post about some very effective books like deep work, focus, ect. 📖📕💀
@@JackYtDiscord Hi Jack! So happy you're here :) It's amazing you're learning these things at so young. Will add to my list! I have a few videos you'd like already so please check them out!
It's such a blessing to find you UA-cam Channel Amy! I am a girl who's in 9th grade & I've been struggling with overwhelming backlog since this April and I still have the audacity to procrastinate it further and spend more time in distracting myself! Even during my classes in school, I have 0 attention to what ma'am is exactly speaking. I was so over confident for getting good grades that I ended up getting miserable and embarrassing marks 😖😖 Thanks for this video, I didn't knew I need this so much :) 🩷✨
This summer vacation I just reflected on the things that I've done on the past school days and I noticed that I procrastinated a lot of times, when I got notifications from group chats or even posts as you said I immediately went on it and click, and I suffered a lot from not doing the most important thing that should be done. I will just like cram until midnight ,its so frustrating actually. Not until I found this vid (and channel actually) that really help me to grow more and focus more on attaining good habits that will be very beneficial for me in a long term. Thank you, Amy! You're such a great help.
I can relate to what @@autumnniiice-wj8yz is saying. Sometimes it's like no matter how I try to focus, I still can't pay 100% attention and it's affecting my grades. Though I'm still working on myself but I can't wait to find a lasting solution to this attention thing. Amy do you have any tips
This video has literally opened my eyes. Firstly, the email and notifications tip at the beginning is actually so helpful, whenever I’m in a class or doing a course the thing generally on my mind is whether I’m going to receive emails or not and if I should read them. As a person who struggle a lot with overthinking and anxiety it can be really helpful when videos like these come up because I Belive the short attention span I’ve developed may be the route to literally all of my thinking problems. The no-phone zones rule is so disciplining for me, and the “I’ll do it later” idea is very accurate in making you focus entirely on the situation you’re dealing with. The biggest thing I found though was that point about reading books, as usually I read a couple chapter and then just skip to the last page. And I’m pretty this is one of the greatest causes of my awfuk attention span . Thank you so much for this ❤
my adhd self is thanking you Amy . ever since i join this chanel i have been improving . Honestly my attention span is really short i find myself doing my things in class instead of listening to the teacher, yh funny thing is i feel guilt every time i dont focus especially in class. anyways Amy i love you .
I personally try to find something i can do while listening to the teacher to focus on the lecture/lesson. Im not diagnosed with adhd, but that's my parents fault, im more on the inattentive side, so i find it very useful to doodle, take notes (i have a specific note taking method) and if u can record (im now in uni, so i do), you could listen to recordings in 2x!
As the older sibling who feels burdened by everyone around and still trying to get in THE way of living i want.. Thank you Amy you are literally the older sister i never had.. Thankk you sooo muchhhhh
I remember when I was little they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up? And although I said one or another career, I really always imagined myself simply living, Enjoying nature and myself. So that's why I wanna be present today!
It's amazing to me how much this content applies to me at 30 years old. I have a legitimate phone addiction and have already decreased my screen usage greatly just by putting a goal of 3hrs (still a long time, and I don't always stick to it), turning off notifications to what I find most distracting (messenger and youtube) and I've stopped consuming content for the most part, just for the sake of it. I have adhd, so I have an interest based learning system. Psychology has been something that has always fascinated me, so the fact you relate this topic to not only just attention span, but psychological fact is absolutely incredible to me. My reason for doing this is so I can improve my working memory back to how it was prior to my phone addiction and get the control back in my own head and over my own life. It's amazing how much you can learn from the younger generations (since knowledge is not age restricted). I appreciate you! Keep doing you!!!❤
I love how practical all this advice is and I love how you point out the flaws in the generic advice that no one really wants to do because they’re too vague or difficult to just jump into. But these are little everyday things that mainly have to do with your mindset so it’s really helpful, thank you!
