    Hey Anthony and viewers,
Another great video. Thanks for the advice. Just wanted to share my journey with the 1KD codes, maybe will help others and maybe others can help me. Here we go
    - Hilux 2005 3.0l SR5 TD (this is not a hilux hospital! 😂) mechanically, unmodified all standard all genuine Toyota parts used.
    - codes: P0098, P0108, P1251.
First 2 codes have been fixed, your videos of cleaning the EGR/elbow/manifold, cleaning and replacing map sensors (cracking and becoming dirty) were useful. Quick and easy fixes.
    The wonderful P1251 -
    - in addition to all the above cleaning and replacement items, cleaned intercooler and piping
    - cleaned boost sensor (on intercooler)
    - brand new stepper motor
The code disappeared for a week after new actuator and reset. But didnt last long. This has been ongoing everyday, every drive for about 4 months now.
The next step will be to change the turbo driver motor (computer). If this fails, replace the MAF sensor? And/or consider a new turbo. ...sigh$$$
The ute is clean, goes up some kerbs but hasn't seen dirt offroading in a long time.
Before spending some really big dollars, aside from INOX on moving parts, any other tips/tricks?
    Cheers Oz.

Sticky vane linkage. This was 2008 for vw tdi owners.
Pinch ya vacuum tube to your solinoid from the intake manifold. At idle. You should see vane linkage move. If it doesn’t. Lube it. ( high temp grease, inox etc) this works for vw tdi motors.
Also a good way to unstick turbo vanes is liqumoly diesel decarb spray.
If you have the knowledge & confidence. Disconnect your down pipe. Get mr muscle oven cleaner with a long reach spray nozzle attached to the can. Insert it into the exhaust turbine and spray the vanes and turbine.
Reconnect everything, manually move the vane actuator.
Let soak for at least an hr.
Reconnect everything. Start engine. Drive it with spirit.
Vw tdi are know for sticky vanes. This is a know solution.
Another is water methanol injection, a weak mix 30 meth 70 water. With keep vanes clean of soot. Moving freely

had the dreaded p1251 limp mode last night. But luckily having watched these videos knew what to do. wasnt a nice feeling going into limp mode at midnight with another 30mins to go getting home. we were towing a car trailer at the time too which makes recovery an even harder prospect for racq. not what you want after being at a race meeting since 7am. my little scanner which has been great up untill now read p1251. i thought thats fine ive know what to do. but it wouldnt actually clear the code. scanner said it was cleared but the dash light said otherwise. did the reccomended turning off and on ect. last resort was i dissconected the battery for a minute. reconcted and away we went on full power. didnt miss a beat for the rest of the journey and still ok thismorning. Thanks for the info Anthony. it pays to be informed and press the bell guys. cheers

Hey mate. I had this happen in the holidays. 2011 SR hilux D4D 320,000kms on clock, was up it on the freeway 4th gear, 3000rpm and boom, power dropped, engine light on and limp mode.
Brother brought his scan tool, identified p1251, cleared code. Drove home, we cleaned the whole unit, relubed it and tracked the main cables that it’s connected up to and ends up on the other side of the engine to an earth point. Took that off and cleaned lead point up and spot on the body where it’s mounted too and hasn’t happened since been 3 weeks.
But we will DYI cleaning egr valve and manifold next and replacing MAP.

This code led me astray on a 1KD hiace. The engine loom actually runs behind an idler pulley on front of engine and the plastic clamp broke and loom actually fell outwards and rubbed on back of pulley. I rang my local toyota dealer to let them know of my findings and they said they have also had one hiace like this also. This may help someone and stop a servo or turbo being installed for no reason. Cheers

Just Sent my 2008 Hilux for Injectors to be done and EGR blanked off after watching your videos.
Running so sweetly afterwards and Dino pulls showed a gain of 1.5kw before and after. However threw this Turbo code twice the next day... limp mode on the highway in South Africa wasnt fun...
Thanks for the info well timed for me!

Hey Ant, Another great video mate. So I was a victim of this code yesterday Cruise set to 100km tapping my steering wheel to some credence and then Buuurrrrr engine light on limp & ute was in limp mode I had a chuckle turned the engine of got out checked all the obvious symptoms all good. Started her up limped home. Threw the scan tool on and had " stepper motor DC circuit low" and another one (forgot to take a pic) checked all the plugs and map sensor filter bit of crud in one plug cleaned everything down. Reset the DTCs then came back on again straight away. Turned ute off checked over again then seen some dirt on stepper linkage cleaned and lubricated and all good from there. Code has not come back. Thanks again for your knowledge mate as I was about to buy a new turbo and stepper!