I really like the advice in this video. When I go on my phone during long car rides, it makes me feel lazy, it doesn’t make me feel any better about myself. Looking out the window or reading books during car rides makes me feel better. In fact, looking out the window, as said in the video, makes me think about life, and makes me have philosophical thoughts. One thing I’ve also started doing, that was said in the video is writing things down. Usually I go on my phone and write down things in my notes app, but as this coming school year is getting closer and closer, I think I will try to start writing things down. I have a small, spiral notebook that has a wood-like design on the front. I got it at a birthday party when I was younger, and I think I will start using that notebook instead of using my notes app. Using my notes app as a to-do list makes me feel enticed to go on TikTok, Snapchat, or UA-cam. I’m not allowed to have Facebook, Twitter, etc. Although I have restrictions, I agree with those rules as it helps me not be as “chronically” online. I have asked my parents to set screen time limits for my social media: TikTok at 30 minutes, UA-cam at 30 minutes as well, and Snapchat at 20 minutes. Although the only reason I use Snapchat is to maintain “Snapstreaks” with people and quickly look at peoples’ stories I know to keep up with them, I think this is harmful because sometimes I spend too much time on Snapchat, looking at peoples’ profiles, and I use it too long, so I set a time limit on it. I think Snapchat is kind of addictive so I may even ask for my parents to set a 15-minute limit on the application. TikTok, the most addicting of all. TikTok is the app that parents, schools, and elders hate. The most hated, unappreciated app. Said to lower attention spans. I think that is very right. If you give a child TikTok, they will start to use their time inefficiently, especially if you don’t set any limits on the content they view and take in. It is very hard to limit on content they see, and they can become very lazy and have “brainrot” humor. I suggest to not get on TikTok at a young age like I did, and that’s why I’ve started to set restrictions for myself. UA-cam is less bad for you, although UA-cam shorts is an entirely different story. UA-cam shorts take TikTok, and makes it worse, with more “brainrot” content. I don’t know why UA-cam ever developed UA-cam shorts, other than to get money, because it is horrible for young children. Luckily, I never was an avid UA-cam shorts user. UA-cam itself, however, is not that bad, as long as you set limits and don’t watch crappy videos for hours on end. The only place I don’t have a UA-cam screen time on is my computer. That is because I use youtube to help me better understand the subject matter I learn in school. As I’ve said, I suggest making limits on all your social media. I actually deleted UA-cam off my phone and TikTok of my iPad to encourage less use of the apps. Snapchat I have on both my iPad and phone just in case I can’t find or use my phone and I need to continue my Snapstreaks. However, the screen time limits still work for both those devices. I still have the same restrictions across my devices, other than my laptop, but I only use my laptop for school. I’ve decided that I’m going to try to go to bed earlier, around 8pm, unless I’m up studying. However, when I’m studying, I will give my phone to my mom and not let her give it to me unless I’m done. Thank you for this incredible video, Amy!!
I admire your decision and courage to make things right. Not many kids(i am assuming your age, sorry if wrong) can achieve such critical thinking and the capacity only of putting time limits alone is incredible. I'm sure that you will do great things in the future and keep up the good work!
I read the whole comment 😭. You have a very mature mindset , keep up with this and work towards all your dreams and goal...let it all happen in your favour..keep going ❤️
I took your challenge and flipped my phone over, turned the volume up, and have you full screen and just from that alone I realized how insanely over stimulated I am from my habits. I actually took notes that's how much you reeled me in. Thanks for making this I'm going to try your advice out moving forward!
I suffer from a hindered attention span like most of my peers. This video really opened my eyes and showed me how deep this problem really is for me. I go to college in about to months and have been binging ways to try and improve myself before then. And this has been one of the more significant videos I've seen. Some of these I do already so I'm not as bad as I though either. Thank you Amy wang!
"some people when the're playing are thinking about work and when they are working, they think about play" I just loved that, thank you so much for this video, my vacation is ending and I really want to be a different person, a better person when I comeback to school
Amy you are literally saving my life omg Here are the tips i can remember 1- be fully invested in what you are doing 2- minimise multitasking 3- have no phone zones and times 4- try to consume more long form content rather than short form content 5- read more and listen to more podcasts Dose my fav 5 and ima try to implement them into my daily life as much as possible from now on.😻
Hi! Love it. I've read Amy's comment that we should give each other our own tips, so about no phone zones, I recommend putting little paper sheets with 'phones forbidden' written on them, for example, in the bathroom, so it reminds you to actually get rid of them. Good luck! I will also try to put these habits into my life.
The fact that you mentioned achieving all that you did with a disability has really helped me today. Im going to be starting college in september and im waiting on an epilepsy diagnosis. Seizures are really taking their toll on me but the fear of brain fog from medications is scaring me so much for the future. I really hope i manage to achieve even half of what youve done ❤
Glad to say I watched the video full screen 1x speed. Then I went to the store and my amazing attention span helped me notice someone shoving a whole bunch of items in a suitcase and then walking out the door without paying. This video really helped me appreciate the smaller things in life.
In the past few months, I can feel how my short attention span has made my life worse. I feel the need to constantly be stimulated but, in giving in to that feeling, I feel less stimulated than ever. Everything is surface level - and it’s true, it takes all of the beauty out of life’s little moments. Thank you so much for making this video, I think it’s the wake up call I needed. I’m going to be using the ‘No phone zones’ rule and the ‘I’ll do it after X’ rule 💛
This video made me realize how I am never deeply focusing on something. I’m always thinking about what’s next and never take time to simply absorb what I’m doing. Thanks to your tips, I will now try to stop living my life as a to-do list and start really live in the present. Whoever is reading that comment, don’t forget that it take time to heal, don’t be hard with yourself if you don’t immediately see changes
This video is a genuine life saver! I am so used to watching shorts that I could barely watch a video for over 10 minutes! This video has been a big help and I feel so much better knowing I can finally experience life to its fullest.
This is actually some awesome advice, thank you so much! One thing I have to say is, that when I tell people I enjoy reading fanfiction on ao3, they immediately laugh and think that I read smut and some time consuming stuff, but I have found more than 50 very well written ones that have helped me fix my attention span sooo much. I've only realised that now while you were talking and giving your adivce
I don't want to miss out on studying to my full potential, and I'll try my best to pay full attention to it I'm going to adopt following habits ; Minimize multitasking Say I'll do it after [x] Consume log form content Consume to absorb not to skim Automate work / school mode on phone
I cannot fathom how much my mind has deteriorated, as a person with ADHD I was constantly going back on my phone, making changes to my routine AS you said it, yet I should've fully absorbed the information and did it after this video. I was thinking about "Wow! Maybe I'll get better listening to her podcast!" or anything else unrelated to this video and it was hard to concentrate. I was even so bored because I had to watch on normal speed that I even wanted to do my school work or watch another video while watching this one. Even if I stared at the screen I kept zoning kept zoning out and it's been one of the most hardest things in my life. God, I'm even typing this and I haven't finish the whole video yet!
All of the tips on how to improve my attention span and if I do them already (this video showed me I actually have a pretty good attention span already, but I could definitely change something’s for the better) 1. No dynamic tabs - I don’t have them open, but if I see the little red dot I’ll open the app, quickly read through the messages/emails, and get back to whatever I was doing 2. Minimize Multitasking - Honestly idk, I like to have a UA-cam video playing in the background while I draw but idk if thats really that bad, I just like listening to someone’s voice while drawing, though I am guilty to reading comments while a video is playing, trying to get better about that 3. No phone zones - This. Is. Such. A. Great. Idea. I get so distracted while doing homework if my phone is nearby, definitely will be doing this! 4. I’ll do it after [x] - No, but also a great idea. Just writing plans down is a good idea, gonna have to find a notebook to use though 5. School hours on school - No, but something I should do, like I said, my phone easily distracts me, so I should mute my notifications 6. Be curious like a kid - Still… kinda am a kid? I’m in 8th grade idk if that’s what you’d call a kid but I do look at my surroundings, but there has to be something in the background like a podcast or music, I guess I just find comfort in a humans voice 7. Consume longer content - Yess I love long form videos much more than shorts or TikTok, I’m on and off on podcasts but books… I LOVE BOOKS! I’d be reading them all the time but sometimes the books I want aren’t out yet or there just nothing I can or want to read (I love fantasy) 8. Consume to absorb, not skim - When I DO scroll on shorts or TikTok I usually don’t skim to much, probably cus a lot of the things I watch are informational or cute little dogs, cats, horses, and sort of animal So I’d say my attention span is pretty good! I really want to try some of these tips cause I feel like they will really benefit me
literally. as hard as trying to gain your attention span might feel, its so worth it. i would happily give up on my phone entirely just for deeper amount of self satisfaction and joy received in having done something you wanted to.
The ones that hit me the hardest was when you said “No phone zones” and “Minimize multitasking” The no phones zone is really important because I have gotten into a really bad habit of just pulling my phone out, not to do anything, but to simply look like I’m doing something to avoid conversation. Or to just look less awkward. But in doing so it makes me feel more awkward and uncomfortable. Such as during lunch, I will pull it out and start doing doulingo to avoid conversation and to avoid noticing those who look at me. And it just makes me feel helpless Regarding the multitasking, in my family, multitasking was considered to be cool or atleast something that smart people did. I always multitasked in a ton of things. But as I got older I started more and more multitasking. But the more I did the more overwhelmed I got. People say that it will help you save time and make you smarter bc your doing multiple things at once, but my ability to focus is completely horrible. I can’t process what I hear in an audible, and often when people talk I have to ask them to repeat themselves because I couldn’t process what they said. I’m not quite sure the full reason why. Thank you for this video! I will do my best to follow these tips to the best of my ability. I truly want to better myself.
I want to be fully present when I am studying, at work and when I'm exercising. I want to be fully present around friends, loved ones, colleagues and clients.
I really liked this whole video, but what I think hit me the most was the reminder that I am in control of how I respond to stimuli. That I can take away some of my biggest distractions, as I have done recently, and that can help me stay on task AND show me how often I stray from it, but if I'm not commited to focusing, I will always find new distractions. I want to be commited. I've always wanted to be someone who can be good at taking care of and enjoying themselves, but also working and studying, and I've always had difficulty getting there, but the most immediate goal now is effective studying as I have an opportunity that won't present itself again in some time, and an unusual amount of free time. I feel like your tips will really help me get back the attention span I used to have, to actually feel present again.
Not me listening to the whole video thinking I'll take brain-notes and literally forgetting everything she said just half way through the video. And now i've started watching the whole video from the very beginning again 😭
What i do is i always try to force myself to remember the major point like tip no1, no2, no3 etc...and try to recall it throughout the video. If i find myself not able to recall them, that means i wasn't fully focused when watching the video and i would rewind it back to where i missed and rewatch that part.