Good evening, to you all from UK 🇬🇧😳
Been having a few problems with the truck Turbo. Try and keep it short.
Purchased new in 2012 Euro 5 spec, a KUN26 3.0 D4D Double cab invincible Hilux built in South Africa, from main dealer in UK.
@ 40k miles got it chipped and DPF and EGR delete.
I was pushing it a little hard having a bit of a race and spooling down backing off into a roundabout and the turbo let go! 💥 😢, all the exhaust turbines smashed…..
My mechanic not main dealer took it to bits and found that the VNT had hit the fan exhaust fins on the Turbo. We removed the chip and put back the egr but kept the DPF deleted as was gone amyway. He fitted a turbo cassette off eBay and that turbo did not last with bearings gone again probably due to not balancing properly, understandable as but needed a quick fix and need it for work.
Then removed and sent to a professional turbo manufacturer on the south coast of UK. This one lasted 20,000k and four years and was replaced, with bearing noise (siren) and was sent back the the same manufacturer, they said it had impact damage again! Now Truck has done 63,000k, still no chip installed and had the new Turbo fitted but keeps going into limp over 2000 rpm but sometimes takes off and sometimes gets stuck on limp most of time. Just had the code at that time engine low power.
My mechanic after checking and me replacing lots of sensors (map sensor, map filter, vacuum actuator flap that opens inlet flap changed and checking the wires to the ECU, all ok. find that the 4th new turbo done no miles since fitting as not been using the truck has the actuator codes and at fault or possibly Vnt sticking, we think is dead. They want it back to inspect. Taken the cir clip off the actuator rod and manually moved it and seems a bit sticky, The Turbo people said it was a new VNT part.
With the van hire costs it would have been cheaper for a OEM Toyota turbo.
Has anyone experienced any similar problems or could add anything that we may have missed. Toyota main dealership said that they have never known this many Turbos go at 63k miles.
The 4th turbo is still in the truck but the turbo manufacturer is sending a actuator to plug (was not this) in to test before removing and sending back.
Now I have just decided to delete the EGR again that is clean and ok.
Why did the original turbo exhaust turbines hit the VNT’s and not hit the stops or was it soot build up?. Not sent the turbo back yet. Do you think deleting the DPF is like having a big free flowing exhaust and causing it to over boost?
All help would be much appreciated.
I’ll let you know what the Turbo people have said after they have looked at it. . . .
    My confidence has been lost a little in the 1KD. . . . . .
    Thanks Martin. 🥺💸💸💸💸💸 Butter BOOM!💥😂👍🏻

Hey Fellas I am having this P1251code showing up - I have the scan gauge and clear it straight away. Have NOT done the spay lube job (soon to do it) just wanted to ask a question - Will lubing the turbo arm fix this continuous (but very intermittent) code - this code throws up fairly regular for me. It will throw the P1251 code, I reset via my scan gauge, and then it may not happen again for 300/500 or 1000 kilometres we just never know and then it happens generally going up a hill (I live on Tamborine Mt) it simply drops out. Must say that isn't always the case, did it on the highway once (dangerous) as it went into limp mode. It is so intermittent its a little scary - my wife will not drive our EVER reliable 2008-120 Grande, 290K's on the clock, running like a dream clean and well kept amazing Prado - EXCEPT for the P1251 code. WHAT TO DO?
I did install a manual mapper - (just disconnected because of the continuous codes) and blocked off my EGR valve around three years ago, plus installed 3 inch SS exhaust). Reckon like Anthony says leave the friggin thing alone and it will be perfect - reckon he is DEAD right!
After all this dribble is this turbo knackered due to it doing it so often - or do I do the spray and pray!

Awesome video thanks, I've got a small problem,
I'm a technician at Ford and carried out a service on my bosses son's hiace and he said that a sound wasn't present before the service,
During the cold start up the engine sounds fine, but after a road test the engine sound changes as if load is on the engine and exhaust at idle, with minimal exhaust release at the tail pipe, like a blocked exhaust,
when I give it a Rev, the exhaust makes a fffffpifff sound similar to a trucks air brakes giving an impression that it's built up pressure while the throttle is applied then unblocking the pressure load after releasing the throttle as a delayed response to the engine acceleration,
I did give the vehicle a steam clean to the underbody of the engine.
And has no engine warning lamps illuminated.
Any help would be appreciated thanks

I had the same problem and a mechanic I know said: "do nothing else, but use your manual shifter, drive with higher rpm for a while and the EGR (exchaust gas regulator or such) will clean it self. The problem is that when the engine is tuned on a level, where it is really reliable, the low rpm with automatic transmission will get the EGR flogged with carbon which mainly causes this P1251 error.
So: get rid of the error with OBDII reader and step on it.
PS: was about to get robbed by Toyota dealer repair shop, with offer of 4500€ for turbo change.

Intercooler boost leak is causing turbo to work harder (overboost) to compensate for for the boost leak. The MAP sensor is after the intercooler, so any leaks in your intercooler will be seen by the ECU as a your turbo not working hard enough so it will adjust the veins to produce more boost and overwork. If you have boost leaks between your turbo and MAP sensor it is simply a matter of time before your turbo fails in one way or another.

Hi, 2009 Prado with 325k on the clock here, stock except for the EGR blanking plate with 7mm hole added at around 300k.
It happened to me twice last week-end, 200km apart, while climbing serious hills at 130kph with cruise control: check engine lights (+ VSC etc) on the dashboard, limp mode. Stopped in emergency (quite nerve-wracking), turned the engine off and on to exit limp mode, read and cleared a P1251, then restarted.
From the second time on, I made sure to reduce speed on steep inclines, and did not have the issue for the remaining 600km of the trip.
I now performed a stepper motor test using techstream, set the position at different intervals between 40 and 100% and it worked fine: ua-cam.com/video/WogLpyU6weo/v-deo.html (you can hear the clicking noise change). No error code logged after the test.
Will lubricate the linkage and report back if it happens again...