@@MagnificentAdebolaThat’s so true! I’ve recently started keeping track (on a journal) of everything I think I should remember no matter how simple it is and it’s helped me focus more on one thing at a time 🙏
I was studying and watching some youtube videos about the test that defines my future, and this came across my fyp, I clicked on it and left so I can watch it after the videos finish, I’m on a break now and I watched this video fully, no 2x speed, no comments, not even using my split screen, it was hard. But I did it, and I’m so proud of myself. Because my attention span is so bad even when I text others, I go and watch a video and come back, and it annoys me and my friends. So I started to make a rule which is “if it’s not a situation your phone is involved, don’t involve it” which is one of the habits you mentioned, I don’t eat with my Ipad, even if I’m alone, I never go to the bathroom because I’m disgusted by the slightest of things so I don’t want my device to touch that, and when I go out, I only listen to music. And then look at the window and daydream. My poor attention span is a cause of ADHD. I was always a person with a bad attention span. But now I realise, just how much I miss out. I’ve been trying to watch very long videos on 1x lately. And I can actually watch more now, I increased my attention span. But it’s still poor, I have a whole lot more to go. Thank you so much for this video. I appreciate it.
Your comment is very inspiring :) I hope I can do the same as someone who struggles with keeping a billion tabs open and switching between them frequently. I also frequently listen to music while going out but I feel like that feeds into my constantly being distracted and not living in the moment.
@@Pie-bb6wt I am glad my comment is inspiring! The reason I listen to music during going out is because no one really ever talks (I only listen on car rides otherwise I don’t listen to music unless alone) and I use that time to think about life in general, it built an amazing mindset in my opinion !! It also makes me more connected to myself
"I really enjoy your video. I want to increase my attention span. I already practice going in the car or on the bus without my phone, and I prefer to observe people and the landscape. But there’s so much more that I want to do, and I know I can. I'm going to start listening to your podcast! Thank you so much for making videos for the good of others; I really appreciate it.
I need to fix it. Figured out that my attention span is like shit when the video was playing and I was thinking about other things like "What will I eat for dinner?". It's hard. I wanna change myself, i want my high version. Thank you for your channel.
i just realized that literally everything i do in my life are MY OWN CHOICE, and not everyone/everything else’s fault. That was quite a lot. But important. Thank you💕 (kisses from Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷)
I want to be present for every moment in my life, for the things that I used to enjoy, so I can get my joy and passion back. I do a lot of these already, but there's a few that I struggle with. I skim A LOT. I used to love reading, but recently I have been skimming books, and it's not enjoyable at all. I practically read just to finish the book now. I also get on my phone a lot instead of being aware/daydreaming. I used to daydream a lot, and now I rarely daydream, and it's affecting my creativity. When I do daydream now, it's not as in depth. These are the two habits I really want to focus on. Thank you for this video!
I used to write notes of what I needed to do in a little notebook, because I knew I was scatter-brained enough to forget things if I didn't write them down. Once I got a "smart"phone, it was "easier" to write notes on my 'phone than pull out a pen and pad, but the flipside of this was that I could become distracted a lot quicker. My goals from your tips: "I will do >thing< once I finish X" and "be present". The comment about avoiding boredom is something I've personally become aware of in the last few months, and these two tips in particular will help. Thank you, Amy! You've earned another subscriber!
For me, I would try to improve these of the following: 1. Minimise Multitasking 2. I will do it after [x] 3. Reduce short-form content 4. Only watch necessary or related topics (while taking a break or before studying)
As a middle-school student, I'd watched this video to help fix my attention span since school was starting the following week and I wanted to prepare myself to study for long hours while being fully focused. Now, I realize my attention span is not just important when I study or do something long and unentertaining. Furthermore, it is necessary for me to truly live the way I have always desired to, have abundant life, and be present in the moment. During times when I want to cry, I can't because I am too spaced out to be fully in the moment. When I want to reflect deeply on something, I can never do so without distracting myself with things of little value to me. Until now, I hadn't realized that this isn't something I have to struggle with. It is something I created and can pull myself out of if I am diligent enough. Thank you so much for helping me realize this. I have been watching your videos for a while, and they have all been very beneficial to me. I am excited to listen to your podcast in the future!
Hey Amy, I just executed this method "I'll do it after [x]". My problem: While working, I used to get distracted with my own thoughts or less important work which used to get into my mind. So, Instead of procrastinating my important work, this time, I procrastinated my thoughts by writing it down on blank paper. The moment I did so, my brain became empty and was able to focus on my current task efficiently. Thanx Amy for your valuable video. It's literally working. Love from India ❤You are osm. A request: Can you make a video on communication skill - How to speak clearly and articulately?
Wow I can't believe that I have finished a 15:51 video without 2x speed or skipping😂 Thank you for sharing your knowledge and also for being able to deliver it well. I think 2 things that I will start doing this week is 1. Minimizing multitasking and 2. No phone zone especially on the toilet!
Next year I'm suppose to go to med school. The thing that really stress me out is my unability to focus for too long, and I'm so happy everytime I see one of your video, cause it make it look easier to be productive, focus and all, the tips you give are actually helpfull and not some random advices that no one can put in practice. So thank you :)
12:56 i think i have got 2 and 7 mostly figured so i will be striving for 3 4 and 6, i have noticed their importance before and if i remember this ill come back to take notes on my evolution
I am a 9th grader and I was ruining my schedule and brain power because of my social media addiction. I dont have an instagram and i love books (i have a home library) but my time was still getting wasted. I saw this when i lost hope for improvement but watching this without skipping or 2x speed and processing each word you said SUCCESSFULLY has encouraged me to work upon myself. Since i watched this, i participated in a science exhibition and i read 'Atomic Habits' and aced my test.
perfect timing my teacher scolded me very badly twice because i didnt focus in class i just cant stop daydreaming and singing and dancing in ind while class your a lifesaver
@@umakannan1330 this is 2 weeks late but hope thats working out for you! Just a reminder dont push yourself too hard if it doesn't work out immediately. Heres a virtual hug, take care 🫂💛
thank you, amy. this is my first video i've ever seen by you and you caught me at the perfect time. i've noticed i've been scrolling more and more and more lately, and because of executive dysfunction with my adhd I really have just felt like a helpless pawn and completely felt like I lost control over my life. i also got my first job recently, about 3-4 months ago, so when I'm at home my main excuse is "ohh I'm so tired I'll of my laundry/clean my room/exercise/eat healthy/learn tomorrow, for now I'll just scroll" and it has been actually destroying me a little bit. i posted a video on here a few months ago, and since then I have tried to record 5 videos, multiple hours worth of content, and for one reason or another none of it has made it onto my channel, sometimes it is legitimate problems, but other times? i am just flat out lazy and procrastinated so much that I just deleted the video and gave up. while watching this video, I was crocheting, so I wasn't completely 100% focused in but maybe I can blame that on neurodiversity and using crochet to fidget while I do things LMAO, but while I was watching I finally set a screen time limit on my phone. i know it's a small step, but I'm finally going to take control of my life. on my payday this week I'm gonna get a gym membership, and I'm going to actually try and take care of myself and take back my life. you really truly have no idea the amazing things you're doing amy, you're changing hundreds of lives for the better, so you're basically changing the world
My attention span has gotten so worse that it scares me. I want to be better but I get distracted everytime! I hope that this time I can fix it. Thanks for the video Amy!! 💜
I really needed this video little did I know. I noticed a few months ago how my attention span has been sooo short lately honestly ever since I was like 18 years old and I’m 22 now. It’s been so hard for me to focus which has also made it hard for me to focus on things that I ACTUALLY want to focus on. And then it begins to discourage me. So I thank you for this and also for making me feel “normal” for having a short attention span but also knowing that I am in control of it as well :)
The tip of listening to podcasts and doing something at the same time is really helpful for me because everytime in class i cant focus while writing notes and listening to the teacher at the same time. That really helps, thankyou ❤️
I realized that my attention span can get worse, when I don’t care about the task at hand enough. And one more reason is when I feel unwell or anxious about something. I do not want to say that we should always do things that entertain us, but rather being curious about what we are doing at the moment. And for it to happen we need to understand the “why?”, the core reason we want to do it. Mind is a powerful tool for us to achieve our goals, and we are masters of our own mind. I can’t now remember the exact words, but there was a quote: “Master your mind first, or else it will master you”. For me, attention comes fully from being in a “Flow” state. I stop caring about everything around when I zoom in to that state. Thank you 🙏🏻
hi amy! this is actually the first video of yours I’ve watched and i really enjoyed it. i’m starting my senior year of high school next week. like most people i’ve haven’t been excited but i’ve additionally faced extreme stress on if i’m going to be able to exceed to my expectations. i dropped out for a year and now i’m starting back taking the most difficult courses in HS. i’ve been trying to find ways to ease my stress and new ideas to excel personally. i’ve been building habits like reading and stretching everyday, to build routines. the habits you’ve mentioned are very important and am going to take them to mind. be curious like a kid is my favourite, while taking public transport i’ve been starting to either read or simply let myself be in my own mind to examine the world around me. i have a bad habit of pushing myself too much for a week and then falling right back to my poor routines. so i’m trying my best to take it slow! my recommendation for anyone is to start slow with even reading 2 pages or doing 2 stretch’s a day. routine is everything! p.s. going to watch more videos and subscribed

Hai, this ain’t my main acc but eh idc
So I’m fairly young (under 13) and my mom is planning to start a gym membership for me (I didn’t ask for it) and well I decided “well if ima make my physical health better might as well make my mental health as it was when I was younger” so I watched this and I somehow managed to not scroll or click off and the only times I got distracted was when I was checking out ur house and I got a health notification so I checked it so id say I’m doing well, now ofc I still didnt make any progress cuz it’s been 10 mins… but another way I think could help is less shortening of words (slang) and writing and going for walks could also help, ima go set up the focus and turn off notifications now, this is one of the only ones that ACTUALLY help and aren’t just torture and “self discipline”
Thank you.

the most important thing that i don't wanna miss out on is me being young and realizing that every day will be the youngest I'll ever be. i agree with you when you said that we should be curious like a kid because doing it will make us "present" in the moment; not thinking of anything else and just living the moment.
I can add some ADHD tips:
4. Set timers and challenge yourself to do the task in that time
I love you for this
OMGG THABK YOUUU
Don’t have ADHD but this would help for me aswell
Over time the pain discourages you at least from thinking about that particular daydream, even if it can't stop it altogether.
that two is just what i do when studying and taking notes, i am a very visual person, so, colors, stickers, subtitles, and post its help so much
After I deleted all of my other social medias, I started to notice that I not only used UA-cam much more, the way I used it also changed.

I wish everybody a nice day and stay healthy ❤❤
your still a child bro
You're a very sweet person. Just a reminder to you and anyone else reading; that conventional schooling covers a very narrow range of appliable intelligence. So if someone doesn't do well in school, sometimes it's because they're born to do well in areas not yet taught in school.
... are you me of another universe ??
@@blue_1000 they are a literal teenager.
im in the exact same position. it often gets stressful but i am devoted reaching my goals and trying hard.

Same. We got this 🫶
Your last shot at this? And if you feel you failed, again?
What then? You're going to give up?
How old are you?
Remember this core thing. Very important to keep yourself going in live.
You will never fail until you stop trying.
Those who failed are those who gave up.
Do NOT give up and you will succeed eventually.
You can do this.
Maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow but there will come a day when you can but you'll never know if you give up.
How's it going now?
My last shot too
You are always one try away from success. As long as you keep trying, you will statistically succeed.
thank you for making this video and using a clean, down-to-earth approach without making harsh judgment (which is needed in a few cases) 💞 I've been meaning to tackle the issue of lower attention span because it's constantly eating my time away, leaving me with zero ways of improving my everyday routine without getting stuck in a endless loop.
Honestly, the idea of achieving 8 goals to gain control is awesome and it makes it easier to follow through considering it minimize (in a way) the thought process and actually put the weight of the responsibility on our capacity of making decision in a conscious way.
1. Don't have dynamic tabs open
2. Minimize multitasking
3. No phone zones
4. Say "I'Il do it after [x]"
5. Automate work / school mode hours on phone
6. Be curious like a kid
7. Consume long-form content
You need to rest. Your attention is a limited resource.
@@aanonimo1838my answer to that is: I'm a med student. (ik you're right but my uni wants us to be able to be in more places at the same time)
Step 1: Don't watch comments while watching the vid
oh...

oh....
sorry but I'm already done watching it :p
Oh..
it's funny because this video randomly popped up on my feed and before clicking on it, i told myself "you have the opportunity to decide... you can watch a burger mukbang and waste 17 minutes of your life, or maybe get something out of it". before it was even mentioned, i dared myself to watch the whole video on 1x speed and no distractions.
it made me so sad hearing you talk about how you can start missing out on major events of your life by not being fully present bc just this year i realized how little i remembered from big life events that happened this year (graduating, finishing my internship, traveling, etc.), so one of the reasons why i want to work on my attention span is to be fully present during my upcoming trips this year!
tysm for this video
This is really beautiful 💙
wow... you just made me realise that i have the exact same problem. i've always attributed me not remembering things as "memory getting worse" and i often miss the times when I was younger because my memory was so much better. but maybe the issue wasn't my memory getting worse, it was my attention span declining. if i had been fully present when studying or doing things, life may not have felt like it just flew by--- seriously wow, who knew that a tip to improving your 'memory' is to improve your attention span... i have to try it out now
What the fuck is in mukbang that makes everyone watches it, I personally don't get it hence I hate it.
And for anyone who sees this, spread kindness, smile
while you can, and dont allow addictions or etc to hold you back down.
"What do you want to be fully present for" has to be the most deepest sentence I've heard in this video. Longer attention spans are superior!!! 💪
"You're in the driver's seat. Start acting like it." Merciless, and perfect.

Completely outta topic from my part, but hello fellow BSD fan! Nice to see you! :D
Thank you ! This video is extremely usefully especially during summer break
This might be the 3rd or 4th video of Amy's that I've watched.
There were 2 reasons why I clicked on this one:
1. The first video I watched had "I think I agree with this girl, AND ALSO can apply what she shared."
2. "Get your brain back." I really wish I can get back my brain abilities and habits that I had when I was in my teenage years.
I watched this on 1x

This is an impressive video in terms of making people engage voluntarily.
I recommend Stephanie Soo, she is so good at keeping you engaged and i’ve never gotten bored from listening to her talk even if it’s for an hour.

To do things:-
1. Trying not to focus on the unwanted work
2. Stopping multitasking
3.To use the phone like your controlling and not your which controls you
4.Writing down thing to do later to improve attention
5.Being mindful and curious
6.enjoying life's little moments
7.trying to learn things
8.learning to understand concepts instead of just skimming it...........
...................................
This is what I have actually learned from this video
And thank you.
-paying more attention in lectures/video lectures/textbook reading
-spending more quality time with family, my cats, and nature
-spending more mental time when i am practicing my instrument or other skills

i would try my best to apply "no phone zones", "i will do it later" and if possible "consume to absorb" habits in my daily life for a week. i swear this video was so great as it gave some real solutions, it was as if Amy was talking to me with how she actually guessed what i was about to do. i felt validated and listened in this video, while also calling out the problems. i literally feel that i have adhd but belonging to an asian household where these things are only going to be used to taunt the person. i was scared to openly accept this, thanks for this video it made me feel that i can actually fight this thing without anyone's help that seemed impossible for me. every rule was if made for me to improve and have a great life and get my dream college and live with full potential.

Great job ❤ keep going :)

I remember when I was little they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up? And although I said one or another career, I really always imagined myself simply living, Enjoying nature and myself. So that's why I wanna be present today!
I'm the type of person who watches videos but doesn't comment, but I want to start connecting more, so, here I am.
That’s beautiful! I love enjoying nature too
It's amazing to me how much this content applies to me at 30 years old. Keep doing you!!!❤
That's awesome to hear! You've got this! :)

Here are the tips i can remember
1- be fully invested in what you are doing
2- minimise multitasking
3- have no phone zones and times
4- try to consume more long form content rather than short form content
5- read more and listen to more podcasts

Hi!
You got this good luck in college

I'm going to adopt following habits ;
Minimize multitasking
Say I'll do it after [x]
Consume log form content
Consume to absorb not to skim
Automate work / school mode on phone
All of the tips on how to improve my attention span and if I do them already (this video showed me I actually have a pretty good attention span already, but I could definitely change something’s for the better)
1. No dynamic tabs - I don’t have them open, but if I see the little red dot I’ll open the app, quickly read through the messages/emails, and get back to whatever I was doing
2. Minimize Multitasking - Honestly idk, I like to have a UA-cam video playing in the background while I draw but idk if thats really that bad, I just like listening to someone’s voice while drawing, though I am guilty to reading comments while a video is playing, trying to get better about that
3. No phone zones - This. Is. Such. A. Great. Idea. I get so distracted while doing homework if my phone is nearby, definitely will be doing this!
4. I’ll do it after [x] - No, but also a great idea. Just writing plans down is a good idea, gonna have to find a notebook to use though
5. School hours on school - No, but something I should do, like I said, my phone easily distracts me, so I should mute my notifications
6. Be curious like a kid - Still… kinda am a kid? I’m in 8th grade idk if that’s what you’d call a kid but I do look at my surroundings, but there has to be something in the background like a podcast or music, I guess I just find comfort in a humans voice
7. Consume longer content - Yess I love long form videos much more than shorts or TikTok, I’m on and off on podcasts but books… I LOVE BOOKS! I’d be reading them all the time but sometimes the books I want aren’t out yet or there just nothing I can or want to read (I love fantasy)
8. Consume to absorb, not skim - When I DO scroll on shorts or TikTok I usually don’t skim to much, probably cus a lot of the things I watch are informational or cute little dogs, cats, horses, and sort of animal
So I’d say my attention span is pretty good! I really want to try some of these tips cause I feel like they will really benefit me
literally. as hard as trying to gain your attention span might feel, its so worth it. i would happily give up on my phone entirely just for deeper amount of self satisfaction and joy received in having done something you wanted to.
The ones that hit me the hardest was when you said “No phone zones” and “Minimize multitasking”
The no phones zone is really important because I have gotten into a really bad habit of just pulling my phone out, not to do anything, but to simply look like I’m doing something to avoid conversation. Or to just look less awkward. But in doing so it makes me feel more awkward and uncomfortable. Such as during lunch, I will pull it out and start doing doulingo to avoid conversation and to avoid noticing those who look at me. And it just makes me feel helpless
Regarding the multitasking, in my family, multitasking was considered to be cool or atleast something that smart people did.
It's better to keep a journal. Just jot down as you're watching, you will always get back to it.
Write down the goals you are going to focus on so you don't get overwhelmed too
What i do is i always try to force myself to remember the major point like tip no1, no2, no3 etc...and try to recall it throughout the video. If i find myself not able to recall them, that means i wasn't fully focused when watching the video and i would rewind it back to where i missed and rewatch that part.
@@MagnificentAdebolaThat’s so true! I’ve recently started keeping track (on a journal) of everything I think I should remember no matter how simple it is and it’s helped me focus more on one thing at a time 🙏
Thank you
I was studying and watching some youtube videos about the test that defines my future, and this came across my fyp, I clicked on it and
left so I can watch it after the videos finish, I’m on a break now and I watched this video fully, no 2x speed, no comments, not even using my split screen, it was hard. I appreciate it.
how are you doing now
@@dinariddle1696 I am doing better than ever! Thank you for asking !
4:25 me watching it while sitting in the toilet 🤡
Thank you💕
(kisses from Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷)
For me, I would try to improve these of the following:
1. Minimise Multitasking
2. I will do it after [x]
3. Reduce short-form content
You're a very eloquent middle school student - good luck with the upcoming school year!
As a hs junior, I can say you are much better for realizing this so early! I really wish I had this kind of advice as a middle schooler.
1:22 This video about becoming more focused is only for those who are focused on becoming more focused, otherwise this video isn't for you.
Hey Amy,
I just executed this method "I'll do it after [x]".
Glad it was helpful!
0:32 I got read like a book
Next year I'm suppose to go to med school. The thing that really stress me out is my unability to focus for too long, and I'm so happy everytime I see one of your video, cause it make it look easier to be productive, focus and all, the tips you give are actually helpfull and not some random advices that no one can put in practice. So thank you :)
I'm so excited for new podcast episodes! I love your earings btw, they are so cute! You're killing it!
12:56 i think i have got 2 and 7 mostly figured so i will be striving for 3 4 and 6, i have noticed their importance before and if i remember this ill come back to take notes on my evolution
Yo a reminder how u been doing (i ve just watched the video so i just got started)
3:40 She caught me off guard 💀
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Me too😂😂
I am a 9th grader and I was ruining my schedule and brain power because of my social media addiction.
Ah it's ok - you can do it!
@@wamyy5 thank you soo much i am taking an oath today to quit daydreaming in school
Wait, question, (genuine, not accusing) you get up and dance in class?
@@histiredi’m curious too😅
@@umakannan1330 this is 2 weeks late but hope thats working out for you! Just a reminder dont push yourself too hard if it doesn't work out immediately. Mistakes are practically inevitable and if you push yourself too harshly you'll just end up 2 steps back and burnt out , slow progress is progress better then not making any progress at all. Heres a virtual hug, take care 🫂💛
thank you, amy. this is my first video i've ever seen by you and you caught me at the perfect time. i've noticed i've been scrolling more and more and more lately, and because of executive dysfunction with my adhd I really have just felt like a helpless pawn and completely felt like I lost control over my life. i also got my first job recently, about 3-4 months ago, so when I'm at home my main excuse is "ohh I'm so tired I'll of my laundry/clean my room/exercise/eat healthy/learn tomorrow, for now I'll just scroll" and it has been actually destroying me a little bit. i posted a video on here a few months ago, and since then I have tried to record 5 videos, multiple hours worth of content, and for one reason or another none of it has made it onto my channel, sometimes it is legitimate problems, but other times? i am just flat out lazy and procrastinated so much that I just deleted the video and gave up. while watching this video, I was crocheting, so I wasn't completely 100% focused in but maybe I can blame that on neurodiversity and using crochet to fidget while I do things LMAO, but while I was watching I finally set a screen time limit on my phone. i know it's a small step, but I'm finally going to take control of my life. on my payday this week I'm gonna get a gym membership, and I'm going to actually try and take care of myself and take back my life. you really truly have no idea the amazing things you're doing amy, you're changing hundreds of lives for the better, so you're basically changing the world
actively writing the script to my next video, thank you
Don’t think negatively, I’m sure you will do amazing that little steps are the most important things!
My attention span has gotten so worse that it scares me. I want to be better but I get distracted everytime!
I hope that this time I can fix it.
Thanks for the video Amy!! 💜
You got this! 💜💜💜
So I thank you for this and also for making me feel “normal” for having a short attention span but also knowing that I am in control of it as well :)
i want to be present for the things that inspire me
Thank u so much Amy as a person with ADHD I am struggling to study❤
You can do it ♥
The tip of listening to podcasts and doing something at the same time is really helpful for me because everytime in class i cant focus while writing notes and listening to the teacher at the same time. That really helps, thankyou ❤️
Yes!! I love how you put that - exactly what I’m trying to say because listening skills are so valuable!
But isn't it also multitasking?
@@Nile081 as explained in the video, you want to not mix tasks that require the same brain power - for example, two things that use words.
@@wamyy5 ah okay thank you so much for replying to me 😭❤
I realized that my attention span can get worse, when I don’t care about the task at hand enough.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Wamy really I'm following your tips and you can't believe me they are really helpful ❤️🔥 Keep supporting you as always 😇✨
hi amy! this is actually the first video of yours I’ve watched and i really enjoyed it. i’m starting my senior year of high school next week. like most people i’ve haven’t been excited but i’ve additionally faced extreme stress on if i’m going to be able to exceed to my expectations. i dropped out for a year and now i’m starting back taking the most difficult courses in HS. i’ve been trying to find ways to ease my stress and new ideas to excel personally.
i’ve been building habits like reading and stretching everyday, to build routines. the habits you’ve mentioned are very important and am going to take them to mind. be curious like a kid is my favourite, while taking public transport i’ve been starting to either read or simply let myself be in my own mind to examine the world around me. i have a bad habit of pushing myself too much for a week and then falling right back to my poor routines. so i’m trying my best to take it slow! my recommendation for anyone is to start slow with even reading 2 pages or doing 2 stretch’s a day. routine is everything!
p.s. going to watch more videos and subscribed
Good luck!I'm starting my senior year next week too!
Ahhh I'm proud of you for challenging yourself and being brave! With your determination and positive attitude and good habits, you will do awesome
